The Headlines About Meghan Markle's Pregnancy Are Getting Out of Control

I think we’ve hit rock-bottom with the Meghan Markle pregnancy coverage, thanks to a new story that suggests the Duchess of Sussex’s “bendy thumbs” indicate she could go into early labor. There’s science behind this, apparently, but does that even matter? We now live in a world where the shape of Markle’s fingers are headline-worthy.

And here I thought it was weird that everyone saw Princess Charlotte’s face in her knee. (Remember that one? The media doesn’t discriminate when talking about Meghan Markle’s limbs, it seems.)

There are even more strange pregnancy stories where this came from. Let these five serve as a reminder to (1) stop talking about women’s bodies and (2) let Meghan Markle smile and wave and look iconic in peace. It’s what’s right.

People are really out here measuring how high up Markle’s bump is on her stomach. Think of all the things they could be doing instead. A non-exhaustive list: watching You on Netflix, baking blueberry muffins, looking into ways to cure the global water crisis. That brain power is better served elsewhere.

The word frenzy is only appropriate on two occasions, in my opinion: If Beyoncé announces she’s running for president, and if and when Olive Garden starts a drive-through service.

If you watch the video in question for yourself, you’ll see that Markle just breathes. She literally took a breath, and people acted like her baby did a dramatic reading of Stassi Schroeder’s book Next Level Basic from inside the womb.

Who knew Meghan Markle’s trolls were also geometry experts?

Groundbreaking news: Pregnant women can wear high heels! And they can work too. We really need to stop freaking out whenever moms-to-be exert physical energy.

How Many Pregnancy Tests Do You Need to Take?

Taking a home pregnancy test can be a minefield of anxiety; no matter what result you’re hoping to get, you want to know for sure if you’re pregnant or not. You don’t need to take six pregnancy tests to get answers. We asked the experts to break down exactly when to take a pregnancy test, how accurate they are, and exactly how the dang things work.

In a word: very. “Most home pregnancy tests work 99 out of 100 times if used after a missed period,” says Raegan McDonald-Mosley, M.D., chief medical officer at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. That doesn’t mean false negatives aren’t possible. If you take the test too early (aka before a missed period), you might get a negative even if you are pregnant. (More on that in a minute.)

The tests detect human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone that a fertilized egg releases when it attaches to the uterus, explains Alexandra Sowa, M.D., an internist and clinical instructor of medicine at Weill-Cornell Medical College. That’s what can, on those rare occasions, lead to a negative test result even if you are pregnant—it’s too early for the trace levels of the hormone to be picked up by the test.

If you get a negative result and want to be extra sure, take a second test. Just be sure to wait a few days—taking a second test in the same sitting won’t give you a different result.

As great as it would be know know if you’re pregnant immediately after you have sex, pregnancy tests don’t work like that. For the most accurate results, take the test after you’ve missed a period. Jennifer Wider, M.D., recommends waiting a week after your missed period; she also says it’s best to take the test in the morning, when urine is most concentrated. If you don’t want to wait that long, a blood test at your doctor’s office can provide results sooner than a urine test.

Depending on when you’re taking it, there might be some benefit to taking one test, and then a second one (again, a few days later). But cleaning out the entire drugstore shelf to be extra sure? Yeah, no. Stick with two or go see your doctor to put any uncertainty at ease.

Miley Cyrus Has the Best Response to Those New Pregnancy Rumors

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth officially tied the knot last month, so it was only a matter of time before the pregnancy rumors started rolling in. Lo and behold just three weeks later: The Daily Mail reports that the newly-married couple is expecting their first child. Thankfully, Cyrus was prepared for these types of stories, and she responded last night with the greatest clap-back of 2019 (so far):

“I’m not ‘Egg-xpecting’ but it’s ‘Egg-celent’ to hear everyone is so ‘Happy For Us’ …. we’re happy for us too,” Cyrus tweeted on Wednesday night (January 16) alongside a link of The Daily Mail‘s article. “‘Egg-cited’ for this next chapter in our lives…. Now , can everyone leave me alone and go back to staring at an egg.”

With this tweet, she also Photoshopped that egg currently going viral on Instagram onto her stomach, hence all the egg puns. Check out the tweet for yourself, below:

According to Pop Crave, Cyrus replied “bull shit” on Instagram when a fan asked if these pregnancy rumors are true.

What isn’t a lie, however, is Hemsworth and Cyrus’ wedding, which happened over the holidays. Cyrus shared this photo on December 26 confirming the nuptials.

“I love how you always try things your way, but are never to[o] proud to ask for help. (Yes, I’ve noticed and taken note, I’m a work in progress.) The way you paint, the colors you choose…. I love your dirty socks on the floor cause that means YOU’RE HOME,” Cyrus wrote in a love letter to Hemsworth that she posted to Instagram for his birthday on Monday (January 14). “…I love how you learn and grow. I love writing songs about you on the piano. I love how you let ME be ME.”

Carrie Underwood Just Got Real About Pregnancy Insomnia on Twitter

Sleeping while pregnant isn’t easy—just ask the 78 percent of moms-to-be in the United States who experience pregnancy insomnia. Carrie Underwood just revealed that she’s currently dealing with pregnancy insomnia in a series of tweets—and they’re nothing short of relatable.

On Friday (December 21), Underwood was up early with a Twitter letter to her pregnancy insomnia. She was rightfully annoyed with the sleep she’s lost while carrying her second child. “Dear pregnancy insomnia,” she wrote in a tweet published at 1:29 A.M. EST. “Please go bother someone else…like dads. Go bother dads. My husband sleeps so soundly and peacefully and I’ve been awake for 2 hours (so far). How is this fair? Imma lose my mind!”

Fellow moms and moms-to-be on Twitter chimed in with their own stories about pregnancy insomnia and their support for the singer. As if carrying a baby for nine months weren’t hard enough, several women also shared that they also lost sleep during their pregnancies.

Underwood followed up on her original tweet with an update sharing a little sleep-deprivation-induced behavior. While she couldn’t sleep, she went on an online beauty product shopping spree—with a grand total of around $600. (In her defense, there’s a lot of great holiday gift sets at Sephora right now.)

Fellow country singer Maren Morris could relate.

Underwood is currently expecting her second child with husband Mark Fisher, which she revealed the pregnancy in a video on her Instagram account earlier this year. Difficulties like pregnancy insomnia aside, Underwood said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning that the family is excited to welcome its newest member—especially her 2-year-old son, Isaiah. “He’ll be really sweet and talk to my belly and kiss my belly. He’s the sweetest little boy,” she said. “But no kid can really know that their life is going to change…. He’ll have to share Mommy.”

Kaley Cuoco Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumors (Again): 'Would You Say That to My Face?'

Kaley Cuoco would like everyone to know that she is decidedly not pregnant—and maybe, just maybe, people should stop speculating about whether or not she is.

The Big Bang Theory star posted a photo from what looks to be a very romantic trip with her husband, Karl Cook, and it got the rumor mill going in her comments section. One commenter wrote, “Are you hiding a baby bump?!?!” Another said, “When’s the baby due?” A third said, “But you look pregnant in tonight’s episode of Big Bang theory as well.”

Cuoco was having none of the speculation, so she shut it down where it all started: social media. Per People, the actress posted a screenshot to her Instagram Stories where she addressed the issue head-on. “I’m so sorry I bent over in a way to where my dress billowed in the wind and made you think this,” Cuoco wrote. “Question. Would you walk up to me and ask this straight to my face?”

This isn’t the first time Cuoco has taken on those who feel it’s okay to comment about her body and whether or not she is pregnant. Back in October, she posted a photo of herself and her sister on the red carpet and was faced with body-shaming social media trolls. “I posted a picture this morning of my sister and I from an event last night and people said I looked pregnant,” she shared in an Instagram Story. “Would you ever walk up to someone on the street or at an event where they’re obviously dressed up and say, ‘Are you pregnant?’”

“It’s just so comedic and shocking that people would ask that,” she continued. “I’m not pregnant. I guess it was a pregnant angle. Seriously, shut up.”

Cuoco is absolutely right that a pregnancy or, in her case, a non-pregnancy is nobody’s business but her own. So let’s just all stop the speculation, okay?

These Celebrities Aren't Afraid to Get Real About Pregnancy and Childbirth

We love a celebrity baby announcement here at Glamour.com—especially seeing and reading about how excited the parents-to-be are to meet their child. But let’s be real: pregnancy isn’t all ice cream and gorgeous glow, nor is childbirth the glossed-over, relatively sterile before-and-after we so often see onscreen. After all, you’re growing an entire human inside you for nine-ish months—it’s not going to be sunshine and roses around the clock.

We tend not to see this other side from celebrities: After all, a glam squad and years of professional training means they always look like they’re feeling at the top of their game, with not a hair out of place. But over the years, women in the spotlight have started to use their platform to talk about the not-so-pleasant sides of pregnancy and childbirth as a way to raise awareness of common experiences and issues women might not otherwise hear about (so many aspects women’s health today still aren’t discussed openly). And honestly—if this doesn’t prove that pregnancy and childbirth are beyond different for each woman, we don’t know what does.

Read on for a few celebrities who have told it like it is, from Chrissy Teigen being her usual candid, hilarious self to Serena Williams recounting a life-threatening birth experience.
