Meghan Markle's Dog May Have Been the Biggest Clue They Were Stepping Down

While most of the world is still in shock over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, it turns out one of the Duchess’s dogs may have been a big hint the announcement was coming.

This week, Markle and Prince Harry announced they will opt out of some of their royal duties and plan to partially relocate to North America—most likely Canada—where they will work to become financially independent.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” the couple wrote on Instagram.

This announcement came amidst the couple’s holiday in Canada, where per E! News, it was reported the two were spotted taking a hike with Suits star Abigail Spencer and two dogs.

Though it seemed like an innocent story at the time, this is where Markle’s pets come into play. One of the dogs on the hike was reportedly Guy, the beagle Markle adopted from a rescue shelter, and the other was identified as Bogart, the pup who could no longer travel because of his old age. (He was left behind in Canada with friends after she married Prince Harry as to not force him to make the long journey to the U.K.)

Now, this is where things get interesting. According to People, Guy suffered an injury following his arrival in the U.K. in 2017. He reportedly broke two of his legs at the time and Markle was “distraught” and “very upset” by what happened.

This begs the question: Why would Markle haven taken him on a 10-hour flight back to Canada just for a six-week vacation? For some, the answer is quite simple. Markle and Prince Harry were already in the process of making their move across the pond way before they announced it, so they were taking the necessary steps to relocate their dogs.

Royal correspondent Rebecca English told The Daily Mail that “insiders confirmed that the dogs staying in Canada ‘was the biggest clue, in hindsight, that they were unlikely to come back from this so-called holiday’.”

“Both the Duke and Duchess adore their dogs and Guy has already been relocated from Canada to London once when Meghan moved over,” the Daily Mail‘s source added. “She wouldn’t have considered a move again for him if it wasn’t going to be at least semi-permanent.”

As they said in their statement, the two intend to “balance [their] time between the United Kingdom and North America” where they plan to raise their son “with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter.”

It’s been reported that Markle is already back in Canada with baby Archie and her dogs. As for Prince Harry, he’ll reportedly join his wife and son in two weeks after he sorts everything out with his family in the U.K.

Sophie Turner Might Have Just Dropped a Major Clue About Sansa Stark's Fate on 'Game of Thrones'

Tomorrow (Sunday, April 14), the eighth and final season of the global phenomenon that is Game of Thrones will begin airing—and we’ll finally start to get some answers about how the heck this thing is actually going to end. In the meantime, even the more casual fans like myself have taken to analyzing the frames of whatever footage HBO sees fit to release, not to mention deep-diving the promotional interviews the cast has given for hints. Hey, you have to look for clues where you can with this show—after all, its cast and creators are famously tight-lipped about revealing spoilers.

Take Sophie Turner‘s recent interview with Entertainment Weekly: Is she perhaps leaving us clues to Sansa Stark’s fate? When asked about her character’s storyline for the upcoming season, Turner had this to say: “Sansa this season is very much enjoying becoming a leader in her own right and the leader of Winterfell, and this year there are certain challenges of people who come into her life that threaten that. She has to go behind a few backs and risks tearing apart her family.”

It already seemed pretty clear that Daenerys (and her dragons) would present at least one of those challenges. Co-star Emilia Clarke, who plays the powerful character, has also hinted at tension between the two characters.

Turner also almost seems to confirm a popular fan theory about Sansa and Jon Snow: “Her [Sansa’s] relationship with Jon [Snow] is struggling because he’s so clearly in love with Daenerys and believes in her completely. Sansa thinks she’s power-hungry and not the rightful queen. There’s a huge amount of fighting between Sansa and Jon.”

Plus, Sansa doesn’t exactly love the idea of having dragons around. “She’s not happy because she’s going to have to feed these dragons,” Turner says. “They require a lot of food, and they have limited resources.”

This all sounds pretty ominous—especially because we know that no character, big or small, is ever safe on Game of Thrones. It’s Turner’s quote about going behind a few backs that sounds like a clue that she might either go all the way to the Iron Throne or die because she betrays someone close to her. And as Cersei Lannister famously says in season one, “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”

Game of Thrones Fans Think Jon Snow's Statue in the Season 8 Trailer Reveals a Huge Clue

HBO dropped the first teaser for Game of Thrones season eight on Sunday night (January 13), and, as expected, fans are already excavating it for clues and hidden meanings. Of course, some of them are a stretch, but a few actually have merit—like a theory currently trending on Reddit about Jon Snow’s statue from the trailer.

For context, go back and watch the teaser for yourself, below, and pay close attention to the statues it reveals of Arya, Sansa, and Jon. Notice how Arya and Sansa’s figures portray them as they are now—young—but Jon’s depicts him as an older man. Some fans are taking this to mean that Jon Snow is the only one who survives when everything is said and done. That’s a bold conclusion, sure, but Game of Thrones is a bold show.

“For me this trailer solidifies Jon as the main protagonist of the story,” one Redditor writes. “Whatever the ending is going to be, it’s going to be about Jon. He will be the hero, the ruler; he will defeat the Night King and save the realm. He’s not going to die, unless it’s as a final sacrifice.”

Others, however, think people may be reading too much into this. One fan points to a similar death theory that popped up in season six but never panned out. “Remember season six promos with all the faces of the lead actors in the hall of the Many Faced God? Everyone had theories on which one was gonna die, none of those characters died in that season,” they write. Good point!

There’s also another big Easter egg in this trailer: the frozen feather that falls when Jon passes the remains of his late mother, Lyanna. For context: The audience knows Lyanna is Jon’s mom, but he doesn’t. As this happens, we hear Lyanna’s voice faintly say, “You have to protect him.” “Him” is referring to Jon, who is the true heir to the Iron Throne. He just doesn’t know it yet. (Sansa put this exact feather on Lyanna’s statue back in season five.)

There’s so much going on in this trailer! Catch fans coming up with 500 more theories from it between now and when season eight premieres on April 14.

We Might Have Just Gotten a Big Clue About Who's Designing Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress

Meghan Markle’s friend Priyanka Chopra all but confirmed to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night that the future royal cried when she said yes to the dress. And although the exact tear-inducing dress will likely remain a complete mystery until the moment she walks down the aisle at St. George’s Chapel on May 19, multiple outlets—quoting, keep in mind, very anonymous sources—are reporting that Markle chose a Ralph & Russo dress. Most recently, the Daily Mail‘s royal correspondent reinforced the rumors on Friday.

The rumors aren’t totally out of nowhere: Ralph & Russo is a British line (check) with an incredibly regal vibe (check). Markle also has a history with the brand: She wore a stunning, sheer black Ralph & Russo dress during her engagement photos.

As far as the odds of her wearing Ralph & Russo—again, there’s no one on the record yet—the line is a favorite amongst the bookie crowd in the UK, which yes, is betting on the designer of the royal wedding dress. In the UK, if it seems like someone knows something as a fact (say, who the designer of a royal wedding dress is), and word is spreading, betting companies will stop anyone else from putting money on the bet. Paddy Power and Ladbrokes, both bookmakers, have suspended bets after an overwhelming amount of people put their pounds on the designer.

“We’ve taken the market back down again because it’s been confirmed pretty much that the designer of the dress is chosen and the dress is ready,” a spokesperson for Paddy Power told Racked. “So what happens is if our traders see we get a lot of substantial bets on a particular designer, they think to themselves, ‘OK, what are the chances that someone actually knows this for a fact?’”

Financial Times writer Carola Long straight-up asked the duo behind the brand, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, if they were designing the wedding dress, but they declined to comment. Based on their body language and awkward laughs, Long wrote,“If Ladbrokes hadn’t closed bets then mine would be on this duo.”

Again, nothing is confirmed—but part of the fun of a royal wedding is a little speculation, and there seems to be a bit here to back it up. Then again, British bookies were actually totally wrong when it came to Duchess Kate Middleton’s dress back in 2011: They overwhelmingly placed their bets on designer Bruce Oldfield, but she famously wound up wearing Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

So yes, there’s a chance (a chance) that Meghan will wear Ralph & Russo. Until then, we’ll have to see if anyone reveals the news themselves—or simply wait until we see her for ourselves May 19.

Glamour reached out to Ralph & Russo for comment and will update the story accordingly.
