These DIY Gel Nail Polish Stickers Are a Total Gamechanger

If you’re like me, you’re constantly weighing the pros and cons between a regular mani and gels. A classic polish is quick and easy—and it gives you the freedom to try more nail designs and color. The downside? It rarely lasts a few days (even that if you’re lucky) before it chips. Gels on the other hand have serious staying power, but they cost more and the removal is a PITA.

I’d love to be that person who’s always trying the latest nail trends, but considering the regularity in which I use my hands to unbox packages, nail polish is worthless, and I can never convince myself to shell out the $50 plus tip that a gel mani requires. That’s what makes this new brand ManiMe—and its gel nail polish stickers—so brilliant.

While nail stickers are certainly nothing new, what sets ManiMe’s apart is the insane wear-time and glossy, gel finish they have. Using K-Beauty technology, the formula is cruelty-free, 10-free, and doesn’t require you to expose your hands to UV light, since the gel is already set before application (genius, I know).

Founders Jooyeon Song and David Miro Llopis made it their mission to create a nail salon experience without surrendering quality in the comfort of your home. One of the biggest cases they were able to crack was the one-size-fits-most problem typical nail stickers run into. Their answer? 3D-printing.

After adding your stickers of choice to cart, the website prompts you to take a photo of your nails (over the back of a driver’s license or business card for size), which you then upload during checkout. (Believe me, it’s an easy process.) From there, the brand custom prints and ships you stickers that’ll perfectly fit your nails. The ManiMe pack also includes a prep pad to clean your nails, one mini nail file to buff off any sticker excess, and three sets of five nail stickers.

Beside how easy they are to put on—just follow the video tutorials on the website; the whole process takes about five minutes—the price is a huge selling point. ManiMe’s gel nail polish stickers cost between $15 to $25, depending on the complexity, and they last around 15 days, give or take. I can personally vouch for the lifespan and their water resistance-ness. Simply because it was wash day, I spared no compassion for these new nails of mine. The day after putting them on, I fully scrubbed my scalp and combed through my damp curls with my fingertips. A few days later, dishes and hand soap couldn’t get to them either.

Getting them off is just as easy too. After about two weeks of wear, peel them gently from the base of your nail and they should come off. (Just make sure to go slowly and submerge your nails in warm water if they’re being stubborn. The last thing you want is to damage or pull off your nail plate.)

Not that I have tried to keep this nail innovation to myself by any means, but the amount of questions and compliments I received from complete strangers was crazy. And it only got better once I revealed my secret: “Thanks, they’re stick-on gels!”

I think one of the most glamorous parts of the entire thing is the ability to mix and match patterns, sets, and colors. Designs that would take well over an hour—and, TBH, my budget—are suddenly doable. I’m currently on my second design pack and am never looking back.

Demi Burnett Came Out on ‘Bachelor in Paradise,’ and It Wasn’t a Total Disaster

Demi also came out to Tayshia Adams last night, and Tayshia offered, “I hate that you feel you have to hide behind such a strong shield and not be who you really want to be.” Obviously, we should be at a place where queer people shouldn’t have to worry about straight people blanching at the notion of same-sex love—but clearly, we’re not, and Demi was justified in being nervous to open up.

The show’s host, Chris Harrison spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Demi’s storyline and admitted, “I’m not exactly sure how we would have embraced Demi’s situation in year’s past.” He added, “I am not so naïve as to think that dealing with a same-sex relationship is going to be this happy rainbow conversation and all of America is going to rejoice.” But ultimately, Harrison said they’ve “leaned on” the queer producers behind-the-camera to tell the story “properly.”

“I felt that I owed it to them and to everybody else in that community to do this right and to make it respectable,” he said. “To tell this story properly in their honor. I leaned on them and we all leaned on them to make sure they felt like this was being fairly and respectfully portrayed.”

In the episode, Demi also opened up to Derek Peth, who she’s been casually seeing on Paradise, about the woman she’s been dating—and still has feelings for—back home. He, too, happily surprised me. He never made any gross or reductive comments, something I always fear in telling straight men that I date women. Instead, he was so purely human in his response, fearing that Demi’s heart was somewhere else, regardless of the gender of that other person.

Peth asked, “How can you both consider that and me simultaneously? And have this be just as meaningful, if not, you know, potentially more?” Any BiP love triangle would’ve begged the same question. Derek’s no hero for treating a queer person like a person, but he did do his part in normalizing queerness on this show.

So far, BiP is nailing Demi’s storyline. However, I have to say I’d be interested to see what the reactions from both male and female contestants would’ve looked like had a man come out as bisexual on the show. Regardless, it’s a start—and I can’t wait for Demi’s girlfriend to show up and burn this heterosexual island to the ground.

Ariana Grande's Valentine's Day Manicure Is a Total Mood

Fresh off Friday’s release of thank u, next—a standout album featuring 41 minutes of extremely excellent bops that reportedly took just two weeks to produceAriana Grande is also sporting a fresh manicure. Given that Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, it’s only fitting that it’s in line with the romance-themed holiday, as she showed off on Instagram Stories on Friday with some tongue-in-cheek humor. It just might not be in the way you’d totally expect.

Grande’s 2018 was more than a little rough, romantically speaking: a breakup with Mac Miller, followed by a 0-to-100 relationship with SNL comedian Pete Davidson complete with a ring, then Miller’s death—and then a breakup with Davidson. Her time since then has been one of taking a minute for herself, and apparently, the incredible burst of creative productivity that led to her new album. As far as dating, that’s the furthest thing from her mind: As she tweeted on New Year’s in response to a fan asking who she was dating, “spoiler for the rest of this year / probably my life: it’s no one. please refer back to this tweet for future questions. ?”

This spirit runs true in her Valentine’s mani, too—but with Ariana’s dry sense of humor. She posted an Instagram Story on Friday that first showed off her friend Alexa’s neon, heart-shaped, almost French manicure-like tips (we told you they’re coming back). Each one had a little Valentine’s message written on it, like what you usually get on those chalky candy hearts: “Hug me,” “Yum,”—you get it.

“Nice Valentine’s Day nails, Alexa,” Ari says as she pans the camera. “They’re so cute.” Next up is a glimpse of Ariana’s own nails, each of which is a plain baby pink except for her left ring finger, which has a “NAH” painted on it.

Her message is pretty loud and clear (and downright funny): It’s a thank u, next for Valentine’s Day this year.

Ariana Grande's 'Thank U, Next' Director Says Pete Davidson's Burn Book Page Was a Total Surprise On Set

Ariana Grande first met music video director Hannah Lux Davis in 2014 on the set for the “Bang Bang” music video. Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Jessie J, who all collaborated on the smash, had decided to hire a female director, and Minaj (who’d worked with Davis before) knew Davis was the exact woman for the job.

Grande has collaborated with Davis ever since—partnering with her on such iconic works of art as the visuals for her Dangerous Woman tour and her most recent internet-breaking, instant-hit video, “Thank U, Next.”

In that time, Davis has watched Grande grow into a fearless performer, but she still remembers her at the start of her career, when she was greener, but full of potential.

“She was kind of shy,” Davis tells Glamour, recalling the “Bang Bang” set. “Her eye contact to camera wasn’t as fierce as it is today, but I remember being like, ‘Gosh. She’s so good when she connects to camera.’ She’s just gotten so much more confident over the years, and it’s been so fun to watch.”

Davis hasn’t just been with Grande for her professional achievements—she’s seen her deal with personal highs and lows. Over time, the women have built up a trust and a bond that’s obvious in their collaborations. Take this latest video, for example. “With ‘Thank U, Next,’ I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’ve known you with all of these guys!'” Davis exclaims. “I never met Pete, but I knew her then, and I remember the Ricky phase, the Sean phase, and Mac. I was there with her for all of them! It’s cool to be somebody who’s been with her on the journey of growing up and learning and finding herself, and that’s what the song is about.”

Less than 24 hours after its premiere, “Thank U, Next” already has 47 million views. Glamour spoke with Davis about the viral response to the video, her creative process with Grande, and of course, the Burn Book.

GLAMOUR: You’ve worked on a lot of huge music videos with artists like Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato, and of course, Ariana, but what is it about “Thank U, Next” that is resonating with viewers in a way we’ve never seen before?

HANNAH LUX DAVIS: Well I think all eyes are on Ariana right now, and it’s such a personal and relatable song. In terms of the video, it hits a lot of notes of nostalgia, which brings in different audiences. It’s not just her younger fans, but also people who love the movies [we recreated], who might not at first be Ariana fans, but still want to tune in. But [the reaction] definitely feels really different and exciting. Ariana and I have been FaceTiming all day—she loves to FaceTime, she’ll never do a phone call or a voicemail, just a FaceTime—and she was just like, “oh my god.” We’ve been sitting on the phone just staring at each other going, “Oh my god, oh my god,” a million times back and forth, because that’s how it feels.

GLAMOUR: I read an interview you did with Billboard about your creative process with Ariana. Like how when you were working on the “Side to Side” video she came to you and said, “Let’s do something with spin bikes,” and you just took it from there. What vision did she come to you with, this time?

HLD: We were working on “Breathin” in New York, and I came over to her place and we were sitting on the floor in the living room with dogs and animals everywhere, even Piggy Smalls, who’s so cute. He’s like an old man girl, because she smells and feels like an old man, but is a lady. So we’re sitting on the floor and she was like I want to play you my new song, which was “Thank U, Next.” I was in total shock because I was like, “Oh my god she’s listing names.”

We narrowed it down to films that had the same common thread of a strong female lead, who went through a breakup, and came out on the other side a more empowered, strong, version of themselves.

Then we were talking about a video and she was like, “What about Mean Girls and a Burn Book? But instead of a Burn Book it’s a “Thank U, Next” book and I write all these things I’m thankful for in the Burn Book about the guys?” So right away you’re like, “Yeah, that’s it.” Then we went down a rabbit hole of that genre and that time and era and then we were like what if we did Legally Blonde? We just started listing movies and we were like, “We have to do Bring It On and 13 Going on 30.” Then we had to cool it and were like ok, four movies. Let’s do four.

We narrowed it down really organically to films that had the same common thread of a strong female lead, who went through a breakup, and came out on the other side a more empowered, strong, version of themselves—which is very much true to what the song was about. Like with Elle Woods, her ex-boyfriend lead her to Harvard, where she found her passion. She’s obviously grateful for her ex! So we focused on these situations that push characters into positions that are uncomfortable, but they realize they can do it and that’s a great message for young girls.

GLAMOUR: Another fun thing about this video is that it was an epic reunion. You and Ariana got to work together again, Jennifer Coolidge was able to reprise her iconic role as Paulette in Legally Blonde, and the cast of Victorious to came together for the first time in years. It just seemed like the best time. But what was it actually like on set?

HLD: She had a lot of her friends and former cast mates from other shows and any time somebody got to set and were in wardrobe they were just like, “Oh my god can you believe we’re doing it?” Ariana was like, “This is a coolest thing being a pop star has ever allowed me to do. To bring all these people together, all of these ideas together and to actually pull it off and do it justice.” [My favorite] behind the scenes moments were when Ariana would take a moment and just geek out over reenacting these scenes and getting to put a 2018 spin on it.

GLAMOUR: Speaking of cameos, the internet’s favorite one is far and away Kris Jenner. How did you get her to play the most epic amateur momager of all time?

HLD: So good, right? If you don’t use Amy Poehler, or Joan Grande herself, it’s gotta be Kris Jenner. It was Ariana’s idea to include her. They’re friends, so Ariana reached out and Kris was interested. It was a fast process to get her on board. On set she didn’t take herself too seriously and just got right in there and got into character so effortlessly. It was so funny because we’re doing all these ad libs with her and I was like, “No this is actually you! You are this person.” We had a few different Juicy sweatsuit options and we wanted to make sure it was just right. We had more than five so we could find the perfect one for her, and we found the right vibe.

GLAMOUR: So the Burn Book was the initial conceit of the video. How much of it did you have planned out? Did you and Ariana talk about what she’d write about each guy ahead of time?

HLD: She knew that she wanted to keep it positive, fun, and tongue-in-cheek. She was like, “Oh my god I should totally be like, ‘could still get it’ for Sean.” She kind of had some of these premeditated; like for Pete, writing, “huuuuuuge.” The one that came out as we were filming was the “sorry I dipped.” We were rolling and she was writing in the book, and we had to have her write multiple pages because we had to do multiple takes, but on that last take, she wrote “sry I dipped.” It was just like, gold. It was so real! She was so honest and that’s what makes it so fun.

GLAMOUR: Speaking of “huuuuuge” there were a lot of awesome Easter eggs in the video, including the references to “BDE” (Big Dick Energy) like on the logo of the UPS guy’s uniform, in the Legally Blonde homage! How did you decide to reference Pete’s uh, “size,” in this video?

HLD: I love that you saw that! I don’t want to tell people the Easter eggs, I want them to find them. But as for the uniform, [the actor] was actually wearing a UPS logo on the uniform, and we had to change it in post. Which is so fun because we get to go back and change things and that idea was all her, [to write BDE as the logo instead of UPS on the uniform]. We didn’t want [the guys] to be mad about anything so we were like let’s keep it fun, so if they see it they’d be like, yeah, that’s cool.

GLAMOUR: Pete certainly can’t get mad about this one!

HLD: Exactly!

Selena Gomez's New Song 'Wolves' Is a Total Jam

Selena Gomez is the queen of EDM collaborations. Her 2015 hit with Zedd, “I Want You to Know,” is a zipping, technicolor delight that features some of her most interesting vocals to date. “It Ain’t Me,” her song with Kygo that dropped earlier this year, is trippy, catchy, and stuffed with effects. And now she’s continuing her dance-floor reign with “Wolves,” a new, absolutely addictive collaboration with Marshmello.

The lyrics are pretty straightforward—Gomez laments about running with the wolves to reach some guy—but the production is what takes “Wolves” to another level. It’s a warm blend of Avicii’s 2012 smash “Wake Me Up,” Justin Bieber and Halsey’s collaboration “The Feeling,” and even a little bit of Gomez’s own song “Hands to Myself.” And her vocals are clear, crisp, and strong—a feat when the electronic production is this involved. (Her voice was sort of lost in the shuffle on both “I Want You to Know”and “It Ain’t Me,” but not here.)

Listen to “Wolves” for yourself, below. It sounds even better after the second spin.

This is the fourth song Gomez has released this year. She ushered in her new era with “Bad Liar,” a retro-pop tune that samples “Psycho Killer” by the Talking Heads. “Fetish,” a hip-hop grind jam featuring a rap from Gucci Mane, followed shortly after. “Bad Liar,” “Fetish,” and “Wolves,” are all sonically and lyrically different, which makes it difficult to imagine what Gomez’s forthcoming album will sound like. There’s one common thread between them, though: They’re exactly the types of songs Gomez wants to release right now. It’s clear she’s experimenting and having fun with this new music; she’s not really thinking about the “pop package” of it all—that’s what it seems like, at least. And it’s exciting. Cheers to this period being her most electric and autonomous yet.
