Bachelor Finale Recap: Everyone Is Now Team Hannah Ann


The Bachelor finale aired on Tuesday, March 10, and Chris Harrison didn’t lie: It was quite the dramatic ride. Here’s what happened (warning: major spoilers ahead).

Even though he was still conflicted with his feelings for Madison, who left on Monday’s episode, Peter decided to propose to Hannah Ann, the only woman left standing in the competition. The engagement itself was beautiful, but you could tell something was off. That something was the fact Peter couldn’t give his entire heart to Hannah Ann because he had lingering feelings for Madison. Peter tells Hannah Ann this and, obviously, she doesn’t take it well. She completely reads Peter his rights for leading her on, confusing her, and robbing her of her first engagement.

This carried on to the After the Final Rose ceremony, too, where Hannah Ann reunited with Peter for the first time since ending their engagement. She literally told him that if he wants a real relationship, he needs to become a man. I screamed. The audience shouted. Even Peter’s own mother, Barb, seemed to be on Hannah Ann’s side.

As for Madison, Chris Harrison ended up going to Alabama and informing her of Hannah Ann and Peter’s breakup. Madison reveals she’s still in love with Peter, and goes to L.A. for a second chance with him. She also appeared on After the Final Rose, where it was eventually revealed that Peter is still in love with Madison.

This did not sit well with Barb, who explained why she’s so anti-Madison: She says Madison made the family wait three hours to meet her the first time because she was conflicted about moving forward with Peter. Barb is resentful of the fact that Madison wasn’t all in with Peter the way Hannah Ann was, but Madison made an important point on After the Final Rose (in front of Barb): This was her journey, too. Madison was there to find a husband just as much as Peter was trying to find a wife. Peter and Madison were unable to see eye to eye with Barb by the end of the sit-down. It was the future in-laws fight of your nightmares. Naturally, the Twitter reactions were epic.

This was, my friends, the most awkward Bachelor finale I’ve ever seen. How about y’all?

They Didn't Find Love on The Bachelor. Now They're Relationship Experts.


For Bachelor alum Taylor Nolan, it took getting off the franchise to find her voice. “I’m someone with strong opinions who isn’t scared of speaking her mind,” she says. But she found herself changing on the show. “I was heavily filtering what I was saying out of fear of backlash, out of fear of only half of what I was saying getting aired.” So Nolan uses her podcast, Let’s Talk About It, to speak openly about her dating life and mental health. “As long as one person benefits from something that my guest shared or something that I shared, that’s perfect,” she says. “There’s a lot of connection in shared pain.”

That extends to Instagram, too. When Nolan was still engaged to fellow Bachelor in Paradise contestant Derek Peth—they’ve since broken up—she made an effort not to post happy couple-y photos when things weren’t, in fact, so happy. “Our relationship was so highly romanticized on a reality TV show,” she explains. “Not posting those shiny, romantic photos when shit wasn’t actually good was fighting against some of that pressure.”

Instagram is fast becoming a cesspool of anxiety for contestants, making outlets like podcasts all the more appealing. “You get all this fame, overnight, and you’re riding this super-high high, and then the next season comes along and you lose hundreds of thousands of followers,” Gates says. “It does something to your self-worth.” The future of the post-Bachelor world, she thinks, lies beyond perfectly curated posts. “Fans don’t want the edits in photos, they want to see you as a person, which explains the rise of video, TikTok, people doing podcasts. I think everyone is craving authenticity.”

When Unglert launched Help! I Suck At Dating, he was more than happy to serve up said authenticity but was under no illusion that he had any expertise to offer. Fresh off a disastrous Bachelor in Paradise season in which he juggled two women, he had viewers call in and give him love advice. Fast forward two years: He’s graduated from the Bachelor franchise, in a committed relationship, and surprised to find that he’s become an unexpected resource for matters of the heart (something, he notes, wouldn’t have happened in “a million years” had he not gone through the show).

“I have a lot of friends who have started confiding in me a lot more for dating advice, which I think is really funny,” Unglert says, adding cheerfully, “I always preface everything by saying, ‘Look, obviously I don’t know anything I’m saying. But I think this is what you should do…’”

Peter Weber Says the ‘Bachelor’ Finale Is ‘an Insane Ending’


Unfortunately, the audience wasn’t able to get that information, and it maybe came off like, “Why is Peter making this decision?” I trusted Victoria, and there’s more personal stuff to it that will stay between the two of us. I learned a lot about Victoria, especially in the fantasy suite, and that made me feel confident about [choosing to believe her].

Have you talked to Merissa since the season ended?

No. No communication.

So let’s talk about Madison then. Did you ever ask her why she would go on The Bachelor knowing that sex is often a very big part of it?

I haven’t talked directly to her about that, but I never once held anything against her. That definitely made it very difficult week for me, no doubt about that, but her expressing her views and having to share what was on her heart with me was always in her right to do. It’s never too much for me, and I understand.

There are so many conspiracy theories about what happens on your finale. Chris Harrison even said, “If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t.” So why hasn’t it been spoiled?

I don’t know. I think when I made that statement [earlier this year that it wouldn’t be spoiled], I was just throwing it out there. I’ve truly believed it. I thought there was a reason that it wouldn’t be spoiled. But I’m even a little shocked just with the day and age we live in, social media and whatnot. It’s an insane ending, it is. And it’s the hardest last week of my life. So that’s really all I can say about that.

But then we have Chris saying that you don’t even know how this is all going to end. So are you terrified the “After the Final Rose” special will be just as difficult?

I wouldn’t say terrified because I can honestly say where I’m at right now, I am very happy. I say it over and over, but I followed my heart the entire time. A lot of people, I think, will be surprised. There’s a lot of unexpected stuff that happens up until the very last second, that’s for sure. I think that’s why it’s not been able to be spoiled. Soon everyone will know.

My personal theory is that it’s either Madison or Hannah Brown at the end. Because when your mother says, “Go back and get her,” it seems she’s referring to a relationship she’s invested in. Obviously, she met Maddie in the very beginning of your season and knows Hannah.

Right. I think that’s a very fair theory. My mom is very emotional, and she can’t hide her emotion at all. She definitely has opinions that she feels like she has to get across to me. I know it only comes from a place of love. She’s my biggest fan.

And she doesn’t even know how this season ends?

You guys will have to tune in to see.

You are so well media-trained. I can’t imagine how hard this has been not to say anything. [Laughs.]

It’s very hard. The finale is crazy. That’s all I can say. [Laughs.]

Here’s Why the Bachelor Is Not Allowed to Give His Jacket to the Women on the Show


A producer on The Bachelor wants you to know that Peter Weber is a chivalrous dude who would totally give his jacket to his date if she were cold. He’s just not supposed to.

No, I’m not joking. The reason Pilot Pete is never caught on camera pulling this particular rom-com move is simple: It looks “silly.” The question was raised by a concerned Entertainment Weekly reporter who noticed Madison was cold in the latest episode of The Bachelor—you know, the one in which she dipped after finding out he slept with another contestant during Fantasy Suite week.

“The Bachelor nearly always offers his jacket to every shivering woman sitting in front of him,” the producer told EW. “But [we] tell him not to, because it looks so damn silly.”

But it’s the next part of the source’s statement that sends me. Apparently, pashminas are kept on site to avoid multiple shots of “a small woman draped in an enormous blazer.” A. Small. Woman. Draped. In. An. Enormous. Blazer. I’m getting that tattooed on my shoulder to remind me to always bring a coat to my next breakup with a partner who’s dating two other women.

You can have my arms to protect you from the cold…as a treat.

This is far from the biggest controversy the producers have faced this week. Fans were not impressed by the unprecedented choice to have the three remaining women live together during the Fantasy Suite dates. Chris Harrison explained that the goal was to create an “uncomfortable zone” that would force Madison to be honest with Peter about her virginity and her opposition to staying in the competition should he choose to sleep with Victoria F. or Hannah Ann.

“Sometimes we do it for your behalf; sometimes we do it for the guy’s or the girl’s,” he said on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast. “This situation was pretty extraordinary because Peter had kicked the can down the road, but also, this time Madison had. So this was to force a situation that had to happen, and it had to happen this week.”

No word yet on whether or not Madison returns to the show before Peter gets down on one knee (all signs point to yes). Wherever she is, I hope she’s warm.

What Happens in the ‘Bachelor’ Finale? The Women From Peter Weber’s Season Have Theories


The Bachelor’s fantasy suite episode is supposed to give viewers more clarity about who will be the front-runner in the finale, but this season? Not so much. “It’s insane,” Kelsey Weier, the fourth runner-up for Peter Weber’s final rose, tells Glamour. “It’s insane that nobody knows what happens. I thought by now I would know, and I don’t.”

To recap, Madison Prewett told Peter before the fantasy suite dates began that she wasn’t sure whether she could continue on the show if he was intimate with Hannah Ann Sluss or Victoria Fuller. She didn’t share with him that she’s saving herself for marriage, instead focusing on the fact that it would be hard for her to accept a proposal from someone who was sleeping with other women a few days earlier. Peter understood Madison’s concerns but wasn’t able to give her much reassurance. (This is, after all, The Bachelor.)

Knowing this, Peter still went on to have overnight dates with Hannah Ann and Victoria. And when he met up with Madison for their date—naturally, the producers made her go last—Peter admitted that he had been intimate with the other women. Madison excused herself, Peter followed, and they hugged and cried for what felt like hours. Peter begged Madison not to leave, but she walked away.

So is that it? Or was that just her way of ending their date? Will she show up at the rose ceremony? Bachelor Nation has so many questions—and we have to wait another week for answers.

Even if you want spoilers, they’re not out there. At least not with any certainty. Peter said at the start of this season that the finale wouldn’t be spoiled—which is rare for the series—and so far he’s right.

Is Peter with anyone? Did the final rose ceremony even happen? Did Hannah Brown come back? Did Peter’s final pick leave the show before he could propose? Or did one of his final two drop a bombshell that changed his mind?

At the “Women Tell All” taping, which airs Monday, March 2, Chris Harrison said that Peter season’s “ending is one that no one will see coming” and “if you think you know how the story ends, you don’t.” So with that said, we asked several of Peter’s now eliminated contestants for their best theories. One thing we know for sure: The “After the Final Rose” episode can’t come fast enough.

“There are so many different ways this could end, and so many of them are possible, but my best guess is Maddie left and then she came back and Peter is like, What the heck is going on? He thought he let her go, and now he’s going to take her back and they get married. But what if Hannah Brown comes back? My goodness!”

“From about week two, you get a feeling for who someone is into, and Madison was that person. I was like, ‘They’ve got something and I don’t know if I can get there, but I want to.’ You can tell. I think Peter is going to be extremely happy with whichever way he goes, but I always saw a certain energy between him and Madison. He loves her. I know Madison personally; we live in the same state and have had many conversations, and one thing I pride Madison on is her ability to stay true to herself. Her courage is to stay strong to her faith and what she believes [and it] makes me feel like he sees something special in her. I feel she will get [past him sleeping with the other women].”

“Honestly, [my finale prediction] changes every other day. Part of me thinks he’s with Hannah Ann, and part of me thinks he’s with Maddie. I’m friends with both of them, and they are two totally different people, but I could see him being with either one. I even asked Maddie, ‘Is this what happens?’ and she’s like, ‘No, you’re not even close.’ It’s driving me insane because I hate surprises. I don’t think Hannah Brown comes back and that’s just because she was filming Dancing With the Stars. But who knows? As for who Peter’s mother, Barbara, is talking about in that clip we’ve all seen, maybe she’s talking about Maddie since she already met her? But they do the spoilers for a reason. I feel like the producers are trying to sway us one way to distract us.”

Victoria Paul

“I wish I had some sort of idea or inkling on what’s going to happen, but I think I’ll be just as surprised as the rest of the world is. I do think there’s a rose ceremony and a ring. Other than that, I don’t know. The three women that are left are all incredible and each very different. But when I saw him at the ‘Women Tell All’ taping, he looked happy. I wouldn’t be surprised with anything.”

“I’m seeing different theories and think they all make sense. But the one about Peter being with a Bachelor producer is the most ridiculous one. People are grasping at straws at that point. We see Peter’s connection with Hannah Ann, and we see his connection with Madison. I think it’s one of those two. It obviously doesn’t end in a typical, ‘Will you accept this final rose? Will you marry me?’ way, but I think he’s with Maddie or Hannah Ann. I feel like Peter has a different relationship with Victoria F., and it’s very different from the one he has with Maddie and Hannah Ann. I don’t think a rose ceremony happens on the finale, because of Peter’s reaction to whatever Chris Harrison has to say. There’s no way he just walked into a rose ceremony. I think we don’t even get there.”

“Does he ask anyone? Does he ask someone and they say no, but then he chases after them? Or the contestant chases after him? I truly don’t know. I wait every Monday for a new clip to come out so I can try and put the pieces together. At first I thought Peter’s mother was talking about Hannah Brown in that clip. And then, as the season went on, I thought, Maybe she’s talking about Madison because they had a conversation and there’s tension in the air about everything. Maybe Madison left and they’re like, ‘Bring her back!’ It frustrates me because I want more!”

Lexi Buchanan

“I definitely think he’s with one of the final two, but I don’t know in what capacity. It clearly took a lot to get there and probably wasn’t a very smooth ending. But I think Peter is a really strong person. Even if people want to call him indecisive, he has conviction in his decisions and he’s just trying his best. I’ve watched so many seasons, so how has this one not been spoiled? How does no one know? Maybe the final rose ceremony hasn’t happened? I have no clue.”

The Bachelor Producers Are Casting a Dating Show for Seniors


The Bachelor, a show in which women over the age of 27 are considered “cougars,” has been accused of having an ageism problem before. Whether or not that’s true, I’d argue that age is one reason why so few final couples last. The show’s premise revolves around a man ostensibly looking for his future wife, and yet the Bachelor so often gives his final rose to a woman in a completely different life stage. (Looking at you, Peter.) The average Bachelor is 31, while the majority of female contestants are in their early to mid 20s. Those women are way more likely to be concerned with building a post-collegiate career and/or growing their Instagram following than settling down with some dude they’ve known six to eight weeks. Or just me?

So it’s surprising—encouraging, even?—that the long-running ABC dating franchise is casting for a new show entirely devoted to seniors looking for a “committed relationship.”

“Are you entering your golden years and looking for romance?” a casting notice on ABC.com reads. “The Producers of The Bachelor are looking for active and outgoing single men and women IN THEIR GOLDEN YEARS for a new exciting dating show!”

It continues, “If you are A SENIOR CITIZEN ready for a committed relationship apply today at: http://seniordatingshow.castingcrane.com.“

You’re reading that correctly: A Bachelor-like dating show for seniors is coming to ABC. Over on Twitter, a Bachelor producer confirmed that they’re only casting seniors 65 years old and up.

Details beyond that are slim, but Bachelor Nation is on board anyway. I’ve never seen so many all-caps hit Twitter before. “I CANNOT WAIT GBYE ALL OTHER BACHELOR FRANCHIZESS,” one Twitter fan wrote. “SENIOR CITIZEN BACHELOR GET ON MY TELEVISION!!!!!!!!!!” BachelorBob said.

Some speculated about potential plot lines, while others wondered how they could apply despite the age restriction. “What would the drama be?” one fan asked. “How many husbands someone has had? Who’s the worst bingo player?”

Best of all, though, were the Golden Girls references. You know Blanche would have been first in line to apply.

Obviously we’ll keep you posted as we learn more because this is one we can’t wait to watch.
