This Is the Most Popular Guess For the Name of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Baby


One of the first things many people did after hearing about Meghan Markle‘s pregnancy was start debating the name of her future child. According to multiple outlets, on Monday (October 15)—mere hours after Kensington Palace released the pregnancy announcement— betting companies were already setting the odds for the #RoyalBaby name.

If the baby is a girl, oddsmaker Paddy Power already has Diana, in honor of Prince Harry’s late mother, as the leading option, E! News reports. Ladbrokes, however, has given Victoria top odds, per Express, while Fitzdares has Alice in the top spot, according to the Evening Standard. Other potential names for a daughter include Elizabeth, Isabella, Mary, and Alexandria. If Prince Harry and Markle welcome a son, however, Ladbrokes has Albert, Arthur, and Philip in a three-way tie, each with 10 to one odds, while Fitzdares has Alexander shooting far above the rest, with odds of two to one.

Though the majority of bets so far have been placed on more traditional names, these outlets also note that it’s entirely likely that the parents-to-be could put a slightly edgier moniker on their child’s birth certificate. For one thing, since Markle is American, she doesn’t have any particularly strong ties to these family names. And for another, her and Prince Harry’s child will be seventh in line to the throne and unlikely to ever be king or queen, and could thus get away with having a more modern name.

As you ponder your own predictions for the baby’s name, here are some things to consider. Prince Harry’s full name is Henry Charles Albert David, and Meghan’s is Rachel Meghan Markle — either of which could certainly be mined for naming inspiration. Additionally, Prince Harry’s older brother Prince William paid tribute to Princess Diana (and to their grandmother Queen Elizabeth II) when he and Kate Middleton named their own daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Finally, Prince William and Middleton also have included the name Louis in both of their sons’ names; perhaps Prince Harry and Markle will carry on this tradition as a bit of an inside joke.

Here's Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Child Might Not Be a Prince or Princess


Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will be getting a new baby cousin next spring, courtesy of their uncle Prince Harry and aunt Meghan Markle, the palace announced Monday morning. But when the trio’s newest playmate arrives, he or she won’t have the same royal title as them. According to The Evening Standard, only children of the king or queen or male-lineage grandchildren of the king or queen are automatically born with the title of HRH prince or princess.

That rule, according to the Standard, was put in place by King George V in 1917, when he decreed, “The grandchildren of the sons of any such Sovereign in the direct male line (save only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall have and enjoy in all occasions the style and title enjoyed by the children of Dukes of these Our Realms.”

Technically, under that rule, Prince George was supposed to be the only one of Queen Elizabeth II’s great-grandchildren to bear that title, but before his birth, QE2 issued a Letters Patent that allowed all of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s children to be princes and princesses. Therefore, per the Standard, the queen could issue another, similar decree affording Prince Harry’s kids the same privilege. If she doesn’t, they’ll simply inherit one of their father’s courtesy titles—the extraneous titles Queen Elizabeth gave him before his wedding day, alongside the Duke of Sussex moniker—such as Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Unfortunately, those titles will only pass on to Harry and Meghan’s sons, while their daughters would simply carry the title of “Lady” before their names.

Whatever their formal royal titles, the children will share the royal family’s last name, Mountbatten-Windsor. In recent history, however, the royals have opted not to go by that mouthful of a surname in their day-to-day lives: Prince William and Prince Harry have both used the last name Wales, since their father is the Prince of Wales, and it was recently reported that Prince George goes by George Cambridge (again, in honor of his father’s title) at preschool. If they follow that tradition, Markle and Prince Harry’s offspring would use Sussex as a last name.

Now that that’s all cleared up, all that’s left to do is start taking bets on what the royal baby-to-be’s first name will be.

Priyanka Chopra and Meghan Markle are good friends—and if you’ve checked the Internet some time in the last year, then you probably know this. It’s not a recent thing, either: The Quantico actress and Duchess of Sussex have been close for years (they even attended Hamilton together—the ultimate sign of friendship). Chopra’s opened up about her bond with Markle a few times, at one point defending her to Wendy Williams after the host called her “Prince Harry’s girlfriend.” Simply put, they’re tight!

Chopra attended Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding back in May, but a lot has happened since then. Chopra is now engaged to Nick Jonas, and the two are currently taking New York Fashion Week by storm. The couple stopped by the Ralph Lauren 50th anniversary event on Friday (September 7) and looked ridiculously hot, obviously. That’s nothing new, to be honest—but what might surprise you is a photo the two of them took inside the event.

Chopra and Jonas posed for a couple’s shot taken by Alexi Lubomirski—and the image looks almost exactly like Prince Harry and Markle’s engagement photo. That’s not a coincidence, either: Lubomirski, if you forget, also did the royal couple’s engagement shoot.

“Meghan, standing shoulder to shoulder with Harry, will be a princess for the people,” Chopra wrote about her friend in Time magazine a few months back, also adding, “Meghan is an important influencer in a world that needs strong public figures to respect and look up to.” It looks like her influence also translates to engagement pics—and we’re definitely not mad about it.

Here's the Moment Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Bishop Knew They Were in Love


Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had no shortage of adorable moments—either before or after their royal wedding for the ages. Case in point: That time recently when Harry, ever so gallantly, stepped in in the nick of time to save Markle from a topple. It’s honestly all a bit much sometimes, but just to compound the cute, the Most Reverend Bishop Michael Curry has spoken out in an interview with Us Weekly about the moment he knew that the two were really, truly in love (as if there were a doubt!).

If you remember, Bishop Curry was the real star of the royal wedding (the couple getting married excluded, obviously). He gave a rousing sermon, the likes of which many in the audience had never heard before, aptly named The Power of Love. Given that he’s pretty much an expert on it, of course he was the right person to talk about the moment he knew the two were 100-percent smitten.

“They look at each other like they love each other. I remember thinking after the sermon, once I preached the sermon, I said, ‘These two people love each other,'” he told Us Weekly. “They look at each other, and their love brought the rest of us together.”

But he wasn’t done yet—he had something even more poignant to say about the couple who once stood before him.

“Their love, even if it was just for a few moments, showed us the power of what unselfish love that gives itself to another can actually do,” he told the magazine.

Well, if that isn’t #couplegoals, we don’t know what is.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's First Big Trip Abroad Sounds So Fun


Newlyweds Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will travel to Dublin next month, their first international trip together since their honeymoon. Kensington Palace confirmed on Tuesday (June 19) that the trip will take place on July 10 and 11 and that “this visit is at the request of Her Majesty’s Government.” Vanity Fair is reporting this trip will serve as a “mini-moon” of sorts for the couple.

“The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to learning more about Ireland’s history and experiencing its rich culture, as well as meeting the people who are shaping the country’s future,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. “Full details of the visit will be announced in due course.”

Even though Markle has only just joined the royal family officially, she’s no stranger to Ireland. The Duchess of Sussex visited Northern Ireland with Prince Harry recently with a trip to Belfast as a part of the couple’s tour of the U.K. in advance of their May 19 wedding. She also visited the country before Kensington Palace was even a part of her life: According to People, Markle traveled to Dublin to accept an award from Trinity College in 2013 and was even spotted expertly pouring a pint of Guinness on that trip.

Details of their visit have not yet been announced, but a trip to the Guinness Storehouse, which details the brewing process and history of Dublin’s most notorious beverage, is on the table, People reports.

Markle and Prince Harry will also travel to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand later this year in their first royal tour as a married couple. Markle will also be joining her husband at the Invictus Games in Sydney, which take place from October 20 through 27, and the tour will likely take place near those dates. The 2018 Games will mark the fifth year of Prince Harry’s competitive sporting event for wounded veterans, but the first year he’ll be traveling to the event as a married man.

There Was a Hilarious Hidden Detail at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Second Royal Wedding Reception


It’s been exactly one week since the now-Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot at their royal wedding in Windsor Chapel. And although it seemed like the entire world was watching what went down inside the church—Harry’s lip bite, Bishop Michael Curry’s epic sermon, the Kingdom Choir’s amazing “Stand By Me” rendition—the couple decided to make their evening wedding reception a highly private event for their nearest and dearest.

Guests at the reception, of which there were only around 200, were not allowed to bring their cell phones inside—understandably, details of the afterparty hosted by Prince Charles have remained pretty under wraps. But because this was undoubtedly where the real fun was had, we obviously want to know everything we can.

According to Vanity Fair, James Corden and Serena Williams allegedly played beer pong, and George Clooney, Kate Middleton, Meghan, and her mother Doria Ragland all took part in a dance-off competition. Prince William also apparently roasted his brother in his best man speech.

Now, a new detail has emerged, and it proves this couple has the best sense of humor. Meghan Markle’s close friend, Jania Gavankar, shared the hilarious way Meghan and Harry poked at their respective American and British nationalities during their reception.

According to the True Blood actress, each table at the reception at Frogmore House was named after a food that’s pronounced differently in the United States and in the United Kingdom.

“Potato, potato, tomato, tomato, oregano, oregano,” Gavankar told the magazine in a quote that doesn’t entirely translate well to print. “It was so sweet. There were so many nods to the beautiful mashup of two cultures.”

She also said the “family and chosen family” who were selected to attend the reception “danced until the wee hours. We partied and celebrated and ate sliders at 2 in the morning,” she said. “It was such a beautiful day and a carefree night, and it was a very powerful day in history. And I think everybody felt it across the world.”
