Charli XCX Had an Iconic Response to Her Tampon String Showing Onstage

Music fans know that Charli XCX’s performances are a glittery, high-energy, all-inclusive party. But on Friday night, a surprise guest on her Austin, Texas, tour stop took her show in a down-to-earth (and hilarious) new direction.

In a video posted to her Instagram account, Charli XCX gave a shout-out to — wait for it — her tampon string, which had come out of her costume during her performance. “My tampon string is out tonight,” she said onstage as the crowd started screaming in delight. “Last night I was like, I thought it came out, but tonight, it came out, Austin.”

Instead of treating the episode like a wardrobe malfunction, Charli owned her tampon’s surprise appearance.”MY TAMPON STRING STOLE
THE SHOW,” she captioned her social media video. “HER STAGE PRESENCE IS ICONIC TBH. ??”

Her fans laughed with her in the comments. “Iconic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tampon commander of collabs,” one person wrote.

It’s not that surprising that Charli XCX would turn her tampon string’s cameo into an Internet moment. The singer has a refreshingly carefree attitude — her first hit was literally called “I Don’t Care, I Love It” — and when it comes to her onstage raves, everyone’s invited (including the odd feminine hygiene product).

In an interview with Glamour earlier this year, Charli said that her fans are the type that let her be totally honest onstage. “[My fans] really care about me, and I really care about them. We’re speaking the same language, and maybe nobody else gets that language, but we totally understand. I just feel my music is now a safe space for me to be really honest. I don’t feel afraid.”

So if you take anything away from Charli XCX’s tampon debacle, let it be this: There’s no shame in letting it all hang out. And if you’re not following Charli XCX’s on Instagram, you’re really missing out.

Brie Larson Brought Her ‘Captain Marvel’ Stunt Doubles Onstage During the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Captain Marvel broke all kinds of records when it hit theaters in March 2019. It raked in $455 million its opening weekend, it was created by a team of powerful women, and it introduced audiences to a new kind of female superhero. Brie Larson, the star of the film, got tons of recognition for her work in such a badass production; however, when she was given the Best Fight trophy at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Monday, she made it clear there were some unsung heroes who needed serious credit. So she went onstage to accept the award alongside her stunt doubles Renae Moneymaker and Joanna Bennett.

Larson made sure the spotlight was on Moneymaker and Bennett, who both worked intensely by her side on Captain Marvel. Stunt doubles often fly under the radar in action films, and they don’t always get recognized for their dedication. Larson wanted to change that, so the Oscar winner and new director completely turned the attention to her friends and colleagues.

“I wanted to take this moment to really say thank you to the two women who are standing here beside me,” Larson said. “These are the women that trained me and were also the stunt doubles for Captain Marvel. I could not have made this film without them. They are really the baseline of who she is. They are the living embodiment of Captain Marvel.”

After introducing them, Larson cheered, “Say whatever you want!” and turned the mic over to the two professionals, who have also been stunt doubles on Wonder Woman, Avengers: Endgame, and X-Men, to name a few. Bennett talked about how exciting it was to bring a strong female character to life, while Moneymaker recalled the female characters who had influenced her own career.

“As young girls, we wanted to be just like Lara Croft and G.I. Jane, so it’s a real honor to be a part of this character and hopefully pass along some of that inspiration and strength that those iconic women brought to us,” she said. “And lastly, a big thank you to Brie for acknowledging our role in this film. It’s truly a rare acknowledgement, and it means so much not only to both of us, but to the entire stunt community.”

Watch Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Reunite Onstage to Perform 'Shallow'

Bradley Cooper was probably pretty bummed earlier this week when the Oscar nominations were announced and his name was not on the list of those contending for Best Director. Frankly, I’m not sure what the Academy was thinking because, to me, A Star Is Born is pretty darn perfect. (He did pick up nominations in the acting and screenplay categories, so that does help.)

But over the weekend, Cooper received what many might call an even greater honor: He performed live with his ASIB co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Lady Gaga at her Las Vegas show, Enigma. Gaga brought Cooper onstage to perform their mega-hit “Shallow,” and the crowd obviously went nuts over seeing Jackson and Ally Maine reunited on stage once again.

While I might personally have been disappointed that Cooper wasn’t hiding long, greasy Jackson hair under his baseball cap, he seemed pretty comfortable on stage save a few sound glitches. Ever the pro, Gaga said, “I even got you in-ears,” referring to the monitors that many performers wear during live performances to hear the music. Cooper couldn’t hear anything at first, but once the sound crew got things sorted, he launched into those famous first lyrics, “Tell me something, girl…” and I was instantly transported back to the fictional love story of Jackson and Ally. He certainly hasn’t lost his voice since they finished the film, and Gaga, of course, sounds incredible. Cooper even busted out some vintage Jackson Maine guitar moves as Gaga moved into that iconic “Shallow” wail.

Honestly, I got chills and maybe a little misty-eyed. The chemistry is so real, y’all. Watch for yourselves below and try not to cry.

Here’s hoping these two hit the stage together again at the Oscars on February 24—”Shallow” is nominated for Best Song, after all.

Taylor Swift Had the Best Reaction to Her Onstage Set Malfunction

Taylor Swift is known for going all out on her stadium tours: insanely coordinated backup dancers, lighting effects, grandiose sets, and multiple costume changes.

Much was the same on Saturday night’s stop of her Reputation tour. Unfortunately, the night hit a little snag when, while singing “Delicate,” ascended to the stadium skies in a big sparkly basket…that promptly got stuck. Luckily, the singer is a bit of a pro at shaking it off (sorry), and played it very cool while the situation was sorted out.

Fans awaiting the moment during which T.Swift would float out into the audience to gaze upon her Swifties caught the incident on video. “I’m pretty sure I’m stuck up here,” the singer says at one point over the song’s backing vocals. “It’s a nice view though.”

She also runs through quite a few facial expressions upon realizing the predicament she was in.

Of course, tech was doing the most to get Swift back on the ground. To do that, however, they had to communicate with the stuck singer, which meant that the whole audience got to tune in.

“So basically, I’m just chillin’ waiting to figure out what happens next,” she says, having successfully arrived back on firm ground—but she quickly needed to get over to B stage.

So, everyone got a special a capella performance of “Our Song,” thanks to some help from the audience.

For the record, it was meant to look something like this:

To be honest, Swift did handle it like a pro. It’s safe to say that if we ever found ourselves suspended dozens of feet in the air in a sparkly swinging basket, we might not handle it as well.

Beyoncé Handled an On-Stage Malfunction at Her Concert This Weekend Like a Boss

Beyoncé has a history of handling on-stage mishaps like a pro. When she took a bit of a tumble with her sister, Solange, at Coachella this year, Bey just giggled and incorporated it into her choreography. Or remember when she fixed her own hair fan after a stagehand missed their beat? Beyoncé always keeps her poker face on. That’s why she’s Beyoncé.

And what happened over the weekend during an On the Run II tour stop in Poland is no exception to this. As ET reports, toward the end of Bey’s Warsaw concert with Jay Z on June 30, a flying stage started malfunctioning during their performance of “Young Forever,” leaving Bey stranded. The crew had to bring over a ladder and convince her to climb down in her thigh-high heeled boots.

Although the situation certainly looked scary, Beyoncé took it in stride, blowing kisses and dancing while fans cheered her on and chanted her name, fan videos show. After what looks like some deliberation, she ended up climbing down the ladder and heading offstage.

Saturday’s Warsaw concert was the 11th out of 18 planned stops on the European leg of the superstar couple’s On the Run II tour. On Tuesday, according to Ticketmaster, Bey and Jay are headed to Köln, Germany, and they’ll wrap up their Europe performances in Nice, France, on July 17, before beginning the North American part of the tour in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 25.

Over the course of the tour, Beyoncé has kept fans updated with pics and clips on Instagram. Along with a picture of her and Jay-Z in matching outfits onstage during their inaugural OTR II concert in Cardiff, Wales, she also uploaded a video of the massive crowd in Glasgow, Scotland, and several photos of the lacy pink outfit she wore on the plane ride there.
