People Think Miley Cyrus's New Music Video Is Filled With Nods to Liam Hemsworth

While Taylor Swift remains the indisputable queen of putting Easter eggs in music videos—I mean, have you seen the one for Lover?—it seems Miley Cyrus is taking a page out of Swift’s book, releasing a music video that fans think is chock full of nods to her relationship and subsequent breakup with Liam Hemsworth.

On Friday, September 7, Cyrus dropped the hotly-anticipated music video for her new single “Slide Away.” We’ve all agreed the song was undoubtedly a breakup anthem following her divorce from her husband of less than a year. Lyrics like, “So won’t you slide away. Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights” and “Move on, we’re not 17” seem to be nods to Hemsworth’s home of Australia and how they met and fell in love when she was 17. (RIP The Last Song.)

As if that wasn’t enough for fans, the music video contains a lot of things that could point to their relationship. In the video, a bored and unimpressed Cyrus wanders through a house as a raucous party unfolds around her. The premise itself is a clear parallel to one of her most famous videos, “We Can’t Stop,” in which the singer throws a wild house party and happily indulges in the partying. Now, as she sings lyrics like, “I want my house in the hills / Don’t want the whiskey and pills” and “I’m not who I used to be” fans can see how much she—and presumably her relationship with Hemsworth—has changed since then. Many fans also assumed the partying and shots of empty liquor and pill bottles could be a reference to Hemsworth’s alleged drug use. (Hemsworth’s reps denied those rumors.)

Eventually in the video, Cyrus heads into the pool, alone, and seems to find peace floating in the water. My interpretation: This is Cyrus letting her fans know she’s found happiness post-breakup—potentially with her rumored new girlfriend, Kaitlynn Carter.

(Can we also take a moment here to also recognize how amazing Cyrus looks in this video? She can truly pull off the wet-hair-don’t-care look, not to mention that chain metal dress that’s giving us serious Kendall Jenner/Paris Hilton 21st birthday dress vibes. And don’t even get me started on that glittery gold eyeshadow that looks straight out of Euphoria.)

Camila Cabello Just Teased New Music Fans Think Is Inspired by Shawn Mendes

Camila Cabello released a new video titled “What Do I Know About Love?” on Saturday, August 31, in which she delivers a moving and deeply poetic speech about the nature of love and what it means to her. The cryptic video led fans to believe new music is on the way—and that Shawn Mendes is the inspiration behind her new album.

“Where does the love go when it runs out? When does it leave? Why does it die,” she asks in the beginning of the clip. “Do you kill it in one violent blow? Or is it a million unattended, unhealed little cuts and scratches?”

Seconds later, Cabello says, “What do I know about love? Everything. It will bring you to your knees—if you did it right. What I know for sure about love is that you never come out of it the same.”

The “Havana” singer, who has been teasing that her second solo album will be inspired by her life and experiences, then goes on to describe what, for her, it feels to be in love with someone.

“I know when you fall in love, you feel like you’re the first and only two people in the world,” Cabello continues. “Every kiss, every touch, every caress is like something you feel nobody has ever felt before. And you think, has everybody that’s ever fallen in love before just walked around this nonchalantly the whole time?”

“What I know for sure is falling in love with life itself makes an artist out of everyone,” she adds. “I thought I was making art before. Writing songs was me making art, but now I want my life to be the work of art and my songwriting to be the camera that I take a picture of it with. It’s what I’m living. That’s the art.”

Cabello’s cryptic video comes after the end of her two-year relationship with ex Matthew Hussey and amid a rumored romance with Mendes. Following the breakup and the release of their music video for”Señorita,” she and the Canadian singer have been spotting kissing and holding hands in public on multiple occasions. The two also delivered a steamy performance during the 2019 MTV VMAs just last week.

Despite spending all summer together, Cabello and Mendes have yet to confirm their relationship. This hasn’t stopped fans from coming up with their own conclusions about what this cryptic video means, though.

All the Easter Eggs in Taylor Swift's 'Lover' Music Video

Taylor Swift‘s Lover album is finally here. But last night, ahead of its release, she dropped the video for the title track.

Of course, this means that her fans jumped into deep analysis mode as they took in each frame, found so many hidden Easter eggs, and developed some theories. In the video, we see a little girl at Christmas time opening her presents. One of them is a snow globe, and soon we’re taken into the house inside the globe where Swift and her “lover” reside. We see the couple laughing, loving, dancing, fighting, throwing parties, and diving into a fish bowl together. You know, living their lives.

At the end, the camera pans out to show that the little girl is their daughter—a very sweet touch that I must admit choked me up a little bit.

Watch the video for yourself, below, and then let’s break down what it all means.

The house.

The home inside the snow globe has seven rooms, which fans think represent Swift’s seven albums.

One fan also noted that the rooms are lit in color while the outside is dark, seemingly a reference to the lyrics in “Out of the Woods” from 1989: “The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color.”

Another thought it was a reference to the dollhouse in 13 Going on 30.

The cat.

Taylor Swift Says She's Re-Recording All Her Old Music in Light of the Scooter Braun Drama

In late June, news broke that Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, had acquired Taylor Swift’s back catalog of music as part of his purchase of Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group. (Big Machine was Swift’s old label.) Pretty much everyone, from Halsey to Todrick Hall to Justin Bieber, had something to say about the situation, and voices on social media (including Kelly Clarkson) even urged her to consider the biggest power move possible: re-recording her entire catalogue.

And it turns out that’s exactly what Swift has decided to do. A short transcript from her recent appearance on CBS Sunday Morning reveals that the pop star is planning to head back to the studio and create brand new masters of all the songs that Braun now owns. Here’s exactly what she said when correspondent Tracy Smith asked her if she was going to re-record everything.

“Might you do that?” Smith asks.

“Oh yeah,” Swift says.

“That’s a plan?” Smith asks.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Swift answers.

As a recap, the whole drama started when Big Machine Records—the Scott Borchetta-owned label that Swift was on for a bulk of her career—was acquired by Braun’s company, Ithaca Holdings. In a Tumblr post, Swift insisted that she didn’t know about the sale until it was announced and that she wasn’t given the chance to buy her music. She also expressed her frustration that the songs she’d worked so hard on were now owned by someone she says had subjected her to “incessant, manipulative bullying.”

“When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter,” she wrote. “Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.”

It’s unclear when Taylor Swift is going to start this project, but it’s going to be a huge undertaking. It comes right as her seventh studio album, Lover, is scheduled to drop on August 23. The full CBS interview will be out on August 25.

Watch Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello Rehearse their Steamy "Señorita" Music Video

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have been steaming up the summer with their chart-topping duet, “Señorita,” not to mention the smoldering video that goes with. The pair has also been sparking romance rumors as they’ve been spotted together doing everything from sipping coffee to kissing. Camila even professed her love for Shawn to celebrate his 21st birthday, calling him a “magic human.”

If you can’t stop shipping this super-talented couple, you’re in luck: As noted by Entertainment Tonight, Shawn released a three-minute clip of rehearsal videos from the filming of “Señorita,” and is it hot in here or is it just their chemistry?

In the video, we see the musicians stretching it out during warmup and rehearsing their choreography, which includes Shawn gracefully lifting Camila. The cutest part? The short but sweet moment of the pair playing patty-cake together during their downtime. The footage is pretty simple, but it’s totally adorable nonetheless.

Whether or not the two are actually in the midst of a summer romance, these behind-the-scenes clips at least show that Shawn and Camila are very good friends who are very comfortable with each other. After all, they’ve had plenty of shared history, and the two go way back.

It’s certainly been a busy summer for Shawn and Camila. They’ve been spotted together many times as Shawn travels the U.S. on tour. Romance rumors first began during the 4th of July holiday, when the singers were seen holding hands. They attended a Blink-182 concert in late July and shared a kiss during Shawn’s birthday celebration in New York City.

Of course, we haven’t heard anything official from Shawn or Camila themselves, so until we do, this is all just ~speculation~ over the state of their relationship. But that doesn’t mean we can’t watch this super-steamy video on repeat, which is definitely what we’ll be doing for the rest of the summer.

Taylor Swift Says She Didn't Really See Sexism in the Music Industry Until Red's Success

We’re just a couple weeks away from the release of Taylor Swift‘s latest album, Lover, on August 23. And in the lead-up to its release, we’re learning more and more about where Swift is at in her life—through Easter eggs left in her videos and commercials and in interviews, like her latest one for Vogue. (She graces the cover of the magazine’s September issue.)

In the interview, Swift opens up about various aspects of her career, including the shift she saw once she transitioned from a rising star in the industry to a powerful woman. When asked if she was always aware of sexism around her, Swift gives this thoughtful answer: “When I was a teenager, I would hear people talk about sexism in the music industry, and I’d be like, I don’t see it. I don’t understand,” she tells Vogue. “Then I realized that was because I was a kid. Men in the industry saw me as a kid. I was a lanky, scrawny, overexcited young girl who reminded them more of their little niece or their daughter than a successful woman in business or a colleague. The second I became a woman, in people’s perception, was when I started seeing it.”

“It’s fine to infantilize a girl’s success and say, How cute that she’s having some hit songs,” she continues. “How cute that she’s writing songs. But the second it becomes formidable? As soon as I started playing stadiums—when I started to look like a woman—that wasn’t as cool anymore. It was when I started to have songs from Red come out and cross over, like ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.’”

In the interview, she also reveals a moment where she realized she wanted to be more vocal about her stance on LGBTQ+ issues. Swift describes driving in a car with her friend and collaborator, Todrick Hall, when he asked her what she would do if her son was gay. “The fact that he had to ask me…shocked me and made me realize that I had not made my position clear enough or loud enough,” she says. “If my son was gay, he’d be gay. I don’t understand the question.

“If he was thinking that, I can’t imagine what my fans in the LGBTQ community might be thinking,” she continued. “It was kind of devastating to realize that I hadn’t been publicly clear about that.” Since then, she has spoken out publicly against certain political candidates and stood up for the Equality Act, along with more overt lyrics (and cameos) in her latest singles in support of the community, as well as a surprise appearance at the Stonewall Inn during Pride.

Swift explains why she wasn’t more vocal sooner, too. “Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male,” she says. “I didn’t realize until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part of. It’s hard to know how to do that without being so fearful of making a mistake that you just freeze. Because my mistakes are very loud. When I make a mistake, it echoes through the canyons of the world. It’s clickbait, and it’s a part of my life story, and it’s a part of my career arc.”
