'A Christmas Prince' Is Officially Getting A Royal Wedding Sequel


Well, this is a gift: On Friday, May 18—just one day before the big royal wedding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry—Netflix announced it will be making a sequel to its beloved original movie A Christmas Prince.

In a tweet, Netflix revealed it will be releasing a sequel that follows intrepid reporter Amber Moore (played by Rose McIver) and her fiancé, His Royal Highness Prince Richard (played by Ben Lamb), as they prepare for their own royal wedding.

“Hear Ye, Hear Ye. Ms. Amber Moore and His Royal Highness Prince Richard of Aldovia kindly request the honor of your presence at their royal wedding later this year,” Netflix wrote alongside a video showing the royal family of Aldovia tuning in to the real-life wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

In the clip, Amber furiously takes notes on her computer in her true reporter-ish style, writing things like, “converse wedding shoes” and “don’t become a meme.” (Too late, for that.)

According to Buzzfeed, the hotly-anticipated sequel will pick up right where the first film left off: after Amber helped Richard secure his rightful place as King. It will follow the couple as Amber goes on a journey of personal discovery to see if she really can make a great queen, while Richard deals with some rather unhappy political drama during the holiday season.

As you may or may not recall, people were pretty obsessed with the film when it was released November 2017. In fact, as Netflix shared, some people simply couldn’t stop watching the so-bad-it’s-good movie:

And it looks like this time will be no different as fans quickly hopped on social media to let Netflix know just how happy they are about the decision to bring more Prince Richard to the world.

“Can you believe I was just blow drying my hair thinking ‘I hope they make a Christmas Prince 2’ and I come online and they are,” Twitter user Ellis wrote.

“I can’t believe I finally thought it was safe to delete my giant file of A Christmas Prince screenshots,” another added.

Even McIver tweeted her excitement about the new movie.

In fact, everyone’s so excited about the Christmas Prince sequel they almost forgot about those two IRL royals getting hitched tomorrow. (Almost.) Though Netflix has yet to announce a release date, you can safely assume it will be some time in November or December. For now, you can at least scroll through more amazing reactions to the Netflix news below.

Patty Jenkins' Salary More Than Tripled for the 'Wonder Woman' Sequel


Director Patty Jenkins is having quite the year.

First, she gets immortalized as her very own Barbie doll for International Women’s Day. “I am someone who is lucky enough to make the films I want to make,” Jenkins said at the time. “But the honor of having a Barbie that looks like me and is doing what I do touches and delights the girl and child in me to the core. It celebrates all sides of me and my hopes for myself and others, in a very special way.”

Now, news is swirling about the well-deserved raise she’s receiving for her work on the Wonder Woman sequel which is due to hit theaters in 2019. A new Variety story reports that Jenkins will make $9 million for her writing and directing roles on the new film. The first Wonder Woman movie grossed over $400 million domestically and The Hollywood Reporter says that she was paid around $1 million (though there may have been additional bonuses based on the film’s success.)

Hopefully, Jenkins’ salary is the beginning of a trend of equal pay for female directors—something she has previously said she was acutely aware of during the negotiation process. ‘You’re of course aware of the money,” Jenkins told Variety last October. “But I’ve never been more aware of a duty than I was in this deal. I was extremely aware that I had to make sure I was being paid what the male equivalent would be.” She continued, “Women who have not been in a system that allows them to build up the same level of pay as men are not able to be paid the same as men forever if that’s the way it continues. You have to ask for it to happen, and you have to ask when you’re the appropriate person.”

'The Devil Wears Prada' Is Getting a Sequel All About Emily, Thank God


Andy Sachs may have come out on top at the end of The Devil Wears Prada, but have you ever wondered what happened to the fashion-forward dreams of Miranda Priestly’s second assistant, Emily Charlton? Well, now is your chance to find out: A sequel book featuring Emily is on its way.

On Tuesday Entertainment Weekly published an exclusive sneak peek at the first chapter of the story. The plot revolves around Emily, who has apparently left Runway in the dust and Miranda to put her own damn coat in the closet. As Lauren Weisberger, author of The Devil Wears Prada, revealed, her forthcoming novel will be called When Life Gives You Lululemons and focuses on Emily’s life as a high-powered image consultant. For her next job, Emily must travel to Greenwich, Connecticut, to consult an A-lister with a DUI to overcome. Clearly, she’s got her work cut out for her.

From partying at Gigi Hadid’s house to working for a Justin Bieber–like pop star named Rizzo, the first chapter alone reads more like a Hollywood tell-all than a fictional novel. And that may be what makes this next chapter in The Devil Wears Prada series so much fun. At the very least, the new book will be the ultimate beach read when it hits bookstores on June 5, 2018.

Twitter Is Really Unhappy That Johnny Depp Is Returning for the 'Fantastic Beasts' Sequel


Before Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, before Mark Schwahn and Louis C.K., it wasn’t impossible for allegations of sexual and domestic assault to have little impact on a powerful man’s career. It seemed like they skipped past the consequences of their actions and straight into the “second chance” or “redemptive” phases of their legacy.

In 2016, one of the year’s biggest Hollywood-adjacent stories was Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s divorce. It wrapped with Depp paying Heard $7 million and Heard—who had earlier filed for a restraining order against Depp and reportedly submitted a photo in court of her with a bruised eye—dropping her case against Depp alleging domestic violence.

In 2016, Depp appeared in Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass and Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, where he played the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. In 2017, he’s slated for 20th Century Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, along with four other films. His IMDb page lists three other movies in production and two others that have been announced. One of these includes 2018’s—and, once again, Disney’s—Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

At a time when production studios are reportedly entertaining cutting Kevin Spacey from House of Cards and severing ties with Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor, also under fire for alleged sexual misconduct, it’s not impossible to remove men who have been accused of physical, sexual, or emotional violence and abuse of their power from their projects from shows that center around them—and discuss, simultaneously, ways that those shows can still go on.

Which is why Twitter is really angry that Depp is still going to be in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The plot will reportedly focus on Depp’s character, the aforementioned Grindelwald, and last week the movie’s official Twitter account tweeted a look at the cast:

Almost immediately, users took to the “reply” feature to express their distaste that Depp remained in the cast picture.

Some pleaded for the return of Colin Farrell, who played a version of Grindelwald in the first Fantastic Beasts.

Others volunteered Jeff Goldblum…

…or the casting of Christopher Plummer (who replaced Kevin Spacey in the film All the Money in the World once allegations against him reached a fever pitch).

Some called on J.K. Rowling to exert her influence over the casting and get Depp out of the role.

Still others vowed to boycott the franchise:

Although it still seems unlikely Depp will be recast, his role in the movie is creating a lot of division among fans of the franchise. Given the raft of allegations against so many men in Hollywood—and the demand for consequences—it’ll be interesting to see how J.K. Rowling and those behind the film respond to the outcry.
