It’s New Year’s Eve, and after several days (or more) of uninterrupted family time for the holidays, it’s no surprise that everyone, celebrities included, are ready to cut loose and ring in the new year. But while most of us are off to house parties to ring in 2018 or to a nearby bar for a midnight champagne toast—or, hey, staying in and watching these 20 great Netflix movies that are way better than going out, TBH—A-listers are taking their celebrations to some pretty ideal vacation destinations. This Incredible Photo of the Royal Family Was Taken on an iPhone


A near-perfect shot of the royal family as they walked by for Christmas Day service at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate was taken by an unsuspecting subject. No, it wasn’t a paparazzo or famous photographer who took the snapshot of the year, but a regular British person standing in the crowd. They managed to snap a glorious photo of Prince William, Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, after grabbing their attention with a quick “Merry Christmas!” greeting.

The Telegraph reports that Karen Murdoch, a 39-year-old British mother, took the photo with her iPhone on Christmas Day before tweeting it out to the general public. Nearly every major newspaper in England, from the Daily Mail to the Daily Telegraph, used the image on their front pages on Tuesday. The Sun‘s royal photographer, Arthur Edwards, told the press, “We had probably the 20 best photographers in the country there, and she’s scooped us all.”

After receiving attention from thousands of Twitter accounts, the photo went viral, and Murdoch hired celebrity agent Ken Goff to manage the money the photo is expected to make so that she doesn’t have to give the photo up for free. Hiring Goff is a smart move, as he projects that the perfect royal image may bring in thousands of pounds for Murdoch, who plans to spend the money on her 17-year-old daughter Rachel’s university expenses. Murdoch, who works at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, told the press her daughter would like to join her by working at the same hospital one day, revealing, “I hope this will help because she wants to go into some form of nursing. I want to be able to support her as her mum. Now I want to save money for my daughter for (university), and if I can do that and can get that opportunity, that’s amazing.”

Kim Kardashian Has Icy-Blue Hair Now, and It Looks Incredible


We’ve gotten almost—almost!—used to Kim Kardashian‘s gorgeous platinum blond hair. Now it looks like she’s changing it up again—and we never would have expected this new shade on her.

Kim stepped out on Saturday with (wait for it) the wintriest blue hair we’ve ever seen. We’re talking the blue of frozen-over skating ponds and the snowflake emoji. And the best part? She coordinated it with her whole damn outfit and somehow managed to not look like a Smurf. Instead, the whole ~ lewk ~ looks impossibly, icily cool. Then again, it’s Kim Kardashian, so what else were we expecting here?

Her hairstylist, Chris Appleton, first posted an Instagram with the new shade on Sunday afternoon, adding in the snowflake emoji because that is exactly what she looks like in the best way possible. “❄️ Guys lets talk about how fire @kimkardashian looks!” he captioned the photo.

Kim’s still kept that blunt lob that she’s had since the beginning of December, whose angular shape looks especially fresh with this cool shade (we’re assuming she got her ends trimmed up while her whole hair persona was being reworked just now). But her roots are still deliberately on show, which adds a little bit of edge to the look (diggin’ it).

If you’re curious about how she keeps her hair so healthy with the processing involved, by the way, she’s said in the past that she swears by the Nexxus Emergecee Protein Treatment.

In any case, if this experimentation with color heralds a new hair phase for Kim in 2018, we’re into it—and we can’t wait to see what she does next. In the meantime, we’re still anxiously awaiting the conclusion of that family Kristmas Kard.

This Incredible Bubble Bath Was Made for Hard-to-Please Moms


At the risk of sounding like a horrible daughter, finding a present for my mom is a challenge. The subtext to that sentence is, it’s a frigging nightmare. I blame genetics. I got my mom’s sense of humor, stubborn hair, and absolute hatred of change. We know what we know, we like what we like, and that means we’re almost impossible to buy gifts for. That said, we’re not monsters. My whole family has honed a very genuine, heartfelt “thank you! I love it!” response, before we quietly stash things in the closet for years to come. So when a gift comes along that lands in constant rotation? Oh, the glory, the sweet victory, the unadulterated pride as I wrap it up. It’s a failsafe. It’s the bougiest bubble bath in the world.

Everything about Laura Mercier’s Crème Brulee Honey Bath is over the top. There’s the name (Crème Brulee Honey; when they use an “è,” you know it’s luxury), and the brand’s directions, which tell you to “step in and escape from your daily worries.” That’s usually impossible, but the elaborate process takes you away from your phone for five minutes, and I count that a win. You start by dunking the wooden honey dipper into the Crème Brulee Honey Bath, then twirl—you must twirl—it under running water. The description of its smell is a work of art. “The Crème Brulee scent is a rich caramel and crème,” the brand writes, “with subtle nuances of French Vanilla beans and white musk.” The scent sticks to your skin all day, and it reads musky and rich, sweet but not cloying. Those subtle nuances! For all of those reasons, this bubble bath sets itself apart.

As much as I love my $4.89 jug of Dr. Teal’s Foaming Bath (and I do), this bath is an experience, the very thing that marketers are always talking about millennials loving. Throw that stereotype to the wind. My mom’s a Boomer, and generation regardless, people love a bubble bath. The mental picture paints itself. There they are with their Crème Brulee Honey Bath, their subtle nuances of French Vanilla beans and white musk. Add some wine, a book, and a phone on silent, and you’ve given the gift of alone time, elevated.

Thanks to her Midwestern upbringing, my mom would never spend $45 on bubble bath (one trait I haven’t inherited, oops). But the price tag’s worth it, because on top of actually wanting to use the bath, she’ll feel bad letting it waste away. Guilt, leading to joy and relaxation? It’s the perfect mom present.

Homelessness Was This Teenager's Biggest Secret, But Her Incredible Story Has a Happy Ending


Every year, 600,000 families with 1.3 million children experience homelessness in the United States. That’s a staggering number. Under such heartbreaking circumstances, no one would fault children dealing with homelessness for feeling despair that impacts their relationships, drive and performance in school. But Angelique didn’t succumb to any of that.

Her story is one that can inspire both compassion and support from those not directly touched by homelessness, and serve as a powerful message to the 600,000 families dealing with homelessness: they can get through it.

Angelique’s mother, Leigh, suffers from depression and bipolar disorder, which have made it difficult for her to maintain a steady income. Angelique’s father, originally from Nigeria, lives in California. Now 18, Angelique, Leigh, and Leigh’s mother lived in their car for 8 months when Angelique was 13, and Angelique still managed to maintain straight As during this period.

Rather than making her angry or leaving her feeling defeated, Angelique’s past (and current struggles as a result of her mother’s ongoing battle with bipolar disorder) have galvanized her to help others. While she’s a talented actor and dancer, she wants to become a psychologist so she can help people like her mother who are suffering from mental illness. Her primary goal in the near-term is to become completely independent: “I know I have no safety net. Everything that I want to be, it’s all on me. This experience has driven me to this independence in the way that I never felt like I had an option to neglect my schoolwork, because I knew [it] was my ticket to never having to experience anything like this again.”
