Kendall Jenner Debuted Bright Blond Hair at London Fashion Week

Jenner certainly had the ability to walk in New York Fashion Week this year, but instead she decided to take it all in as a showgoer. “It’s a lot more mellow to just go,” she told Vogue. “But I won’t lie, today I was missing it. I was watching the girls, and I was like, ‘Damn, I kind of want to walk.’”

One of the models in question she watched was Bella Hadid, who also recently went through a pretty major blond transformation herself. Perhaps she was Kendall’s inspiration for going over to the bright side? Or it could be the rest of the Kar-Jenner fam, who are no strangers to constant hair changes—Kim, Kourtney, and Kylie go blond and back like it’s nothing—who gave Kendall the push to blond. Whatever the reason, be prepared for this specific shade to be everywhere this fall.

Cherry Blond Hair Is the Perfect Shade for Summer

It’s around this time of summer that we’re looking for a way to shake things up a little bit (kind of like that February beauty rut, but make it hot and humid). And although finally going to that new brunch place or trying a yoga class are great, there’s not a lot that can compare to the “new hair, new me” rush switching up your hair color gives you. And while the jury still might be out on what will be the song of the summer, there is one contender and one contender only for hair color trend of the summer, and that’s cherry blond hair.

If you haven’t seen it on your Instagram feed already, let me explain: Picture rose gold hair—but up the saturation on the red and have the blond as the accent, rather than at the forefront, of the shade. It’s vibrant, bright, multidimensional, definitely unexpected, and it’s fun. Plus, there’s a version of it out there for everyone. In other words, it’s the perfect summer hair color.

Check it out:

HelloGiggles, which noted the trend, also called out one of its early adopters: Maisie Williams. The Game of Thrones actress went for a lighter version of the look, with more of a pinkish-red shade that used her base color to add dimension.

You don’t have to do a solid color, either: Weave the shades throughout your hair as highlights instead.

Or go with an ombré look, which is gorgeous on darker shades.

And you can go super-multidimensional, too—I can’t even count the number of shades my eyes are seeing with this look.

Should you be nervous about making a bold leap when it comes to color, try a gloss to start. Last time my hair stylist bleached my hair, we decided to add in a wash of pink with one, just to switch things up a bit from my normal blond. Reader, I loved it. And although we went for a watercolor level of saturation over my hair (I called time when my hair was, confusingly, the color of a carrot), it helped get me comfortable playing with a different color—and imagine how I might look as a cherry blond.

If you’re ready to go all in? Bring pictures of the looks you love to your hair stylist. Because there are so many different variations on this trend—and a lot of it has to do with what base color you’re working with—it’s best to have a visual aid to show your stylist for inspo. (P.S. Don’t forget the Olaplex on your way out the door!)

Blond to Brunette Hair Color: Everything You Need to Know

My early twenties have been defined by hundreds of mistakes. Making a rent payment with a credit card, despite knowing how interest works; taking one tequila shot too many to keep up with my “fun” friends, you get the idea. Of all the times I’ve messed up, though, bleaching my hair was probably the worst.

I expected going blond would be a transformative experience. With shiny, bleached hair, I’d have Elle Woods confidence with an edgy, fashion-person energy—and I’d achieve this new persona quicker than I would by actually working on myself in a meaningful way. From my limited understanding of hair chemistry, I didn’t think I had far to go on the color wheel to reach an ashy, platinum blond I’d hoped for. (As you may guess, I didn’t think much at all before this decision.) My natural hair is a caramel brown that can pass for dirty blond in generous lighting.

So last year, I made the appointment to go platinum. I sat through four hours of bleach processing and a quick trim to finish. When I walked out of the salon with a $260 bill and bright yellow hair, I wanted to love it…but I hated it.

Bleaching stung my scalp to the point of tears. The aftermath was visually startling and expensive as hell. I spent nearly $500 on purple shampoos and at-home treatments to avoid a brassy tone and to keep my hair somewhat soft. The at-home products weren’t enough on their own; my hair grew fast, and my roots were constantly jumping out. Eventually, I had two rounds of cooling toners and a root melt from a salon at my parents’ town in Florida.

Over a year and several inches of root growth later, though, I knew I couldn’t continue shelling out for a hair color I didn’t love to begin with. My hair was dehydrated, limp, and not quite blond. So I made a second appointment: this time, to set my hair back to a natural brown matching my roots.

As they say, you live and you learn. It wasn’t until my hair was stripped of its natural pigments that I knew I wasn’t destined to be blond; likewise, it wasn’t until my head was sectioned into dye-painted, foil-wrapped sections that I sensed that releasing my hair from its bleach prison would be more complicated than I imagined. Here’s what I probably should have known before I bleached my hair to begin with—and what anyone who’s going from blond to brunette should keep before making the big switch.

1. Your hair needs some extra TLC before making your salon appointment.

Whether your current blond is artificial or au natural, you should be taking extra care to moisturize your hair prior to dyeing it a darker shade. A protein-rich, hydrating conditioner preps it for absorbing color molecules during the dye process, says Genna Still, master colorist at Spoke & Weal Salon. “Color bonds to protein, so having that protein in the hair [before dyeing it] is really important.” Equalizing solutions, like Aveda’s BB Damage Remedy, also reinforce your hair’s porosity before sitting down for new color.

I, for the record, didn’t think I needed a pre-treatment until I was seated in Still’s chair for my own blond to brunette experience. It didn’t matter—technically, extra conditioner is just a suggestion for healthier hair. Whether you took extra precautions or not, there’s good news: Bleaching makes hair dry and brittle over time, but going brown won’t put your hair at further risk. “The bright side of going darker is that there is no real damage,” Still says. “There is a little bit of hydrogen peroxide in [brown dyes], so there are some chemicals, but semi-permanents are also heavily packed with natural oils. So really, if anything, you’re just going to feel like your hair is healthier.”

2. Going from blond to brunette is so much more than changing shades.

Landing on the right shade of brown is more than bringing in an inspiration photo from Instagram. Determining the best shade of brunette is likely related to how much maintenance, both at-home and at follow-up appointments, you’ll want to do. “If you’re okay with maintenance but definitely want a darker look, you have free range for a warm tone, an ash tone, or a cool tone,” Still tells me. “But if you want to have the least maintenance possible, it’s best to play on the natural tones you already have in your hair.”

Melania Trump Unveiled Her New Blond Hair on Fox News

Melania Trump took her new blond hair and not-so-new complaints about the media to Fox News this week, submitting to a sit-down interview with host Sean Hannity on Wednesday.

In their conversation, Trump told Hannity that the greatest hardship she’s faced since she’s been in the White House is the “opportunists” who’ve used her name and the Trump brand to “advance themselves.” Perhaps in an effort to channel her own #BeBest initiative, which aims to curb bullies online and seems to have had no effect on her own husband, she did not name names but she did call out journalists, comedians, celebrities, and authors for their supposed behavior.

Now it’s news to no one that FLOTUS takes issue with how she and her husband are treated in the press. But what did make waves on the internet? Trump’s new look. The erstwhile brunette trotted out a fresh set of highlights, and Twitter took notice.

Of course a woman is free to switch up her hair (or wear a Zara jacket that seems to suggest a certain disregard for a national crisis on the border) whenever she pleases, but if that woman is Melania Trump and her new shade now falls between Donald Trump Russet Potato and Ivanka Trump Daffodil on the color wheel, people will have opinions.

Some had questions:

Others had theories:

Most just had feels:

And some shut out all the noise and did just as Trump requested in another portion of the interview. The media, she said, “likes to focus on gossip and I would like them to focus on the substance and what we do, not just about the nonsense.”

For at least one journalist the point was well-taken! Never mind the hair! Or the comparisons to other women in the administration or on Fox News. Let’s concentrate on what matters:

Pete Davidson Is Now Blond, Which May Have Nothing or Everything to Do With Ariana Grande

Over the weekend, Pete Davidson took some serious beauty inspiration from his fiancée, Ariana Grande, and dyed his hair platinum blond.

The Saturday Night Live star and future Mr. Ariana Grande shared a photo to his Instagram feed on Sunday night (July 1) showing the back of a person’s head with bleached hair, with the caption “big time adolescence.” At first, it was unclear who the mystery head belonged to, but Davidson later shared another photo of himself that made it very clear that he did, in fact, follow in Ariana’s footsteps and go blond for summer.

Though Ariana is technically back to brunette, she sent shockwaves through the beauty world a few months ago when she showed off platinum blond strands in the images accompanying her upcoming album, Sweetener, so it’s not a huge stretch to wonder if Pete was inspired by her own beauty transformation.

In addition to changing up his hair color, Pete seems to be actively trying to up his style game.. He recently hired Queer Eye‘s Tan France to help him with his wardrobe, so maybe his new look is a part of an even more major makeover that he’ll be rolling out in the next few months.

It seems like Pete and Ariana had a seriously busy — and beauty-filled — weekend. In addition to the hair-color update, the engaged couple also spent time at their local Sephora, hiding from the paparazzi in the Benefit] aisle. They also found time to decorate their new, $16 million apartment (which, it’s worth mentioning, has its own IMAX theater), and post cute photos and videos on each other’s Instagram Stories.

Kris Jenner Just Went Platinum Blond, and This Time It's Legit

The world loves an icon, and Kris Jenner is nothing if not that. After a casual 11 years and 14 seasons in the spotlight, to call Jenner a boss is an understatement, but no one deserves the label more than her. The smarts, the savvy, the talent for lounging around martini in hand—Jenner’s got it all, and now the platinum blond hair to match.

If that martini reference makes no sense, you might’ve missed Jenner’s brief stint as a platinum blond in October. With a single photo on Kim Kardashian’s Instagram, Jenner looked like she was living large in an incredible rose-covered white suit, red leather accessories, and her signature pixie cut in an all-new platinum shade. It was a glorious time, but it wasn’t long for this world. Jenner was back to brunette in a second.

But now, the platinum pixie rides again.

According to the Kardashian’s go-to stylist, Chris Appleton, this time it’s for real—both he and Jenner posted a photo of her with bright, white blond hair late Tuesday night. It’s not quite Kim’s silvery platinum color, but one that leans warmer and more of a true white.

From the captions, this is no fake-out. Jenner hashtagged her photo with “#MotherDaughterTuesday,” while Appleton wrote, “Look who joined the gang!,” along with some advice for going platinum white. The trick? It’s all about Olaplex, a protein treatment that rebuilds your hair’s bonds after bleach does a number on them. Appleton also wrote that he used Color Wow’s Dreamcoat, an anti-humidity treatment that seals your hair follicle to keep it silky.

The good thing is, the Kardashian households are probably stocked with bleach rescue products aplenty. Kim posted on Instagram that she’s thinking of dying her hair darker again for 2018, so if she follows through, it’ll be a one-in, one-out switch. For anyone who’s ever shared hair products with their mom, that’s probably for the best.
