Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk Split After Four Years Together

This just in: Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have broken up after four years together, People confirms. The actor, 44, and model, 33, are now reportedly “amicably working out how to share custody” of their daughter, Lea De Seine, who they welcomed in March 2017.

A source told E! News that they’ve been “questioning” their relationship for a while. “They want to stay together for their daughter,” the source continued, “but neither of them are very happy.”

No further details about why Cooper and Shayk split have been given, though rumors of their relationship issues have been circulating since Oscar season. At the time, the stories seemed like they might just be wild conjecture—considering a lot of it was based on people simply thinking he had better chemistry with his A Star Is Born costar Lady Gaga. But I guess the saying “where there’s smoke there’s fire” exists for a reason, huh?

And earlier today, June 6, Shayk was seen leaving the Los Angeles airport wearing a very chic breakup jumpsuit and a big smile. One thing that was noticeably absent: the emerald many thought was an engagement ring. (Take a look, below.)

Lady Gaga Is Finally Speaking Out About That Oscars Performance With Bradley Cooper

You know an Oscars performance for Best Song is note-worthy when we’re all still talking about it many days later. But, just in case you missed it, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper gave an intimate performance of their hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, and the Internet collectively lost its mind with rampant speculation about whether the two were more than just friends and co-stars. It was an incredible live moment filled with chemistry, yes, but the response was more than a little problematic.

Now, Lady Gaga is finally speaking out about the rumors of their supposed affair during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“Social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the Internet,” she told Jimmy Kimmel of the commentary, while offering up an eye roll to end all eye rolls. “And what it has done to pop culture is just, like, abysmal.” So far, we’re detecting no lies here.

Handout

“Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” Gaga continued. She added that while she’s not usually one to relinquish control of her live performance vibe, she let Cooper direct the entire thing, down to the lighting. “[Shallow] is a love song, A Star Is Born is a love story,” she explained. “It was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time…. When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel.”

Gaga noted that she’s been doing lovey duets with her “arms wrapped around Tony Bennett” for years and hasn’t been confronted with the same rumors and innuendo. So, yeah, we can all just shut down those Gaga/Cooper ‘ship rumors right now. Mostly, she’s just really proud of her friend for getting up there and singing live in front of the world.

“My favorite thing about the whole experience was I was just so excited for people, not only at home, but our peers in the room to see him sing live and know that he sang every take live in this movie every single time,” she said. “I mean, all of it. There’s no lip synching.” And because Gaga is the best sport, she even reenacted that now-iconic head tilt with Kimmel.

Now that Lady Gaga has finally set the record straight, it’s probably time for us all to let the old ways (of conjuring a relationship between two costars) die.

Lady Gaga Calls Bradley Cooper a ‘True Friend’ After Their Viral Oscars Performance

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s performance of “Shallow” at the 2019 Oscars currently has the Internet buzzing. It was a gorgeous rendition, yes, but people seem more interested in what’s going on between Cooper and Gaga offstage. The speculation that these two are more than friends is out of control—and problematic. As we pointed out yesterday, Gaga and Cooper were tasked with developing enough chemistry to sell A Star Is Born, so of course their performance at the Oscars had sparks. They’re actors.

Neither of them has directly addressed these rumors, but Gaga did call Cooper a “true friend” on Twitter late Monday night, February 25. “Nothing could be more special than sharing this moment at the Oscars with a true friend and artistic genius,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself and Cooper singing at the Oscars. Take a look at the message for yourself, below:

And here’s the pic she used of the performance:

Lady Gaga and her “Shallow” cowriters Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt won the Oscar for Best Original Song. In her emotional speech, Gaga thanked her sister and Cooper before opening up about her own showbiz journey. “I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning. It’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion,” she said. “And it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”

In the Oscars press room, Gaga revealed what Cooper said to her right before they hit the stage to sing “Shallow.” “One of the hardest things in life is to be brave enough to be yourself. I wish to everyone that is going to that celebration to feel a joy inside of them,” Gaga said, recalling Cooper’s words. “That’s actually what Bradley said to me yesterday, right before we did our last rehearsal for this performance of ‘Shallow,’ He said, ‘Let’s just drop a little bit of joy.’ And I said, ‘OK.’ And turns out, joy did a whole lot for me.”

The Problem With Everyone Thirsting Over Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

If you didn’t watch the Oscars last night and only tuned into the top headlines, you’d think Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper made out on top of a piano while his girlfriend and the mother of his child, Irina Shayk, looked on—and then everyone went home and called it a night.

Literally as I write this, the Today show is breathlessly declaring “Gaga & Bradley steal the show” as tweets about their, let’s say, intimate “Shallow” performance scroll across the screen. That’s tame compared with what’s happening in my news feed, where the language becomes increasingly sexual. “Everyone was horny” for Gaga and Cooper’s performance, according to one overly excited headline, while another says people are “shipping” the costars. Several writers described feeling “pregnant” after watching their duet. Over on Twitter the speculation and (admittedly hilarious) memes are loud and persistent:

The (unproven) narrative circling the Internet right now is essentially this: Lady Gaga split from her fiancé because she and Bradley Cooper are maybe-definitely in love, and everyone’s extremely into it. They “seem like a couple” at Oscars parties. Their chemistry is “undeniable.” Fans on Twitter are actively rooting for them to get together.

It gets even weirder once you add Shayk to the picture. I saw the same outlet describe Cooper and Shayk’s Oscars red-carpet PDA as “picture perfect” while simultaneously going off the deep end (pun intended) into Gaga and Cooper’s supposed affair. A “jealous” Shayk sat between the two all night, never mind that’s just how the Oscars seating chart works. And after Shayk gave her boyfriend and Gaga a standing ovation following their performance, people praised her—as if Shayk, at best, proved she’s above the rumors and, at worse, is completely clueless.

With all the noise, it’s hard to determine what the truth is. Did Gaga and Cooper’s performance feel incredibly intimate? Yes, I have eyes. Do they clearly have a close connection? Of course, though I think it’s important to remember that these two had to build a believable chemistry to sell A Star Is Born tickets. On the flip side, did Cooper and Shayk look happy together on the Oscars red carpet? Yup, and she was by his—and Gaga’s—side all night, looking ostensibly happy and not at all uncomfortable, annoyed, or awkward.

Kevin Winter

We don’t know what’s really going on with these three—but what I do find interesting is the wide-spread support for Gaga and Cooper to be together. It’s striking to me because society normally loves to hate on the other woman, especially if she is viewed as “taking” the man away from the mother of his child. People are still not over Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s affair. When they divorced in 2016, tabloids circled like hawks to shout that Jolie was discovering what goes around comes around. The New York Post‘s front page that week was a picture of Aniston laughing, a full-circle moment for Team Jen.

And look what’s been happening recently to Jordyn Woods: Her removal from the Kardashian’s inner circle after reportedly hooking up with Tristan Thompson, father to Khloé Kardashian’s daughter and a brother-in-law of sorts to Woods’ best friend Kylie Jenner, has been treated as a joke. Something she completely deserved because of her actions. Khloé, meanwhile, has become the new Jen Aniston—even The Bachelorette was hoping to cast her as the next lead. People cheer that Woods’ life and career are over, but root for Cooper to end his relationship and be with Gaga? Because what, they look hot cuddling next to each other at a piano?

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Perform 'Shallow' at the Oscars 2019

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper took the stage at the 2019 Oscars on Sunday night, February 24, to perform their hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born—and they didn’t disappoint. The powerful tune, which took home the Oscar for Best Original Song, became an instant hit last fall, reaching the the top five on Billboard‘s Hot 100. It’s without a doubt a standout track in A Star Is Born—and that’s saying something, given the sheer amount of great music moments in the movie.

Tonight’s performance was another incredible moment. Gaga and Cooper kept this performance of “Shallow” simple. They let their incredible vocals do the talking, with Gaga adding some dramatic accents on the piano. The “AHHHAHHHAHHHAH” is still so killer.

Check out the performance for yourself, below:

Twitter is, obviously, living for Gaga and Cooper’s sweet rendition:

“Shallow” has had quite the awards season run, winning multiple Grammys as well as the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. During her one of her acceptance speeches for “Shallow” at the Grammys, Lady Gaga made an important statement about mental health.

“I’m so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues,” she said. “They’re so important. And a lot of artists deal with that, and we’ve got to take care of each other. So if you see somebody that’s hurting, don’t look away. And if you’re hurting, even though it might be hard, try to find that bravery within yourself to dive deep and go tell somebody and take them up in your head with you.”

Several celebrities have covered “Shallow” since A Star Is Born came out in October, including Kate Hudson, Nick Jonas, and, most notably, Kelly Clarkson. Her rendition of the song basically broke the Internet two weeks ago. “This chick is amazing,” Clarkson said about Gaga before performing her cover. “We’re really different, but at the same time, we’re really similar in the fact that she just loves music, and that’s why she’s doing what she’s doing.”

Last week, news broke Gaga and talent agent Christian Carino broke up after two years of dating—and just a few months after announcing their engagement. “It just didn’t work out. Relationships sometimes end,” a representative for Gaga told People magazine. “There’s no long, dramatic story.”

Watch Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Reunite Onstage to Perform 'Shallow'

Bradley Cooper was probably pretty bummed earlier this week when the Oscar nominations were announced and his name was not on the list of those contending for Best Director. Frankly, I’m not sure what the Academy was thinking because, to me, A Star Is Born is pretty darn perfect. (He did pick up nominations in the acting and screenplay categories, so that does help.)

But over the weekend, Cooper received what many might call an even greater honor: He performed live with his ASIB co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Lady Gaga at her Las Vegas show, Enigma. Gaga brought Cooper onstage to perform their mega-hit “Shallow,” and the crowd obviously went nuts over seeing Jackson and Ally Maine reunited on stage once again.

While I might personally have been disappointed that Cooper wasn’t hiding long, greasy Jackson hair under his baseball cap, he seemed pretty comfortable on stage save a few sound glitches. Ever the pro, Gaga said, “I even got you in-ears,” referring to the monitors that many performers wear during live performances to hear the music. Cooper couldn’t hear anything at first, but once the sound crew got things sorted, he launched into those famous first lyrics, “Tell me something, girl…” and I was instantly transported back to the fictional love story of Jackson and Ally. He certainly hasn’t lost his voice since they finished the film, and Gaga, of course, sounds incredible. Cooper even busted out some vintage Jackson Maine guitar moves as Gaga moved into that iconic “Shallow” wail.

Honestly, I got chills and maybe a little misty-eyed. The chemistry is so real, y’all. Watch for yourselves below and try not to cry.

Here’s hoping these two hit the stage together again at the Oscars on February 24—”Shallow” is nominated for Best Song, after all.
