Sephora Beauty Insider Sale 2020: The Best Deals to Shop


Everything in the world may feel a little different right now, but one of our favorite happenings has not been canceled: The Sephora Beauty Insider Sale. The Olympics, movie releases, and eating out at restaurants may be on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, but we can all still shop and save on our favorite hair, makeup, and skin care products—online, of course, since Sephora retail stores remain closed indefinitely.

The brand’s beloved Beauty Insider Savings Event begins on Friday, April 17 and runs through May 1—so if you’re not already a VIP member, now’s the time to sign up. Plus, it’s totally free to join.

However, there are different levels of access to the products on sale. Basically, it works like this: For Rouge members (anyone who’s spent $1,000 or more in a calendar year), savings of 20% off of their entire purchase will be valid from April 17 to May 1. For VIB members (shoppers who spent at least $350 last year), the sale will run from Tuesday, April 21 through Wednesday, April 29, and includes 15% off all orders. And for Insiders (anyone who signs up for the retailer’s loyalty program), the savings run from Thursday, April 23 through Monday, April 27, with an offer of 10% off all purchases. But the code to enter at checkout is the same for everyone: SPRINGSAVE.

Now that you’re all signed up and ready to go for the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale, it’s time to start making your shopping list—a great way to add some beauty joy into your quarantine life. Sephora and Ulta Are Suspending Beauty Services Because of Coronavirus


As growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic mount, just about every industry—from restaurants and theater to film and music—has been forced to make sweeping changes to limit people’s exposure to one another. Beauty retailers, whose very sales depend on people touching their eyes, lips, and faces, especially are reckoning with health experts’ guidelines to promote social distancing and restricted contact.

Over the last few days, it’s led several retailers to reconsider their policies and double down on sanitation concerns. Many, like Sephora and Ulta Beauty, have announced they’re suspending in-store services, including facials and makeup application, to limit physical contact—while Glossier has decided to close its stores entirely.

On March 11, Sephora announced in an email to its customers and via its community page that the retailer is taking concerns seriously, and would be suspending all in-store services, makeup applications, and classes until further notice. The statement also noted that “high-touch areas” would be regularly cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectant and there will be increased hand sanitizer access throughout the store. Additionally, all testers would be regularly cleaned and “replaced as needed.” The brand will also offer free shipping on every purchase through the end of March to encourage people to shop from home.

Ulta is taking similar precautions. On March 11, Ulta CEO Mary Dillon posted a statement on the retailer’s website explaining that store cleanliness is Ulta’s “top priority,” and that “increased sanitization measures are being added to all locations with extra attention to product testers and high traffic areas.” She also urged shoppers to ask associates for help with samples, and to reschedule any in-store services. In an update on March 12, Dillon announced Ulta would also be suspending skin, brow, wax, and lash services, and would be implementing a “no-touch policy” when it comes to services like shade matching. Hair appointments will continue, with an emphasis on cleanliness.

However, one amenity a majority of retailers haven’t halted yet—to much discussion on the internet—is makeup testers.

One Ulta employee told Insider she finds it “astonishing” how willing customers are to use testers given the current health crisis, adding she even had someone ask if they could buy a sample lipstick since they liked the oxidized shade better. The New York Times reports that though one Sephora store they visited was being diligent about wiping down surfaces, “early this week consultants in at least one store were still applying makeup from common testers to customers.”

Sephora to Shut Down Every U.S. Store For Diversity Training


If you try to swing by your local Sephora on Wednesday, June 5, you’ll be out of luck. The beauty chain announced that they plan to close all of its U.S. stores, distribution centers, and corporate offices for company-wide diversity training. The move comes after R&B singer SZA—a former Sephora employee—tweeted in April that she was racially profiled while shopping in the store’s Calabasas, California, location.

“Lmao Sandy Sephora location 614 Calabasas called security to make sure I wasn’t stealing . We had a long talk. U have a blessed day Sandy,” she tweeted. Sephora’s official Twitter handle responded with an apology: “You are a part of the Sephora family, and we are committed to ensuring every member of our community feels welcome and included at our stores.”

Along with the diversity training, Sephora has also launched a “Belong” initiative with a new tagline, “We Belong To Something Beautiful.”

In its new manifesto, Sephora declares that the company “believes in championing all beauty, living with courage, and standing fearlessly together to celebrate our differences.”

In a statement, CEO Deborah Yeh says that the company is committed to “continued innovation and action for the benefit of our clients, our communities, and our industry.” The diversity training is their first step toward honoring that commitment. “Through this, we’ll look to begin a dialogue with our 16K+ US employees about what inclusivity and values mean to Sephora,” Yeh said. “And we’ll plan to sustain this dialogue with future training moments for our fleet.”

Sephora isn’t the first major U.S. company to take these sorts of measures after a racial incident. Last year, Starbucks closed all of its American stores for a day of racial bias education after a video of two black men being arrested at a Philadelphia location went viral and drew criticism and accusations of racism.

“I’ve spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership team listening to the community, learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it,” Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said in a statement at the time. “While this is not limited to Starbucks, we’re committed to being a part of the solution. Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities.”
