Meryl Streep and Billy Porter Hug at 2020 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes hadn’t even gotten underway yet, but we already have one of the standout moments of the night involving two of our favorites: Meryl Streep and Billy Porter.

In footage captured as the celebrities got settled in the ballroom, a camera captured a perfect moment between the two stars where they greeted each other, hugged, and kept on hugging. Now all I can imagine is a meeting between Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada) and Pray Tell (Pose). Just imagine the conversations they could have about cerulean blue, fashion history, and what he’s wearing to the next ball. The category is…my dreams!

Watch the moment for yourself below. “How many celebrities can you see? Don’t miss the part where Meryl Streep hugs Billy Porter. #GoldenGlobes,” Ramin Setoodeh tweeted with the footage.

Given how much the internet loves both a Streep and a Porter meme—you know you’ve used that gif of her and J. Lo clapping a million times—people were very excited, to say the least. “Meryl hugging Billy Porter, I’m not okay,” one person tweeted. “MERYL TOUCHING BILLY’S COAT!!!! i’m dying, she’s so cute ?????,” another wrote. And we think this person definitely has the right idea: “This is everything. Please can Meryl and Billy work together? #GoldenGlobes.”

At one point, Porter appears to say to Streep, “You didn’t see the train, boo.” And, well, that was just perfection.

Then, they threw Ana de Armas from Knives Out and Taron Egerton into the mix.

This is why the Golden Globes are always the most fun awards show of the bunch. You’ve got film legends like Meryl Streep chatting with newly crowned TV legends like Billy Porter—and that’s before the stars even sat down and started drinking all that champagne at the table. We can’t wait for the next commercial break to see what other celebrity worlds collide as famous people scramble back to their tables.

Golden Globes 2020: The Best Red Carpet Hair and Makeup

And we’re back! After the annual holiday lull, the Golden Globes 2020 red carpet is kicking off awards season once again and bringing back some much-needed glitz and glamour to our feeds. As the first major event of the awards circuit, the Golden Globes always set the tone for the hair trends and makeup looks we’ll be seeing between now and the Oscars—and, of course, into the rest of the year. The show also tends to be a bit more fun to watch since it’s less formal than other ceremonies, which also means you can usually expect stars to take more risks with their fashion and beauty looks.

Case in point: All the hair and makeup moments, below. Scroll on for our favorite looks from the Golden Globes 2020 red carpet, and don’t forget to check back later. We’ll be adding more details as they roll in throughout the night.

All the Golden Globes 2020 Red Carpet Looks You Can't Miss

The holidays are officially over, but fear not, awards season officially kicks off with tonight’s Golden Globes 2020 red carpet. Often referred to as the most fun awards show—and the only one where attendees can actually drink—celebrities tend to have a little more fun with their looks as opposed to ceremonies later in the season. In addition to some truly iconic dresses—we’re still obsessing over Lady Gaga’s lavender ballgown from last year—the Golden Globes red carpet has also been used to make a political statement, like 2018’s all black dress code in solidarity with the Me Too movement. While there’s no planned dress code this year, we can be sure to expect tons great fashion. The nominees this year are a mix of red carpet veterans like Jennifer Lopez and Reese Witherspoon, along with newcomers like Beanie Feldstein and Awkwafina.

Check out every single look from the Golden Globes 2020 red carpet below, and check back as we update through the night.

Taylor Swift at the 2019 Golden Globes: Everything We Know

One of the most surprising moments from Sunday night’s Golden Globes was when Taylor Swift made an appearance onstage to present Best Original Song to Lady Gaga. It was the first formal awards show Swift had attended in months—and she followed it with a night out during which she reportedly chilled with her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, and friend Emma Stone. Unfortunately, we don’t have photos of that, but we do have a rough timeline of Swift’s evening. So let’s dive right in, shall we?

First, Swift unexpectedly hits the Globes stage with Idris Elba. (They’re starring in Cats together.) Twitter promptly erupted. The best part about this was that TayTay literally said the words “Shallow” and “A Star Is Born,” which clearly means she and Gaga are collaborating, right? Right?! The two pop icons shared a hug as they walked off stage together, further fueling fans’ desire for a duet. This tweet, below, accurately sums up what pretty much every gay person in America hoped Swift said to Gaga in this moment (though their actual exchange remains a mystery).

Alwyn was in the audience when Swift gave out this award. “While Taylor presented, Joe watched the teleprompter near him and smiled and [his costar in The Favourite] Nicholas Hoult patted him on the back,” a source told Us Weekly. “She was smiling at him while she walked off the stage. She looked over her shoulder and gave a sassy, cute little smile at his table’s direction.”

Then fans started speculating about Swift’s outfit. She wore a black Versace gown that gave fans serious mermaid vibes. For the uninitiated, Swift fans are convinced her next album is either nautical-themed or about mermaids, so this dress…amplified that theory. Each of her earrings also had seven diamonds, and guess which album Swift is reportedly working on? Her seventh. Connections!

Party-hopping soon commenced. Swift and Alwyn attended nearly all the post–Golden Globes bashes in Los Angeles together. First off was the InStyle party, where Swift posed on the red carpet. “They didn’t shy away from showing PDA. They were adorable and you couldn’t help but to smile watching them,” a source told Us Weekly about Alwyn and Swift at this specific party.

The couple also stopped by parties hosted by Netflix and Fox. It was at the latter where they reportedly hung out with Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, as well as Swift’s good friend Emma Stone. According to this eyewitness source, below, Swift and Alwyn kissed at the Fox party:

Los Angeles Times reporter Amy Kaufman says Swift was escorted by security guards at the Fox party to a back booth, where she hung out in privacy with Alwyn, Stone, and the rest of her circle.

“She walked over enthusiastically and leaned her hand on his shoulder,” a source told Us Weekly about Swift’s entrance into the Fox party. “He grabbed her hand and kissed her. It was obvious they were aware they were being watched, but they didn’t seem to mind…. Taylor seemed absolutely in awe of him, totally mesmerized.”

Swift and Alwyn’s lack of public moments together last night shouldn’t come as a surprise. Save for a few lyrics on Swift’s 2017 album, Reputation, that may or may not be about Alwyn, she’s kept quite mum about the relationship. If these tidbits are any indication, though, it appears she’s very happy with the British actor. I’m really tempted to make a “King of My Heart” joke here, but I’ll resist. Instead, just go stream the song! It’s the best one on Reputation.

Anyway! Cheers to (hopefully) more Swift and Alwyn moments as awards season continues.

Lady Gaga's Fiancé Posted a Rare Shot of Their Intimate Post-Golden Globes Celebration

The Golden Globes didn’t go quite as we expected for Lady Gaga and the cast and crew of A Star Is Born—they lost the majority of the awards they were nominated for—but Gaga still has a new trophy to add to her collection. She nabbed the award for Best Original Song for “Shallow,” making her a two-time Golden Globe winner (she previously won for her role on American Horror Story). And in true Gaga fashion she didn’t spend the night mourning her loss of Best Actress, Drama to Glenn Close—instead, she partied with her fiancé, Christian Carino.

Lady Gaga, her amazing Valentino dress that was an homage to Judy Garland, and Carino painted the town red. First they stopped by the Warner Brothers party, then InStyle‘s Golden Globes after party, where they shared a kiss for the camera.

But the real celebration for her win was far away from the glamorous parties and celebrities. Gaga finished her epic night with a bowl of Fruity Pebbles in bed with Carino, who she first confirmed her engagement to back in October. Lucky for us, Carino snapped a pic of it for the ‘gram. Carino chose a black and white filter for the snap of Gaga clutching her trophy, under the covers, out of her dress, and cuddled up next to the box of cereal (in case she needed a refill, of course). He captioned the intimate shot with, “what a rager,” and added a red emoji heart for good measure.

In the midst of the festivities, Gaga also took to Twitter to thank her collaborators on “Shallow” and to congratulate Glenn Close on her win. She tweeted, “I am so beyond grateful for this Golden Globe & honored to have won it w/ @MarkRonson @Wyattish , Anthony Rossomando and to have sang it with Bradley Cooper. I also could not be happier for Glenn Close winning tonight. She is a true legend and deserves every award. Thank you HFPA.”

This is far from the last we’ll see of Gaga during the awards seasons. Next week she’ll appear at the Critics’ Choice Awards, where she’s nominated for Best Actress and A Star Is Born is up for six other noms.
