Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara Review


I have a very distinct memory of glueing my eye shut in an attempt to apply false eyelashes. I was probably 12 or 13, and it was Halloween. While I can’t remember exactly what I was dressing up as, I do remember the burn from the lash glue and the seconds of terror that I would never be able to pry my eye open again and would be blinded forever.

Since then, I’ve sworn off fake eyelashes, and only have them applied by makeup artists for special occasions. But I’ve always loved the drama huge fluffy lashes bring. While I’ve tried everything from lash extensions to eyelash lifts, I’ve made mascara my bread and butter in bringing some life to my tiny lashes. I love all mascaras at every price point, but I’m particularly interested in those that promise a false lash effect.

Recently, I was captivated by a somewhat viral Facebook video of a woman applying coats of mascara to her blonde lashes, only to have them instantly double in size. Every time she blinks into the brush, her lashes get longer and darker, without getting clumpy. I have never clicked on a product link so fast. When I saw it was called Liquid Lash Extensions, I was already sold, but then my eyes flickered over to the numbers: 7,569 reviews with 6,005 (and counting) of them being five stars. Talk about marketing at its finest.

Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions is a fiber mascara, so it uses liquid fibers to build up your lashes. The formula contains orchid stem cell complex to encourage lash growth, and Japanese pepper extract to condition. It has a tapered spiky brush with tons of little bristles to grab each lash. Although I found the formula rather wet, it didn’t glop or clump up, and has a nice glossy shine.

My results were not as dramatic as the video (sigh), but I was still totally impressed. It really separates my lashes, making it appear that I’m blessed with more than I actually have. I wouldn’t say it doubled my lashes in length, but it definitely got close. It’s super inky black, and doesn’t flake or smudge all day, but when you want to take it off it comes off in seconds with warm water. My only gripe is it doesn’t give as much volume as I prefer, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.

The Best Eyeliner Stencil – L'Oréal's Flash Cat Eye Liquid Liner Review


Just like a classic white shirt and little black dress, there are some things in beauty that will never go out of style—red lipstick, clean skin, defined brows. But perhaps the most timeless of all is the cat eye. I mean, it literally dates back to the ancient Egyptians and also has strong roots in Old Hollywood. Winged liner is flattering on nearly everyone. It draws attention to and elongates your eyes, and the vintage connotations adds instant cool to any look.

There’s a definite learning curve to mastering it, though, which makes it both the most loved and feared style of makeup—hence the slews of eyeliner stencils and stamps on the market. Most of these guides are pure gimmicks; they’re too bulky, stiff, or high-maintenance to actually streamline the process. Still, whenever one hits the market, I’m tempted to put it to the test, hopeful that this one will be the one that changes the game.

Enter the L’Oreal Flash Cat Eye liner, the newest addition to my collection of stencils. The $8 liner pen has a brush tip, and comes with a small stencil that slides right into the cap. The guide itself is a triangle with a single-size cutout for a wing, or you can use the other flat sides to create a straight line, as you would with the Pinterest-famous tape trick. What’s most appealing about it (aside from the price), is that it’s so compact. Most guides add an extra piece into your routine, but with this one, everything you need is right there.

Despite all that, I had my doubts. I’ve been burned by eyeliner stencils too many times before. I challenged my fellow Glamour editors, from cat eye queens to newbies, to put it to the test. Read on for our honest thoughts.

Farsáli Liquid Glass Serum Is the Easiest Way to Get Glowing 'Glass Skin'


Farsáli is not a brand that’s particularly known for subtlety. You’ve likely seen their creations all over Instagram, dripping off hot pink Beautyblenders or lending their hypnotic sparkle to macro product shots. When the company famous for launching the aptly named Unicorn Essence came out with something called Liquid Glass serum, I had high expectations.

Liquid Glass is Farsáli’s interpretation of “glass skin”, which refers to the reflective, luminous, almost translucent complexion that’s the end goal of the 10-step Korean beauty routine. Founder Sal Ali used that as his initial inspiration, but wanted a single bottle that could replicate those effects. The result is another of Farsáli’s signature skin care-makeup hybrids—a formula designed to deeply moisturize your face while also imparting a mirror-like glow. The ingredients list reads like a how-to guide for retaining hydration: hyaluronic acid, plus watermelon rind, apple, and lentil fruit extracts.

In the bottle, though, that’s not what you’ll notice first. The $54 serum comes in the brand’s frosted glass vial, which includes a dropper for application. Even before you open it, you’ll see that what’s inside is extremely shimmery. The base is a silvery white hue, shot through with iridescent flecks of blue, pink, and purple. It’s colorful. It’s fun to swirl around. It’s also not exactly glassy, more the kind of thing that makes you think, “I’m going to be a disco ball after I use this.”

I can’t quite explain the mystery that happens between the product leaving the dropper and settling on my face, but somehow, that iridescence transforms as I pat it in. It doesn’t have the noticeably shimmery finish of similar liquid illuminators, nor does it impart the slick sheen of Vaseline or glass highlighter. Instead, it perceptibly plumps and refreshes my skin, giving it the illusion that it’s full of good health and radiating from within. It doesn’t matter if I haven’t slept in two days (which may or may not have happened in the photos below); a few drops later and you can’t even tell.

Ali tells me that that you can layer this on over moisturizer, mix it with your makeup and skin care, or try it as a topcoat on eyelids, lips, and cheekbones. I don’t care to wear foundation on a daily basis, so I simply dispense a tiny amount on my palms after applying my serums and creams and pat it on. If I’m especially sleep-deprived, I’ll apply a thin second coat on the high planes of my face as a highlighter substitute—I say highlighter, but really, it’s much subtler than that. Instead of a sheen or shimmer, it gives the impression that you just emerged from a full-service spa treatment before going to bed early. I rarely do either of those things, but at least now I look like I do.

The one thing Liquid Glass doesn’t quite accomplish is replacing my multistep routine. While I can appreciate the hydrating formula and lightweight feel, a small amount of this isn’t going to do away with my sleep masks, acid peels, toners, serums, essences, day creams, night creams, and SPFs anytime soon. But that’s okay—I like my daily skin care ritual to include 10 different products. Well, I guess now it’s 11.

This Revlon Liquid Eyeliner Gives Me the Perfect Wing in Seconds


I have a love-hate relationship with liquid eyeliner. It hovers closer to love given that I’ve been proudly wearing a cat-eye nearly every day since middle school, and the only way to achieve a dark line and sharp wing is with a liquid. A wing has become my signature, I love the way it frames my small eyes, and the look gives a vintage flair to whatever I’m wearing. I also love that it makes me feel done when I’m just wearing a T-shirt or all my foundation inevitably wears off. It at least looks like I put in some effort that morning.

The hate part of our relationship simply comes down to one small fact: Liquid liner is a bitch to work with. You’d think after almost 10 years of daily use I’d have a better handle on it, but you’d be so, so wrong. Liquid liner is inky black and precise, yes, but it is also messy, flaky, runny, and has a mind of its own. The darkness of the ink actually works against you, while a pencil or gel can be coaxed into an even wing with a Q-tip, liquid must be drawn on exactly where you want it or things can (and will) fall apart.

My biggest gripe with applying my daily wing is how long it takes me to get ready. As someone who naturally is always behind schedule, it’s crucial my makeup routine is as quick as possible. I generally have my eyes down in less than five minutes total (that’s lining both eyes, cleaning mistakes, and applying mascara), but there are those days when the Liner Gods are just not on my side and it can take me up to 15 minutes to get my wings looking remotely like wings. Some days they just look like blobby lines, usually on a day when I’m running late and I just have to deal with it.

I’ve tried my fair share of liners, and have a few favorites at both high and low price points, but I’m always game for finding another champion. I generally steer clear of liners designed to help specifically with wings as I find them gimmicky, but the Revlon ColorStay Wing Line is the exception.

The ColorStay liner is a fairly standard looking pen liner with a felt tip applicator. The key difference is instead of the usual pointed tip applicator, this one has a slanted, chiseled tip. The slant allows you to create both thin and thick lines depending on how you hold it, and can help you get closer to the lash line.

The first time I used the liner I attempted to use the angle as a stamp, thinking it would make a great base as a wing, and I was very, very wrong. All that did was make a mess. Instead, I find it easiest to start from the inner corner of my eye with the liner horizontally against my eye. With the smaller end towards the inner corner of my eye, I then drag it out to create the line, and angle it up to make the wing. The is the opposite of how I usually do my liner (I generally start with the wing and then connect it), so I’m surprised this felt so intuitive.

The liner itself is really nice, too. It applies smoothly and is an opaque black. It doesn’t bleed or bunch up when applied in the same area. I also had no issues with it flaking or running throughout the day, despite the crazy polar vortex wind and my sensitive eyes.

Tom Ford's $58 Liquid Eyeliner Is Absolutely Worth the Money


No hate on Dry January, but why does the New Year have to be all about self-deprivation? After months of spending our time, energy, and money on everyone else, we’re ready to treat ourselves. Welcome to our series To Me, From Me.

I’ve always been a sucker for eyeliner. When I first started wearing makeup, I didn’t get the memo on any other eye products. Mascara? Can’t tell a difference. Eyelash curler? Torture device designed for ants. Eyeshadow? Too complicated.

I got everything I wanted out of eyeliner, like easy definition, a little drama, and a whole lot of look. By high school, my signature makeup was a 10-minute application of the following: emerald-green liquid liner from the inner corners to the center, blue liquid liner from the center to a slight wing, and a healthy sweep of silver glitter liner over both. It looked great with my Catholic school uniform. (In my defense, this was 2004, the same year Britney Spears released Toxic—so, really, I’m just a product of my environment.)

Now, as an adult, I know better. So while I’ll still mess with a cobalt wing, my daily go-to is black liquid liner—specifically, Tom Ford’s Eye Defining Pen. If I ever have to testify for anything, they’d have to swear me into the proceedings with my right hand on this thing. It’s a dual-ended liquid liner; one end has a shorter, finer stroke, like a calligraphy pen, while the other is a longer brush. I use both ends indiscriminately (whichever cap I happen to pop off first) and the result is always good.

First, it deposits so much ink that there’s never any skipping or uneven spots that force you to double up on applications. And the pigment itself dries down to this rich, satin-y black that looks luxurious and won’t budge, even if your eyelids are oily (a real thing, folks). The color is so impactful that with a single sweep, you don’t need any other eye makeup. To be fair: It is high-maintenance, since it’s so pigmented that you have to wait a few seconds for it to dry before blinking. But hey, so am I.

What I used to achieve in three separate liners, I can now get in one. It makes all the difference between looking like I just woke up and looking like I’ve been awake for hours and, in that time, have gone for a run, showered, and enjoyed a breakfast date with my husband, Dev Patel. It makes me look and feel…ready. For the day. For anything.

And the best part? That $58 isn’t going to waste, because this won’t dry out for years. (Years!) I’ve been using the same pen since 2014, and only now is the ink starting to look half-hearted. And when I can’t get any more out of it? No sweat: I’ll put all the money I’m not spending on other makeup towards it. For me, it’s a worthy tradeoff.

Watch 50 Women Try Cat-Eye Makeup with Liquid Liner


Ever wonder how other people manage to get their flawless—okay, and maybe not so flawless—makeup on in the morning? We did, too.
