Ariana Grande Just Opened Up About Her "Painful, and Yet Beautiful" Year

It’s safe to say that Ariana Grande is currently at the top of her game: Her latest hit single “thank u, next” just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as the top streaming and selling song of the moment. It’s the first debut at the top of the list for a female artist since Adele released “Hello” in 2015.

But she’s also been dealing with some tough stuff emotionally since the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller—and since calling off her high-profile engagement to Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson.

As she’s been healing, Grande has opened up to fans about her pain and how she’s getting through it all. (She’s a big fan of therapy.) Recently she’s tweeted with fans about where she is emotionally and how grateful she is for them, as well as her friends and her successes. “for once i don’t really have words ?1️⃣? i love u so much and thank u,” she wrote on Monday about the Billboard debut.

“What an interesting, challenging, painful and yet beautiful and exciting chapter of life ….. when it rains it pours,” she said. “but i’m embracing all of it. i’m excited for whatever else the universe has in store for me. she’s growing n she’s grateful. ?”

She also shouts out her friends and all that they’ve done for her.

And the motivation she gets from her fans.

It’s no small thing for a celebrity with such a large platform to speak publicly about emotionally tough times and mental health—and it’s sure to have impacted at least a few fans for the better.

Pete Davidson Opened Up About His Breakup With Ariana Grande on 'SNL'

Saturday night was a big night for Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson fans. First, Grande dropped a new single titled, thank u, next that namechecks all her exes. And, at the exact same time, Davidson took to the Weekend Update news desk at SNL to address the breakup once more.

Throughout this season of SNL, Davidson has been rather vocal about his whirlwind romance with Grande. Just a few short weeks ago while making an appearance on “Weekend Update,” Davidson shared with co-hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che that the entire thing felt like a dream come true. “Do you remember when that whole city pretended that kid was Batman because he was, like, sick? That’s what this feels like.” he joked.

And earlier this week, Davidson poked a bit of fun at himself during a promo for the show. In it, Davidson turned to this week’s musical guest Maggie Rogers and asked, “Hey Maggie, I’m Pete. Do you wanna get married?” She promptly replied, “no.” Davidson huffed before adding that he was “zero for three.” (Grande didn’t exactly seem happy about this.)

Though many people might have been dreading some awkward jokes about the breakup on Saturday night’s “Weekend Update”, that’s not what happened. Instead, Davidson came on to review—and laugh at—a few candidates running for office around the country. But, just before ending his segment, Davidson took about 20 seconds to address the breakup elephant in the room.

“The last thing I will say is I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is it’s nobody’s business,” Davidson said. “Sometimes things just don’t work out, and that’s okay. She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.” Before going off screen Davidson added, “It’s a good song,” though it remains unclear if he’s talking about Grande’s latest single—dropped right as the episode aired—or her previous song, Pete Davidson.

Now, hopefully, these two — and the entire world — can start moving on with their lives.

Tracee Ellis Ross Opened the 2018 American Music Awards With an Amazing Dance Medley

Tracee Ellis Ross did such an incredible job of hosting the American Music Awards in 2017 that they asked her back for the 2018 show. And this time around, she’s pulling out all the stops. On Tuesday evening, October 9. she opened the show at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater with a high-energy dance number to a medley of hits—and Twitter was immediately obsessed.

To kick off the medley, Ross rapped along to Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow,” sporting a glamorous cape and baring her teeth to reveal a grill featuring diamonds spelling out her initials on her bottom teeth. When the music transitioned to Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” however, she threw off the cape and was immediately flanked by a squad of backup dancers. That was followed by even more hits, including Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s “APESHIT,” Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” and Beyoncé’s “Run the World.”

After her performance, Marsai Martin and Miles Brown, who play Ross’s kids onscreen in Black-ish, gave her scores of seven and three out of 10, respectively. Twitter users, however, were much more impressed. Though some called her moves cheesy or momlike—if so, she’s definitely a cool mom—pretty much everyone agreed that it was an incredible opening number. If there’s an AMA for Best AMAs Host, we know exactly who‘s getting it at the 2019 show.

Awkwafina Opened 'SNL' With a Moving Monologue About Representation in Hollywood

Awkwafina is having a history-making year: Not only did she star in Crazy Rich Asians—the first film in years with a cast of Asian descent—but on Saturday she also became just the second Asian women ever to host Saturday Night Live in the show’s 44-year history.

During her opening monologue, Awkwafina told a few great jokes about how she’s not, in fact, a “crazy rich Asian,” instead she’s a “rebuilding-my-credit Asian” who still buys her underwear in “12 packs from CVS.” As she wrapped up, however,, she took a moment to share a heartfelt story about how as a teenager she traveled to 30 Rock to stand outside as her idol, Lucy Liu, became the first Asian woman ever to host the show.

“Back in 2000, I came to 30 Rock and waited outside when my idol, Lucy Liu, hosted SNL,” she said, waiting for a quick applause break from the audience. “I was a kid, and I didn’t have a ticket so I knew I wasn’t getting in, but I just wanted to be near the building. And I remember how important that episode was for me, and how it totally changed what I thought was possible for an Asian-American woman.”

She waited out the hearty applause from the crowd before closing out her monologue and adding, “Standing here tonight is a dream I never thought would come true. So thank you, Lucy, for opening the door. I wasn’t able to make it in the building back then, but 18 years later I’m hosting the show.”

Awkwafina again addressed the issue of representation in a sketch called “#MeToo, Year Two” alongside several women on the cast. In the sketch, Awkwafina played Sandra Oh. noting that the #MeToo conversation “almost been compounded with [the one around] representation.”

McKinnon, playing her hilarious character of “legend” Debette Goldry laughed off the comment saying, “That’s not true. There were plenty of fabulous parts for Asian gals in the 1940s. And I played all of them!” Clearly, however, there’s still a long way to go.

Rose McGowan Opened Nicholas Kirwkood's Activism-Inspired Spring 2019 Fashion Show

Since the #MeToo movement received an increased spotlight in light of allegations against various powerful figures in Hollywood, various other industries have continued to reckon with how sexual harassment and assault is addressed within their communities. In fashion, it’s become an increasingly pressing topic of conversation and reform, with many using the global platform that is Fashion Week to bring attention to the issue. Nicholas Kirkwood is the latest designer to use the runway to make a statement, and he recruited Rose McGowan to get the message across.

Part fashion show, part theater production, Kirkwood’s Spring 2019 presentation was meant to touch on themes of resistance, dystopia, hacking, and cyber-reality, The Guardian reports. The British footwear designer met with McGowan, who has emerged as one of the leading voices of the #MeToo movement post-Harvey Weinstein, over the summer to collaborate on this project.

This is Kirkwood’s first-ever London Fashion Week show, and McGowan’s first time on the runway. The designer teased his “Hacking and Activism” show—and McGowan appearance—on social media in the days leading up to it releasing a trailer meant to parody “fake news.”

Kirkwood’s Spring 2019 runway was set at the so-called Bureau of Conformity, per Footwear News, meant to represent a cyber-hacker’s headquarters. In the show notes, the designer explained: “This is a subculture whose environment remains relatively unexplored from a fashion standpoint, despite their current cultural influence and how much intrigue there is around them.”

McGowan opened the show, and was followed by a mix of professional models (including Winnie Harlow) and real-life hackers, like the 18-year-old “white hat” CyFi.

Backstage, McGowan reflected on how the #MeToo movement has evolved, and where it still needs to go. “We are a lot further along than where we were, but we are still on a razor’s edge,” McGowan told The Guardian. “We have to start a new conversation… To everyone else, it seemed like it happened so fast, but for me it’s been very slow. It’s been a long haul. I’m really gratified that people are questioning what is acceptable, but it’s been a hell of a year.”

Kendall Jenner Just Opened Up About Her Friend Hailey Baldwin's Engagement

Kendall Jenner is in New York this week and paid an obligatory visit to The Tonight Show for a breezy chat with Jimmy Fallon. The duo chatted about everything from Jenner’s lifelong love of horses to her new gig as the ambassador of Longchamp. After Fallon was done hitting all of his talking points, the chat transitioned to Hailey Baldwin, who just happens to be one of Jenner’s closest friends. And, apparently, Fallon (like us) has been dying to know Jenner’s take on her bestie’s recent engagement to Justin Bieber.

Fallon eventually asked Jenner what she thought of her friend’s major milestone. “Are you happy [Hailey] and Justin Bieber are engaged? I think it’s perfect. They’re so in love,” Fallon said. Jenner, in turn, replied, “Yeah, whatever makes them happy, I’m happy. I’ve been friends with both of them for a very long time. So everybody’s happy, and that makes me happy.”

Well, that’s sweet of her to say. Could she be angling for a gig as one of Baldwin’s bridesmaids? Considering how close they’ve been over the years, we’re going to go ahead and assume that Jenner already had it in the bag. After all, these two buddies have been through a lot together — everything from double dates (in Baldwin’s pre-engagement days) to nights out at basketball games to getting matching finger tattoos of broken hearts. True friendship, my friends!
