This Woman Spilled Red Wine on Her White Jumpsuit—And Her Friends Came Up With Quite the Solution


While there’s no doubt a head-to-toe white outfit is the epitome of summer, it can also an incredibly hazardous look for the accident-prone among us. Social media helped us figure out how to clean white sneakers—and now, it’s brought us the story of a woman in England who found a clever solution to an all-too-common summer problem: spilling wine on your white dress.

A Twitter user named Mia Williamson shared that she was at the Ripon Races in Leeds, England when someone splashed red wine on her friend Eleanor Walton’s crisp white Pretty Little Thing jumpsuit. Instead of panicking, Walton, Williamson, and the rest of their group came up with a genius hack: pouring more wine all over the outfit. Of course, they documented the whole ordeal and shared it on social media.

“Would you believe someone spilt red wine all down my white outfit so my work girls SOAKED my jumpsuit in the sink so it’s now red,” Walton tweeted.

Williamson added visuals: an image of Walton in her white jumpsuit with the initial stain, and an image of her after deciding to just add more red wine.

The result of their in-the-moment was a pink tie-dye print—which is actually very on-trend for summer. In fact, the finished product was good, Pretty Little Thing, the brand that made Walton’s white jumpsuit, even jokingly replied to the photos on Twitter: “Safe to say that wasn’t a ‘pour’ decision,” it tweeted.

Walton told The Cut that she was “quite drunk” when they decided to dye the entire outfit with more wine. “Part of me wanted to go home and change, but I was having too much fun and didn’t want to let a spill ruin my day,” she said, adding that the entire process took about half an hour and four glasses of wine. She also reveled on Twitter that she sat entirely naked in a bathroom stall while her friends worked on the outfit, and calmed those concerned by the waste of money by clarifying they had an open bar.

Walton also shared a photo of herself drying her new outfit under a hand dryer, and told The Cut “I got used to how it felt quite quickly. I wasn’t really thinking about it ‘cause I was having a good time.”

The look has incited a lot of conversation on social media, with many on Twitter commenting on how clever and cute it is, even going as far to ask for a tutorial.

This just goes to show: When in doubt, add more wine.

Megan Rapinoe Won’t Visit the White House if the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Wins the World Cup

On Friday evening (June 29), following the U.S. Women’s soccer team’s victory over France in the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez invited U.S. co-captain Megan Rapinoe and her fellow teammates to the House of Representatives for a tour. “It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome @mPinoe & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like. ??,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

And it looks like the team is down: “Consider it done @AOC,” Rapinoe responded, adding a celebratory emoji.

The U.S. Women’s soccer team is currently battling it out in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team just made it to the quarterfinals, but their success in the tournament wasn’t what made headlines on Wednesday (June 26); instead a social media frenzy exploded around co-captain Megan Rapinoe’s recent comments.

When asked whether she was excited to go to the White House (if the team does indeed take the tournament) by a reporter from the outlet Eight by Eight, she responded, “I’m not going to the fucking White House.” She then added, “We’re not gonna be invited…. I doubt it.”

For context, Rapinoe’s reaction is in keeping with her past political statements. She’s been an outspoken critic of President Trump and was one of the first white players to join Colin Kaepernick and other footballers in taking a knee during the national anthem back in 2016. Rapinoe is also part of her team’s discrimination lawsuit against U.S. Soccer.

Later on Wednesday morning, Trump responded to Rapinoe’s comments in a series of three tweets. “Women’s soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is ‘not going to the F…ing White House if we win.’ Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level…in our Country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House. I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven’t yet….invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

While Rapinoe has yet to speak out about Trump’s tweets, many others have taken to social media about his remarks. Adam Serwer, a staff writer at The Atlantic, wrote, “Trump is now going after Megan Rapinoe because the ‘f**k your feelings’ president flips out when members of groups targeted by his policies criticize him rather than knowing their place. I might add that for all the thoroughly insincere ‘free speech’ rhetoric from his supporters, Trump most frequently deploys his authority as head of state to chill criticism of himself. Like it’s not even close.”

Journalist Jemele Hill also came out in support of Rapinoe. “So as I’ve said previously about @mPinoe: Given this administration’s attitude toward the LGBTQ community (which they’ve enacted into policy), how do people not understand why she is upset,” Hill tweeted.

But some applauded Trump for inviting the team to the White House in the midst of his tweets. “Megan Rapinoe insults the president and the president still invites the US Women’s Soccer team to the White House win or lose after the World Cup. This is a big win for Trump. He makes Rapinoe look small here,” wrote Fox Sports Radio host Clay Travis.

Rapinoe isn’t the first athlete to decline an invitation to visit Trump’s White House. Last year, after the Golden State Warriors won the NBA title, the team opted out of meeting with the president.

Can You Wear White to a Wedding? Glamour and an Etiquette Expert Weigh In


Every spring, when wedding invitations start dropping through people’s mail slots, we get a flurry of emails from soon-to-be wedding guests asking, “Can you wear white to a wedding?” Popular variations include, “Can you wear an off-white dress a wedding?” and “Can you wear an all-white jumpsuit to a wedding?” Rationales include, “It’s the only thing that fits.” “It’s the only thing I like.” “I’ll add a pop of color with a sweater.” And, “But the bride said it’s OK.”

And still our answer, forever and always, is no. No, you cannot wear white to a wedding. Period.

So we’ll field one last email, and then we’re putting the issue to bed.

Writes a Glamour reader:

“I know that this is against the rules, but you know that feeling when you find that perfect dress and you can’t let go? So I have that problem. I’m going to my boyfriend’s friend’s wedding. (I don’t know the bride.) I found a white, knee-length cocktail dress that I really, really like, and I need advice: Can you wear white to a wedding? I can throw on some fancy shoes and a bag and a necklace. You know, add more color to it. What do you think?”

Here are our thoughts:

No.

Also: Seriously, no.

And we can hear you saying, BUT… so we’re going to answer your BUTs… right now.

BUT… I said I was going to add more color!Unless you’re going to “add more color” by putting another, non-white dress over it, a white dress is off-limits. No.

BUT… It’s the only dress that’s in my price range.

No.

BUT… It’s the only dress that looks good on me.

No.

BUT… What if I ask the bride and she says it’s OK?

Don’t ask the bride. If you do, she might just say yes because she doesn’t want to sound like a bridezilla. But even if she says yes and she’s really, truly OK with it, I promise you someone at her wedding isn’t going to be. And you don’t want to be forever remembered as the random girlfriend-of-a-friend who wore white to the wedding. You just don’t. So again: No.

You can buy another dress, you can borrow another dress, you can rent another dress, you can dye a white dress—you can skip the wedding and stay home and wear your white dress—but you cannot wear a white dress to a wedding.

We don’t care what the silhouette is (“But it doesn’t look like a wedding dress!”) or the color (“But it’s light cream!”). The only exception—the only one—is if the bride and groom specifically request that their guests wear white. In that case, by all means: Yes! Please wear a white dress.

In every other case: No.

And we’re not the only one who thinks so: Anne Chertoff, wedding etiquette expert and chief operating officer of Beaumont Etiquette, says a woman wearing white to a wedding—unless the bride asked, like Pippa Middleton at Kate and Prince William’s wedding in 2011—is disrespectful. “It gives the impression that she’s trying to draw attention to herself and away from the bride,” Chertoff says.

__But, good news:— You CAN wear black to a wedding!

Melania Trump’s Former Aide Stephanie Grisham Will Be the White House Press Secretary


The White House has set records with its rate of staff turnover, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders left another spot open when she announced on June 13 that she would leave her post as press secretary this summer. Her seat won’t be empty for long.

This week her replacement was announced. On Tuesday, Melania Trump shared that someone from her own team—Stephanie Grisham, her deputy chief of staff and communications director—would replace Sanders and handle press issues for the president and his administration.

In a rare move, Trump followed her husband’s example and announced the news on Twitter. “I am pleased to announce @StephGrisham45 will be the next @PressSec & Comms Director! She has been with us since 2015 – @potus & I can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country. Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the @WhiteHouse. #BeBest,” she wrote.

President Trump also discussed the news with reporters and called Grisham a “fantastic” choice for the role. “Stephanie has been with me from the beginning,” he said. “A lot of people wanted the job; a lot of people wanted to do it. I’ve asked people, ‘Who do you like?’ and so many people said Stephanie. She’s here, she knows everyone, she actually gets along with the media very well.”

Grisham is one of the rare officials who have been with the Trumps since the 2016 campaign, and she’s had multiple roles within the administration. She previously worked as a deputy to former press secretary Sean Spicer, who resigned in 2017. She’ll be Trump’s sixth press secretary in three years.

During her tenure on the First Lady’s team, Grisham emerged as an outspoken and controversial force who often responded to criticism directly on Twitter, much like her new boss. She took issue with the media focusing on Melania Trump’s “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” jacket, and defended Trump amid criticism that her antibullying campaign was at odds with her husband’s inappropriate and misogynistic rhetoric.

“I think that, honestly, one thing really doesn’t have anything to do with the other, and she is focused on helping children,” Grisham said at the time. “She has said many times that her husband is an adult, he’s the president of the United States, he knows what he’s doing, and she’s focused on Be Best, she’s focused on children. Children are the ones who are impressionable right now, and so she’s going to go out there and do the best that she can to help them succeed.”

How to Wear White Eyeliner – Summer 2019's Biggest Makeup Trend


I want to be the person who’s always trying new makeup trends. It’s so easy to convince myself that I’ll wear the neon pink eyeshadow, metallic lipgloss, or extreme contour that I’ve hoarded in my apartment. But the truth is, no matter how appealing a trend, I rarely break free from my daily look of natural skin, winged eyeliner, and a nude lip.

So imagine my delight when I noticed a trend on Instagram that was totally within my wheelhouse. Every time I opened the app, white liquid eyeliner, usually applied in a bold wing, was popping up on celebrities and influencers. It even made its way onto the Pose season two promos.

Graphic, ’60s inspired eyeliner has been having a moment for a while now, but it’s usually done in a bright neon or creamy pastel. White is a refreshing contrast. In art, white is the absence of color, so it’s almost like an anti-eyeliner. It still makes a big statement, but because it’s a neutral, it feels a little more approachable, and you don’t have to worry about matching other makeup or your outfit. It’s crisp and graphic like a classic white shirt, but doesn’t have the vintage connotations that black does. Plus, it will really pop with a (safe) summer tan.

As someone who has a cat eye down pat and is terrified of wearing color on my eyes (plus has no idea how to blend eyeshadow), this is the perfect trend for me. It’s a fun way to switch up my makeup and make me feel like part of the it-crowd without stepping too far outside of my comfort zone. So I challenged myself to try the trend for a week.

Since I’m so comfortable in a cat eye, I figured white eyeliner would be an easy switch. I was wrong. While a swipe of black eyeliner instantly adds definition to my eyes and wakes up my whole face, I found white did the opposite. It made me look a little sleepy and washed out, almost like a haunted doll which is….not the look I’m going for. The first time I tried it out, it stayed on my face for a total of 15 minutes before I wiped it off. Granted, I was having a terrible skin day and just not feeling myself overall, so I think I wanted to avoid any makeup that would call attention to myself. I gave it a shot the next night and went much harder on my foundation, which definitely helped me feel less like a drowned rat. I wore it out to a party and got several compliments, but still didn’t feel 100 percent comfortable in it.
