Kelly Clarkson Announces Las Vegas Residency


Over the last few weeks, Kelly Clarkson has been flexing her vocal power during Kellyoke, a popular segment on her NBC variety show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, in which she does covers of big hits. She’s done impeccable takes on Lizzo’s “Juice,” Britney Spears’s “Till The World Ends,” and even a Hocus Pocus-inspired version of “I Put A Spell On You.” But this week, she surprised fans by briefly singing a medley of her songs—and it turns out, it was all part of a bigger announcement she’s had brewing for a while.

To make the announcement, Clarkson brought out a few full-feathered showgirls before turning to the audience with the good news. “You’re probably wondering two things: One, ‘Why are there showgirls here?’ And what I say to that is, ‘Why not?’ And two: ‘Why am I singing a medley of my own songs during Kellyoke?’ Because it’s super vain and weird. I usually don’t like doing them during Kellyoke, because I feel like a tool, but today there’s a reason, so I did it,” she said. “When I launched this show I heard from fans everywhere who were worried I’d stop putting out new music and touring. Well, don’t worry. I got you.”

She continued excitedly, “I have a major announcement to make: I’ve scored my very own residency in Las Vegas.” The residency, she revealed, will be named “Invincible” after one of her songs. It’s set to run from April to September. It’s actually kicking off on April 1—Clarkson assured fans it’s not an elaborate April Fools joke—and it’ll take place at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Full dates and tickets were posted onto Clarkson’s website this week.

As Kellyoke has been reminding us, Clarkson is a seriously talented performer, and a Vegas residency sounds like the perfect thing for her. It’s coming at a time in which her TV show has been ranked fourth, according to Nielsen, among syndicated daytime talk shows, which means fans really want more Kelly.

“Not only am I getting to perform, I’m gonna get to play all the Wheel of Fortune slots, which is really my reason for going there,” the singer joked. “The gambling, the shows, the all-you-can-eat buffet, and crab legs, I love all of it.” She’ll be right at home.

Alex Rodriguez Was J.Lo's Biggest Cheerleader After a Show Mishap in Vegas


Alex Rodriguez has already shown he’s one of the world’s best Instagram boyfriends for Jennifer Lopez on the red carpet. But he’s also a constant cheerleader who’s been known to sing his fiancé’s praises in interviews and on social media posts. It turns out, he’s just as supportive backstage, too: At a recent concert, he was there to cheer J.Lo up after she had a tough time during a performance.

J.Lo released a video diary on Saturday that offers intimate, behind-the-scenes footage from her work-intensive “It’s My Party” tour. There’s one moment in the recording where she has some slight malfunctions onstage—she forgets a few dance moves and hits herself in the face with her microphone, drawing blood. She’s emotional when it all ends, but A-Rod meets up with her and her team and tells them how great they did: “It was the best show I’ve seen so far,” he says, turning to J.Lo a few moment later and adding, “And you showed why you’re a champion, baby.”

J. Lo is still pretty shaken up and tells him she’s not happy with herself, leading A-Rod to go full stage mom. He goes through each part of the performance and comforts her, insisting that she killed it. He also shares how he saw members of the audience loving every second of what was happening.

“I don’t even know what I’m doing,” J.Lo says tearfully. “And I would miss things, and I’m like, ‘Why am I messing them up?’…Like one step here or things that I never forget. I don’t forget anything!”

“Baby, nobody’s looking at steps. People are looking at how beautiful you look and how great you sound—and by the way, when you held that note, that was the longest you’ve held it so far. It was unbelievable,” he assures her.

The whole exchange is pretty sweet, but not a total surprise—after all, A-Rod has been talking about J.Lo being his “dream date” for 20 years.

J.Lo seems pretty happy, too. In a scene later in the video, she gushes, “That’s why I love him, and I’m going to marry him. Whether he wants to or not, we’re getting married. We’re getting married forever and ever.”

Celine Dion Is Officially Living Her Best Life at Lady Gaga's New Vegas Show


For the past eight years, Celine Dion has reigned as the queen of the Las Vegas strip with her long-running residency at Caesars Palace, which has helped pave the way for other superstars, like Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, to host their own residencies. With Dion’s show closing in June, Lady Gaga has taken up the crown: She opened her “Enigma” show this past weekend (December 28) with a scheduled two-year run at the Park MGM. And trust that Dion came out to support the pop icon—and then some.

Dion was spotted in the crowd at Gaga’s show, rocking out with her signature enthusiasm to “The Edge of Glory”—and the video footage of it is all but guaranteed to end your 2018 on a high note.

There is fist-pumping! There is clapping! There is shout-singing! There is jumping! All of these are basically standard operating procedure when preparing to hear one of Lady Gaga’s biggest bangers, but Dion really gives it the most.

She also brought some new choreography moves for “Bad Romance,” and we bow down.

(Our biggest question is for all the people sitting calmly in front of Dion: Do they not realize they are at a concert? At a Lady Gaga concert? In Vegas? That they paid a lot of money for? What is happening there?)

After the show, Dion posted (along with a clip of her playing air guitar), “I had so much fun last night @ladygaga ! Your energy on stage is contagious and you literally took my breath away! I wish you all the best with your #Vegas residency! – Céline xx”

Fans a bit less famous than Dion are also freaking out over the new show—and sharing some amazing clips on social media. Take this one of Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born: “The first ever live performance of this SMASH HIT is just too breathtaking for words. I just can’t…….?? #ENIGMA,” the Twitter user writes.

Lady Gaga also rides a giant robot, because of course she does.

Lady Gaga Is Getting Her Own Las Vegas Residency


Get ready, Little Monsters: Your queen Lady Gaga just announced she landed a two-year performance residency in Las Vegas. After nine years of selling out stadiums around the world, Mother Monster is headed to the showbiz capital of the world.

“It’s the land of Elvis, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, Elton John, Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. It has been a life-long dream of mine to play Las Vegas. I am humbled to be a part of a historical line-up of performers, and to have the honor of creating a new show unlike anything Vegas has ever seen before,” Gaga said in a press release distributed by MGM Resorts International, which is where Gaga will be completing her residency—specifically at the Park Theatre inside the Park MGM.

The residency will kick off in December 2018. There’s no word yet on when tickets will go on sale or the price point. Gaga is one of the most dynamic living entertainers, though, so seeing her live is definitely worth the price—whatever that is.

Gaga is joining a slew of contemporary pop stars with Vegas residencies. Britney Spears’ Piece of Me set at Planet Hollywood is one of the Strip’s most popular shows. Jennifer Lopez’s All I Have residency is at Planet Hollywood, too, and is set to conclude in September 2018. Both Spears and Lopez’s shows have redefined Vegas entertainment: It was once seen as embarrassing or career-ending to book a residency there. Now, it’s just another lucrative way for musicians to cash in.

“The rumors are true! I will have my own residency at MGM’s Park Theater. Get ready for a brand new show!! It’s been my lifelong dream to be a Las Vegas girl, I’m so overjoyed! LOVE YOU LITTLE MONSTERS WE DID IT, MEET ME IN Las Vegas!! #LasVegasGoesGaga,” Gaga tweeted on Tuesday, confirming the news. (She posted something similar on Instagram as well.)

“I’ll tell you exactly what I told my MGM and Park Theater partners – you can count on this performer always for one thing…I’ll leave my heart on the stage every single night,” Gaga also said in the release.

Alright, I’m sold. Who’s flying out to Vegas with me?

Carrie Underwood Honors Las Vegas Shooting Victims at 2017 Country Music Awards


This year’s annual Country Music Awards was not marked by tragedy, but rather hope and some good ol’ fashioned Nashville perseverance.

Carrie Underwood took time out of the award show’s standard “in memoriam” segment—which recognized country music artists who have passed away this year, such as legends Don Williams and Glen Campbell—to also pay tribute to the 58 victims of the devastating Las Vegas shooting that occurred last month. (The shooter specifically targeted attendees at a country music event: the Route 91 Harvest Festival.)

Performing a gorgeous rendition of the Christian hymn “Softly and Tenderly,” Underwood visibly became overcome with emotion when a black and white photo compilation of the victims appeared on a screen above the stage.

Underwood hosted the show alongside Brad Paisley for an astounding 10th time in a row, and the duo dedicated a significant portion of their opening monologue to encourage people to lighten up and enjoy the show for as long as they can—despite all of the terrible things going on in the world. The country community really is like a family, after all. “This has been a year marked by tragedy, impacting countless lives, including so many in our country music family,” Underwood said. “So tonight, we’re going to do what families do: come together, pray together, cry together, and sing together, too.”

Paisley added: “The way we see it, the best way to honor our fans is to play our music—loud and proud. Our music lifts people up and that’s what we’re here to do tonight. So this year’s show is dedicated to all of those we’ve lost and to all of those who are still healing. We love you and we will never forget you.”

The 'Mean Girls' Cast Reunited to Raise Money for Las Vegas Shooting Victims

On October 3, a.k.a. Mean Girls Day, the movie’s cast have come together to raise money for the victims of Sunday’s deadly shooting in Las Vegas. In a video shared by the iconic 2004 film’s stars on social media on Tuesday, they set a goal of raising $300,000 for the National Compassion Fund.

In the video, which was posted to Twitter by Jonathan Bennett, he, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and Daniel Franzese take turns calling their fans to action. “We know today is a special day, and that’s because of fans like you. It’s October 3rd,” they say. “This year, though, we’re doing things a little differently. We want to turn the attention to those who need it. After Sunday night’s tragic events in Las Vegas, let’s give back. In honor of Mean Girls Day, we’re asking each of you, the groolest fans out there, to help. We’ve started a GoFundMe page, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the National Compassion Fund. If every fan gave just $3 in honor of October 3rd, just $3, we would hit our goal of $300,000 in no time.”

They add, “Guys, look. We know ‘fetch’ is never gonna happen, but we can make this happen. On October 3rd, I’ll ask you what day it is, but we’ll also ask you to help. So, you go, Glen Coco, to GoFundMe.com/October3. Thank you for being a fan and thank you for your help.” In the three hours since Jonathan posted the video online, the campaign has already raised more than $9,000.

According to the GoFundMe page, the National Compassion Fund is sponsored by the National Center for Victims of Crime, and previously helped raise money for victims of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, the Aurora movie theater shooting in 2012, and the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The NCF website promises that “100% of the funds received through the National Compassion Fund Las Vegas will be distributed directly to victims,” and that donations will provide “critical support to the victims and their families” in both the short- and long-term. Fetch, indeed.
