Camila Cabello Came Incredibly Close to Kissing Nick Jonas on New Year's Eve


New Year’s Rockin Eve was memorable for a few reasons this time around—Mariah Carey’s take two, Maria Menous’ wedding—one of which we’re just catching wind of. Singer Camila Cabello had a lil’ story to tell when she appeared on the Tonight Show Friday evening regarding a midnight kiss of her own that almost was.

The singer was invited to Times Square to perform her solo hit, “Havana.” But as the minute hand began inching toward 12 and the ball began to drop, she looked around and realized who she was with.

“When you go into the ball drop thing, they do not let you bring your family with you… so it was just me, and I had Nick Jonas, and Ryan Seacrest and Mariah Carey and the ball was dropping, and I was like, ‘Am I going to kiss Nick Jonas!?'” Cabello told Jimmy Fallon.

Apparently (apparently!) she only thought about that because that’s just what you do on New Year’s Eve. Definitely no other reason. Nope. Much like many of us faced with the prospect of locking lips with a Jonas bro as the clock strikes midnight, she, um, “chickened out.” Relatable!

“But I thought it would be funny! You know what I mean?” Cabello said. “Mariah Carey did blow me a kiss though so that was good!”

The singer, formerly of Fifth Harmony before branding out on her own, has had similar moments when it comes to celebs, including getting “kind of weird” around Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Gonna say it now: same (should it ever actually happen). What a glorious life, Cabello.

Jennifer Lopez Just Gave an Incredibly Emotional Speech Supporting Time's Up


Jennifer Lopez isn’t going to be attending the Golden Globes—and for a very good reason. She’s on the ground in Puerto Rico, working on relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria (she’s already donated $1 million to relief efforts as well). There’s plenty of work ahead for the recovering nation, as more than three months after the storm, just over half the island had power as of December 30. J.Lo landed on the island Sunday afternoon with A-Rod to do what she could for the situation, and in a speech during a press conference, also spoke up about Time’s Up, tying its desire for equality to a critique of the U.S. government for not doing enough to help Puerto Rico recover.

“We are humbled and proud to be a part of this effort,” she says in a clip posted to her Instagram. Both she and A-Rod are wearing black. “You know, today is the Golden Globes in Los Angeles, and a lot of the women, with #TimesUp, are standing up for equality, to be treated equally, and for sexual harassment. I stand here in black doing the same from far away. It’s the same with here in Puerto Rico, we want to be treated equally.”

The audience claps as she finishes her statement, clearly emotional.

At the Golden Globes tonight, the Time’s Up movement—launched on January 1 with more than 300 powerful women in Hollywood backing it—is set to reshape, if even for one night, how the red carpet looks and is reported on. Women and men allied with the movement are dressing in all back, and red carpet reporting is (supposed to) be focusing less on what designers women are wearing and more on the need for Time’s Up. Additionally, eight actresses with ties to Time’s Up are bringing some truly incredible activists with them for the evening. Here’s to hoping that this marks the beginning of a shift not just on the red carpet, but in Hollywood culture.

J.Lo and A-Rod’s relief trip to Puerto Rico will certainly bring about some good. Props to her for speaking out about the situation and continuing to shed light on the humanitarian crisis.

This Powerful Message From the Girl Scouts About Consent Is Incredibly Important


The Girl Scouts have published a powerful message just in time for the holidays that cautions parents about forcing their children to hug adults. Targeted to the time of year when family gatherings are common, the now-viral article, titled “Reminder: She Doesn’t Owe Anyone a Hug. Not Even at the Holidays”, warns parents not to make their kids hug or kiss relatives and other people.

“Think of it this way, telling your child that she owes someone a hug either just because she hasn’t seen this person in a while or because they gave her a gift can set the stage for her questioning whether she ‘owes’ another person any type of physical affection when they’ve bought her dinner or done something else seemingly nice for her later in life,” a developmental psychologist for the Girl Scouts explained in the piece. (The advice in the piece of course applies to children of any gender, not just girls.)

Of course, the message wasn’t without backlash. Some critics of the story accused the group of sexualizing a common way to greet family. Others argued that the Scouts’ message could trigger an emotional conflict in kids.

But it’s not about a child not being allowed to hug or kiss family members—or being made to feel like it’s wrong to do so. As the Girl Scouts’ article stressed, it’s about a child being “reticent” to hug or kiss a family member and being forced to do so, versus doing it of their own free will: “Of course, many children may naturally want to hug and kiss family members, friends, and neighbors, and that’s lovely—but if your daughter is reticent, don’t force her.”

The other point the organization made in the article was that in light of the recent waves of sexual allegations and abuse, practicing consent should be taught early in young children.

“The lessons girls learn when they’re young about setting physical boundaries and expecting them to be respect last a lifetime, and can influence how she feels about herself and her body as she gets older,” Girl Scouts of America psychologist, Dr. Andrea Bastiani Archibald, said in the article. “Plus, sadly, we know that some adults prey on children, and teaching your daughter about consent early on can help her understand her rights, know when lines are being crossed, and when to go to you for help.”

The article also stressed that being polite is still important—but there are alternative ways of being polite and showing affection that don’t necessarily require such close physical contact, like giving high-fives or blowing kisses. In sum? “Give your girl the space to decide when and how she wants to show affection.”

Beyoncé Gave an Incredibly Powerful Speech to Hurricane Harvey Survivors in Houston


In the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Beyoncé, a born-and-bred Houstonian, has made a commitment to support charities that support recovery efforts in Texas through her foundation, BeyGOOD. Bread of Life, Greater Houston Community Foundation, and Texas Southern University have all been on her organization’s list for giving, but residents of Houston got another form of outreach on Friday: a visit from Queen B herself.

Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, and Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles Lawson showed up at St. Johns Church in Houston at a BeyGOOD event to support victims of the hurricane. Beyoncé spoke about how the church was her home, delivering a powerful message to all Houstonians impacted by the storm.

“You are such an incredible example of what light and love is,” Beyoncé told the crowd. “And this today is a celebration of survival. Y’all are my family. Houston is my home. And I thank God that y’all are safe, that your children are safe. The thing that really matters is your health and your children and your family and God.”

“And I just to want to say I love you. I am so, so thankful to God that I feel blessed so that I can bless other people. And I ask you guys to continue to do that for other people.”

The Knowles-Carters also served meals to survivors.

Other celebrities have also rallied to the cause: the Kardashians, Miley Cyrus, President Donald Trump, Sandra Bullock, Taylor Swift, and others have all pledge to donate substantial sums to relief efforts. It’s great to see such an outpouring of support to help those who have been affected by the hurricane from those in a position to donate.

Gwen Stefani’s Leave In Conditioner Saved My Incredibly Dry Hair

About a month ago, I got a haircut that, not to exaggerate, ruined my life. Most days, I love my 3a-slash-b curls. They’ve got a life of their own, but with a finely tuned regimen we’ve reached a place of understanding. Self-acceptance! I feel great about my curls most days, but a trip to a new hairstylist burned that down in twenty minutes.

A few snips, and the curls that fell with a volume I’m comfortable with were gone, replaced by layers that were just too short. I heard in my head a death knell: too short layers equals undefined, crazy fluffy, frizzy layers, and while that might be some people’s flavor, it’s not mine.

I knew it’d eventually get back to normal, but that didn’t change the way I felt or how unhappy my huge hair and fuzzy curls made me. The wrong cut doesn’t exactly change your hair texture—that grows out of your head, same as ever—but my routine of Kinky Curly’s Knot Today leave in conditioner and L.A. Looks Extreme Sport Gel were no longer enough. The only thing to do was try every single product in the Glamour offices, until I found something that worked for my dry-as-the-desert hair. Much like those heavy vests dogs wear during storms, I needed something with enough heft to weigh my curls down to their happy place.

I started with Pantene’s Smoothing Combing Creme, 100 percent because I’d just written about it and it was on my desk. According to Gwen Stefani‘s hairstylist, Danilo, he uses it as a leave-in conditioner to keep her hair healthy in between their weekly bleaching sessions (yes, weekly ?). Even just one run-in with bleach can turn people’s hair to straw, so if Stefani’s getting lifted weekly and holding onto such silky hair, all signs pointed to this combing creme. (FYI, if the term is new to you, it’s basically a leave-in, styler, and detangler in one, or as I like to put it, a “miracle in a bottle.”)

Danilo refers to leave-in conditioners as “the secret” to happy hair. He uses this one specifically on almost everyone (he’s a spokesperson for the brand, so luckily he has an ample supply). Lo and behold, it’s worked every bit on my hair as he claimed it would.

I subbed it in for the first step in my routine. After showering, I rub a generous-sized squirt in the palm of my hands and run the cream through my hair using my fingers, then I follow it with the L.A. Looks gel applied in sections. It smells a tiny bit too sweet, as most drugstore floral-scented things do, but this $5 leave-in conditioner leaves my curls hydrated, defined, and shiny (and the scent fades quickly). Things never work on the first try. But the truth is the truth: I’ve used this cream every single shower since, and now I get it, Gwen Stefani. It’s just that good.

This Incredibly Glowy Highlighter Is In Every Pro's Bag, And Now At Sephora

Just about every makeup artist puts their own personal spin on their work—some people swear by outer eye highlighter, while others would rather eat their arm than give you faded-out “Instagram brows.” But across the board, one of the only things most makeup artists have in common is a whole-hearted devotion to RMS’s Living Luminizer. As soon as you stick your finger in that little damp pot, you get it—as unappealing as “little damp pot” sounds, it’s one of the best, most all-out incredible highlighters in the biz. Before, you could get your hands on it, but it was by no means mainstream. So here comes the best news all day: every pro’s favorite highlighter is now available in your local Sephora.

The phrase “every pro’s favorite [blank]” tends to show up a lot of places, but just trust us, there’s rarely a makeup artist’s kit that doesn’t have the little white pot close at hand. Drawing on only seven ingredients (the brand prides itself on being all-natural and cruelty-free), the highlighter is the go-to for a dewy, lit-from-within, goddess kind of glow. Thank the combination of castor seed oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and the shimmering mica that makes it tick—it’s no Huda Beauty highlighter or Becca prismatic deal, but if you’re a fan of looking a few notches more ethereal, you really can’t get better than RMS.

The Living Luminizer is its cult classic, but Sephora is stocking the full line, which is convenient if it all vice grips onto your heart. Also, can we give a shout-out to the many brands Sephora has been grabbing up lately? First Tom Ford, then Kiehl’s, then ColourPop. Legit, just when you think Sephora can’t get better, oh, does it.

Other top hits by RMS include Un-Cover Up, a dewy concealer foundation hybrid (Emma Watson’s a fan, so, sold), the multitasking Lip2Cheek pigment and the Eye Polish. Honestly though, there’s not really a dud in the bunch. But priced from $25 to $38, a gotta catch ’em all situation isn’t exactly feasible—so fingers crossed something shows up in a Sephora 50 percent off sale soon.
