In February, news broke that Jennifer Lawrence and her boyfriend, art gallerist Cooke Maroney, were engaged. The only proof of this fans received at the time was a blurry photo of Lawrence wearing a ring on that finger. But now we have a soundbite confirming the happy news.
Lawrence gave a brief interview to Entertainment Tonight about the engagement this week at the Los Angeles premiere of Dark Phoenix. “Well, he’s just the best person I’ve ever met in my whole life,” Lawrence said about Maroney. “It was a very, very easy decision.”
Watch her explain this for yourself in the video, below:

This will probably be the only quote we get about Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney’s engagement for a while. The Red Sparrow actress has historically been quite tight-lipped about her personal life. According to Page Six, though, Lawrence was first spotted wearing her ring back in February at a dinner in New York City. “They seemed like they were celebrating and people were talking about [the engagement],” a source told the publication. “The ring was very noticeable. They were sitting back in a corner. She was wearing a cute black dress with white polka dots.”

The couple first started dating back in June 2018. Before this, Lawrence was in a brief relationship with her Mother! director Darren Aronofsky. Prior to that, she dated actor Nicholas Hoult from 2011 to 2014. Lawrence spoke about the latter relationship four years ago in an interview with Diane Sawyer, contextualizing it with the Hunger Games franchise ending.
“These movies had been my life for so long, and they had to come first in everything,” she said. “I was also in a relationship with somebody for five years and that was my life. So my life was this person and these movies, and we broke up around the same time that I wrapped those movies. Being 24 was this whole year of ‘Who am I without these movies? Who am I without this man?’”
No word yet on Maroney and Lawrence’s wedding date, but we’ll keep you posted.
The phrase “relationship goals” can feel overused these days, but when it comes to Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, it’s beyond apt. The couple is always super-honest—and often hilarious—about what it takes to make their marriage work. But they also just seem to enjoy each other so much—even when discussing tough subjects.
Case in point: Shepard’s sobriety, something that he’s been really transparent about over the years. In an interview with People published Saturday, Bell talks about how appreciative she his for the work her husband does to maintain a sober lifestyle. “I know how much effort has to be put into staying sober. I don’t mean that to be like, I come home and see him shaking and looking at a whiskey ad or something, [but] there are different elements you have to deal with when you’re staying sober,” she says. “It’s a ton of mental control and evolution.”
To make Shepard’s accomplishment, the couple celebrate his “sober birthday” each year, just as one might a regular birthday. She “spoils the hell out of me,” he says. “The nicest presents she’s gotten me are always on my sober birthday. In fact, my real birthday … still haven’t gotten a present!”
“I’m very happy he was born so I celebrate his birthday, but I’m extraordinarily [happy] that he has stayed sober because that’s what allows me to have him in my life as a husband and as a father,” Bell added.
She’s also spoken out on Instagram to publicly show her pride for her husband’s sobriety, too. “I know how much you loved using. I know how much it got in your way. And I know, because I saw, how hard you worked to live without it,” she wrote on his 14th sobriety birthday last September. “I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night.”
“I’m so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story, but instead shared it widely, with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves. You have certainly inspired me to do so,” she continued. “I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone, and I want you to know, I see you. I see how hard you work. You set an excellent example of being human. Happy 14th year sobriety birthday.”
Supportive even through the tough stuff—now that’s a real couple goal.
Pete Davidson commented on his relationship with actress Kate Beckinsale during Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” segment last night (March 9). Though the comedian didn’t mention her explicitly by name, he fully acknowledged his love life following his split from Ariana Grande after host Colin Jost asked him about his new “girlfriend.”
“Anything else going on?” Jost asked Davidson, who smiled coyly. “No, I’m good, I don’t think so,” he replied.
“Not like a new girlfriend situation at all, Pete?” Jost asked again, which prompted Davidson, 25, to talk about Beckinsale, 45—and call out the media’s “crazy” fascination with their 20-year age gap. “Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Apparently, people have a crazy fascination with our age difference,” he added. “It doesn’t really bother us.”
“But then again, I’m new to this, so if you have questions about relationships with a big age difference, just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Disick, Dane Cook…” he went on, listing of a bunch of other men who have dated women much younger than them.
It’s an incredibly valid point—most people don’t even think about a large age gap when it’s an older-man-younger-woman situation.
Check out the clip below:
Davidson and Beckinsale first sparked romance rumors in January after they were seen flirting at a 2019 Golden Globes afterparty. They were also spotted out and about together in New York City a handful of times before confirming their relationship with a kiss at a recent hockey game.
Cheers to the happy couple—and the reminder that age is, after all, just a number.
At the end of each year, it’s typical for people to post a highlight reel from the past 12 months on social media. Actress Shay Mitchell decided to share not only the good—the business launch, the travel, the friends—but also the painful, like how in 2018, she suffered a miscarriage.
“Although it was an amazing year, it didn’t come without some hardships,” Mitchell wrote on her Instagram Story on Tuesday, before sharing an image of a sonogram with a broken heart over it.
“We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life,” the following slide read. “And sometimes it’s easier to only showcase the good times on social media, which is what leads many people to criticize it for its lack of authenticity. Having so many people follow me on Instagram and read my posts is both incredibly humbling and hugely uplifting. The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams.”
Mitchell decided to share her experience with miscarriage, she explained, in order to encourage compassion on social media, as well as an understanding that people only share a fraction of what they’re going through personally.
“In the spirt of the new year, I think that we need to remember that we are all on this journey together—in good times and in bad—and to remind ourselves that we seldom really know or understand the struggles and hardships that other people are going through,” Mitchell wrote. “So, for 2019, let’s all try to be a little more compassionate, empathetic, patient and thoughtful with each other. This sounds like a great resolution to me. I hope that you agree. Happy New Year everyone.”
Actress Gabrielle Union and husband Dwyane Wade have been incredibly forthright about their experience trying to have a child, from experiencing close to 10 miscarriages to the years-long battle with trying to get pregnant. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant—I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle,” she wrote in her memoir. In November, they welcomed their first daughter, Kaavia James, who was born via surrogate. And in an exclusive interview with Oprah that aired on OWN, the Union-Wade parents recounted their struggle in the hopes of increasing awareness and visibility around infertility.
Union and Wade wanted to share their story to help those who are dealing with infertility “feel seen,” according to Union: “They feel like they’re not alone,” she told Oprah.
The couple recounted their experience going through IVF—having embryos implanted and take, only to miscarry; trying again and again, thinking “you work hard, you do the right things, you’re a good person,” as Union put it. She “could not let go of this idea of creating this life within me,” she added, feeling there was a “need to be pregnant for everybody, including myself.”
Wade would get concerned about Union: “I’m watching her do things to her body and to herself that it’s getting to the point where it’s not healthy,” he told Oprah. “And as I always told her: ‘I want this baby just as much as you do, but I married you, and you are the most important thing to me.’ So it came to a point where, you know, I started to feel a certain way about that because I didn’t want something to happen to her.'”
Eventually, the Union-Wades opted for a surrogate—though, Union said she still struggles with her feelings around using one: “Did I miss—did I fail in some kind of way? Did I—am I defective in some kind of deep, you know, just—am I defective in some kind of way? Am I less than in some kind of way? Am I less worthy in some kind of way?”

The couple was involved throughout their surrogate’s entire pregnancy, “trying to feel as a part of the birth process as possible, since it’s happening outside of both of us. But it’s been a long—a long journey,” Union said. They were at the hospital when their surrogate was in labor, and described the experience of being in the delivery room with her and her husband as deeply bonding.
“Everyone’s journey is different. Everyone’s journey to surrogacy is different,” Union said. By being open about their journey, the Union-Wades want to spark hope in couples going through similar circumstances— and break some of the stigma that still surrounds infertility.
“So many people are suffering in silence and every time, when we’re candid and transparent about our journeys, no matter what those journeys are, you are allowing people to be seen and heard and empowered in ways that they’ve never been,” Union told Oprah.
Since the show aired on OWN, people have taken to social media to praise the couple for their honesty and for bringing attention to this incredibly personal subject.
“Oprah and @itsgabrielleu are really on OWN discussing Black women’s infertility, painful periods, and seeking help instead of suffering in silence. What a time,” Evette Dionne wrote on Twitter.
“WOW! I just watched @itsgabrielleu & @dwyanewade special on @owntv and I was soo inspired by their story!I laughed, I cried, I learned so much… my spirit was truly moved,” actress Naturi Naughton shared on Instagram.
“I appreciate how @itsgabrielleu showed us the potential challenges of egg freezing on @beingmaryjane and then shared so much about @DwyaneWade and her personal journey with IVF on @OWNTV. Thank you! Learned a lot from both,” another user posted on Twitter.
“So glad @DwyaneWade & @itsgabrielleu are addressing the boundaries people cross when a couple goes through IVF and other methods to have children. It’s still so dissapointing to know how much people don’t really know about basic genetics,” one user wrote.
Khloé Kardashian has never been one to censor her speech. Known for her no-holds-barred approach to telling it like it is, the reality star has, on multiple occasions, used social media to call out naysayers and dish on some of the most intimate aspects of her life. As a new mom to baby True, the star has continued her social media candor, this week taking to Twitter to open up about her recent struggles with breastfeeding.
On Sunday, Kardashian replied to a Twitter user who asked the star if “it hurt breastfeeding?” In her response, Kardashian explained that after trying “for weeks and weeks,” she was unable to continue breastfeeding due to post-pregnancy stress. “I guess due to stress my milk was not coming in,” she explained. “I tried and I just couldn’t give her enough. So I had to go to formula.”
Khloé’s candor struck a nerve. Almost immediately responses began pouring in from women across the Twitter-verse with their own difficult breastfeeding stories to share.
Apparently this is pretty common—especially with first-time moms. “Stress reduces the production of oxytocin, which is essential for milk letdown,” Rallie McAllister, M.D., Nanobebe ambassador, says. “New moms tend to be more stressed in general and more stressed about breastfeeding in particular,” she explains. Translation: It’s not uncommon to end up in Kardashian’s situation.
As a lot of women on Twitter expressed, not being able to breastfeed can be emotionally charged. “I tried everything and couldn’t produce more than half an ounce. I felt like a failure,” one user wrote.
There are some ways to combat this post-natal lactation stress—Dr. McAllister suggests pumping between nursing sessions, drinking plenty of H2O, and getting lots of rest. But more importantly, new moms need the support to do what’s most comfortable for them, whether that’s breastfeeding, formula feeding, or a mixture of both. No matter what new moms choose, thanks to Khloé, there are more opportunities to open up about it.
