This Couple Found Out What Happens When You Give Birth in the Same Place as Kate Middleton

It may feel like Kate Middleton and Prince William are the only parents welcoming a new baby today, but that’s not the case. In fact, one British woman gave birth at the same hospital as Middleton—and around the same time, too. As a result, she accidentally received the royal baby media treatment.

An unsuspecting couple not connected to the royal family emerged from the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital, where Middleton gave birth, on Monday (April 23), and they were met with a crowd of photographers who were all eagerly awaiting the public debut of Middleton and Prince William’s new son..

Emily Nash, a reporter for Hello! magazine, captured the shell-shocked faces of the parents holding their baby carrier and facing down the paparazzi. “Gotta feel for these new parents who have just emerged with their newborn to a sea of cameras,” Nash captioned her pic.

The Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital has been the backdrop for the first snapshots of both Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The archway with the name etched into the stone has been associated with royal babies for decades. Prince William and Prince Harry were even photographed in front of it as newborns with Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her third child on Monday morning, April 23. Kensington Palace tweeted out an official statement with a few details about the latest addition to the royal family: “The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

The 'Riverdale' Musical Episode Will Finally Give Cheryl the Spotlight She Deserves

The trailer and rumblings around Riverdale‘s musical episode confirm it’s going to be epic. For one, Cheryl Blossom, the show’s most important but woefully underused character, snagged the lead, titular role in Riverdale High’s production of Carrie: The Musical. That means she’ll be up front and center (preferably with a spotlight on her at all times) as Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Archie (KJ Apa), and the less iconic characters sway in the background.

In fact, Jughead’s quite literally going to be in the background: He’s not even in the musical. Kevin Keller (Casey Cott), the director, has tasked him with filming behind-the-scenes footage, which leaves plenty of room for Cheryl to get the shine she deserves.

Riverdale‘s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Glamour this was an intentional move. “Jughead has always been Riverdale‘s resident storyteller, so it actually made sense for him to be the documentarian for the production,” he said. If you read my recaps, you know I’ve been eagerly waiting for this to happen. Jughead’s beanies have been dominating Riverdale‘s narrative for far too long.”

[embedded content]

Honestly, though, Jughead might still dominate the narrative, even behind the camera. The Riverdale musical episode hasn’t aired yet, so it’s unclear how prominent Cheryl or Jughead or any of the characters will be. This show is known for its twist and turns, so fans should expect the unexpected going into this specialty episode.

That’s essentially what Aguirre-Sacasa told us when we sat down with him to chat about it. “People who aren’t fans of the original Carrie: The Musical stage adaptation are going to love this episode just as much as die-hard fans out there, and I have a feeling will inspire a new generation of Carrie: The Musical fans,” he said.

The episode, however, isn’t just dedicated to staging Carrie: The Musical. The same storylines from the last episode, which aired March 28, will play into this one. Remember, everyone has essentially turned against Veronica (Camila Mendes) after they found out she knew about her parents’ plans to turn South Side High into a prison. This musical, though, forces the characters to come together for a unified cause.

“All of the previous storylines from this season definitely play into the musical episode in a big way,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “At this point in the season, all the various relationships between the characters have become so fractured, and this production of Carrie: The Musical really brings our characters back together in a big way.”

One of those “fractured” relationships is between Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Josie (Ashleigh Murray). In the last episode Penelope Blossom essentially manipulated Josie into thinking Cheryl was creepily obsessed with her. This, in turn, caused Josie to bail on plans to break Cheryl out of Sisters of Quiet Mercy. Aguirre-Sacasa told Glamour we’ll see this relationship play out in the musical episode.

PHOTO: The CW

“You’ll see in this episode how we tackle that relationship head-on,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “Cheryl’s been through a lot these past two seasons, and you really feel for her and her journey by the end of this episode. Hopefully, Josie can be as understanding as our audience.”

Aguirre-Sacasa teased other character developments for Cheryl, as well—specifically about her love life. (In case you somehow forgot, Riverdale High’s resident queen bee came out of the closet a few episodes back.)

“It’s funny because in season one, one note we kept getting was that Cheryl didn’t have a romantic plot line, but the timing and the story never felt right,” he said. “She was dealing with the loss of her brother and her father’s betrayal throughout the first season, so we always knew in season two we would want to dive in deeper with her character.”

So does this mean Riverdale‘s going to dive deeper, as Aguirre-Sacasa puts it, into Cheryl’s relationship with Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan)? After all, the two Riverdale Vixens did kiss after Cheryl escaped Sisters of Quiet Mercy, so perhaps Toni’s the unexpected love interest fans have been waiting for.

“In terms of [Cheryl’s] relationship with Toni, Madelaine and Vanessa have been friends for a while, so they already have such great chemistry together,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “With the introduction of Toni, we realized there was this whole aspect of Cheryl we had yet to explore, and felt this was the perfect introduction to this side of everyone’s favorite River Vixen.”

Regardless of what happens, Cheryl will have at least one family member on her side: Nana Rose. The grand matriarch of the Blossom family fed Toni information about Cheryl’s whereabouts when she was missing—directly defying Penelope Blossom and Uncle Claudius, who disapprove of Cheryl and Toni’s relationship and sent Cheryl away for gay conversion therapy.

Chapter Thirty-One: A Night to Remember

PHOTO: The CW

“We thought it was important to show that Cheryl does have genuine love and acceptance in her life from somebody in her family,”Aguirre-Sacasa added. “It’s good to balance that out with the nefarious actions of Penelope and Uncle Claudius. Nana Rose is definitely a ‘Choni’ shipper.” That being said, Aguirre-Sacasa did add we’re not done seeing the “inner horrors of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy,” so Cheryl may not be out of the woods just yet.

We’re also not out of the woods with the Black Hood. March 28’s episode implied that Arthur Adams (John Behlmann), one of Hiram Lodge’s (Mark Consuelos) goonies, is the masked madman who we thought was dead but is still wreaking havoc around town. Aguirre-Sacasa says we shouldn’t rule him—or anyone else—out, because the mystery isn’t over yet. “At this point, it’s safe to say that everyone is still a suspect,” he said. Yeesh.

Riverdale‘s musical episode airs Wednesday, April 18 at 8:00 P.M. ET on The CW.

There Are Two Typos On the State of the Union Ticket, So Let's All Give Up Now

We still have 24 hours before the big show, but it appears things are already off to an iffy start for President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address.

On Monday, photos of this year’s SOTU tickets began to surface on social media and showed they came with not one, but two embarrassing typos. Clear as day, on the blue and black tickets it invited guests to attend the “State of the Uniom” instead of Union.

“This will be the last year I go to a scalper for tickets to the ‘State of the Uniom,'” Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi joked on Twitter.

And while certainly funny, it sort of sucks to be working in the Office of the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper, as they are the ones who print and provide the tickets for spouses and guests of members of Congress. Now, they will have to reprint and reissue every ticket they gave out to ensure the right information is provided, according to CNN.

“Just received my ticket for the State of the Union. Looks like Betsy DeVos was in charge of spell checking,” Rep. Raul M. Grijalva, a Democrat from Arizona wrote in a tweet.

Even Republicans got in on the joke, with leaders like Sen. Marco Rubio tweeting about the error.

Though “Uniom” wasn’t the only error to be printed on the ticket. As Buzzfeed astutely pointed out, the ticket also refers to the “Visitor’s Gallery.” However, according to the Office of Art & Archives, it should read Visitors’ Gallery.

According to a Sergeant at Arms spokesperson, this is likely the first time State of the Union tickets have had to be reissued.

“Sometimes the colors and little details change and obviously the dates,” he told Buzzfeed. “But I don’t recall [the need to reprint due to an error] happening before.”

Tammy Duckworth Is About To Become the First Sitting Senator to Ever Give Birth

On Tuesday, Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Il) announced she’s expecting her second child, a baby girl, later this year. An important announcement in and of itself, it becomes even more so when you consider that Duckworth will now become the first sitting senator to give birth while in office.

Though really, this is just the sort of thing Duckworth is used to: she gave birth to her first daughter, Abigail, while serving in Congress, which made her just the 10th woman since the country’s founding to do so while in that office.

“[My husband] Bryan and I are thrilled that our family is getting a little bit bigger, and Abigail is ecstatic to welcome her baby sister home this spring,” Duckworth shared with reporters in a statement.

Having children, of course, isn’t the only barrier Duckworth has broken. As USA Today noted, she was also the first disabled female veteran to take a seat in the U.S. House when she won her race in 2016.

In a statement, Duckworth’s office noted how the pregnancy was important for not only Duckworth and her family, but also for the millions of working mothers around the nation, who are often paid less and offered fewer opportunities simply because they chose to also have a baby.

“Though millions of American women have become mothers while continuing their careers, Senator Duckworth is one of only 10 women since our nation’s founding who have given birth while serving in Congress,” the statement read. “Her experiences as a working mother give her an important — and underrepresented —perspective in the halls of Congress, where she has long advocated on behalf of working families.”

Duckworth’s announcement also came with heaping praise from her colleagues as well.

Sen. Dick Durbin from Illinois told the Chicago Sun-Times that he is “proud to have her as my Illinois colleague and prouder still that she will make history by being the first U.S. Senator to have a baby while in office. I couldn’t be happier for her.”

And behind her coworkers, men and women across the nation jumped on social media to congratulate Duckworth on this historic moment, with some even calling for her to run for the presidency in 2020.

And, to add to this extraordinary news, Duckworth wasn’t the only woman in a global leadership role to announce she is expecting a child this year. On Friday, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced she too is expecting. And when she shared the news she simultaneously shot down any haters who may come her way about being a mom and a politician at the same time.

“I am not the first woman to multitask. I am not the first woman to work and have a baby,” Ardern said. “We are going to make this work, and New Zealand is going to help us raise our first child.”

May we suggest Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s children’s book, I Dissent, as their first new-baby purchases?

Somebody Needs to Give Mandy Moore Her Own HGTV Show

I am well known in certain circles as the person who watches basically everything that’s on TV. While everyone else is cord-cutting, I’m the one with every cable channel and Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon. The television is quite literally always on in my apartment—even when I’m working from home. (Right now, for example, my WFH viewing choice is Suits, in honor of soon-to-be HRH Meghan Markle.) But it turns out my favorite “show” this season isn’t even on TV. It’s on Instagram Stories, and it stars Mandy Moore.

I’ve been a low-key Mandy stan since the days of “Candy,” so of course I was already following her on Instagram. I stuck around to see behind the scenes of This Is Us, and I’m always fascinated to watch as they “age” her in the makeup trailer. But then, many months ago, she started taking followers on mini-tours of the home she purchased in LA and was completely gut renovating. I was hooked from the first “episode” and have been binging ever since.

To say I’ve become deeply and emotionally invested in this project would be a massive understatement. We’ve (LOL, “we’ve”) come so far since the days of tearing out original structures, floors, and walls. Along the way, I’ve also started following her architect, Emily Farnham, and designer, Sarah Sherman Manuel. (Sidebar: I love that she’s got an all-female team spearheading the project.)

One of the things that grabbed me from the start is the mid-century of it all—which is my own personal style. Moore’s house was originally built in 1950 by a well-known architect at the time, Harold Zook, but during the ’90s someone made some seriously bad design decisions. Now, Moore and her crew have spent months demolishing, restoring some of the original flavor of the house. You can check out lots of before pics on Sherman Manuel’s blog, a place I’ve spent a lot of time this spring/summer/fall.

While I’ve been known to watch HGTV from time to time, I definitely don’t consider myself a junkie. There’s just something about this process, with this person that has me emotional knowing we’re nearing the end. Times are really turbulent right now and the future sometimes seems a bit bleak and unknown, but watching this project through to beautiful completion soothes me, especially as a reprieve from the garbage fire that is Twitter. It’s also always a happy surprise—you never know when Mandy is going to pop by the house to check in, and you can feel how excited she is about her new home. And then, of course, there’s the aspirational quality. I would die to be able to do what she’s doing—to create my dream house.

Some might be embarrassed to admit they’re this obsessed with a celebrity’s home project, but not me. Mandy herself even liked one of my tweets about it recently. When you’re open about your odd pop-culture proclivities, you usually find out you’re not alone—which is exactly what happened as friends came out as devotees to the IG Stories, too. Creative Director Elizabeth Spiridakis Olson calls it “every perfect Pinterest dream come true. I’m obsessed with the SSS cabinet fronts.”

Travel editor Jenna Mahoney agrees, “Every time I’m in a hotel my favorite thing to do is watch HGTV. (And as a travel editor, I spend a lot of time in hotels.) The renovations, the reveals, the ‘Hey, I could maybe, probably, totally do this—someday, anyway—in my future and amazing house’ keep me coming back for more. But what is so special about Mandy Moore’s reno is that it isn’t a 25-minute demo toward open concept. It is an artful, intricate experience that we get to experience in real time. She has a very approachable style and way about her in that we are totally friends and have loads in common way. And that is the same for the renovation project.”

Yes, yes, yes to all of that. Let’s just hope I don’t have a full breakdown when the house is finally finished. Maybe there will be a season two?
