Lili Reinhart Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumors: 'My Body Is Something I Will Never Apologize For'

Lili Reinhart‘s had to deal with inquiries about her personal life for quite some time now. Ever since rumors erupted last summer that she’s dating her Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse, Reinhart’s been living her life in a metaphorical fishbowl of sorts. Still, the actress has frequently shut down the idea that fans are entitled to information about her personal life. “It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote on Tumblr back in October.

Now, she’s addressing a different—and more offensive—type of scrutiny. Over the weekend, a photo surfaced of Reinhart that led many fans to think she’s pregnant. Below, just a few of the tweets from her followers:

Something similar happened to Today host Savannah Guthrie last week, when people online started debating her body and wondering whether or not she’s expecting. It’s a phenomenon that predominantly happens to female celebrities—and it’s not OK. Reinhart took to Instagram Stories on Monday (May 28) to say just that—and to confirm that, no, she isn’t pregnant.

“It’s unfortunate that one unflattering photo of my stomach circulating the Internet causes hundreds of people to think that I’m pregnant,” she wrote. “Nope. Not pregnant. This is just my body. And sometimes I’m bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo is taken of me. Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight.”

Reinhart continued, “My body is something that I will NEVER apologize for. My body will constantly go through change. And so will yours. And that’s fine. So let’s not much so much time and effort into caring about a stranger’s figure.”

Reinhart’s series of posts inspired her co-star Camila Mendes to open up on Instagram about her own body struggles. “I feel bloated 24/7. My weight fluctuates constantly, it comes with being a woman and should be celebrated, not criticized,” Mendes wrote. “I used to fear the day that people would start publicly criticizing my body and commenting on my weight. I’ve suffered too much from my own self-criticism, and wasn’t sure that I could handle it from others. But seeing somebody as beautiful as Lili respond to public scrutiny by preaching and practicing self-love is all it takes for me to overcome that fear. Proud to call her my friend. Let’s continue inspiring women to love their bodies.

Well said. These Twitter users’ time would be better spent catching up on the bonkers second season of Riverdale.

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse Just Showed Some PDA on the Beach

Here’s a list of things that will happen before Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse talk about their relationship: every ocean in the world will turn bright pink; cheese fries will miraculously become calorie-free; and Adam Sandler will release a good movie. The Riverdale stars have been so mum about their off-screen relationship that it’s driving fans bonkers. For months, they’ve been searching for anything—literally anything—that hints at Sprouse and Reinhart being a couple. When a fan caught them secretly holding hands during a Comic-Con interview in July 2017, the Internet flipped. And the actors low-key embraced on the cover of Entertainment Weekly last year, too. Save for these vague instances, though, there’s been nothing.

But a picture might be worth a thousand words. Paparazzi caught Reinhart and Sprouse looking very couple-y on the beach in Hawaii earlier this week, which corroborates reports that they spent New Year’s Eve together. Clad in some skin-bearing bathing suits, the twosome wrapped their arms around each other while strolling by the ocean. They didn’t seem to notice the photographers tailing them, either—well, that, or they didn’t care.

Check out the pic below:

So what does this mean? Are Reinhart and Sprouse dating or not? These photos certainly move the needle toward yes; however, nothing’s official until one of them says something—not that they have to. Reinhart and Sprouse are entitled to keeping their relationship as public or private as they want. In fact, these photos indicate that perhaps Reinhart and Sprouse know what the world thinks about them, and they just don’t care. They’re going to live their lives regardless, without answering to anyone. And that’s pretty amazing.

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are Vacationing Together in Hawaii Right Now

Lili Reinhart has been posting up a storm about her gorgeous New Year’s Eve vacation in Hawaii. “Everywhere in Hawaii is a real life Windows desktop,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a stunning island photo. “I’m a basic bitch, and I’m never leaving Hawaii,” she also posted on Instagram Stories earlier while nestling a delicious-looking fruity beverage. The trip looks picturesque, to say the least—a perfect place to get some R&R before returning to frigid Vancouver for Riverdale filming.

But it turns out Reinhart isn’t alone on her trip. Reports surfaced a few days ago that Cole Sprouse, Reinhart’s Riverdale co-star and maybe-probably boyfriend, was on vacation with her—and now these fan photos prove it. Yes, “Bughead” shippers, Sprouse and Reinhart spent New Year’s Eve together, and it looks like they had a blast.

Check out this Snapchat, below, in which a fan gawks at Reinhart and Sprouse, who are casually sitting outside a restaurant.

And here’s a slew of selfies the twosome took with fans while on the island.

Finally, a sweet shot of Reinhart and Sprouse posing with a fan in front of some stunning Hawaiian scenery.

Of course, there’s always the possibility Reinhart and Sprouse aren’t actually dating and this was just a platonic friends’ getaway. Unfortunately, it looks like neither of them will tell us one way or the other because both have remained pretty tight-lipped about their relationship. In fact, Reinhart went on a mini Tumblr rant a few months back about how she’s over people “shipping” her and her co-stars.

“It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote. “If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety…please reevaluate your priorities.”

Oh well, at least we have these cute photos to keep us warm.

Lili Reinhart on Season Two of 'Riverdale': There's Challenging Times Ahead for Betty Cooper

Riverdale‘s mid-season finale left more questions than answers, especially now that we know Svenson may not be the Black Hood after all. Lili Reinhart told us the situation is far from being resolved, and she has every reason to believe the murderer is still at large. “Things don’t feel right…like, there’s still some deep, dark, unspoken mystery going on,” she explains.

And if the Black Hood mystery isn’t enough to deal with, there’s plenty of other drama brewing in Riverdale. Betty and Jughead—and Archie and Veronica—are still in relationship limbo, Josie has a stalker, Cheryl’s obsessed, and who knows what’s up with the Lodges. There’s also the upcoming birth of Polly’s baby and the arrival of Betty’s brother, Chic.

When the show returns on January 17, the good news is that there won’t be much of a time jump. “It’s just after Christmas break,” Reinhart says. “It’s not two months or anything like that. It’s just two weeks [that have passed].” The arrival of Betty’s brother will also bring the topic of Betty’s mental health back into conversation. “You definitely see that a lot more in the second half of the season,” Reinhart says. “When Betty digs her nails into her hands, it’s kind of when things are happening with her family. That’s her trigger, whether it be her mother, her brother, or Polly. I think that’s something to keep in mind.” Also, with the introduction of her brother, “she’s very curious to see if he has that darkness inside him as well. There might be some sister/brother bonding over mental health issues.”

That darkness isn’t just internal, either. Reinhart doesn’t say whether Betty will don her black wig again, but her makeup does get little darker and her overall look will be “a little more made up.”

And if Betty didn’t have enough going on in her life, it looks like her friendship with Veronica will also be put in jeopardy. “I think that concept is challenged in the second half,” she says. While one would think it’s because Veronica might find out that Archie and Betty kissed, Reinhart indicates that it goes way beyond that. “Not to give too much away, but I think there is definitely challenges to come in Betty and Veronica’s friendship, and it’s a result of their parents, to be honest,” she says. “It’s like, how do they navigate their friendship with the parents that they have? And if their parents are at war, does that mean the kids are at war? That becomes very, very heavy in the latter half. The concept of Betty and Veronica putting each other first does become challenged.”

Even Lili Reinhart Thinks the Black Hood Mystery Isn't Totally Solved Yet on 'Riverdale'

Tonight’s Riverdale‘s mid-season finale may not have been as clear cut as Sheriff Keller would like you to believe—so stop reading now if you haven’t seen the episode yet. Spoilers ahead…

If you were let down by the “reveal” that the school janitor, Mr. Svenson (a.k.a. Joseph Conway), is the Black Hood, then we have some good news: It may not be him. So if you thought that the whole scene on the bridge didn’t seem right, you’re not alone. After all, why would a character who was introduced only a few episodes ago end up being the man responsible for terrorizing Riverdale and Greendale? And what was up with that last scene, when Betty burned all evidence of the Black Hood except for her own hooded mask?

Lili Reinhart understands why you’d be confused. In fact, she wasn’t even sold on the idea that Svenson was the Black Hood when she read the script. “I don’t think the mystery is completely solved just yet,” she tells us. “There are a lot of questions behind the motive.” We had a lot of questions for Lili as well, who was more than gracious to explain everything—well, almost. Read on.

Spill it, Lili! I don’t know what to think after that last scene.

Lili Reinhart: [Laughs] There are a lot of cliffhangers. Even at the end of the episode, things don’t really feel resolved. Things don’t feel right. At least for me watching it, you don’t feel like the mystery was solved; like, there’s still some deep, dark, unspoken mystery going on—and that’s intriguing. There are a lot of questions.

Exactly. You think, “Is it really Svenson, or is there more to the Black Hood mystery?” Because what motive would Svenson have for shooting Fred Andrews?

Lili: Right. If you’re thinking about why Svenson would do that, it would be because he just has a vendetta against the town. I mean, one must have a really big grudge on Fred. I mean, Fred wasn’t necessarily doing anything wrong [when he had a thing with Hermione]. He wasn’t with his wife anymore. I think there are a lot of questions behind the motive, and that’s what makes you question whether that was really the Black Hood or not.

When did you find out who the Black Hood was? And when you did find out—at least up until this episode—were you surprised?

Lili: I found out when I got the script. Obviously, Svenson wasn’t even a character [on Riverdale] until episode seven, so you didn’t even know who this person was [until then]. So there was no way you could have predicted that. But even shooting the episode…I do think that Svenson wasn’t really the Black Hood, and that the situation is not really over. I think there’s much more to it, whatever it may be. I don’t think the Black Hood mystery is completely solved just yet.

Interesting.

Lili: I’ve seen so many theories of who people think it is, but I honestly don’t know! I don’t think the mystery has been solved yet.

There’s so much to unpack in every episode that you need a flow chart. Is it hard to keep track of every development?

Lili: Well, to me it’s kind of easier because I’m mostly focused on Betty’s storyline. Betty doesn’t really know what’s going on with Hiram and the Lodges, for instance. So in my mind, it helps to not focus too much on storylines outside of Betty. If she doesn’t know, I don’t necessarily want to know either. I don’t want that to infiltrate through my acting with any of the other characters and have knowledge my character doesn’t. I have to remind myself, “Oh, Betty doesn’t even know about that.” Sometimes it’s OK to be a little left in the dark and to focus on my stuff rather than everyone else’s. We all read the scripts when we have our table reads, but when I go back and read again I focus on my part and let the others slip out of my mind to be more focused and in tune with what Betty has going on.

As an actor, was it difficult to be in such a traumatic headspace most of the time? Or was this a dream episode to do?

Lili: It’s kind of parallel to episode five for me, where I’m dealing with the phone calls from the Black Hood and having to break up with Jughead and break things off with Veronica as well. The mid-season finale was a very intense episode to shoot, especially the big ending sequence with the chase and everything. During one of the first nights we were running on some grass, and I stepped in a pile of dirt and completely fell on my face. It was actually quite hilarious. It hurt, but when I fall it’s hysterical. I was embarrassed, but it was fun. We shot the buried coffin scene until 4 A.M. one night, and I remember it just started to rain, too, and was really gross and muddy out. But actually, I had a really good time. I got splinters all over my hands from wiping the dirt off the coffin, but it was so fun to do that because it was so different. And with the running stuff, I was surprised by my stamina and how much I was able to run. But then you see K.J. rocketing past me!

I actually was kind of was annoyed by that! Did we really have to see Archie surpass Betty? She’s a badass!

Lili: No, K.J. is a super human. He can run really fast. And I can run really fast—and I was running really fast—but then compared to K.J. I look like I’m going pretty slowly and am a wimp. K.J. is just extraordinarily fast. I’m not slow. [Laughs] So I want that on the record! But it was just such a fun episode in that regard—and also that it was Christmas-themed. I just think it’s a pretty fantastic mid-season finale.

We have to talk about that kiss with Archie in the car. I actually like them together, but fans are very much obsessed with Bughead. Are you prepared for how they will react after this episode?

Lili: [Laughs] I feel like there’s going to be a freak out, but I think they’re going to try and calm themselves down by saying it wasn’t really romantic and was kind of in the heat of the moment. Like, it wasn’t pre-meditated. It wasn’t really a romance that was building necessarily; it was just something that happened really quickly, and I think that’s what is going to keep the Bughead fans at ease. They’re going to be like, “OK, I don’t really know if there’s a romance here. I think it was just a spur of the moment action.” But there are people who do enjoy Betty and Archie together and are excited to see that relationship, so I’m happy for them. [At the same time,] I’m also kind of sad for the Bughead fans because they see this other coupling that they don’t like coming together. It kind of scares them because their “ship” that they love is being torn apart. But you know, it’s a drama on the CW. The characters are 16, so there’s gonna be back-and-forth all over the place all the time. I don’t think any one “ship”—like a Bughead, or a Barchie, or Varchie fans—should give up hope at any time because you never know.

Should we assume that Cheryl saw Archie and Betty kiss before they drove away from her house, and she will probably be the one who exposes their romantic moment?

Lili: Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that Cheryl saw them kiss. Knowing Cheryl, she is going to have that knowledge and keep it in her back pocket if and when she wants to use it against them.
