Cara Delevingne Opened Up About How Dating Ashley Benson Has Changed Her

When Cara Delevingne and actress Ashley Benson began dating a little over a year ago, Delevingne seemed to keep her personal life a little closer to the vest. Which, fair enough: She’s a celebrity—boundaries must be set! But having Benson in the picture, said Delevingne in a recent Porter interview, has led her to become a more open, trusting person who no longer ‘pushes people away.’ Ah, love.

“I’d never truly let anyone in before, for fear of them leaving,” Delevingne said of life before Benson in the interview, published Friday (September 13). “I never really trusted people, or felt worthy of it, and I always pushed them away.”

But with Benson, she says, that just wasn’t an option: “She’s the first person that has said, ‘You can’t push me away. I’m going to be nice to you, I love you.’ I’m just like, wait, so all I have to do is just let you be nice to me? Why have I never done that before?”

This isn’t the first time the two revealed little bits and pieces of their romance. In June, the duo revealed they were officially dating by posting a video of them kissing on set. The pair even appears to have inked their love with tattoos referencing one another.

Earlier in September, Delevingne shared a bit more of her romantic life during an interview with Elle UK. After the interviewer asked her what love felt like for her, Delevingne replied, “I’m just better when I’m in love.”

“That doesn’t have to mean with someone,” she added. “It can also mean with myself. It just feels incredible when you’re not alone, when you’re facing the world with someone else.”

As to why the pair keep their relationship out of the public eye, Delevingne told Elle UK, “Because it’s sacred. I get why people care so much, and I don’t want to be so secretive that people think I’m ashamed of anything… But I’ve never been in a relationship where things are so public, or where I posted pictures of someone else. This seemed different. We had gotten to the point where we had kept it a secret, or at least not wanted attention, and now I feel like I’m not going to not be proud. Which isn’t the same thing as wanting to pose on a red carpet together, either.”

Each couple has their own style—and it certainly seems like Delevingne and Benson have found the balance that works right for them.

Cara Delevingne Just Opened Up About Her 'Sacred' Relationship With Ashley Benson

In June, after months of speculation, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson publicly confirmed their relationship with an Instagram video of the two kissing. Since then, they’ve been the subject of marriage rumors and gotten tattoos that appear to reference each other.

But we haven’t really known much about their relationship, until now, thanks to a new interview Delevingne gave to Elle UK. The interviewer, Derek Blasberg, referenced the model-actress’s speech at a Trevor Project event where she’d mentioned that she was in love. “What does love feel like for Cara?” he asked.

“I’m just better when I’m in love,” she said. “That doesn’t have to mean with someone. It can also mean with myself. It just feels incredible when you’re not alone, when you’re facing the world with someone else.”

Delevingne also explained why she and Benson have tried to keep a low profile and not speak too much publicly about their relationship.

“Because it’s sacred. I get why people care so much, and I don’t want to be so secretive that people think I’m ashamed of anything,” she said. “But I’ve never been in a relationship where things are so public, or where I posted pictures of someone else. This seemed different. We had gotten to the point where we had kept it a secret, or at least not wanted attention, and now I feel like I’m not going to not be proud. Which isn’t the same thing as wanting to pose on a red carpet together, either.”

“People make their own assumptions and that’s what worried me. Because if it is something that is so good, you don’t ever want anyone to ever change it, even though people shouldn’t have that power.”

Honestly, that sounds like an extremely healthy approach to trying to have a relationship as a person in the spotlight. Good luck, you two!

Serena Williams Powerfully Opened Up About Missing Her Daughter While Competing

Serena Williams is a superhero in more ways than one: She’s a world tennis champion, an activist for equality, and a mother to almost-2-year-old daughter Olympia, whom she raises with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. But it’s not easy being a working mom, especially when you’re a highly visible pro athlete. As she competes in the U.S. Open this weekend, Williams shared in an on-court interview, per Forbes, how difficult it could be being away from her daughter during tournaments.

“I actually prefer playing in the day because I get to go home and see my baby,” Williams, the No. 8 seed and 23-time major champion, said on court after dispatching Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the fourth round. “I’ve been missing her the last few nights when I play.”

Although there won’t be a birthday party—Williams is a Jehovah’s Witness and doesn’t celebrate birthdays—Olympia turns 2 on Sunday, September 1. Williams reflected on Olympia’s birth and her own career since having her daughter.

“I think two years ago I had things attached to my arm, IVs, and it was a miracle that happened, having my baby,” she said, according to Forbes. “It was really a great day for me. Then it all went downhill. It all went downhill after that for a good five days. But I’m here, and I’m going to be reflecting on my opponent more than anything.”

Williams added that Olympia has been saying “By-ee” every day when the tennis great leaves for the U.S. Open, which lasts two weeks.

“It’s different,” Serena said, according to Forbes. “In the beginning she would really be upset when I left. And now she’s a little bit better. I think I’m a little more upset. But at the same time, she definitely still takes it a little hard. She’s still super young.

“You know, it’s hard. Sometimes my heart literally aches when I’m not around her. But, you know, it’s good for me, I guess, to keep working and just to all moms out there that it’s not easy. It’s really kind of painful sometimes. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.”

Once the tournament is wrapped, however, things to back to normal—and the two have plenty of time to hang together. Williams takes care of training in the morning and then be with her the rest of the day.

Anne Hathaway Powerfully Opened Up About Going Through 'Infertility Hell'

Anne Hathaway confirmed in late July that she’s expecting her second child with husband Adam Shulman, but in her announcement, she also shared that her path to pregnancy wasn’t an easy one. Since then, the actress has been speaking candidly about her experience with infertilityto let other women going through the same thing know they’re not alone. In a new interview with The Daily Mail, published Thursday (August 1), Hathaway opened up even more about her struggle to get pregnant, saying that going through “infertility hell” left her feeling “broken” and “devastated.”

“Each time I was trying to get pregnant and it wasn’t going my way, someone else would manage to conceive,” she told the Mail. “I knew intellectually that it didn’t happen just to torment me, but, to be honest, it felt a little bit like it did.”

This is precisely why she addressed her fertility issues in her July pregnancy announcement. Alongside a black-and-white picture of herself, Hathaway wrote in the caption: “For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”

In the interview, she also explained her decision to be so open in her post: “When I said to them: ‘This has happened to me, it broke my heart, it broke me,’ so many of them said: ‘It happened to me, too,’ and that was the thing that allowed me to come through it, to feel my pain without having anyone rush in to define it or cure it.”

Hathaway went on to discuss her feelings about social media and how Instagram does not make easy for women struggling to have a baby. “I sometimes think Instagram makes life look really breezy, but that’s not the whole story,” she said. “By leaving out the sad part, we make women who are struggling with this feel isolated and lonely; we make them feel like it’s all their fault. I wanted to be more sensitive than that.”

The actress, who has a 3-year-old son, also said more conversations about infertility need to be had so that we can collectively put an end to the social stigmas surrounding pregnancy and children.

“What made matters worse was that I was embarrassed to feel like that because there was no conversation to be had about it. This is something people don’t talk about, and I think they should,” Hathaway told the Daily Mail.

“So, when I was writing that post, I was thinking about that one follower I might reach, the woman who’s in hell about this and can’t figure out why it’s not happening for her,” Hathaway said. “She’s going to see my announcement and, while I understand she will be happy for me, I also know that something about it will make her feel worse. I just wanted to say: ‘Look, this wasn’t as easy for me as it looks.'”

Gwyneth Paltrow Just Opened Up About Aging as a Woman in Hollywood

Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about what it’s like to grow older on a new Goop podcast, The Beauty Closet, explaining that even she hasn’t totally acclimated to the pressure of the spotlight. “I’ve always felt so funny about my looks,” she said, according to People. “I think that it’s very rare to think that you’re a beautiful person, and so, I feel like every other woman—like, I don’t see that when I look in the mirror.”

The fact that Hollywood remains fixated on youth doesn’t help, she added. Despite the fact that Paltrow, 46, still fits well within the industry’s narrow standards of beauty, the actress and entrepreneur shared she’s conscious of aging. “It’s a weird thing to be—I don’t mean in a pejorative way—objectified,” she said. “I think when you come to age…what does it mean to get wrinkles and get closer to menopause, and all these things…. What happens to your identity as a woman if you’re not fuckable and beautiful?” (Of course, that’s not a problem it seems famous men have to deal with.)

But Paltrow didn’t dwell too much on the downsides of growing older, or even on the existential questions the process sometimes poses. Instead, she said, aging has given her more clarity about who she is as a person and the values she considers important.

“You know, as I go on in life and I feel more and more myself and less judgmental about myself, my values become clearer to me,” she said. “I can be in integrity all the time, which was much harder when you’re a younger woman and you’re trying to please and juggling all this stuff.”

Later, she added, “Luckily, what’s happening at the same time in parallel is you just start to like yourself. I think you get to a point where it’s almost like your sort of pulchritude is waning in a way and your inner beauty is, like, really coming out, and so it’s this funny shift that’s happening.”

“It’s like, you feel so good; you know who you are, hopefully; you value the relationships in your life and your work and your contribution to the world,” she said, “But then you’re like, ‘Wow, I have crow’s feet. Damn!'”

Of course, there’s nothing inherently good or bad about crow’s feet, but if their arrival comes with a deeper sense of self, we’re here for it.

Serena Williams Opened Up About Meghan Markle Supporting Her at Wimbledon

It’s been a busy few weeks of play at Wimbledon, and the women’s matches continued wrapping up on Saturday with the singles final. Ultimately, Serena Williams lost the match to Simona Halep of Romania 6-2, 6-2. There to support Williams through the tough rounds of play? None other than the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, one of her very good friends (reportedly, Williams helped organized her baby shower in New York).

Markle wasn’t watching alone, either: Both Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa Middleton were there—the first time the three have been seen hanging out together at Wimbledon. (And looking chic doing it, of course.) Time flies, but it’s been a year since Wimbledon marked the first time Kate Middleton and Markle had hung out in public together.

After the match, Williams opened up about what having Markle in the stands meant to her as she was sweating it out on the court below. During a post-match press conference, she said that having the duchess’s support was “great.” “She’s such a great friend and a great person as well. And always positive, no matter what,” Williams said, according to People.

“It’s so good to have people like that, just to know,” Williams continued, and added that Markle is “such a fan of the sport.”

Williams and Halep both got a shoutout from the royals after the match, too:

“Well done to Serena Williams and Simona Halep on a fantastic match, and congratulations Simona on your first Wimbledon title!” Kensington Palace captioned an Instagram post featuring a gallery of the royals at the match. (Kate Middleton had taken some time to meet some junior players earlier in the day.)

It’s sweet that the two make time to be there for each other’s biggest moments—and have each other’s backs, win or lose. Watch the whole interview here:
