Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade Announce Birth of Daughter via Surrogate

There’s nothing like surprise celebrity baby news to brighten up a day. On Thursday, November 8, Gabrielle Union took to social media to announce that she and her husband, NBA star Dwyane Wade, were the proud parents to a new baby girl. Their child was born the day before, November 7, via a surrogate.

Union has been extremely open about her struggles with infertility in the past, but the couple had kept the surrogacy private until she posted pictures of herself and Wade snuggling their new daughter. In the caption Union wrote, “A LOVELY DAY. We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl! #onelastdance #skintoskin @dwyanewade”

See the happy announcement, below:

The couple are already parents to Wade’s sons Zaire and Zion, from a previous relationship, and help raise Wade’s nephew Zahveon, and they’ve spoken publicly about the desire to have a child together. That wasn’t always the case, though. “I never wanted kids,” she said. “Then I became a stepmom, and there was no place I’d rather be than with them.”

In her book We’re Going to Need More Wine, Union opened up about her IVF treatments and revealed she had multiple miscarriages. “I have had eight or nine miscarriages,” she writes. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant—I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.” But she noted that she and Wade “remain bursting with love and ready to do anything to meet the child we’ve both dreamed of.”

Now, they have their “miracle baby” and celebrities and fans alike could not be happier for the couple. “What a blessing!!! I am so happy for you guys!!!” Janelle Monae commented on Union’s post. And director Ava Duvernay wrote, “How wonderful!” See just a few reactions, below:

Wade’s team, the Miami Heat, also weighed in and already have a baby gift ready.

Many congratulations to the happy family! We can’t wait to hear her name and see more photos.

Kathy Manning Lost in the Midterm Elections. Her Daughter Writes about What She Saw Her Mom Win.

Eleven months ago, my mom decided to run for Congress in the 2018 midterm elections. Last night, I felt prouder of her than ever.

Here’s the catch—she lost.

From the beginning, the experience watching my mother run was inspiring. Last December, Kathy Manning decided it was time to step up and take action; she couldn’t just stand by and watch as our country veered down a dark and twisted path.

Her decision to run pushed me to quit my own job to do something I felt was more important, too. I started a new audio-first media company to tell the stories of women like her. Through that work, I realized that my mom was by no means alone in her quest to preserve the values that really urge our country towards greatness. I got to know 12 other women running for the House, each of whom said in one way or another, “If not me, who? If not now, when?” Each of whom felt the personal impact of policy and said, “The arc of the universe may bend towards justice, but we’re going to have to push it.”

As Election Day grew ever closer, I spent afternoons knocking on doors in areas of my home district I had never visited. I met strangers at their homes, at churches, in restaurants, and on streets who were so inspired by Kathy Manning that they beamed at the opportunity to shake my hand.

Through grueling, seemingly never-ending days of work, my mom shined. She listened to the concerns of people throughout the district and nightly reported back stories of the tenacity of the people in our area.

Still, she lost. It would be lying by omission to gloss over the pain and anxiety of last night. The race was an uphill battle from the start—North Carolina’s districts have already been deemed too gerrymandered by the courts. They were cut with “surgical precision” to keep districts, including the 13th, where she ran, red. At the first signs of a loss, I felt both wired and deeply saddened.

Enter Kathy Manning. She arrived at the watch party without any sign of tears. She embraced person after person with love and gratitude for the hard work done by all. She asked about other women she knew were running throughout the country, and she was happy to hear so many of her peers won. A record number of women will serve in our next House of Representatives and her fellow Democrats retook the chamber.

When my mom took the stage to speak, she proved once and for all, that Kathy Manning is not just the leader we wanted, she’s the leader we need.

As I looked out at the crowd during her speech on election night, I saw the faces of hundreds of people filled with love, propelled by hope, moved to keep on fighting. She said it better than I ever could: “Because what really makes America great is our desire to be a land of opportunity for all. What really makes us great is our history of setting high ideals and striving to meet them. We may stumble along the way, but we must continue to fight for what is right.”

Kathy Manning’s run for Congress was just the beginning. The way she acted when faced with defeat stoked a full-on fire of activism—not just within me, but within people across the North Carolina’s 13th District and across the country.

A better future can be a reality. Some parts of the country felt it last night. Some didn’t. But midterm elections weren’t our last chance. Change is coming. As this chapter comes to a close, it’s time to double-down and charge ahead.

As my mom said last night, “We know change is possible, and we know change is required. We must continue working together to make this country what it can be and what it should be.”

George W. Bush's Daughter, Barbara Bush, Just Got Married in a Secret Ceremony

Surprise! It turns out Barbara Bush got married in a small, secret wedding by the seaside over the weekend. According to a report from People, the former First Daughter and her fiancé, Craig Coyne, tied the knot at the Bush summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, in what she described as a “very short, sweet ceremony” attended by only 20 people. The guests included former President George W. Bush, former First Lady Laura Bush, former President George H.W. Bush, and other family members from the bride’s and groom’s sides.

Bush’s father walked her down the aisle, while her aunt, Dorothy Bush Koch, served as officiant, People reported. Her twin sister, Jenna Bush Hager, was matron of honor, while the roster of flower girls consisted of Hager’s daughters, Margaret and Poppy—who was also the ring bearer—and Coyne’s niece Emma. Laura Bush also did a reading.

Meanwhile, Coyne’s brother, Edward, was the best man, while his mother, Darlene, and sister, Katie, each read as well.

The bride, who wore a custom Vera Wang wedding dress, according to a press release from the bridal label, featuring ivory silk crepe, spaghetti straps, and a cowl draped neckline. Bush completed the look with an Italian tulle floor-length cape and a floor-length Italian tulle veil. She also incorporated a memento from her late grandmother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, who passed away earlier this year, as reported by People. “It’s really sweet,” Bush said. “The ‘something borrowed’ that I’m wearing is this bracelet that my grandfather gave to my grandmother on their 70th anniversary.”

According to People, the surprise nuptials are the first time Bush and Coyne have gone public with their relationship. The couple revealed that they got married after a five-week engagement, and have been an official couple since New Year’s Eve, after meeting during a blind date orchestrated by their friends last November. Bush told the magazine that Coyne proposed in Kennebunkport over the summer, in the same spot where George H.W. Bush had proposed to Barbara Bush 75 years prior.

“It’s just been a very sweet romance,” Bush told People. “And we’ve been long-distance for most of it — he’s been in L.A. and I’ve been in New York — but we’ve gotten to spend a lot of time together.”

Kate Hudson Just Shared the First Photo of Newborn Daughter Rani

Kate Hudson gave birth to a daughter on Thursday—and her name, Rani Rose, is beyond adorable (“Rani,” by the way, is pronounced “Ronnie,” should this come up at brunch)—and now she’s shared the first picture of her newborn. Spoiler alert: She’s super cute.

Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa is the first child for Hudson and her partner, Danny Fujikawa, although Hudson also has two sons, Ryder (14) and Bing (7), from previous relationships. Rani Rose, if you’re wondering where the name came from, is a tribute to Fujikawa’s dad: “Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor,” Hudson posted when she announced her daughter’s birth.

Although Hudson had originally tried to keep her pregnancy under wraps, she shared a picture of a snoozing Rani to Instagram on Saturday. The 4-day-old baby looks very cozy all swaddled up for her nap, and her tiny head is topped off with a pink bow.

“Our little Rosebud,” Hudson captioned the pic.

Hudson’s brother Wyatt Russell told People back in April how excited Hudson was to be having a girl. “I was happy. I was teary-eyed because I know how badly she wanted a girl,” he said. “I know Danny, I’m sure in some part of every man’s brain you’re like, ‘I’d love to have a little me.’ But when he met my brother’s little girl Rio, who’s the cutest thing in the entire world, she made him be like, ‘Okay, I want a girl.'”

Hudson also took followers along during her pregnancy this summer—and from an adorable baby shower to a babymoon in Tuscany, it all looked incredible.

We’re sure that the parents are over the moon about their new addition. Congrats to Kate and Danny!

Khloé Kardashian Calls Out Trolls For Deleting Their Vile Comments About Daughter True

We know Khloé Kardashian is strong. She’s proven it hundreds of times over on live television, online, and everywhere else that the paparazzi follow, and this month, she’s demonstrated how deeply her resilience runs. Last week saw Kardashian standing up to internet commenters criticizing her five-month-old daughter, True, for not sharing the biracial characteristics of her infant cousins. Kardashian’s responses defended her daughter against the onslaught of colorism. Now, she’s calling out the trolls too cowardly to even allow her that.

“I dislike the fact that people are allowed to comment on my daughters skin color but as soon as I comment kindly back and praise her for all that she is, the comment gets erased,” Kardashian posted on Twitter. “If you have the courage to post your nasty criticism please allow one to defend or comment back.” Instead of reading her comments and, you know, trying to learn from them and grow as a person, the trolls are apparently deleting their comments when Kardashian responds to them.

“We need to learn to praise all skin tones/ethnicities!” Kardashian wrote. “Our beauty is in our differences. We can learn so much! So proud of every human who is confident in who they are. I’m in my 30s I think I’m just finding this confidence. So I am patient with others. But allow me to voice mine.”

The only thing possibly shadier than talking shit about a five-month-old infant is being so cowardly that when someone calls you out, you don’t have the backbone to stand by what you said. It’s the internet, so filth reigns everywhere—but the Kardashians built their empire off of owning their circumstances and not letting anything go unsaid. It must be unimaginably frustrating for Kardashian to put in the emotional labor of being kind to a troll, only to have her response disappear along with their words.

Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like Kardashian is letting the trolls affect her happiness.

Dear Ivanka: Female Celebrities Are Calling On the First Daughter to Support Christine Blasey Ford

Word out of Washington, D.C. on Saturday, according to the New York Times, is that the Senate Judiciary Committee and lawyers representing Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who is accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault during a party while they were in high school have reached a tentative agreement for her to testify publicly on Thursday.

In the coming days, we are sure to see both sides attempt to galvanize support on social media and beyond. Actress Alyssa Milano spoke to Glamour about her efforts to raise money for Ford. “I hope she feels the love and support and the heartache that women feel in standing in solidarity with her,” Milano said. “I want her to know that if she needs anything at all, that I’m here and I want to thank her for her bravery in doing the right thing for the country, even though it’s the harder thing for her personally.”

In yet another #DearIvanka campaign, other celebrities—like Busy Philipps, Amy Schumer, and Sophia Bush—are using their large social media platforms to call on First Daughter and White House senior advisor Ivanka Trump to get the administration to conduct an FBI investigation into the charges.

Philipps writes, “Dear @IvankaTrump, you don’t follow me on social media. But as a public servant, you work for me. You’ve proclaimed yourself a feminist and a champion of women’s rights. Right now, you have an opportunity to fight for women and survivors. Use your access to demand that Professor Ford’s request for a full, fair, trauma-informed investigation by the FBI be held. Use your access to make sure another abuser is not seated on the Supreme Court. #DearIvanka”

Schumer, in typical fashion, didn’t mince words. “Hey @ivankatrump Were you so excited to wear that pill box hat this week? #fun You will be remembered like Eva Braun unless you do something,” she wrote. “It’s not too late.”

Bush, who says Trump does indeed follow her on Instagram, took a different approach in her post. “I figured after the last one of these calls for you to take action, you’d unfollow me. But you’re still following me!! So, let me use this opportunity to call you in,” she said in a caption. “Rather than feeling called out, try to see this as an invitation to merge your words and your actions. Girl. You can do it.

Milano, “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay, Wild author Cheryl Strayed, celebrity stylist Karla Welch and more are also flooding Trump’s feed.

While her father has doubled down on his support of Kavanaugh and called into question why Blasey Ford didn’t report the incident when it happened over 30 years ago, Ivanka Trump has yet to make a public statement on the matter.
