This Bride Went Off on Her Bridesmaid for Getting a Pixie Cut Before Her Big Day

We get it, it’s your wedding day. You’ve planned it, you’ve paid for it, and almost everything should be to your liking (operative word almost). One thing you might not have control over is what your bridesmaids decide to do to their appearance before your wedding—like getting a haircut. And one bride just learned that wedding truth the hard way.

A soon-to-be bridesmaid asked Reddit’s Am I the A**hole thread if she was in the wrong for cutting her long hair before her sister-in-law’s wedding. “I’ve been growing my hair for years and got tired of it. Yesterday, I went from hair down past my butt and had it cut into a short cut, like a pixie,” the original poster wrote.

She even went on to share the sweet reason why she decided to cut it all off. “I cut so much of it because I donated to an organization called Wigs for Kids; they make wigs for free for children with cancer and alopecia,” she explained. “Overall, I donated 48 inches of hair. I absolutely love it, the hair stylist said it was perfect for my face shape, my fiancé loves it, it’s been such a confidence booster.”

Earlier in the post, the bridesmaid explained that her sister-in-law is getting married in June and that she is planning a big wedding. She admitted that the bride has been very kind, but rightfully picky—until this point.

“I posted a picture on Instagram today along with a picture of the bundles of hair I sent off to donate,” she wrote. “I later get a text from her saying I should have asked before I cut all that hair off as she doesn’t think it’ll match her extremely feminine designs/decorations, I’m in her wedding party and now will stand out from her and the other girls (they all have long hair too), and wishes I had waited just a month to cut it.”

The bridesmaid, who was well within her right to cut her own hair, was truly stuck on how to respond. She explained in her now-viral post it was the first wedding she would be in and didn’t know if this sort of thing was normal. “Should I have asked her before making such a dramatic physical appearance change?” she posed to the group.

“It’s your hair and you did an amazing thing with it, don’t be made to feel bad for it,” one commenter responded.

Another sent a PSA to brides everywhere about what really matters when it comes to picking your bridesmaids: “I don’t understand the bridezilla impulse to try to control your wedding party’s appearance, but you should be asking people to be in the wedding party because they’re important to you, not because they’re aesthetically pleasing.” Preach.

While most of the 300-plus comments agreed that the bridesmaid was not in the wrong, a few sympathized with where the bride was coming from. “I don’t think you did anything wrong, and it’s your body, your choice, but I can understand her feelings too,” someone wrote. “As you said it’s a big wedding, and she is under pressure and probably have a lot of expectations. I totally understand that it’s a pretty ridiculous thing to be pissed off by, but if she had a really precise view of what she wanted, she might feel betrayed, especially if her wedding is next month.”

Ultimately the bride and bridesmaid worked it out. The bridesmaid made an update to her original post with the good news.

Sephora Cut Ties With Olivia Jade Amid the College Admissions Scandal

One of the people embroiled in the recent college admissions scandal is Olivia Jade Giannulli, beauty influencer and daughter of Lori Loughlin. As her mother faces federal charges, Olivia Jade is also dealing with the fallout, as brands like Sephora have decided to end their partnerships with her.

Back in December 2018, Olivia Jade had released the six-color Olivia Jade x Sephora Collection Bronze & Illuminate Palette, which retailed for $28. However, early on Thursday, the palette was no longer available online. Sephora later issued a statement explaining that it was no longer working with the celebrity offspring. “After careful review of recent developments, we have made the decision to end the Sephora Collection partnership with Olivia Jade, effective immediately,” the statement read.

Sephora’s decision comes after Olivia Jade’s social media accounts had been flooded with angry comments. Many people said that the college admissions scheme showed the way in which she and her family abused their privileges, and they urged the beauty retailer to drop her.

According to Buzzfeed News, Olivia Jade’s other partnerships include Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Clinique, Too Faced Cosmetics, Amazon, Dolce & Gabbana, Lulus, Marc Jacobs Beauty, among many others. She had also teamed up with the printing company HP, which distanced itself from both her and Loughlin yesterday.

“HP worked with Lori Loughlin and Olivia Jade in 2017 for a one-time product campaign. HP has removed the content from its properties,” the company wrote in a statement.

Meanwhile, Loughlin—best known for her role as Aunt Becky on Full House—turned herself into federal authorities this week and appeared in court on Wednesday. She was released after posting $1 million in bail. Loughlin is accused of spending approximately $500,000 in bribes to get both of her daughters into the University of Southern California, where Olivia Jade is a freshman. On Thursday, the Hallmark Channel said it was cutting ties with Loughlin. She’s been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, according to the BBC.

Meghan Markle Has Cut Back on Her Royal Tour Appearances

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex embarked on her first royal tour with her husband, touching down in Australia for a PDA-filled schedule full of public outings, engagements, and events. The tour, which comes on the heels of Meghan and Prince Harry’s recent announcement that the couple are expecting, has been pretty full-on (to say the least)—so Markle’s decided to reduce some of her commitments. (Hey, even duchesses need self-care.)

According to the Daily Mirror‘s Russel Myers, the Duchess has chosen to “cut back” on her public appearances, taking some time to rest. “After a busy program, The Duke and Duchess have decided to cut back The Duchess’s schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week and a half of the tour,” he tweeted.

Initially, Meghan had been scheduled to appear in Sydney on Sunday morning alongside Prince Harry to present medals at the Invictus Games. Instead, she made the decision to stay home, allowing herself a break ahead of the next leg of her royal tour.

Hello!‘s Emily Nash also reported that she learned the Duchess was “feeling fine but resting,” and that she is “just trying to pace” herself.

On Friday, Meghan gave her first pregnancy update, explaining that pregnancy felt a lot “like having jet lag,” a discomfort Meghan has tried to combat on her royal tour through early morning yoga.

Since landing in Australia, Meghan and Prince Harry’s full calendar has included everything from opening the Anzac Memorial for fallen veterans, stepping out on Bondi Beach and cheering on the teams at the Invictus Games.

During Sunday morning’s medal ceremony, Harry confirmed his wife was doing well but simply “resting back at home.”

“Being pregnant takes its toll,” he went on.

According to People, Meghan is reportedly still planning to make other scheduled appearances—and she made it back out on Sunday afternoon to hang with kids at a reception hosted by Australia’s Prime Minister.

There’s no shame in speaking up when things get to be a little much, especially when you’re not feeling well (and/or are pregnant!). Props to Markle for stepping out of a busy schedule to take the time to feel better. Now, back to her incredible tour outfits

This Valedictorian's Mic Got Cut Off When She Brought Up Sexual Assault—but She Still Got Her Point Across

Last week, 17-year-old Lulabel Seitz made a speech to graduates at Petaluma High School in Petaluma, California, where she was the class valedictorian. She told them how proud they should be of their achievements and ability to get through tough times on campus, but when she broached the subject of sexual assault, her mic was cut off.

“We are not too young to speak up, to dream and to create change, which is why even when some people on this campus, those some people — “ Seitz said just as the mic went silent. Seitz looked around, perplexed, as her classmates quickly began to shout, “Let her speak!” But the mic didn’t come back on. Although Seitz eventually took her seat and didn’t finish, she went on YouTube later and posted what she would have said if she’d been allowed to continue: “And even learning on a campus in which some people defend perpetrators of sexual assault, and silence their victims, we didn’t let that drag us down,” she says in the video.

“The Petaluma High School administration infringed on my freedom of speech, and prevented a whole graduating class from having their message delivered,” Seitz writes in the caption of her YouTube video. “For weeks, they have threatened me against ‘speaking against them’ in my speech. Sometimes we know what’s right and have to do it despite the threats.”

Seitz told ABC News that administrators had specifically told to her to steer clear of the topic during her speech. However, she felt compelled to speak up, particularly because sexual assault is something personal to her. She said one of the incidents she was referencing in her speech was her own, after a student allegedly assaulted her on school grounds, reported ABC News. She claims that administrators didn’t suspend or expel the student, but she later reported the incident to police and the student was arrested.

“They made all these rules to prevent me from speaking,” Seitz said. “So I decided to use the opportunity to bring it up.”

Seitz added that she was even pulled out of her last class in high school to “make sure she got the message.”

“They told me to be quiet, told me I can’t talk about it,” she told ABC. “I realized that this is a big injustice and needs to be spoken about.”

In an initial statement to the San Francisco Chronicle, school officials said they could not comment due to student privacy issues. However, the high school’s principal David Stirrat told the Washington Post by email that students had to have their speeches approved ahead of time, and they had been told the microphone would be cut off if they went off script.

“In Lulabel’s case, her approved speech didn’t include any reference to an assault,” he said. “We certainly would have considered such an addition, provided no individuals were named or defamed.”

Still, many people felt Seitz had been unfairly censored and that she should have been allowed to make her point about sexual assault. Her video has now been viewed more than 300,000 times and there has been an outpouring of support for her on social media. Former Texas state senator Wendy Davis tweeted, “‘Let her speak …’ – often a necessary refrain when women speak truth to power. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing a good deal more from Lulabel Seitz as the future unfolds for this extraordinary young woman. #letherspeak.”

Actress Mia Sorvino, who has been a vocal force in the #MeToo movement, also took to Twitter to say, “Lulabel Seitz is a fierce truth teller and they tried to silence her- don’t you understand sexual assault victims will be silenced no more???? High school valedictorian says speech was cut off when she began to talk about sexual assault.”

Lauren Conrad Just Cut Her Hair Even Shorter, and It Looks So Chic

When Lauren Conrad went short last month, we were honestly pretty surprised. While she and her hairstylist and friend Kristin Ess are constantly snapping Instas together, Conrad’s had her long, wavy layers for so long it seemed like she’d found her signature style and was sticking to it. But as we’ve all seen with Selena Gomez and Rihanna, once celebrities get on the hair-change train, they’re usually down to keep it going. For Gomez, that meant bangs; for LC, after trading in her layers for a lob, she popped up today with an even shorter, super-blunt cut. And because Conrad’s style has aged like fine wine, of course it’s beautiful.

It’s crazy what a difference a cut makes, because where Conrad’s piecey lob was pure cool girl, her new, chin-length look is cutting-edge chic—and when so many celebrities show up with the same blunt style, you know it’s going to be everywhere soon. The reasons to love it are many. The one-length ends are super flattering, especially on straggly, frayed hair, since the look means that dry ends are just going to add more texture. If you ombréed your ends (like Jenna Dewan Tatum) and want to move on, it’s also the easiest way out, because they’ll be off in a second.

And speaking of JDT, it looks like Ess and LC took a similar route in styling, coming out with a deep side part and tons of volume at Conrad’s roots. Ess is the mastermind behind Dewan Tatum’s cut as well, so the similarity makes sense. The difference is Conrad has highlights, and they look even cooler on her short cut. The blond tips left over from her gradual ombré stand out against her darker blond strands, which creates that awesome, dimensional effect. While the trend is to normally stick with long hair for the winter—it’s like a scarf you carry everywhere—with so many good bobs in the world right now, it’s looking more appealing by the minute.

Katie Holmes Just Debuted a Brand-New Pixie Cut

For someone who’s been in the public eye since Dawson’s Creek aired, Katie Holmes has kept her look remarkably constant. Some things in this world are just reliable: Bella Thorne will (probably) keep mixing her style up until the end of time, and Katie Holmes will continue looking great in stripes and jeans. She knows herself, and power to her—especially because, out of nowhere, she just cut all her hair off and got a brand-new pixie. Now that is a knowing yourself move.

The first photos of her new cut come to us from the airport, as Holmes was arriving in New York. You know if something looks good under those lights, it’s going to be spectacular everywhere else. She quickly covered her new hair under her black hat, but from the glance we got, it looks like a long pixie. So unlike Cara Delevingne’s equally shorn-all-around style, Holmes still has some length to work with. But this isn’t Holmes’ first time in the pixie ring: She went just as short back in 2008 and looked like the dictionary definition of gamine. Clearly, she and her stylists know what they’re doing.

Over on Twitter, people have picked up on the resemblance between Holmes’ cut and Kris Jenner’s. The tweets are, clearly, golden.

Holmes isn’t the only one to jump on this trend; pixies are popping up on celebrities more than ever. This year alone we’ve seen Kate Hudson, Katy Perry, and both Kendall and Kylie Jenner try going short (temporarily and less so). The proof is in the Pinterest: According to the platform, searches for asymmetrical pixies are up more than 120 percent so far this year. Thanks to Holmes, that’s probably not going to change anytime soon.
