Cardi B Says She's 'Very Depressed' That She Can't Stop Losing Weight Since Giving Birth

Cardi B recently opened up about some post-pregnancy body changes she’s struggling with. On Thursday, November 15, the Bronx-born rapper went on Instagram Live and shared that she’s been “very depressed” because she’s lost so much weight since the birth of her daughter, Kulture, this July.

“I’ve been very depressed because I cannot stop losing weight,” Cardi said in the video. “And it’s so crazy because when I first gave birth, I did everything to lose my baby weight. I was drinking Teami so it could curb my appetite and now that I lost all the baby weight in my stomach and in my arms and in my face, now I want to gain weight, but now I can’t gain weight because I have a terrible appetite. I can literally go 24 hours without eating.”

She went on to add that part of this discomfort with her weight loss has to do with her past. “I used to look too skinny as a teenager, and I used to hate it and I hate it now,” she said. “It’s been really depressing me, making me sad.”

It’s not the first time Cardi has spoken candidly about how she’s dealing with motherhood. Earlier this year, she dropped out of a high-profile tour alongside Bruno Mars, citing her new baby as the reason. “I also thought that I’d be able to bring [Kulture Kiari] with me on tour,” she explained. “But I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing.”

Still, learning to balance her baby and her career hasn’t stopped Cardi from continuing to dominate the music industry. Her first performance after giving birth stole the show at the 2018 AMAs, and she even dropped a few bars on an explosive new song that features Selena Gomez. She also just landed a role on Netflix’s upcoming hip hop competition series and launched a collection with Fashion Nova.

Cardi may be figuring some things out still, but she’s got her career on lock.

Why Meghan Markle Can't Open Presents on Christmas Anymore

Meghan Markle spent her first Christmas with the royal family last year when she was just engaged to Prince Harry. If you’ll recall, she attended Queen Elizabeth II’s Christmas party, which actually broke royal protocol because typically only spouses of the royal family are invited. Now that Markle is officially a member of the tribe, though, there’s a whole new slate of royal rules and traditions she’ll have to adopt. One that might be a big change for Markle is that the family opens presents at teatime on Christmas Eve—not Christmas morning, like most of us mere mortals.

“On Christmas Eve, The Royal Family lay out their presents on trestle tables and will exchange their gifts at teatime,” reads a section from the the family’s official website.

This isn’t that strange of a tradition, if you think about it. Most families who celebrate Christmas usually do something exciting the night before, like open one present. But if Markle’s ever had a proper Christmas morning—and she probably has—then this new schedule will be an adjustment nonetheless. However, the fact that she’ll be celebrating Christmas inside a literal palace will no-doubt make the transition a little easier.

The royals historically spend both Christmas and New Year’s at Sandringham House, the queen’s country estate in Norfolk. They usually attend the Christmas morning church service at St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip send out about 750 Christmas cards that normally include some type of family photo. Can’t wait to see what Markle is wearing in that pic! My money is on something navy with her hair in a messy bun.

This Backpack Changed My Adult Life—And Now I Can't Live Without It

When I moved to Berlin in 2016, I had no idea about how to schelp my stuff for a full day in the city. I had been living in St. Louis, where everything I needed could be thrown in the back of my Honda CR-V. I could go between different neighborhoods, grabbing what I needed for each from the back seat. I had been spoiled by the convenience of having a car. But that wouldn’t be the case in Germany.

At nine times the size of Paris, Berlin is huge. And I’m a freelance writer with a Class Pass-style gym membership and a passion for finding the best flat whites to knock down while I work. That means that when I head out for the day, I head out—“swinging by” my apartment just to pick up something isn’t a thing.

For a year, I lugged around a New Yorker tote (I know), overflowing with gym clothes, a small bag of post-spin makeup, my laptop, my charger, a portable phone battery, a bulky European adapter, and an array of little things that I might need throughout the day. (Did you know that the approximate 6 lbs. a woman’s bag weighs on average?) I began to notice my posture take a hit—my left shoulder (which I carried the tote on) was always slightly slouched, and I often caught myself in a shrug position to counter the weight. Yoga helped for a minute, but by the following morning, it would all come back. So, I finally broke down: Fine. I’ll get a fucking backpack.

I had honestly never thought of wearing backpacks as an adult. I still felt haunted by the paranoia that my backpack was making the back of my skirt ride up and I was accidentally flashing people. Plus, to me, they always felt much too sporty for my typical look (dark lipstick, Doc Martens, floral wrap dresses.) I still feel ambivalent about athleisure. But looking around Berlin, it seemed like everyone had embraced backpacks—Germans are all about health and practicality, and a ton of people ride bikes, so it makes sense for the lifestyle. I started looking around on the subway, eyeing the tags on the backpacks I liked to educate myself on brands. Then, one day, I went to my favorite I-want-everything homeware store in Kreuzberg, and left with a $95 backpack from Rains that I’ve been wearing ever since. Approximately half of the people in my neighborhood also own my Rains backpack of choice—seriously, I can’t go anywhere without spotting someone with the same style.

I love that its matte black finish is both stylish (it goes with everything) and practical (waterproof.) I never have to worry about my laptop getting wet or lost, and the outer is super easy to wipe clean. It holds several days’ worth of groceries, or enough clothes for a 10-day trip—I know from experience, since I’ve brought it with me on trips to New York, Sydney, Abu Dhabi, London, Reykjavík, and southern Italy. Minus a slightly bent strap-latch, it’s held up remarkably well.

I’m not alone in my conversion: According to a recent Forbes report, women are buying fewer handbags (8 percent less in 2017 than the year before) and, seemingly more backpacks (purchases by women are up 15 percent, while they’re down 5 percent among men and and 15 percent among children.) Sure, sometimes the backpack life can be frustrating—like when I forget my keys in the bottom and have to unpack everything in the stairwell of my apartment to get into my flat—but that’s a me-problem, not a backpack-problem. My dress doesn’t ride up, because I’m no longer a fresh-eyed 13-year-old trying to wear their backpack low like the cool kids (so that was the problem!); instead, I’m a jaded 28-year-old with the posture issues of someone of more advanced years. This backpack is my savior; this backpack can do no wrong. And yes, my shoulders are feeling much, much better.

Shop the backpack that changed it all for me and nine like it, ahead.

Jamie Lee Curtis Can't Help Bragging About Halloween's Record-Breaking Opening Weekend

Almost exactly 40 years after she made her film debut as Laurie Strode in 1978’s Halloween, Jamie Lee Curtis is still unbelievably proud to be a member of the Strode family.

On Sunday, as the film’s 2018 sequel of the same name wrapped up a record-smashing opening weekend at the box office, Curtis shared her excitement about the film’s debut on Instagram. “OK. I’m going to go for one BOAST post,” she captioned a photo of her standing next to Judy Greer and Andi Matichak, who play her daughter and granddaughter, respectively, in the new horror film.

“Biggest horror movie opening with a female lead. Biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55. Second biggest horror movie opening ever. Second biggest October movie opening ever. Biggest Halloween opening ever. Couldn’t be prouder of ALL who made this creative experiment have such a thrilling result!” Curtis continued, adding, “#womengetthingsdone #threetallwomen #threestrodewomen #strodestrong #timesup.”

The post earned tons of supportive comments from many of Curtis’s past costars. “Yes queen,” Emma Roberts wrote. “CONGRATULATIONS,” Abigail Breslin added, while Niecy Nash commented, “Congrats my Queen!!!” alongside plenty of red heart emojis.

According to Box Office Mojo, in its opening weekend, Halloween raked in $77.5 million in the U.S., plus another $14.3 million internationally. That $91.8 million total does indeed set all the records Curtis mentioned in her post. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the biggest horror movie opening came courtesy of 2017’s It, which garnered a whopping $123.4 million in its first few days in theaters. The biggest October opening, meanwhile, goes to Venom, which premiered just a few weeks before Halloween to an $80 million opening.

Beyond just financial success, Halloween has also been praised by many critics. The movie is already “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, with 80 percent positive reviews, and it has a respectable B+ rating on Cinemascore. Of course, we here at Glamour have also praised the film, noting that it’s strongest as a “tribute to the many ironies of the mother-daughter relationship.”

The Internet Can't Take This First Look of Tom Hanks Playing Mister Rogers

At the beginning of this year, Twitter rejoiced when Sony announced that Tom Hanks had been cast as Mister Rogers in an upcoming, still untitled biopic about the late television personality. This week, the world’s hearts collectively exploded when the production company released the first photo of Hanks as Rogers.

In the photo, which Sony released via Twitter on Thursday afternoon (September 27), Hanks sits in the doorway of his on-set trailer, smiling at the camera as he holds a book open on his lap. He’s the spitting image of Fred Rogers, thanks not only to his newly gray hair and eyebrows, huge smile, and twinkling blue eyes, but also to his khakis, blue sneakers, and, of course, that iconic red cardigan, zipped up over a light-blue dress shirt and patterned tie.

Twitter users, of course, have a lot of feelings about the pic. Reactions to the shot include a multitude of crying-face emojis, plus plenty of people counting down the days until they get to say that they will, indeed, be Tom Hanks-as-Mister Rogers’s neighbor.

Earlier this year, director Marielle Heller spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the film, which was previously titled You Are My Friend, but is currently untitled and isn’t a typical biopic. “It’s a movie that’s largely focused on a reporter and [Mr. Rogers’s] relationship to his life, and how [the reporter’s] whole world changes when coming in contact with Fred Rogers,” Heller said. That journalist, per EW, is Tom Junod, who was deeply impacted by the time he spent while profiling Rogers for Esquire in 1998. “It’s a story for our times, a story about kindness and family connection and trying to tap into our better self. God knows we need that right now!” Heller added. “In the research for the movie, the writers found that more people than they could possibly count credited Mr. Rogers with changing their lives.”
