Ariel Winter Is Sick of Comparing Herself to Other Women

Right now it’s Lizzo. She’s killing it. She just puts me in a good mood. I put her songs on repeat. Also Billie Eilish. And my queen is Cardi B. She’ll always be my queen. Always, always, always.

How much time do you spend getting ready?

If it’s just in my regular daily life, probably like 30 minutes. If I’m going to an event, it can take an hour, an hour and a half, two hours, depending on how much we’re chatting and whatever we’re doing. The most time it would take is two hours.

What hair products do you swear by?

Definitely argan oil or coconut oil. I used to bleach my hair all the time and do weird colors. I was trying things. My hair was unhealthy because of it, so I had to cut it pretty short, and I was not happy about that. I was like, Oh my god, it’s not going to grow back, I want my long hair again. But I was like, OK, I need to take a break from dying it and let it get healthy. So I started getting into oils. If I add oils to my hair and moisturize, it makes it a lot easier to dye and go back to those colors. I don’t have to cut it so short and be so sad because my inches of hair are on the ground.

I can sense the passion behind this.

It’s so devastating! I saw my hair on the floor and was like…my hair!

Screw, marry or kill: mascara, lipstick, highlighter?

Marry mascara, kill highlighter, and screw lipstick.

You have $20 and free roam of a drugstore or Ulta, what do you buy?

If it’s a drugstore, candy for sure. Candy, candy, candy. At Ulta, I’d probably want a few different tinted lip balms. I could probably get a couple of those for $20.

What’s the last Instagram rabbit hole you went down?

I’m always going down dog Instagram holes. I will look on somebody’s page and go, Oh, that person! And then I’ll see someone’s friend, and click on their friend, and if they have a dog in a photo, I’ll click on that friend. That’s probably the most specific hole I go down, unless I’m looking for a specific meme. My friend always sends me the best memes. I’ll even look at memes from five years ago.

What’s your favorite emoji?

I just got into the gifs in text messages. I like the Twerkin’ Tina from Bob’s Burgers. She’s so awkward. I love it.

What’s your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

Ariel Winter Had to Shut Down Comments About Her Body—Again

Ariel Winter has no time for online haters. Whether she’s shutting down fabricated stories about her relationship or silencing trolls who shade her clothes, Winter is quite skilled at the clap-back.

The Modern Family star, unfortunately, received yet another swarm of unfair comments this week after she posted a photo of herself from a friend’s birthday party. “Happy 21st? Love you always ❤️ couldn’t ask for a better day 1 best friend,” Winter captioned a photo of herself and friend Joe Kaprielian. They’re posing against a fun backdrop with Winter wearing a chic checkered jumpsuit, her hair long and slick. There’s literally nothing to see here, but strangers in the comments section took it upon themselves to criticize Winter’s appearance.

“Omg you lost your butt,” one fan wrote. A second replied, “Too skinny now.”

A few people seemed to imply Winter underwent plastic surgery to alter her appearance. “I’m sorry you felt the need to so dramatically change your appearance,” one person wrote. “I liked you just as you were. I hope you are happy in your new body though.”

Someone else commented, “Nothing wrong with being honest and telling her we liked her better before ‘the change’ she was so beautiful before she started chopping up her body and if me saying so helps one girl out here to feel beautiful who’s thinking of PS [plastic surgery] it’s worth it.”

That last message is what prompted Winter to jump in with a response. “I appreciate you wanting to help girls love themselves the way they are, but you are also kind of cutting someone (me) down which isn’t what I think you were trying to do?” Winter wrote. “I also didn’t get plastic surgery. That is also not supportive of women if you’re just assuming about the way they look.”

See her message for yourself, below:

For the record: People’s bodies aren’t up for debate. Ever. Under any circumstances. It’s great Ariel Winter took the power back but frustrating these comments existed in the first place.

Ariel Winter Defends Her Right to Dress However She Wants in Instagram Clap Back

PHOTO: Dan MacMedan/Getty Images

Ariel Winter has become a queen of the body shamming clap back. But because Internet trolls never learn, another week has brought another round of criticism that Ariel is pushing back against.

Ariel took to Instagram to share her frustration that her everyday fashion choices are subject to so much scrutiny. In a post simply captioned “rant,” she wrote, “Something I wish people would realize…I am not trying to be featured on Snapchat, I am not trying to be pap’d everywhere I do, I am literally just living and unfortunately, I can’t do that without paparazzi following me around everyday. I’m not trying to show you my ass in shorts when I go to the grocery store. I’m trying to live my life. People wear shorts. People have wardrobe malfunctions. No one is perfect.”

The actress had tweeted earlier this month about her frustration that some saw her shorts as some kind of affront, instead of a reasonable solution for sweaty summer legs. Her most recent social media post on the issue, however, was spurred on by the response to a certain quote she gave in a recent Hollywood Reporter interview. Ariel explains in the interview that she was dressed in revealing clothing at an early age, and she felt sexualized as a result. She explained she’d wear, “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen. People thought I was 24 when I was 12. If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes.”

While critics have called her hypocritical for criticizing the fact she called out her mother for dressing her in miniskirts while she dresses herself in revealing clothing, Ariel rightly points out there’s a big difference between someone sexualizing a child and an adult woman deciding what to put on her body. She goes on to write in the Instagram post, “As a child, you do as you’re told regardless of what is good for you. I’m an adult now, who can make my own choices and have my own identity. And just because I decide to show my body occasionally doesn’t mean I’m unintelligent or that I’m talentless or that I have no self respect.”

Because trolls are immortal creatures whose only food source is manufactured drama, this likely won’t be the last time Ariel has to defend how she chooses to dress herself, but no doubt she’ll be ready when the time comes with another well-thought-out, completely valid comeback.
