Super Bowl Commercials 2020: The Best Celebrity Appearances

Check back here for all the updates on Super Bowl commercials 2020.

Non-sports lovers have a few things to look forward to with this year’s Super Bowl. Demi Lovato is singing the national anthem. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be doing the halftime show. So basically, we’re talking about a full pop concert with some football happening in between.

And as always, we have commercials. The Super Bowl commercials are consistently a cut above what you see during regular prime-time programming: They’re usually funnier, more clever and/or tear-jerking, and packed with celebrity cameos. This year is no exception. But if you’re not watching the big game, it’s all good: We have a roundup of all the pop culture-y Super Bowl commercials worth watching.

Without further ado, let’s go through the best celebrity appearances from Super Bowl commercials 2020:

Olay

Taraji P. Henson, Busy Philipps, Lily Singh, Katie Couric, and actual astronaut Nicole Stott star in this spot for the skin-care brand. The commercial’s hashtag, #MakeSpaceForWomen, clearly has a double meaning. We can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.

Pop-Tarts

“Time for this snack to get a snack,” Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness says in this spot for Pop-Tarts. The only problem? All the available food options aren’t up to JVN’s standards. Looks like a certain frosted pastry giant will have to come in and fix the problem….

Avocados From Mexico

I never thought I needed to see Molly Ringwald put a crown on an avocado until I watched this commercial. Avocados from Mexico has a storied history of featuring celebrities in its Super Bowl commercials. Last year’s featured Broadway icon Kristin Chenoweth. A true legends-only club.

Sabra Hummus

Real Housewives of New Jersey rivals Teresa Giudice and Caroline Manzo star in this new spot from Sabra, which has them in glamorous red gowns, eating hummus and talking in surprisingly hushed tones. No table flipping? No yelling? No one-liners? The extended commercial will certainly include something dramatic, right?

Squarespace

Winona Ryder returns to her hometown of Winona, Minnesota, in this spot for the website-building company. The premise is simple but cute: Ryder is building a website next to the Winona, Minnesota, sign when a cop stops by and asks what she’s doing. Watch on to see what happens.

Michelob Ultra

John Cena and Jimmy Fallon go on a kooky fitness journey in this new ad for Michelob Ultra. This is a relatable commercial: Working out next to the living hulk that is John Cena indeed would require beer afterwards.

Hyundai Sonata

John Krasinski, Rachel Dratch, and Chris Evans put on some over-the-top Boston accents in this cheeky commercial about the Hyundai Sonata, which features new technology that lets the car park itself. All three actors were actually born in Boston—and Fallon and Dratch immortalized the accent with their recurring SNL sketch—which makes things extra clever.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Shared the Products She Uses to Do Her Own Makeup for Public Appearances

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t running for president—at 30, she’s got another five years before she’s even allowed to—but she has been spending some time on the campaign trail lately as a high-profile endorser of Bernie Sanders. The congresswoman went to Los Angeles with the campaign on Saturday, December 21, where she spoke at a rally, but before greeting the crowd, she greeted her Instagram followers with a little look into her makeup routine and why, though she’s great at doing her makeup, she wishes it wasn’t considered a necessity for women in politics.

“So, first and foremost, I do not have a glam team. I don’t have a hairstylist, I don’t have a makeup artist that I take on the road with me. I do my own makeup,” Ocasio-Cortez says in a makeup-free video taken with her phone’s front-facing camera, explaining that the only time a professional does her makeup is when TV station makeup artists do it so it shows up correctly on-camera. “So it’s all very DIY, especially if you’re a woman running for office. You just have to learn how to do your own makeup. And I did it with lots of YouTube tutorials.”

She then shares a photo of the makeup she brought with her to L.A., and while she didn’t list the specific products, it appears she’s using Huda Beauty’s Easy Bake Powder and Matte & Metal Melted Shadow, the Allure Best of Beauty and Readers’ Choice award-winning L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara, Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and what appears to be a Nars blush, a Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour palette, Fenty Beauty Match Stix, a Glossier Haloscope highlighter, as well as few other items, including her go-to Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso—the red she famously wore throughout her own Congressional campaign in 2018.

Along with the photo, she wrote, “This is what I used today. It’s more than usual (for me) but campaign stops have a zillion lights, lots of cameras, etc and it needs to stay on for a very long day.” She also noted, “Most of these products have excellent dupes! I also use dupes/drugstore bb cream for everyday makeup too.”

Meghan Markle Has Cut Back on Her Royal Tour Appearances

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex embarked on her first royal tour with her husband, touching down in Australia for a PDA-filled schedule full of public outings, engagements, and events. The tour, which comes on the heels of Meghan and Prince Harry’s recent announcement that the couple are expecting, has been pretty full-on (to say the least)—so Markle’s decided to reduce some of her commitments. (Hey, even duchesses need self-care.)

According to the Daily Mirror‘s Russel Myers, the Duchess has chosen to “cut back” on her public appearances, taking some time to rest. “After a busy program, The Duke and Duchess have decided to cut back The Duchess’s schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week and a half of the tour,” he tweeted.

Initially, Meghan had been scheduled to appear in Sydney on Sunday morning alongside Prince Harry to present medals at the Invictus Games. Instead, she made the decision to stay home, allowing herself a break ahead of the next leg of her royal tour.

Hello!‘s Emily Nash also reported that she learned the Duchess was “feeling fine but resting,” and that she is “just trying to pace” herself.

On Friday, Meghan gave her first pregnancy update, explaining that pregnancy felt a lot “like having jet lag,” a discomfort Meghan has tried to combat on her royal tour through early morning yoga.

Since landing in Australia, Meghan and Prince Harry’s full calendar has included everything from opening the Anzac Memorial for fallen veterans, stepping out on Bondi Beach and cheering on the teams at the Invictus Games.

During Sunday morning’s medal ceremony, Harry confirmed his wife was doing well but simply “resting back at home.”

“Being pregnant takes its toll,” he went on.

According to People, Meghan is reportedly still planning to make other scheduled appearances—and she made it back out on Sunday afternoon to hang with kids at a reception hosted by Australia’s Prime Minister.

There’s no shame in speaking up when things get to be a little much, especially when you’re not feeling well (and/or are pregnant!). Props to Markle for stepping out of a busy schedule to take the time to feel better. Now, back to her incredible tour outfits
