Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s Relationship: A Complete Timeline


Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are definitely a couple (and possibly about to get engaged), but so much of their relationship is shrouded in secrecy. Think: Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Tom Hiddleston, for example. There were tabloid stories, Instagram posts, and overt song lyrics that gave the public so much information to analyze. Swift’s relationship with Alwyn is a different story.

Recently, however, the couple has started stepping out at public events together a bit more. “Keeping it private from the beginning really helped their relationship,” a source recently told People. “They were able to get to know each other in peace.” The source also adds, “Their personalities are very compatible, and they’re respectful of each other’s careers.”

Sounds like a great match, so let’s break down how their relationship formed in the first place.

May 2016: Swift and Alwyn each attend the 2016 Met Gala. Do they meet then? It’s unclear exactly when the pair did meet, but people think it was at the event based on lyrics in Swift’s song “Dress”: “Flashback when you met me / Your buzz cut and my hair bleached.” They did indeed have those hairstyles at the time. Swift broke up with boyfriend Calvin Harris soon after the gala and started dating Hiddleston. That relationship ended by September 2016.

October 2016: Eagle-eyed fans figure out Swift and Alwyn attended the same Kings of Leon concert and after-party at the Bowery Hotel in New York City.

May 2017: Stories break that Swift has a new British boyfriend: Joe Alwyn. At the time he was not well known, especially to Swift’s American fans, with the biggest credit on his IMDB being Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Longtime Walk. But he was a rising star with a number of high-profile movies in the works, including The Favourite and Mary Queen of Scots.

“Taylor and Joe are the real deal, this is a very serious relationship,” The Sun reported at the time. “But after what happened with Tom Hiddleston, they were determined to keep it quiet.” The Sun also reported Swift was renting a house in North London, near Alwyn.

June 2017: Photographic evidence of the relationship emerges as the paparazzi finally catch Swift and Alwyn together—having coffee on a balcony in Nashville. They’re snapped again in New York City the following month.

Taylor Swift's New Song 'Lover' Reveals A Lot About Her Relationship With Joe Alwyn


Miley Cyrus wasn’t the only pop star to drop a new single this week that seems to be about her current relationship status. Taylor Swift released her fourth single—which also happens to be the title track—from her upcoming album Lover.

In some ways, “Lover” goes back to Swift’s roots. The song is relationship and lyrics-driven, a Swift signature, and there’s a hint of her country background in the sound. As for those lyrics, it seems clear that the “lover” being discussed in the song is her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn. It’s a rare glimpse into their romance, given that Swift has kept her relationship with the British actor incredibly private. (They’re rarely even seen together at public events.) Even so, that didn’t stop fan theories and rumors from swirling earlier this year that the couple’s about to get engaged. That hasn’t happened yet, that we know of, but the lyrics of “Lover” imply Swift is in this relationship for the long run.

The theorizing from fans starts with the first verse, of course.

We could leave the Christmas lights up ’til January /
This is our place, we make the rules /
And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear /
Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?

It’s also now clear that the fake Christmas tree Easter egg in the “ME!” video was a reference to this song.

The second verse appears to verify what many have suspected, but the couple has never confirmed publicly: Alwyn and Swift have been together for three years. (They reportedly met at the 2016 Met Gala, but didn’t start dating until the fall of that year.) As for the rest of the verse, we know Swift loves to have her friends over to hang. She also made a similar reference to a boyfriend’s appeal (who many thought to be Alwyn) in her song, “Gorgeous”: “You’re so gorgeous, I can’t say anything to your face.”

People Think Joe Biden's "Go Easy on Me, Kid" Greeting to Kamala Harris Was Condescending


Presidential hopefuls Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and former Vice President Joe Biden faced off again during the second night of the latest Democratic debates on Wednesday.

The two candidates had previously shared the stage on June 27, when Harris took Biden to task for his record on race and controversial comments he’d made about working with segregationists in the Senate. At the beginning of last night’s debate, Biden seemed to reference the tough exchange, greeting Harris with a remark some found objectionable. His mic captured his joking to her, “Go easy on me, kid.”

And online, the off-the-cuff comment isn’t sitting well with some who feel that referring to a politician like Harris as a “kid” is patronizing at worst and tone-deaf at best.

“@JoeBiden told @KamalaHarris ‘go easy on me kid’ when they shook hands at tonight’s #DemDebate. Calling your presidential opponent ‘kid’ is more than just a harmless ‘Bidenism.’ It’s dismissive,” one person tweeted. Another explained, “I honestly can’t get over Joe Biden calling Kamala Harris ‘kid.’ It was intentionally minimizing. It was designed to make her look petty and small, to put her in her place.”

But Biden’s words didn’t seem to rattle Harris. (Nor did it seem she listened to his request.) During the debate, the candidates sparred over their respective health care plans and Harris defended herself against Biden’s claims that her “Medicare for All” blueprint was too expensive and could cause people to lose their workplace-based insurance. Harris hit back, going on to argue that Biden’s health care proposal would leave out large numbers of Americans who also need coverage.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Just Shared Their First Official Wedding Photo


We finally have the first official wedding photo from Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas‘ big day. As previously reported, the two exchanged vows at the Château Le Martinet last weekend in front of their closest family and friends, which included the other Jonas brothers, Priyanka Chopra, and Turner’s best friend and Game of Thrones costar Maisie Williams.

The actress and singer both took to Instagram on Wednesday, July 3, to post a black-and-white shot of themselves walking down the aisle after exchanging I dos at their second wedding ceremony last weekend in France.

In the shot, the two are smiling ear to ear as their guests cheer them on.

“Mr and Mrs Jonas,” Turner and Jonas both captioned the stunning photo taken by photographer Corbin Gurkin. In the picture, the bride is wearing a long-sleeved, white lace gown by Louis Vuitton, and the groom is in an all-black Berluti tuxedo.

Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière also offered fans a closer look at the wedding dress on his Instagram, writing, “Absolut beauty @sophiet.”

Everything We Know About Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’s Second Wedding


If you’ve spent any amount of time on the internet this week, you probably know that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are (reportedly) having a wedding in France this weekend. The couple, along with Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, have been spotted out and about in Paris all week looking chic and partying on a boat. Just your typical prewedding behavior, right?

Of course, the couple is already legally married after tying the knot in Las Vegas following the Billboard Music Awards in May. Thanks to Diplo’s live stream, we all got to see that ceremony, but chances are that won’t be happening this time around at the big event for family and friends.

But here’s what we do know about their second wedding.

The location and arrivals: Turner and Jonas (along with Chopra and Nick) were spotted arriving at the Château de Tourreau in Sarrians, France, on Thursday, June 27, causing many to speculate that this may be where the wedding will take place. The restored 18th-century castle in Provence looks absolutely stunning—you can even check it out on Airbnb, where it’s listed at $4,774 per night. The couple was greeted by staff in a scene that looks like a modern-day Downton Abbey. It’s only appropriate that the Queen in the North get married in a literal castle.

The couple was pictured heading to the Château de Torreau as they greeted a few guests who had arrived. Turner was wearing sleek white pants and a Dior graphic T-shirt that read, “We Should All Be Feminists.” Jonas, meanwhile, was seen drinking an Aperol Spritz as he hung out at the venue.

Watch Kamala Harris Confront Joe Biden About Race at the Democratic Debate


Last night (June 27), the second group of Democratic presidential candidates—including Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Bernie Sanders, and Pete Buttigieg—took the stage to debate issues like immigration, health care, and climate change.

But it was a tense exchange about race between Harris and Biden that has everyone talking, both online and off. Harris brought up the subject of race and talked generally about the fact that discrimination is still very much an issue in the U.S. before directing her comments at the former vice president.

“I do not believe you are a racist and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground. But I also believe — and it’s personal and it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country,” she said. “It was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing. There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. That little girl was me. So I will tell you that on this subject, it cannot be an intellectual debate among Democrats. We have to take it seriously. We have to act swiftly.”

She was referring to controversial comments Biden made earlier this month where he talked about his abilities to get things done with people across the aisle during a bygone time of “civility,” mentioning two notable segregationist senators, James Eastland and Herman Talmadge. During his time as a senator, Biden also opposed a federal mandate on busing as a means of integrating public schools.

Biden looked visibly shocked to hear Harris reference herself as a young student who was bussed to school and went on to respond to her other claims. “It’s a mischaracterization of my position across the board. I did not praise racists. The fact is that, in terms of busing, the busing, I never — you would have been able to go to school the same exact way because it was a local decision made by your city council,” he said.

He reiterated his record on other matters related to civil rights and commented on his choice to become a public defender, not a prosecutor like Harris, before shutting down his own argument due to time. “I supported the ERA from the very beginning. I’m the guy that extended the Voting Rights Act for 25 years … I’ve also argued very strongly that we, in fact, deal with the notion of denying people access to the ballot box. I agree that everybody, once they, in fact — anyway, my time is up. I’m sorry.”
