Inside The Bachelor Season 24, Episode 2: What a Bachelor Group Date With Peter Weber Is Really Like

It’s late September, and Peter Weber is now in his second week on The Bachelor. ABC has invited me along to a group date—a shopping spree and fashion show for Revolve clothing—with guest judges Carson Kressley, Janice Dickenson, and Raissa Gerona. Everything seems normal at first—I mean, it’s only the second week—but, as I soon learn, that’s not the case.

For one, Hannah Brown has just returned to great dramatic effect. (Is she really only there to give Peter his wings? Does she want Chris Harrison’s job? I need to know if it’s for the right reasons, people!) But when I sit down with Peter during a break in between filming, he makes no mention of his ex’s return. In fact, it’s not until I see the first Bachelor promo months later that I even know she makes an appearance. Whether she’s on Peter’s mind this afternoon or not, he’s not saying. For all I know, the only focus is on the women on his group date—and his own turn on the runway.

Still, Peter confides that it’s been a rough road already even though he’s grateful for the opportunity. “I know everyone says this, but it’s tough knowing there is going to be disappointment and heartbreak, and I’m going to be the one causing that,” he says. “I was on the opposite side of that last time. But all that means is that I just get one step closer to finding her at the end.”

He says he hates drama (um, does he know what show he signed up for?), but he’s trying to be very understanding of what the women are feeling. “It’s not normal to date one person along with 20-some-odd other people,” he says, just like every other Bachelor and Bachelorette before him. But it’s clear on this date that he’s already developing strong feelings for several of the women, including Hannah Ann (who got his first impression rose) and Victoria F.

Of the women, Peter says, “Hannah Ann made a very strong effort to make sure I saw her and that she was there for me. She just has this Southern belle-type adorableness and charm, and I just was very drawn to her. She brought me this beautiful painting the first night. I’m just very drawn to her, and I’m very excited.”

It’s not what I’m expecting to hear. I’m prepared for generic soundbites about how great all the women are, but here’s Peter genuinely opening up about where he’s at in the process. I’m into it.

Peter Weber Says This Season's Bachelor Finale Is the Worst Thing He's Ever Gone Through

If she would have said that she wanted to give things with you another shot before you went on The Bachelor, would you have said yes, or would you have said, ‘No, I need to give The Bachelor a try?’

Peter: Well, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I would have said, yes, I need to give this opportunity a try with Hannah. That’s just my honest answer from the heart.

Is there anything you didn’t know when you watched the premiere last Monday? Any surprises you weren’t previously aware of?

Peter: I don’t think I realized how funny Victoria F. was! Just from her comments in the interviews, that girl is hysterical. But other than that, I don’t think there was anything insane that I didn’t know of. It’s just cool to see, because you’re not in the house, you’re not in the mansion, it’s kind of cool to see the girls and how they interact together.

Did you know how they reacted to Hannah being there?

Peter: Well, I had an idea, but again, I didn’t know she was coming that first night. I was just as surprised as they were. I was really grateful they were so understanding when I went in to talk to them and explain why, but when she came back during the group date, I knew that was going to be awkward and uncomfortable. They reacted how I would if I were in their shoes, so I wasn’t mad about that. But it’s kind of cool for the first time to see the girls interact when I’m not there.

Looking back, what would you have told yourself heading into that first night as the Bachelor?

Peter: I want to say guard your heart more, but then I don’t, because I don’t regret that. That’s just who I am, and I’m someone that wears it on my sleeve. I don’t know if I would do anything different, but if I had to say something, maybe it would be that.

You haven’t said if you’re engaged, but are you happy with how things turned out?

Peter: Yes. I can say I’m happy. I couldn’t have expected it to work the way it did, but I’m happy with where I’m at right now.

Is there still more to come, as we’ve seen the last few seasons? I mean, things haven’t really ended just because the finale has been filmed.

Peter: [Laughs] You guys will have to tune in to find out! That’s all I can give you! I want to tell you so bad, but I can’t!

The Bachelor's Peter Weber Is Out Here Publicly Flirting With Charlize Theron

As Bachelor Nation eagerly awaits Peter Weber‘s new season of The Bachelor, he’s out here flirting up a storm with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron.

Ahead of the show’s 24th season, the 28-year-old Delta Air Lines pilot decided to shoot his shot after the Bombshell star posted a photo of herself next to a promotional billboard of him that reads, “Expect Turbulence.”

She captioned her black-and-white shot, “Turbulence I like.”

After seeing the photo, Weber initially commented “Buckle up Charlize.” But her later upped his game by recreating her post and sharing it to his own account.

He uploaded a picture of himself posing next to one of Theron’s Dior ads, writing, “Turbulence can be fun.”

Even some of Weber’s Bachelor Nation friends found the interaction funny. In the comments section, former Bachelor Colton Underwood wrote, “Shoot your shot!” while host Chris Harrison added, “Well played kid…well played.”

But the same can’t be said for fans, who were a little confused about what this means for the outcome of his season.

“U picked her?” one person wrote.

“Did anyone understand this?” another commented.

“So is this a hint as to how your season goes?” someone else added.

It’s no secret that Theron has been a fan of The Bachelor for years. In a 2018 interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden, she even gushed about watching the reality dating show. (Though she made it clear she’d never appear on the series.)

“I basically feel like I am dating The Bachelor, like, the show,” she said. “On Monday nights because my kids can’t read a clock yet so I get them to bed at like 5:45 and then I open a bottle of wine, take a bath, I get all ready and that’s my date night. I date the show.”

We’ll just have to wait and see what goes down on Weber’s season when The Bachelor premieres on ABC Monday, January 6, at 8 p.m. ET.

The Bachelor's Peter Weber Opens Up About That Windmill Sex

The holidays are winding down—but instead of getting depressed about the end of all the festivities, how about getting excited that it’s almost time for The Bachelor to return to the airwaves? Peter Weber, the airline pilot we first met on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, will have a new group of women vying for his attention and roses starting on January 6 when the new season premieres.

But before all that: In a new interview with People, Weber opened up about his now-famous windmill sex with Brown, who will also appear on The Bachelor this season. “A whole part of my life has just been blown up in the public,” he said. “My private life is my private life is my private life, and I don’t like that it defines me.”

“I understand that it came out,” Weber continued. “And I know people have had fun with it and I guess it’s a good thing that I’ve been laid-back and easygoing about it. But there’s so much more to me than just a windmill. And I’m ready for that to be left in the past.”

Considering that Pilot Pete has signed up for another round on the reality show hoping to find love, we have a feeling his private life might not exactly stay private—but it’s understandable that he doesn’t love that a lot of people associate him only with that moment on that show. He hopes that Bachelor Nation is ready to discuss something else. “Out of respect for hopefully my future wife that I want to find, we just need to move on,” he said.

Based on the trailers for the new season, we’re guessing that won’t be a problem. And Weber says he was definitely vibing with some of the women right away. “You can’t fake chemistry,” he says. “I definitely felt an initial spark right off the bat. There were for sure a couple [women] that I felt really strongly for.”

The Bachelor returns to ABC on January 6 at 8 p.m. ET.

*The Bachelorette*'s Peter Weber Addresses Claims He Dumped His Ex to Go on the Show

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: This has been one dramatic season of The Bachelorette. Guys have abruptly left the show, others have been accused of cheating on their girlfriends back home, and one guy repeatedly slut-shamed Hannah Brown. Even Peter Weber—the pilot and early fan favorite—had to face claims that he’d abruptly dumped his former girlfriend for a chance on the show.

He’s striking back at those rumors, though. He spoke exclusively to People magazine and addressed several comments that his former girlfriend, model Calee Lutes, made. Lutes alleged that the two of them were serious and even thinking about moving in together when he dumped her to go on television.

“There was a lot of truth to what she said in her story, but there is also a lot of truth that wasn’t mentioned,” Weber told People. “The show had absolutely nothing to do with me ending that relationship.”

According to Lutes, she and Weber dated for six months and broke up around Christmas of last year. She was looking on his Instagram for clues about why he dumped her when she noticed that a producer from The Bachelorette had started following him.

“He absolutely betrayed me,” she said. “He interviewed for a reality dating show while simultaneously planning a future with me. I trusted him entirely and he pulled the rug out from under me.”

Weber said that the timing and the reasons behind the breakup were different than what Lutes has stated. “I was very serious in trying to progress that relationship and move it forward,” he explained. “And she wasn’t on the same page as me. That being said, I wasn’t going to waste her time or my time. But the casting process and my first interview was months after we broke up.”

Lutes has not responded to Weber’s rebuttal.
