Céline Dion Debates the Ending of Titanic on 'The Tonight Show'

Céline Dion sang the most iconic song from Titanic and she’s been known to pay subtle odes to the film every once in a while— she even attended several haute couture shows in Paris wearing a a replica of the famous Heart of the Ocean necklace. So fittingly she has some thoughts on the iconic movie’s plot points.

On The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, the Canadian singer weighed in on one of the most divisive debates from the film: whether or not Rose should have moved over as the boat sank to make room for Jack on the floating door.

Fallon brought the question up, joking, “Céline, I always try to ask you a good Titanic question every time you’re here because I know you probably love those.” At first, she was reluctant to answer and cracked, “Don’t put me in trouble. What if they want to do a Titanic number two?” But eventually the singer offered a very funny and logical explanation that knocks some of the wind out of the debate. “First of all, if you look closely [at] the picture, Rose is maybe dead or totally frozen, and she’s not quite all there, okay?” she said. “Second of all, he doesn’t need an invitation. Come on, baby! Make himself comfortable. Jump in. You know?”

She also made a really smart point about Jack being physically unable to pull himself on to the door. “And then who did not think about this guy who is in the middle of the frozen ocean and that maybe all his body is so frozen that he didn’t have the strength to… ” she said, right before singing a line from the song, “Jump For My Love.”

Pretty much everyone, from Brad Pitt to Margot Robbie, has debated this question. The film’s star Kate Winslet even recreated the scene with Stephen Colbert to give Jack some space. But, of course, Céline just masterfully changed the entire door discourse, like the legend she is.

Céline Dion Wore the 'Titanic' Necklace During Haute Couture Fashion Week, Because of Course She Did

The Heart of the Ocean necklace may have ended up at the bottom of the ocean at the end of Titanic, but that wasn’t about to stop Céline Dion from incorporating it into her Fashion Week looks.

The Canadian singer was spotted out and about on Tuesday in Paris, where she’s attending the haute couture shows, wearing what is easily one of the most iconic jewels in film history.

Okay, fine, it’s a replica—plucked from Vetements’ spring 2020 show. Still, it made for a moment. The rest of her look—an ultra-trend oversized blazer and a T-shirt that reads “I Heart Paris Hilton”—was also from the brand.

It’s not even the first time Dion pays a fashion homage to Titanic while wearing the brand. She famously wore Vetements’ oversized hoodie with the movie’s poster featuring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in July 2016… to Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris, no less. We sense a theme here.

Dion also wore a replica of the Heart of the Ocean necklace to the 1998 Oscars, when “My Heart Will Go On” was nominated—and won— Best Original Song.

Her latest outfit was relatively laid-back, considering her recent Fashion Week style record. As we’ve mentioned, she lives, breathes, and cries couture—and she’s dressed to the nines, whether she’s sitting front row or casually leaving her hotel. And our hearts will go on for it.

Céline Dion Is the New Face of L’Oréal Paris

Céline Dion’s eight-year-standing residency in Las Vegas might be coming to an end this June, but her heart voice will go on with a new gig: L’Oréal Paris just announced the 51-year-old will be the new face of the brand. Surprisingly, despite her global acclaim, multiple Grammy wins, award-winning fragrance line, and her recent renaissance as a fashion icon (Paris Fashion Week, enough said), this is surprisingly the singer’s first-ever beauty contract.

“I’m at a stage in my life where I’m excited to use my voice to empower others to feel beautiful, confident, and to learn to embrace themselves,” she said in statement.

Lest you think her commanding presence is limited only to the stage or Paris Fashion Week, Dion gave an emotional performance at a press event for the brand in Vegas earlier this month. “L’Oréal Paris has been the biggest beauty brand in the world for over a hundred years,” she told the room. “When they asked me, I never thought in my whole life it would be possible. Especially, not when I was young and not feeling confident or pretty—I was having problems with my teeth, was very, very skinny, and being bullied at school. I never thought L’Oréal Paris was going to ask me at 51 to become an ambassador.”

In an inclusive move for the brand, Dion will be in ads for not only skin care, but also makeup and hair. Her first campaign for L’Oréal Paris’ Excellence Hair Color will hit TV later this month. On top her contract, the singer also has a clothing line and new music coming out later this year.

In Vegas, Dion went on to talk about confidence and how she’s happy she’s past her twenties and thirties (“I don’t want to go back there”), along with how beauty plays a role in how she feels about herself. “No one can say, ‘Oh it’s just hair,'” she said. “Don’t tell me that you don’t believe that feeling and looking good isn’t helping you to walk sexy, have a vision and say, ‘This is where I want to go because I have something I want to say.’”

“I want everyone to feel that they have the right to express themselves,” she continued. “Whether it’s through fashion and beauty, by using their voice or through something else that’s important to them.”

Also, when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her answer was “dramatic.” Given these photos—and this performance—let’s call it mission accomplished.

Celine Dion Is Officially Living Her Best Life at Lady Gaga's New Vegas Show

For the past eight years, Celine Dion has reigned as the queen of the Las Vegas strip with her long-running residency at Caesars Palace, which has helped pave the way for other superstars, like Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, to host their own residencies. With Dion’s show closing in June, Lady Gaga has taken up the crown: She opened her “Enigma” show this past weekend (December 28) with a scheduled two-year run at the Park MGM. And trust that Dion came out to support the pop icon—and then some.

Dion was spotted in the crowd at Gaga’s show, rocking out with her signature enthusiasm to “The Edge of Glory”—and the video footage of it is all but guaranteed to end your 2018 on a high note.

There is fist-pumping! There is clapping! There is shout-singing! There is jumping! All of these are basically standard operating procedure when preparing to hear one of Lady Gaga’s biggest bangers, but Dion really gives it the most.

Watch for yourself:

She also brought some new choreography moves for “Bad Romance,” and we bow down.

(Our biggest question is for all the people sitting calmly in front of Dion: Do they not realize they are at a concert? At a Lady Gaga concert? In Vegas? That they paid a lot of money for? What is happening there?)

After the show, Dion posted (along with a clip of her playing air guitar), “I had so much fun last night @ladygaga ! Your energy on stage is contagious and you literally took my breath away! I wish you all the best with your #Vegas residency! – Céline xx”

Fans a bit less famous than Dion are also freaking out over the new show—and sharing some amazing clips on social media. Take this one of Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born: “The first ever live performance of this SMASH HIT is just too breathtaking for words. I just can’t…….?? #ENIGMA,” the Twitter user writes.

Lady Gaga also rides a giant robot, because of course she does.

Our 2019 resolution? Get to Vegas and see both of these icons, ASAP.
