Watch 'Stranger Things' Stars Joe Keery and Gaten Matarazzo Give Love Advice

Now that Stranger Things has officially been renewed for season three, it’s time to kick those fan theories into high gear—namely, anything having to do with Steve and Dustin. The duo charmed our hearts in ways we never expected, and that friendship extended off-screen as well between co-stars Joe Keery and Gaten Matarazzo. In person, they finish each other’s sentences in person and have in-depth conversations about almost everything. (For instance, thinking about changing your name to “Taco?” Yep, they have deep thoughts on that.) So when we had them come to our Glamour Los Angeles office to play a game of “Live Life Advice,” the two were more than ready to play therapist and reveal more about themselves in the process. Watch the video, above, and then read on for five amazing things we learned about Joe and Gaten.

1. Gaten knows the perfect ’80s love song. When a Twitter user asked the guys to recommend a really cool song to sing to her girlfriend, Gaten first offered up some early Justin Bieber, before randomly bursting out the lyrics to Foreigner’s 1984 hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Yes, Gaten stars on the ’80s-set Stranger Things, but since he’s only 15 years old that knowledge had to come from somewhere, right? “My parents!” Gaten says. “They always have it play on the radio, so that’s what we’d all listen to.” Note to Duffer Bros: If you guys don’t find a way to incorporate karaoke for Dustin in season three, it’ll be a lost opportunity for all of us.

2. Gaten and Joe Keery love talking about their hair. Dustin/Gaten and Steve/Joe both have an amazing head of hair, but you’ll be comforted to know that they talk about it as much as you hope they do. Take this exchange for example:

Joe: I’ve had so many bad haircuts.
Gaten: I had a horrific haircut. This guy gave me a mullet. It was honestly no business in the front, so I wore a lot of hats.
Joe: [So our advice to anyone who wants to know what to do about a bad haircut is] just don’t get a haircut. Or wear a hat.

After the cameras stopped rolling, Joe commented that Gaten just got a haircut and noted, “it’s already grown back so fast.” Gaten confirmed Joe’s timeline and said, “Yeah, I just got a haircut about a month ago, and it’s already growing back so fast.” Naturally, talk then turned to Joe’s hair (I mean, even co-star David Harbour’s Instagram account is dedicated to Joe and his hair), with Joe noting that “I gotta get a haircut soon.”

3. They agree on the three qualities most attractive in other people. As if we needed more proof why Joe and Gaten are national treasures, then consider this: When a Twitter user asked them about the most attractive thing about a girl, they answered in unison: “Sense of humor, intelligence, and kindness.” (Word of advice: If you want to really make them laugh, sneeze the loudest you ever have—as I did at the beginning of their video—and watch them lose it. True story.)

4. Gaten is wise beyond his years when it comes to dating etiquette. Whether Gaten has been on one date, no dates, or a bunch at this point, one thing is for sure: He knows what he’s talking about. When asked about how to be likable, Gaten had the perfect response: “Talk to people. Ask about their day.” And what about who should pay on a date? While Gaten admitted that’s something he would prefer to do, he noted that he was always taught “whoever asks the person on the date should be the person that pays.” Joe, meanwhile, could use some help. “I have no idea. I’ve never been on date.” (Suuuure, buddy.)

5. Joe is a Polaroid bandit. In our Glamour L.A. office, we have a photo wall with fun polaroids of everyone who comes in to visit. So before Joe and Gaten arrived, I placed the camera in a hidden spot in the green room (that way no one would start snapping pictures without asking first). Of course, somehow in the five minutes I stepped out of the room, Joe found the camera—and did just that. Good thing we didn’t run out of film for Gaten! But who could be upset with someone like Joe? He’s as nice as he seems and offers up these words of wisdom when a fan asks how to get over heartbreak: “You just gotta live your life and do it your way.” Keep doing you, Joe. Even if you’re using up all my film.

We Got Mindy Kaling to Give Us Her Take on the New iPhone X

The lore surrounding the upcoming iPhone X (out Friday, November 3) has officially reached a fever pitch—from mounting anxiety surrounding a demand that may reportedly outnumber supply to a much-debated new facial recognition feature (a James Bond–ian widget that lets your mug do the unlocking). But while most of us will have to wait until Friday (or longer) to get our hands on the tenth-anniversary iPhone, Mindy Kaling got to road-test one all weekend long. So we got her to give us her take on the glass-backed, wireless, face-enhancing, face-reading, face-contouring mega-phone.

“I usually don’t care about getting new versions of anything,” Kaling admitted. “When I get an update for my computer, I always click ‘remind me later’ until months go by and my computer starts smoking.”

Nevertheless, she tells Glamour the new iPhone is “so legit.” Here are five ways The Mindy Project star thinks the new phone will “upgrade you.”

1. Face ID

Of all the new features in the iPhone X, this one has gotten the most buzz. There’s no Touch ID (nor is there a home button, for that matter); instead, your face unlocks the phone. According to an Apple release, the “TrueDepth camera projects and analyzes more than 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth map of your face.” So you can use your face to do everything from unlocking your phone to using Apple Pay.

“Like a villain in a thrilling dystopian science fiction movie, my face is now my password,” reports Kaling. “Face ID works indoors, outdoors and in the dark, so when you have a 3:00 A.M. panic attack, you can be on your phone spiraling even sooner.”

2. Wireless Charging

Both the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X have glass backs, allowing—at last!—for wireless charging. “I can now charge my iPhone wirelessly by placing it on a little puck by my bed,” says Kaling. “This just looks cool.”

3. Portrait Lighting

Apple has seriously bumped up the camera on the iPhone X (as well as the iPhone 8, for that matter), including redesigned rear lenses with improved image stabilization—meaning crisper photos, even in low lighting. On the X, a new feature called Portrait Lighting builds on the previous “Portrait Mode” by offering the ability to adjust any portrait-style photos you may take with shadows, lighting effects, and more. In a nutshell, you’re going to waste a lot of time on this phone taking and editing selfies.

Kaling was officially impressed. “We all love Portrait mode, but this is insane,” she says. “I literally never have to wear makeup or shower ever again, my photos will always make me look like Priyanka Chopra.”

4. Water- and Dust-Resistant

This might seem like a no-brainer, but haven’t we all experienced some water “incident” that resulted feverish, poor decision making to attempt a rescue, like dropping an iPhone into a bag of rice? “I treat my phone basically like a coaster for diet sodas,” Kaling says, “so this is a must.”

5. Animojis

Aside from the Face ID, Animojis is probably the most-discussed new iPhone X feature. In addition to the TrueDepth camera allowing your face to unlock your phone, it also has the ability to animate your expressions in a series of emoji—from the panda to the unicorn to, yes, the poop emoji—dubbed “Animoji.” You can then send these as iMessages to your friends. If you think sending an Animoji of yourself to someone sounds dorky, Kaling disagrees: “Mark my words: Animojis are the future. Imagine how this could take the edge off of tough conversations! ‘Warren, I no longer love you, I’m leaving you’ sounds so much more palatable coming from an animated panda head!” OK, point made.

This Video of Young Girls Dancing To Beyoncé's 'Freedom' Will Give You Chills

PHOTO: Courtesy Project Everyone

There’s a lot to be mad about in the world today. (Think: Trump, Congress, Harvey Weinstein, the wage gap… you get the idea.) Which might be why this new video is really resonating with us.

Beyoncé lent her song “Freedom” to the #FreedomForGirls campaign just in time for the International Day of the Girl on Wednesday. It features fierce little girls, ages 5 through 11, singing along to the power anthem. And they. Are. Angry.

The #FreedomForGirls campaign is promoting the UN’s Global Goals, an ambitious set of objectives for what the world should look like by 2030. It’s a partnership between Project Everyone, UNICEF, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The video was directed by MJ Delaney.__

This is the second time Delaney has teamed up with Project Everyone to create a video promoting the Global Goals. Last year, she used the classic Spice Girls song “Wannabe” to ask girls what they really, really want. (Answer: equality.) But this year, Delaney decided to strike a very different tone. “Happy, smiley joy doesn’t really cut the mustard now,” she says. “A lot has happened globally, and I wanted to do something defiant and angry and demanding.”

Also, Delaney says, “I feel like the only place you can go after the Spice Girls is Beyoncé.”

So what are the girls mad about? Violence against girls (which kills a girl every 5 minutes), child marriage (1 in 4 girls is affected), trafficking (71 percent of victims are female), female genital mutilation (63 million girls have undergone it), access to education (130 million girls are out of school), and HIV/AIDS (girls are twice as likely to be infected). For starters.

The Global Goals can create a world free of all of that injustice by 2030. But the only way to get there is by pressuring world leaders into action, and inspiring individuals to make a difference in their own communities. “Hopefully, we can use the Global Goals to define this spirit of defiance and optimism and demanding that we all feel,” Delaney says. “Every single person in the world has the ability to change something.”

To take action, share the film with what #FreedomForGirls means to you. You can also visit the Global Goals website for more information on groups that are working toward gender equality around the world.

Democratic Senators Give Away Donations From Harvey Weinstein Over Harassment Allegations

Multiple Democratic senators have announced plans to give Harvey Weinstein’s campaign donations to charity following a New York Times investigation revealing that the Hollywood studio executive had reached eight settlements over the course of almost three decades with women who alleged he sexual harassed them .

According to Variety, the list of senators returning Weinstein’s political contributions began with Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who announced on Thursday plans to donate the $2,700 to the Women’s Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation. Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) Al Franken (D-MN), and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have since followed suit, disavowing Weinstein and diverting his contributions to nonprofit organizations advocating for women’s rights and victims of harassment and assault.

The Democratic National Committee, which received a reported $30,890 from Weinstein, has also pledged to donate the money to women’s organizations.

“The allegations… are deeply troubling,” the DNC said in a statement, according to the Daily Beast. “The Democratic Party condemns all forms of sexual harassment and assault.”

The DNC continued: “The DNC will donate over $30,000 in contributions from Weinstein to EMILY’s List, Emerge America and Higher Heights because what we need is more women in power, not men like Trump who continue to show us that they lack respect for more than half of America.”

Weinstein also donated to multiple Hillary Clinton campaigns between 1999 and 2016; as of this writing, she has yet to release a statement on Weinstein and whether she’ll go the way of her fellow Democrats. Between his own contributions and other fundraising efforts, Weinstein donated $679,275 for former President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. Like Clinton, Obama has so far remained silent on Weinstein.

Variety‘s report states that these contributions make up Weinstein’s 20 years’ worth of political spending, which amounts to “more than $1.4 million in total to federal candidates, parties, and political action committees since 1990.”

Weinstein’s deep ties to the party, however, extend beyond finances. Weinstein often acted as a kind of social liaison between Hollywood and D.C., arranging a meeting between former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Bradley Cooper in 2012, and bringing Malia Obama on as an intern at his company earlier this year.

These relationships have made the scandal surrounding Weinstein’s treatment of women an occasion for the Republican Party to turn the tables on politicians who decry the GOP’s anti-woman policies.

“During three-decades worth of sexual harassment allegations, Harvey Weinstein lined the pockets of Democrats to the tune of three-quarters of a million dollars,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said in the statement. “If Democrats and the [Democratic National Committee] truly stand up for women like they say they do, then returning this dirty money should be a no brainer.”

So far, for most Democrats, it has been.

Why Kim Kardashian and Kanye West No Longer Give Each Other Gifts

PHOTO: C Flanigan/FilmMagic/Getty Images

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are a low-key, no-frills couple. No, really: Despite the weeklong wedding celebration in May 2014 that took attendees from Versailles to Florence and millions of dollars’ worth of sparkly things they’ve gifted each other, the power couple says they actually value being “grounded and well rounded” much more than accumulating pricey material possessions.

In an interview accompanying her covershoot for the October 2017 issue of Allure, Kardashian West opened up about her and her husband’s newly tame approach to celebrating each other—which, hopefully, still allows for West to fill rooms with gorgeous white roses in honor of his wife. “I don’t like presents anymore,” she said. “We just did absolutely nothing [for our anniversary]. We spent two days in Santa Barbara, and we slept.” Kardashian West added, “You know what? I think we went to IHOP. That’s what we did.”

This zen-like philosophy—possibly stemming from the reality star’s traumatizing robbery at gunpoint in Paris last October—also extends to the couple’s children, 4-year-old daughter North and 21-month-old son Saint. “We don’t do gifts,” the 36-year-old said when asked whether she worries about her kids growing up spoiled. “[Kanye and I] talk about it all the time, about not getting too much and trying to be as grounded and well rounded as possible.”

This approach is clearly working for Kimye, who are expecting their third child, a daughter, via surrogate at the beginning of next year. During a visit to The View earlier this summer, Kardashian West gushed over her husband and their strong, supportive relationship. “We’re best friends, and I think that’s just what’s so important for us in our marriage,” she said. “I think we started off as friends for so many years and we were friends when we were in other relationships and were such a good support system for each other for so long. I think that really helped to be the basis of our relationship.”

Plus pancakes always help.
