All the Easter Eggs in Taylor Swift's 'Lover' Music Video

Taylor Swift‘s Lover album is finally here. But last night, ahead of its release, she dropped the video for the title track.

Of course, this means that her fans jumped into deep analysis mode as they took in each frame, found so many hidden Easter eggs, and developed some theories. In the video, we see a little girl at Christmas time opening her presents. One of them is a snow globe, and soon we’re taken into the house inside the globe where Swift and her “lover” reside. We see the couple laughing, loving, dancing, fighting, throwing parties, and diving into a fish bowl together. You know, living their lives.

At the end, the camera pans out to show that the little girl is their daughter—a very sweet touch that I must admit choked me up a little bit.

Watch the video for yourself, below, and then let’s break down what it all means.

The house.

The home inside the snow globe has seven rooms, which fans think represent Swift’s seven albums.

One fan also noted that the rooms are lit in color while the outside is dark, seemingly a reference to the lyrics in “Out of the Woods” from 1989: “The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color.”

Another thought it was a reference to the dollhouse in 13 Going on 30.

The cat.

Taylor Swift Fans Already Have So Many Theories About the Official 'Lover' Tracklist

Being a Taylor Swift fan can often feel like working a second job as a private investigator. Swift’s got a, well, reputation for dropping easter eggs in music videos, Instagram posts, and even outfits to clue fans in about her next steps. Her cryptic hints have gone into overdrive during the Lover era, with fans counting palm trees and jacket pins to decode her seventh album—and the list of potential hidden meanings got even longer when Swift released the Lover tracklist.

Swift posted three back-to-back Instagram posts revealing the official tracklist for Lover on Friday, August 16. In a series of posts with her new era’s cotton-candy aesthetic, Swift listed all 18 track titles for the upcoming album, her longest record to date. Naturally, the information embedded in the song titles sent fans spinning—once they could read what the faint title fonts actually said.

Some of the song titles confirmed theories fans have discussed since the first single of the Lover era, “ME!”, dropped in April. “ME!” includes the lyric, “There’s a lot of cool chicks out there.” In the music video, the camera pans to a wall hung with paintings of baby chicks surrounding a painting of iconic country band the Dixie Chicks. Fans took it as a sign that the Dixie Chicks would appear on the album; the Dixie Chicks and Taylor Swift further fueled the fire by sending cryptic tweets to one another after the video premiered.

Taylor Swift's New Song 'Lover' Reveals A Lot About Her Relationship With Joe Alwyn

Miley Cyrus wasn’t the only pop star to drop a new single this week that seems to be about her current relationship status. Taylor Swift released her fourth single—which also happens to be the title track—from her upcoming album Lover.

In some ways, “Lover” goes back to Swift’s roots. The song is relationship and lyrics-driven, a Swift signature, and there’s a hint of her country background in the sound. As for those lyrics, it seems clear that the “lover” being discussed in the song is her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn. It’s a rare glimpse into their romance, given that Swift has kept her relationship with the British actor incredibly private. (They’re rarely even seen together at public events.) Even so, that didn’t stop fan theories and rumors from swirling earlier this year that the couple’s about to get engaged. That hasn’t happened yet, that we know of, but the lyrics of “Lover” imply Swift is in this relationship for the long run.

Below is the lyric video to watch and discuss. (Swift says the full music video will be released next week, ahead of the album.)

The theorizing from fans starts with the first verse, of course.

We could leave the Christmas lights up ’til January /
This is our place, we make the rules /
And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear /
Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?

It’s also now clear that the fake Christmas tree Easter egg in the “ME!” video was a reference to this song.

The second verse appears to verify what many have suspected, but the couple has never confirmed publicly: Alwyn and Swift have been together for three years. (They reportedly met at the 2016 Met Gala, but didn’t start dating until the fall of that year.) As for the rest of the verse, we know Swift loves to have her friends over to hang. She also made a similar reference to a boyfriend’s appeal (who many thought to be Alwyn) in her song, “Gorgeous”: “You’re so gorgeous, I can’t say anything to your face.”
