Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Next Public Appearance Will Be an Important One

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry still have a few things to take care of before they jet off on a much-deserved honeymoon. On Tuesday, only a few days after their gorgeous wedding in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, they made their first public appearance as newlyweds at a celebration at the Buckingham Palace Gardens in honor of Harry’s father Prince Charles. And according to People, Markle and Prince Harry’s next post-wedding, pre-honeymoon official royal outing will be at yet another family birthday party: Queen Elizabeth’s annual Trooping the Colour celebration, which takes place each June, several weeks after her actual April 21 birth date.

During the Trooping the Colour event, which falls on June 9 this year, Queen Elizabeth is honored with a military parade and royal salute, and rides in a carriage from Buckingham Palace to the nearby Horse Guards Parade grounds, where she inspects the troops and returns the salute. The rest of the family makes the trip with their matriarch, with royal colonels Prince Charles and Prince William riding alongside her carriage on horseback, and everyone else, including Prince Harry, Duchess Camilla, and Kate Middleton, following in a procession of carriages.

It’s clear that Markle is already completely comfortable attending formal events with her husband’s family. At Tuesday’s garden party, she wore a gorgeous pale pink Goat dress and Philip Treacy hat, shared a giggle with Prince Harry’s father and stepmother when a bee attempted to dive-bomb Harry’s face during his speech, and showed some subtle PDA to Prince Harry as they headed back into the palace. Clearly, she’ll have no problem whatsoever fitting into the family pics on the Buckingham Palace balcony at the end of this year’s Trooping the Colour ceremony.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Will Reportedly Travel to Mexico to Meet Her Father

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made it official (in front of the queen, Oprah, and the rest of the world), it looks like it’s finally time for him to meet Markle’s father, Thomas. If you somehow forgot, Thomas was initially supposed to walk Meghan down the aisle at her May 19 royal wedding, but after a paparazzi scandal and subsequent health problems, he was unable to attend. Now that he’s in recovery post-surgery, though, it seems the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may be planning a visit to his home in Mexico.

“I hear one of the things they want to do sooner than later — and now that they’re married — is to go and see Thomas Markle, who is recovering from a heart operation,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “We don’t know when this trip might happen. … I’m hearing from people close to Meghan and Harry that they’re very keen to do it.”

Understandably, Prince Harry reportedly “feels it’s very important that he gets to meet Thomas,” (according to Nicholl). She added, “Of course, Meghan — who’s been really concerned about her father’s health — is keen to go see him as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has spent time with his mother-in-law, Doria Ragland, who was at the royal wedding and spent the preceding days getting to know Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth. In the couple’s engagement interview, Prince Harry called Ragland “amazing.” In the same interview, Markle confirmed that her husband-to-be had not met her dad. “He’s talked to my dad a few times, hasn’t been able to meet him just yet, but it’s all been — it’s all been worth every effort,” she said.

Of course, it makes sense that Prince Harry is eager to meet this father-in-law, especially in the wake of what happened in the weeks leading up to the wedding. And it’s likely the feeling is mutual. Thomas issued a heartbreaking statement on the day of the wedding, expressing his regret for not being there to walk his daughter down the aisle. “The service was beautiful and it’s history. I will always regret not being able to be there and not being able to hold my daughter’s hand,” he told TMZ. “… Now I pray that Harry and Meghan can go on a nice honeymoon and rest and relax, and all of my relatives will just shut up about everything.”

Meghan Markle Touched Prince Harry's Back Today, and Twitter's Swooning

If you thought the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle mania was dying down now that the royal wedding is over, think again. The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex had their first engagement today as a married couple: the 70th birthday patronage celebration for Harry’s father, Prince Charles, at the Buckingham Palace Gardens.

At the event, Markle and Prince Harry shared a subtle PDA moment that’s setting the Internet ablaze. While walking back into the palace, the new Duchess of Sussex let go of her husband’s arm to give him a small back rub, as seen in a video posted by the Daily Mail‘s royal correspondent on Twitter.

Below, check out some Twitter reactions of Prince Harry and Markle’s tender moment:

As Cosmopolitan pointed out, this kind of behavior is yet another way that Markle is shaking up royal tradition; Prince William and Kate; Prince Charles and Camilla; and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip all rarely engage in this kind of “PDA.” The women of the royal family only occasionally hold on to their husbands’ arms while walking together, if anything.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, on the other hand, have never held back from outwardly expressing their love for each other. Way back in October, before they announced their engagement, Markle and Prince Harry were spotted holding hands, leaning on each other, and—gasp!—kissing at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games.

In recent months, as Markle began joining Prince Harry on royal outings, they often held hands while greeting well-wishers. And on Saturday, the couple continually held hands, gazed into each other’s eyes, and stole kisses throughout their wedding ceremony and carriage procession throughout Windsor.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Did Their First Engagement as a Married Couple

It’s back to work for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, apparently. Just three days after their gorgeous royal wedding that captivated millions, the newly anointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex completed their first engagement as a married couple: at a garden party celebrating Prince Charles’ patronages ahead of his 70th birthday.

The event took place at Buckingham Palace, and Prince Harry and Markle looked gorgeous, as per usual. Markle opted for a white and cream-colored dress by British brand Goat with a dramatic peach sunhat by Philip Treacy. Prince Harry kept things simple and classic with a black suit underneath a a gold vest and powder blue tie.

Veteran royals reporter Richard Palmer was on site to capture Markle and Prince Harry making their entrance to the event with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Conrnwall. Check out video footage of that, below:

And here are some candid shots of the royals right before Prince Harry gave his speech.

Prince Harry touched on several topics when he took the podium, including the bombing that happened at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester this time last year. “I’d like for us to take a moment to remember all those affected by all those affected by the tragic events at the Manchester area a year ago,” he said.

Palmer also shared a photo of the entire group to his Twitter account, too:

And now for the up-close shots of Markle’s lewk, because I know you’ve been waiting for it. Here she is alongside Prince Charles and Camilla.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Subtly Honored Princess Diana in Their Royal Wedding Portraits

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry paid tribute to Princess Diana in several ways on their royal wedding day. From the flowers in Markle’s wedding bouquet to the ring she wore to the reception, Princess Diana was very much a part of the couple’s special day.

And she even made an appearance in Markle and Prince Harry’s official wedding portraits—well, subtly. Both People magazine and The Business Insider confirm that the couch Prince Harry’s sitting on for the photos is the exact same couch Princess Diana sat on for Harry’s christening pics in 1984.

It’s a pretty unmistakable couch, if we’re being honest. The plush piece of furniture is forrest green with bright gold handles and legs. Even with all the children in Markle and Prince Harry’s photso, you can still tell it’s the same couch. You can see it from a mile away.

But check out the photos, below, if you don’t believe me. The first is of Markle and Prince Harry’s portrait.

Markle and Prince Harry first talked about Princess Diana in their engagement interview from November. Prince Harry included some of his mother’s stones in Markle’s engagement ring—a move that meant so much to the former Suits star.

“Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [the diamonds] and not being able to meet his mom…. it’s important for me to know she’s a part of this with us,” Markle said. “I’m able to somehow know her through him…. To be able to have this [ring]—which links where[he] comes from—it’s perfect.”

Prince Harry added that he thinks Markle and his mother would be “thick as thieves.” “She’d be over the moon [about our relationship], jumping up and down. So excited for me,” he said. “She would’ve been best friends with Meghan. It’s days like this where I miss having her around. I’m sure she’s with us.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Spotted for First Time Since Royal Wedding

Now that the royal wedding is over, the world has moved on to the next big thing: following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s newlywed life. On Monday, just two days after their royal nuptials, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were photographed for the first time in public since they got married. The photo in question was first shared by the UK’s Daily Mirror, which caught them “beaming” as they drove back to Kensington Palace.

In the photo, they’re both wearing large sunglasses and are dressed much more casually than the tux and Stella McCartney gown they changed into for the reception (which was the last time most of the world got to see them).

Take a look:

You’ll notice Meghan’s also wearing her signature messy bun—and are those the same Cartier earrings she wore at the wedding? To be fair, if we had those earrings we’d never take them off either. (Ditto with that stunning tiara.) Here’s a closer look for comparison:

Despite the newlyweds’ laid-back looks, they are not, in fact, on their way to Namibia for their honeymoon. As Kensington Palace announced earlier this month, they will not be jetting off immediately to their post-wedding vacation. Instead, they’ll be staying around the Palace for another week or so, catching up on royal engagements.

It’s not clear what those might be (the Royal Diary has yet to publish any upcoming events for the Duke or Duchess of Sussex), but whatever’s in store, we hope they’re well-rested after the wild, pizza-filled festivities at Frogmore House.
