Prince William Is Officially Going to Be Prince Harry's Best Man in the Royal Wedding


In news that isn’t surprising but still exciting, Kensington Palace announced Thursday (April 26) that Prince Harry has asked Prince William to be the Best Man in his wedding to Meghan Markle next month.

To celebrate the news, the Palace shared some tender photos of the brothers bonding. The latest is from when they attended the Stars Wars premiere a few months back, and the earliest is of the two of them as boys wearing police hats and ties. Child Prince Harry is standing cutely with his hands on his hips, as if he’s thinking, “Yup, in 30 years, I’m going to marry an actress from a USA network TV show, and the world’s ‘gonna be shook.” Check out Kensington Palace’s Instagram announcement for yourself, below:

And the same message was posted on Twitter, too, so their brotherly love could exist on as many platforms as possible.

Like we said, this news isn’t exactly shocking. Prince William and Prince Harry are similar in age, and they’re very close with each other. Prince Harry was also Best Man in Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, so it’s only fitting he return the favor.

The question that remains now, though, is who will be Meghan Markle’s Maid of Honor. Will it be her mother? Priyanka Chopra? One of the Spice Girls? Please let it be one of the Spice Girls.

While we wait on that information, here’s a quick stream of cute Will-and-Harry moments that make this Best Man news even sweeter.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Wedding Musicians Are So, So Talented


As we draw ever closer to the royal wedding (the date is less than a month away), Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are confirming details left and right. Over the past few weeks, they’ve revealed the florist, the wedding photographer, and the official wedding cake. The latest piece of the puzzle is the music. On Tuesday (April 24), the official Kensington Palace Twitter announced the lineup of musicians who will be playing during the ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, and it’s a very talented group.

First up is 19-year-old cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who in 2016 won the BBC Young Musicians contest. According to a press release, Prince Harry saw Kanneh-Mason play last June, and the young musician was asked by Markle herself to provide the tunes for the wedding. “I’m so excited and honoured to perform at Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle’s wedding,” he said in a statement. “I was bowled over when Ms. Markle called me to ask if I would play during the ceremony, and of course I immediately said yes! What a privilege to be able to play the cello at such a wonderful event. I can’t wait!”

Kanneh-Mason is joined by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir, a Christian gospel group based in southeast England that’s “dedicated to creating a sound that demonstrates the community they share.” According to a press release, the group is also known for “its united sound, warm energy, and enthusiastic performance.”

“The Kingdom Choir is truly honoured to be invited to sing at the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Markle, and very excited to be taking part in such a historic moment,” said Gibson, the founder and conductor. “It will be a moment that we will always treasure, and we’d like to take the opportunity to wish the couple all the very best for their coming union.”

Rounding out the lineup is the Choir of St. George’s Chapel, an orchestra conducted by Christopher Warren-Green with musicians from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra, according to Reuters. James Vivian, the director of music at St. George’s Chapel, will direct all the music, which will be a “number of well-known hymns and choral works” that have been hand-picked by Markle and Prince Harry with “a great deal of interest and care.” The actual set list will be released closer to the wedding date.

Previously, the Spice Girls hinted they had all been invited to the wedding, and Mel B heavily implied they were performing. If the rumors are true, then they’d be singing during the reception, not the ceremony itself (although that would be amazing). So far, though, none of the five Spice Girls has confirmed a performance.

Here's What Kate Middleton Will Be Doing During Meghan and Harry's Royal Wedding


There are only 28 days until Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry‘s Royal Wedding Day, something we’ve definitely marked as an official holiday on our iCals. But leading up to the big event, Meghan’s future sister-in-law Kate Middleton and future brother-in-law Prince William have a whole lot going on. At the moment, Kate is very pregnant with Baby No. 3 and is due to give birth any day now. The exact due date hasn’t been released, but it’s been rumored to be April 23rd—just six days before the royal couple’s seventh wedding anniversary on April 29 and soon before Princess Charlotte’s third birthday on May 2. So how, exactly, does this all square up with Kate and Will participating in Meghan and Harry’s nuptials?

Here’s the deal: Prince William is likely to be Harry’s best man, though the official wedding party details have yet to be announced. And while in any other circumstances Kate might have been asked to be one of Meghan’s bridesmaids, because of the new baby she will not be in the wedding party.

“Frankly, Harry and Meghan are just happy that Kate will be there given she will only just have given birth,” a source told Vanity Fair. “They have told her there is no pressure on her to do anything, they just want her to enjoy the day.”

That’s gotta be music to any new mom’s ears—especially since Kate and William’s other two children will be busy with their own roles at the wedding. According to ABC News, Prince George is expected to serve as a page boy and Princess Charlotte will likely be a flower girl during the wedding at Windsor Castle.

This isn’t the first time the littlest royals have been a part of a wedding party: George was a page boy during their aunt Pippa Middleton’s wedding last May, where he had a bit of a meltdown during the celebration. And Charlotte was a bridesmaid at just 2 years old.

For her sister’s wedding, Kate was in charge of looking after the children in the wedding party and fixing Pippa’s train as she walked down the aisle. This time, she might just be relieved to relax and enjoy the day.

Why Meghan Markle (Probably) Won't Be Sharing Prince Harry's Royal Fortune


The upcoming royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is about to make the United Kingdom an insane amount of money. Their marriage is expected to boost the economy by $680 million thanks to related tourism and T-shirt sales. And while the U.K. will have a lot to thank the soon-to-be royal couple for, Markle will be dealing with some much less fun financial conundrums. Specifically, her United States taxes (and you thought doing yours was annoying).

Although Markle plans to become a U.K. citizen, the process will take approximately three years, during which time Markle will remain a U.S. citizen. Why is this important? Royal expert Marlene Koenig told The Sun, that “Even when married to a member of the British royal family, as long as she remains a U.S. citizen she will have to pay income tax.”

Though Markle has wealth of her own (much of which comes from her role on Suits) that she’ll pay taxes on, she’s also about to marry into a family with a very large fortune. Prince Harry received half of his mother’s £21.5 million (about $29.2 million) estate when she died, and he shares a £3.5 million (about $4.7 million) annual allowance with his brother and sister-in-law, William and Kate. And that’s not to mention the rest of royal family’s worth.

If Markle receives any of her new family’s money, she’ll be at risk of paying income tax on it. “If she receives money from her husband or his family, and that’s considered income, she would have to pay income tax on that,” Koenig explained.

This poses an issue for the royal family, since Markle could have to reveal details of foreign trusts and the worth of the royals’ estate which has remained undisclosed.

“With that sort of money, if Meghan’s name is on that account, most likely she would be dinged—that would have to be reported as income in the United States. You can be sure that those at Buckingham Palace and those who run the accounts are looking very carefully at all of this to make sure that the royal family’s money does not get reported to the IRS,” Koenig said.

While planning her wedding much feel like a fairytale, this part is a royal pain in the you-know-what.

Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Wedding Is Happening So Soon


We don’t know much about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s upcoming wedding at this point. There’s a date in place (May 2018), and the location is set (St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Chapel), but that’s about it. At first glance, their nuptials might seem like a bit of a whirlwind, but keep in mind Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement was roughly this same amount of time. (They announced their wedding in November 2010 and tied the knot the following April.) On the outside, it looks like just your standard royal wedding timeline.

But there is a bit of urgency this time around, though, and it’s all because of Prince Harry’s 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh. A royal expert named Kate Nicholl tells Entertainment Tonight that Prince Harry does feel a bit of pressure to have this wedding sooner rather than later so his grandfather is able to be there for it.

“In fact, one of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly—this is really whirlwind by royal standards—is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding,” Nicholl said. “He’s incredibly close to his grandfather and, [with his] being 96, Harry thought it was it was a great thing to [have] the wedding sooner rather than later so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy.”

It’s for this reason that Prince Harry wanted to have his wedding at St. George’s Chapel too: “He wanted something close to home for the Duke of Edinburgh and the queen,” Nicholl said.

Emotional, right? Who knew we’d be tearing up this much sixth months before the friggin’ wedding?!

Prince William Responds With a Laugh to Comment About Prince Harry's Rumored Engagement

The royal family is staying mum on the topic of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s engagement—namely, whether it already happened or will be happening in the very near future. Most recently Prince William deflected a comment about his younger brother’s potential nuptials with the tried-and-true strategy of laughing awkwardly and changing the subject.

According to People, William paid a visit to William Cowley Parchment Makers, which provides the vellum used for royal and Parliament documents, in the English town of Milton Keynes on Tuesday. Paul Wright, William Cowley’s general manager, told the magazine that he oh-so-casually mentioned to Will that “if Prince Harry marries Meghan, then his certificate will be in our vellum.” In response, William “just laughed—a nice laugh,” Wright said.

Although it’s not much to go on, Prince William’s “nice laugh” is the only comment any member of the royal family has made regarding the engagement (besides Markle’s own coy, wordless smile when asked earlier this summer whether she was planning on taking a trip down the aisle anytime soon), so feel free to perform an unnecessarily deep, obsessive analysis on this sparing report.

The “nice laugh” heard ’round the world took place less than 24 hours after Markle and Prince Harry made their first joint appearance at the Invictus Games in Toronto. On Monday the lovebirds attended a wheelchair tennis match together and then held hands (!) while walking around the event grounds. Notably, the Suits actress was wearing a white button-down shirt from designer Misha Nonoo that’s called the—wait for it—Husband blouse. Be still, our British-royals-loving hearts.

Engagement rumors have been swirling around Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, for months. In July multiple sources reported that a proposal was “fast approaching.” The rumors only increased when, in the span of a few weeks in late August and early September, Harry was reported to be working closely with a jeweler, the pair vacationed in the exact same location in Africa where Prince Harry proposed to Kate, and Markle met Queen Elizabeth.

And if all of that weren’t enough confirmation that an engagement is truly imminent, Markle finally broke her silence on the one-year relationship in the October issue of Vanity Fair. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” she said. “We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
