How Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Are Spending Their Time in Quarantine

As people adjust to the new normal of self-isolating amid the coronavirus pandemic, we’re also getting insight into the quarantine lives of celebrities, such as Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Reynolds was a guest (via video chat) on The Late Night Show With Stephen Colbert on April 1 and let the world in on how he and Lively are spending this time with their three daughters—and Lively’s mom, who is there as well. “We’re doing a lot of home-schooling. We’re lucky enough to have a little, tiny garden, so we’re learning a little bit about gardening. We’re trying to make this an educational experience,” he said. “But I’m mostly drinking.” Given that Reynolds owns a liquor brand, Aviation Gin, we’re guessing he won’t be running out any time soon.

“I do not miss masculine company at all,” he said of being in a house with all women. “Really, most men tend to just be the architects of someone’s demise. So it’s fine. I like just being here with the girls. I like doing the girls’ stuff,” he continued. “Like, I try not to push sort of gender normative ideas on my kids as they’re born, but each one as soon as they came out of the chute, they wanted to make dresses, they wanted to dress in hot pink all day. That’s what I’’ve been doing. This morning we made dresses out of tissue paper, which was fun for them. This is what we’re doing! We’re developing the skills that will take us into the new world.”

Like so many of us, Reynolds is overdue for a haircut and apparently Lively is going to take over those grooming duties—and we’d love if they shared this moment on Instagram. “Tomorrow, Blake is going to give me a haircut,” he said. “She did this once before. It took two-and-a-half hours. And then at the end it looked like she had done the whole thing using only a lighter or, like, those gloves that are made of sand paper. It would have been a little faster if she had just rubbed my head until the hair disappeared.”

Ryan Reynolds also stressed the importance of giving back if you are able. He and Blake Lively generously donated $1 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada early on in the crisis. “I’m not really in the business of telling people what to do, necessarily, but I do think it’s incumbent upon those who can give back to do so,” he said. “Particularly at a time like this.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Aren't Spending Christmas With the Queen This Year

After Meghan Markle and Prince Harry opened up about the hardships of public life in a recent documentary, sources speculated that the couple was considering taking an extended family break. Now, it looks like that quality time is coinciding with the holidays: On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that Markle and Prince Harry won’t spend Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II this year; instead, they’ll be hanging out with their baby and Markle’s mother Doria Ragland.

Royal reporters tweeted a statement issued by the spokesperson that read, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, [the couple] will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria.” While people may try to spin this into drama about the rumored riff between Prince Harry and Prince William, or the media scrutiny Meghan Markle discussed, the spokesperson made sure to emphasize that this is totally within protocol and it’s been approved by the queen herself. “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen,” she added.

It’s also worth remembering that it’s normal for the royals to spend Christmas away from Buckingham Palace. Prince William and Kate Middleton spent the holidays with Middleton’s parents in Bucklebury in 2012 and 2016, and as the statement reminds everyone, Markle and Prince Harry were at Sandringham the last couple of years. The message doesn’t specify where exactly the Sussexes will be, so it’s unclear if Ragland will come to the U.K. But we’re crossing our fingers that maybe this extended family time means Markle, Harry, and Archie will come stateside.

Chrissy Teigen Apologizes for ‘Tone Deaf and Icky’ Tweet About Her Mom's Spending

Chrissy Teigen, prolific tweeter and all-around national treasure, is never afraid to say what’s on her mind—even if that means she makes a mistake from time to time. She’s also not afraid to own said mistakes and apologize when she thinks it’s necessary, which she just did after a recent tweet didn’t go over so well with some of her fans.

Here’s what went down. Teigen tweeted what she meant to be a joke about her mom, writing, “My mom treats her air pods like they’re disposable. buys a few a month. she says they would be easier to not lose if they had….a cord.”

Some fans were upset at what they perceived as a comment that flaunted Teigen’s wealth and privilege. “Me, reading this after spending the night googling selling plasma. Why so many people follow these out of touch rich people is beyond me. And let’s not even get into the environmental implications of this,” one person commented. “Cool. I can’t afford to see the heart specialist my primary told me I need to see,” another tweeted. Another said simply, “Your family needs higher taxes.”

Teigen, unlike some celebrities, did not go on the defensive and instead addressed the feedback in a series of tweets. “Oh man I haven’t checked my mentions for a bit and I didn’t realize how many people were super pissed off about this. It was meant as a joke (and exaggeration) about how my mom doesn’t realize air pods are with a cord are headphones but it came across as super tone deaf and icky,” she wrote.

“I promise I will not always say the right thing in the right way but I also promise I hate disappointing or pissing you guys off,” she continued. “I’m sorry and I will do better to not be such an asshole.”

She even responded directly to some fans.-

Chrissy Teigen’s mentions are now filled with people either thanking Teigen for addressing the issue and those who thought it was funny in the first place. I guess that’s what amounts to a successful day on Twitter in 2019.

Lady Gaga Has Reportedly Been Spending ‘a Lot of Time’ With Jeremy Renner

I have some sad news for the people problematically shipping Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper: She might—and this is a big might—be seeing someone else. According to Us Weekly, Mother Monster has recently been hanging out with actor Jeremy Renner.

But not so fast: Sources tell the magazine Gaga and Renner’s relationship isn’t romantic yet. All we know, at this point, is the two are allegedly “spending a lot of time” together.

Gaga’s legion of Little Monsters claim to have receipts that at least prove she and Renner are friendly. According to one fan, the two stars hung out at the Black Rabbit Rose in Los Angeles last week, where Gaga gave an impromptu jazz performance. A Renner fan account on Twitter posted a video of Gaga’s performance and claims you can hear his voice in the background. Of course, take both of these tidbits with grains of salt. We won’t know anything definitive about Renner and Gaga’s relationship until one of them says something.

Fans on Twitter are more confused about this rumored coupling than anything else:

This is the second romance rumor involving Lady Gaga to pop up this year. As I mentioned earlier, some people are convinced she and her A Star Is Born costar Bradley Cooper are an item, even though he has a girlfriend and child. Their intimate performance of “Shallow” at the 2019 Oscars gave this rumor new life—but Gaga shut it down during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

“Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” Gaga said, chalking up her and Cooper’s chemistry to just good acting. “[‘Shallow’] is a love song; A Star Is Born is a love story. It was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time…. When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel.”

Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Spending Valentine's Day Apart This Year

It looks like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t be spending Valentine’s Day together this year. No worries, though: It’s just a work obligation keeping these two apart. Kensington Palace announced Monday morning (January 28) that Prince Harry has an engagement on February 14 at Exercise Clockwork, which is “the traditional name of the annual winter exercise, based in one of the world’s most demanding environments 200 miles inside the Arctic Circle, which has trained over 16,000 Royal Marines and Royal Navy sailors and airmen since 1969.”

Prince Harry, if you forget, is the Captain General of the Royal Marines and will spend his time at Exercise Clockwork meeting military personnel on the base, checking out the group’s severe weather equipment, and talking to a few aircrew members and engineers.

I understand that duty calls, but exercising in the frigid cold sounds horrible—especially when you know you could be kicking it with Meghan Markle, eating roast chicken and talking about old episodes of Suits.

Of course, the couple will have more opportunities to celebrate their love. The one-year anniversary of their royal wedding is just around the corner; plus, their first child is due around late April or early May. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” Kensington Palace tweeted in October 2018 to announce the couple’s baby news.

Not being with each other on special occasions is something Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have experienced in the past. Remember last November, when they couldn’t spend their engagement anniversary together because Prince Harry was on a solo trip to Zambia? When you’re the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it’s just part of the job.

Spending $100 to See *A Star Is Born* 8 Times Is My Self-Care

My friends gave me side-eye when I told them I was seeing A Star Is Born for a second time in theaters, so you can imagine their reactions when screening number eight came around. Yes, you read that correctly: eight. I saw A Star Is Born—last fall’s emotional juggernaut starring Bradley Cooper and Our Lord and Savior, Lady Gaga—eight times in movie theaters, and I have no qualms about it.

For context: I’m a writer who lives in New York City, so excess funds are limited. In no way should I have spent $109.49 on A Star Is Born tickets, but when the urge to watch Gaga sing “La Vie En Rose” at a drag bar kicked in, I caved. Every time. “You’re insane,” my roommate told me when I left for a fourth screening in mid-October, but I was too giddy about the impending performance of “Shallow” to care. By screening number five, it was official: I was off the deep end, and no one wanted to watch me dive in.

Well, one person did: my best friend, whom I’ll call “Blake.” (Just because I’m cool telling the world I sacrificed dinner on several occasions to watch Gaga belt the lyrics “Why’d you come around me with an ass like that?” doesn’t mean he is.) Blake loves Gaga just as much as I do, and six of my eight A Star Is Born screenings were with him. Even after our last viewing together, we said the same thing: “I can’t wait to see this movie again.”

My reasoning for that was twofold. Lady Gaga is up there with my mother in terms of people I care about, so, hypothetically, any movie she made would excite me. Especially one with a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If your favorite singer was suddenly in a buzzy Oscar film that included original songs, you’d empty your bank account too.

But that’s only touching the surface—or shallow, as Gaga’s character, Ally, would say. If Gaga starred in a Bridesmaids sequel, I don’t think it’d have the same arresting effect on me that A Star Is Born did. She got me in the door, but what kept me in was the movie’s cathartic narrative: A weathered country singer (Cooper) takes a promising young talent (Gaga) under his wing, they fall in love, and he crumbles as her fame eclipses his. Their melodramatic romance ends in trauma, and what’s left is a cautionary tale about celebrity, love, and addiction. Mix in the fact Gaga delivers several live music performances throughout the movie, and you have something that put me on the floor.

This catharsis, naturally, led to tears. Lots of them. I cried during “La Vie En Rose.” I cried when Gaga and Cooper sang “Shallow,” and again when she performed “Always Remember Us This Way.” Of course, I cried at the end—who didn’t?—but I also cried when Gaga appeared on screen for the first time. That’s where the movie differed for me. A Star Is Born moved many people, but my adoration for Gaga sent my viewing experience to another stratosphere. The film became more than a form of catharsis but actual rejuvenation, the kind people typically receive from exercise, face masks, or a long soak in the tub.

The way my friends talk about how they feel leaving spa sessions or workouts is basically how I felt after watching A Star Is Born. In my case, though, I put my emotions through the ringer instead of my muscles. When I left that first screening, I felt lighter. My stress was gone. My head was clear. Even my face appeared cleaner. (Does crying help with that? Does Lady Gaga’s voice?) I was exhausted, but in the best way possible. The second the film’s credits started rolling, I knew I had to see it again. That emotional soreness was just too good.

Every screening I took in of A Star Is Born ended like this. I left feeling like my heart had run a half-marathon—and so did my friend, Blake. We started chasing this high together, like friends signing up for joint SoulCycle classes. Each viewing led to the same euphoria, but we always discovered something different about ourselves too. Following one showing, for example, I realized the argument I had the night before with my sister was ridiculous, so I called her and apologized. A Star Is Born literally gave me mental clarity. (A movie about—spoiler alert—someone tragically dying will do that.)

I’ll admit: The judgmental comments I received from loved ones about my new self-care routine stung. A Star Is Born invigorated my soul and mind in ways I can barely describe. That sounds hokey, but it’s the truth. Every trip to the theater was a sacred ritual, and not many people in my life understood that. “Make sure you can pay your rent,” one friend texted me playfully but with some shade. Mind you, this person spends his money on activities I don’t quite understand, either—like sports—but I’ve never judged him for it.

And that’s exactly my point: I don’t splurge on fancy exercise classes or expensive clothes, but I’d never judge someone who does. Everything is fine on my watch so long as it’s not hurting anyone. If you want to drop $100 on a diamond facial, go right ahead. You earned your money. You have every right to spend it exactly how you want—in the way that fuels you the most.

For me, that happened to be eight screenings of A Star Is Born. (Full disclosure: My parents did pay for one of them. Thanks, mom and dad!) This movie was how I reset and recharged for two straight months. It transformed me in the most beautiful way. Thankfully, A Star Is Born hits streaming platforms January 15, so I’ll only have to buy it one more time. But I have zero regrets about how much money I blew on it. You can keep your essential oils and your bath bombs, thank you very much. Just let me keep “Hair Body Face.”
