Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are ‘No Longer Working Members of the Royal Family’

After days of negotiations, the royal family has decided what’s next for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The verdict? They are indeed stepping down from their senior royal positions and are “no longer working members of the royal family.”

Sussex Royal, the official Instagram account of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, released a written statement from Queen Elizabeth on Saturday, January 18. In it, Queen Elizabeth says that, “I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.”

She continues, “I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life. I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth, and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of our family.”

The details for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new arrangement were outlined in a separate statement from Buckingham Palace. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will still be referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but they will no longer use “HRH” titles. The couple are officially no longer working members of the royal family and can no longer formally represent the Queen. However, the couple assures that “everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.”

Financial arrangements were also shared in Buckingham Palace’s statement. The couple will repay the taxpayer money that contributed to the refurbishment of their royal residence, Frogmore Cottage. They’ll also stop receiving public funds for royal duties.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new arrangement will go into effect sometime this spring, per the statement from Buckingham Palace. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.”

This story is developing, but we’ll continue to update this post with details.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Stepping Down as ‘Senior’ Members of the Royal Family

In a bombshell announcement released Wednesday, January 8, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed they] stepping down as “senior members” of the royal family.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment,” the Sussexes wrote in an Instagram post.

They continued, “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”

It’s unclear what this means, exactly, for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. But rumors that something like this was happening have been brewing for a while.

“It is true that Harry and Meghan will spend a fair amount of time in Canada over the next couple of months and possibly going forward too,” a source told the Sun this week. “Right now they are starting talks with their family about their plans for the future. Those conversations are at a very early stage. There is a very careful and serious process to go through, which they are going to respect. But it is clear they are on a different and unique path, and they are very much thinking about what the future looks like for them.”

The social media reactions to this news are coming in swift. Below, just a few of the best ones:

Royals expert Omid Scobie tweeted, “In 2020 Harry and Meghan will be changing how they work with the media, to ensure diverse and open access to their work.” He then listed what they specifically intend to do.

This story is still unfolding.

Here's What 'Stranger Things' Cast Members Predict for Their Characters in Season 4

Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Stranger Things season three.

If you’re anything like me, you spent a minimum of eight hours this holiday weekend glued to Stranger Things season three. There was a lot of hype going into the sci-fi series’ third installment, but the action-packed, female-powered, Scoops Ahoy-fueled new season did not disappoint. Naturally, we have one big question on the other side of The Battle of Starcourt: What’s next for our favorite residents of Hawkins, Indiana?

For right now, it’s hard to say. The Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things‘s creators, have said they’d envisioned the series as a four-season arc—meaning there’s one last adventure with El, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Mike ahead. But the actual details—like the storyline and release date—are still up in the air. (The closest thing we have to a confirmation is a hint from producer Shawn Levy, who says season four is “definitely” happening.)

The gate to the Upside-Down may be closed (for now), but we’re holding out hope that there’s still more Stranger Things on the horizon—and the cast seems to agree. Ahead of a (hopeful) fourth season, Glamour asked Cara Buono (Mrs. Wheeler), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), and Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson) where they hope their characters head next. Showrunners, I hope you’re listening closely.

Karen Wheeler Realizes Her Potential

Karen Wheeler faced a big choice in season three: Give in to her chemistry with resident bad-guy Billy and pursue an affair, or stay loyal to her marriage and family. In the end, she chose the latter—but Cara Buono told Glamour she hopes her character will get more screen time and more opportunities to branch out from her stifled housewife role. “There’s a lot of potential. And it’s funny because when I meet a lot of young fans, they really want to see more of Mrs. Wheeler, too,” she says.

One option: a fresh career outside of the Wheeler residence. “I always thought that Karen was someone who would have gone to law school and be a public defender to give people a voice who didn’t have a voice… or I thought what would be funny is after everything that happens in Hawkins, because people are moving and real estate has really gone down, she becomes a real estate agent! Like, ‘I know things seem a little unstable here, but now’s a great time to buy!’”

Dyer wouldn’t mind teaming up with her onscreen mom for detective work in future episodes, either. “I want to see more of Karen’s stuff! We need more of that just generally in the world, and that’s just ripe for it.”

Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers Try to Make a Long-Distance Relationship Work

Stranger Things season three closed with a series of heartbreaking goodbyes when the Byers family packed up and left Hawkins for good, including the farewell between longtime-couple Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers. And the actors who play them, Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, are as in the dark as we are regarding whether Stranger Things‘s OTP will last into a fourth season.

“I’m genuinely interested to see what they are going to do, because when we were filming the end and saying goodbye, that was the question, like are we actually saying goodbye?” Heaton says.

“We don’t know [what will happen for them], and the past two seasons we’ve basically been filming together constantly, and it’s like, ‘Huh, what’s next season going to be like?’” Dyer says. “We’ve been with these characters for three seasons, and we care about them, so I do think whatever happens between them, I hope it’s given time and space and integrity and reality to what they’re going through. I mean, I’m personally invested and interested in Nancy and Jonathan’s relationship, because again, we’ve been creating these characters for years, but I think there’s a relatability to that.”

Cast Members and Celebrities Are Praising the Decision to Cancel Roseanne

On Tuesday, May 29, ABC made the swift decision to cancel the Roseanne reboot after its star Rosanne Barr went on a racist Twitter rant that compared Valerie Jarrett, a former Barack Obama aide, to an ape.

In a statement, Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, wrote, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

The decision came just hours after Barr wrote in a now-deleted tweet, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” According to NBC News, the tweet is in reference to an online claim that Obama’s CIA spied on French presidential candidates. Barr’s tweet was in response to another Twitter user, who claimed Jarrett helped Obama “hide a lot.”

Following Barr’s tweet, several cast and crew members on Roseanne spoke out to denounce her words. Wanda Sykes, a consulting producer on the show, said in a tweet prior to the cancelation announcement, “I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC.”

Sara Gilbert, who played Barr’s daughter Darlene on the ABC sitcom and is a producer on the show, also wrote that Barr’s comments are “abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show.”

Gilbert added, “This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love — one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.”

Emma Kenney, who played Darlene’s daughter on the show, wrote on Twitter, “I am hurt, embarrassed, and disappointed. The racist and distasteful comments from Roseanne are inexcusable.”

Danny Zucker, who wrote for the first iteration of Roseanne, wrote, “I wrote on the original ‘Roseanne’ where we used to denounce nativism, racism & homophobia. Nauseating to see what she’s become. Looking forward to continue not watching this show.”

Other celebrities have tweeted out their support for the decision to cancel the show, including Minnie Driver, who currently stars in the network’s show Speechless. “So proud of @ABCNetwork for having the ethical compunction to cancel #Rosanne despite the show’s huge numbers,” she wrote on Twitter. “We too make a show about a middle class family, come and watch us instead #speechless.”

Dan Fogelman, the writer and producer of NBC’s This Is Us, also shared some praise for ABC’s decision on Twitter: “Good for you, ABC. We’re friends again.”

Shonda Rhimes tweeted a simple “thank you” to Dungey for the decision to drop the show.

Debra Messing, who is starring in a revival of Will And Grace on NBC, wrote, “I just heard #rosanne is cancelled. My reaction— tears. I am so relieved and grateful. The hate that has been spewing from those in Trump’s orbit has really taken a toll on all of our souls and psyches. I didn’t believe it would happen. I had lost faith. Thank you @abc.”

Actress Zoe Saldana tweeted her disgust with Barr’s statement, writing on social media, “Shame on you @therealroseanne and @ABCNetwork @RoseanneOnABC Not a single apology can get me to respect your despicable racist character. #EndRacism in #mainstream media NOW!!!”

Director Ava DuVernay praised Dungey for her decision, writing, “For the record, this is Channing Dungey. Sitting on top of your world like a Queen in full judgement of your garbage and taking it out.”

'One Tree Hill' Cast and Crew Members Detail Allegations of Sexual Misconduct by Showrunner Mark Schwahn

Less than a week after One Tree Hill‘s cast and crew wrote a powerful letter accusing showrunner Mark Schwahn of sexual harassment, one of the show’s lead actresses has expanded on the allegations against him. Hilarie Burton, who played lead character Peyton Sawyer, detailed her allegations against Schwahn in an interview published Friday by Variety.

She alleged to Variety that Schwahn kissed her twice against her will and once slid his hand into the back of her pants while his wife was present. Burton also elaborated on Schwahn’s behavior on set: She says that Schwahn began grooming her by letting her attend production meetings and “pushing her character to the forefront.” Meanwhile, she says that she fought him about her character becoming unnecessarily sexualized, and that he would pit the women of the show against each other, pushing them into Burton’s orbit by encouraging offset friendships and then lying about physical relationships he said he was having with the show’s actresses, particularly with Danneel Ackles.

Burton alleges that in one of the instances of Schwahn forcing himself on her, he began making out with her in a limo from Raleigh to Wilmington after a show-related trip they’d taken together—while Schwahn was on the phone with the CW’s president, Dawn Ostroff, persuading her to let One Tree Hill stay on the air for a fifth season.

“I’m leaning in listening, and when it’s Dawn Ostroff’s turn to talk, he just leans over and starts kissing me,” Burton told Variety. “I push him off, but I can’t say anything, because he’s on the phone fighting for our show to stay on the air. I’m just in this position where I’m thinking, ‘You’ve got to take it, Hil. Just laugh it off. You’ll get to Wilmington in 45 minutes.'” After they got back to the set, Schwahn allegedly told Ackles (and, later, another actress) he and Burton had made out; Ackles promptly called Burton, who detailed what happened.

She detailed other allegations of misconduct as well, like an invitation to a swinger-type meet-up (he got “pretty angry” when she stood him up), and him kissing her for a second time in front of “everybody” when the cast and crew met up a bar. Ackles and Burton both recounted a time when, after unsuccessfully trying to get into Ackles’ hotel room, he allegedly went to Burton’s, complaining Ackles wouldn’t open her door to him.

Burton confronted him about his alleged behavior when they were shooting season four’s finale. She says Schwahn began rubbing her shoulders and back, and that’s when she went off. “You gotta stop,” Burton told Variety she said. “Mark, I’m telling you, as your friend, your wife is going to hear about this shit. You’re going to lose your job. You can’t touch the girls anymore.”

What happened next sounds terrifying: He grew angry because she’d confronted him in front of others. He later had her come to his office and “screamed at her for half an hour.” “I know exactly what this man’s hands look like, and they are my fucking nightmare,” she told Variety. “I think of hands when I think of him, because they were relentless.”

Burton left the show when her contract ran out a the end of season six, despite an offer of a raise from Warner Bros. She said she didn’t want to be viewed as “a problem” by the studio and wanted to work for them again—hence why she didn’t speak up at the time. She says that ultimately working with Schwahn has been detrimental to her career: It indirectly caused her to be dropped by her agent and led to missed acting opportunities,

Other allegations were made by different cast and crew members to Variety. An unnamed actress said that he touched her inappropriately when she approached him with a professional question and that, later, when she approached him about touching other female cast members, he also got angry and “threatened her job.”

A writer on the show that spoke to Variety, Michelle Furtney-Goodman, recalled an incident that involved Schwahn allegedly pulling her head between her knees, saying that “the back of my head was so flat and that I was the perfect woman, because I could give a guy a blowjob and he could rest his drink on the back of my head,” she told Variety. She alleges he set a soda can on her head to illustrate his point—all in front of the show’s other writers. She felt obligated to compose herself and go back to work: “I was scared that if I said anything [to Warner Bros.], I would never work in this town again,” she said.

A former male writer on the show, James Stoteraux, wasn’t immune to Schwahn’s toxic workplace culture, either. He says the showrunner gave him a T-shirt for Christmas that said, “I’m not a gynecologist, but I’ll take a look.” He said he was “relieved” to leave the “toxic, demoralizing workplace” after writing for the second and third seasons of the show.

Schwahn is currently suspended from his position as showrunner for another CW show, The Royals.

The Weeknd Just Unfollowed Several of Selena Gomez's Friends and Family Members

Fans were shocked last week when they learned Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were spotted hanging out together. Per TMZ, the two reportedly had a (platonic) hang-out session at Gomez’s Los Angeles home with a few of their friends. Surprisingly, it’s Gomez and Bieber’s involvement in the same church, Hillsong, that is apparently bringing them back together. Make no mistake, though: There’s no romance blossoming—not that we know of, at least—and Gomez’s boyfriend, The Weeknd, is reportedly OK with the two of them kicking it.

But the “I Feel It Coming” singer’s latest Instagram activity suggests otherwise. Shortly after news broke that Bieber and Gomez grabbed breakfast together on Sunday (October 29) and attended a Hillsong service together, fans noticed The Weeknd had unfollowed some of Gomez’s closest friends and family members on Instagram. Granted, The Weeknd still follows Gomez, but he’s no longer keeping up with her mother, her assistant (Theresa Mingus), her best friend/kidney donor Francia Raisa, and the parents of her godson (Priscilla DeLeon and Jay Cosme).

Gomez’s fans on Twitter are, naturally, freaking out about this:

Of course, it’s important not to jump to any conclusions yet. Gomez and The Weeknd seem to be head over heels for each other. They just went on a super cute Halloween date together, and this photo gallery proves they can’t keep their hands to themselves (pun intended). Just because he unfollowed some of Gomez’s loved ones on Instagram doesn’t necessarily mean there’s trouble in paradise. It is strange, though, but then again so are a lot of things. “Abelena” shippers should wait for more information before fully melting down.
