L'Oréal Paris Bambi Eye Mascara Review With Photos

I’ve always been enchanted by huge, cartoonish eyes. After graduating from Disney princesses, I fixed my obsession on anime characters, whose colorful outfits and huge eyelashes equally spoke to me. Early on in high school, I idolized Zooey Deschanel and her wide-eyed look, and drew Twiggy lashes on my lower lash line when I went out at night.

I’ve since moved on to more sophisticated methods of enhancing my lashes in hopes of making my tiny eyes look like a cartoon. Lash extensions and lifts have been the most successful, but they’re expensive and time consuming, so finding a good mascara has been crucial. While I have some go-tos, I’d yet to find one that replicates the doll-eyed look of a lash lift.

Then the new L’Oréal Paris Bambi Eye Mascara came along, and I knew I had something to be excited about. For starters, L’Oréal makes some of my all-time favorite mascaras (at any price point), and anything that promises crazy volume and “a doe-eyed effect” has my attention. But, let’s be real here, obviously the real draw was the name. Bambi is the ultimate big-eye icon in my book. The fact that model Camille Rowe is heavily featured in the ads alongside Bambi himself just adds to my theory that this mascara was made specifically with me in mind.

Adorable branding aside, where this mascara truly stands out is the brush, which has a mix of long and short bristles to grab every lash. It’s on the spiky-plasticy side, which is great for shorter lashes like mine, yet has some heft to it to help with volume.

The first time I tested it out, I was ridiculously sick—I more closely resembled the Corpse Bride than my usual self. But after one swipe of the stuff (singing the Bambi eyes line from “This Is What Makes Us Girls” to myself, naturally), I was wowed. I looked wide awake, and all the life instantly came back to my face. It fanned out my lashes so they were super fluttery, and the brush made it seem like I have double the lashes I actually do. My lashes were instantly lifted and crazy curled (no lash curler needed!), giving me the doll-y eyes of my dreams in seconds. Essentially, it gave me the same effect as my beloved lash lift, without the trip to the salon. In short, I’m obsessed.

Look at that curl.

If you’re looking for a natural look, this might not be the best choice for you, although it doesn’t clump no matter how many layers I apply. It just definitely looks like you have mascara on, a look I personally love. But despite the crazy volume I didn’t sacrifice any definition, and the inky black formula stays on all day without any flaking or smudging.

It didn’t turn me into a cartoon character, but it came pretty damn close.

Watch Taylor Swift Cry Over a Banana After Getting Lasik Eye Surgery

Taylor Swift got quite the hilarious surprise during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night. The singer was there to promote her appearance this weekend on Saturday Night Live (alongside host, Fleabag star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge), but it seems Fallon and her mom, Andrea, were in cahoots ahead of the show.

Turns out that Swift recently underwent Lasik eye surgery to correct her vision, and she certainly seemed surprised when Fallon asked her if she had the procedure. “I did,” she said. “How did you know that?” As the host goes on to inquire about whether they gave her pain pills or laughing gas, she replies, “They definitely give you some pretty hardcore pills after you have a laser in your eye. What is going on?”

Then Fallon reveals that Swift’s mom filmed her while she was drugged up post-surgery—and sent him the video. And it’s pretty amazing. We get to see the singer (in post-surgical goggles) trying to find a snack and then freaking out over a banana. As she removes one from the bunch, she’s super bummed out. “That wasn’t the one I wanted,” she says, as her mom tells her she can’t cry and helps her get the exact banana she wants. But now, what to do with the other banana that Swift says “doesn’t have a head”—basically it’s open at the top.

She then crawls into bed to enjoy her snack. When her mom warns her not to fall asleep eating, she hilariously says, “I’m not asleep, my mind is alive!”

Watch for yourself below:

It’s pretty great to see a totally unfiltered Swift join the internet tradition of loopy people after medical procedures a la “David at Dentist.” Even a superstar’s mom is not above embarrassing her in front of the world. “That’s on television,” Swift tells Fallon. “She was kind enough to drive me there but cruel enough to film it and give it to you!” She then muses about how far this video will go online, citing the #DrunkTaylor meme from the summer.

We’re just hoping Andrea Swift has more videos saved on her phone that she’ll choose to share with the rest of us.

The Best Eyeliner Stencil – L'Oréal's Flash Cat Eye Liquid Liner Review

Just like a classic white shirt and little black dress, there are some things in beauty that will never go out of style—red lipstick, clean skin, defined brows. But perhaps the most timeless of all is the cat eye. I mean, it literally dates back to the ancient Egyptians and also has strong roots in Old Hollywood. Winged liner is flattering on nearly everyone. It draws attention to and elongates your eyes, and the vintage connotations adds instant cool to any look.

There’s a definite learning curve to mastering it, though, which makes it both the most loved and feared style of makeup—hence the slews of eyeliner stencils and stamps on the market. Most of these guides are pure gimmicks; they’re too bulky, stiff, or high-maintenance to actually streamline the process. Still, whenever one hits the market, I’m tempted to put it to the test, hopeful that this one will be the one that changes the game.

Enter the L’Oreal Flash Cat Eye liner, the newest addition to my collection of stencils. The $8 liner pen has a brush tip, and comes with a small stencil that slides right into the cap. The guide itself is a triangle with a single-size cutout for a wing, or you can use the other flat sides to create a straight line, as you would with the Pinterest-famous tape trick. What’s most appealing about it (aside from the price), is that it’s so compact. Most guides add an extra piece into your routine, but with this one, everything you need is right there.

Despite all that, I had my doubts. I’ve been burned by eyeliner stencils too many times before. I challenged my fellow Glamour editors, from cat eye queens to newbies, to put it to the test. Read on for our honest thoughts.

Queer Eye Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

If seeing the Fab 5 in Taylor Swift’s latest music video made you realize just how much you miss them, Netflix has the best news: There is more Queer Eye on the horizon.

The show’s Twitter page shared a short video clip on Tuesday, June 18, letting the world know that the makeover mavericks will be back for season four on July 19. “Have you missed us? (We missed you too.) We’re back in Kansas City for Season 4, July 19,” the tweet reads.

And, as if that weren’t enough, Variety reports that the Emmy-nominated series didn’t get renewed for just one more season: All the guys are actually going to begin production on season five next week, and it’ll have a release date some time in 2020. This means Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Tan France, and Jonathan Van Ness will be with us for a good long while.

Here’s everything we know so far about Queer Eye season four.

The show will take place in Missouri again. Last season was shot in Kansas City and other surrounding areas of Missouri. It looks like season four is going to explore that area a little longer, as the new episodes are all slated to take place there.

Before season three, the Kansas City mayor encouraged people to nominate nearby residents in need of a makeover. The city also put up billboards calling for nominations.

All five guys are coming back. We would riot in the streets if there were any changes to the cast. Luckily, according to the short clip the show posted on Twitter, all five members are featured in the latest season.

This Easy Eyeliner Trick Finally Helped Me Nail a Smoky Eye

I’m good at many things. I’m an excellent gift giver, strong listener, and my brain is a storage unit for obscure Lana Del Rey trivia. Among my many gifts, however, is not the ability to do a smoky eye. I could do a winged liner in my sleep, but I’ve never been able to get the hang of a perfectly smudged and smoldering shadow, that somehow manages to look like you just rolled out of bed after a night of partying, yet put a huge amount of effort into looking glamorous and mysterious—my ideal look. Many of my personal beauty icons have made a smoky liner part of their signature look (Kate Moss and both Olsen twins to name a few), but despite years of trying, I’ve never been able to get it down.

My smoky eye FOMO was only amplified while covering backstage at New York Fashion Week. At nearly every show, I was greeted with smoky eye after smoky eye. It’s like the makeup artists were mocking me and my lack of blending skills. Now, smoky eyeshadow is nothing new, especially at fall shows, but paired with incredibly dewy skin and model bone structure, it reignited my desire to look like a rebellious Jenny Humphrey.

The stars must have aligned, because I attended a master class with makeup artist Diane Kendal to break down the Tom Ford makeup look, and she dropped a tip that rocked my world. It was like the clouds parted, and I suddenly had all the answers.

To create a lush, textured smoky eye (mine always look too flat and heavy), Kendall suggests starting with a cream liner to create a base, and then going in with eyeshadow. This is pretty standard advice that hadn’t helped me so far, but what comes next changed everything for me. She then says to line your eyes with a black liquid liner, and then to go back over it with a brown pencil. This creates dimension, and also helps to smudge it all out. Plus, for a liquid liner addict like me, it still gives me the definition I love, plus the smoke I crave.

Ever since adopting this tip, my confidence in my smoking skills has all but skyrocketed. I’ve swapped my normal going out look of an exaggerated eyeliner for a sultry smoke. Let me break it all down for you, below.

Gigi Hadid at the Tom Ford fall 2019 show

Step 1: Lay down the base
Create the base for the shadow with a pencil. Kendal used Tom Ford Eye Kohl Intense, but I’ve been alternating between the Charlotte Tilbury Color Chameleon Eye Pencil and MAC Teddy Eye Kohl. Trace it along your upper and lower lashes, as well as into the crease, to create the shape and help the shadow stick.

Step 2: Sweep on eyeshadow
At the Tom Ford show models wore cool toned shadow, but I’ve been using bronze to make my eyes pop—plus, I like more of a softer look. Using a deep matte shade, go over where you laid down the liner, and then add a lighter shade with a little sheen in the middle of your eye. Try to keep the shape rounder instead of a cat eye shape, and blend the edges so they look a little hazy.

Step 3: Add liquid liner
Add definition with a liquid liner on top and bottom, staying as close to your lashes as possible (I love the Tom Ford liquid liner pen for this). You don’t really want to see the liner, it’s just there to add depth. A wing is not the look, but it’s OK to extend the line a little past your eye.
