Hilary Duff Had the Most Stunning Safari Honeymoon in South Africa


Hilary Duff married her longtime-boyfriend Matthew Koma last month, and the celebration was a low-key, intimate event in her backyard. Following the private nuptials, she posted a few images to Instagram that captured the picture-perfect event and the actor even shared the details of creating her romantic Jenny Packham gown. And now, Duff is giving fans a look at her enviable honeymoon, which includes some stunning views of South Africa.

Duff posted several shots that show she and Koma hanging out a the beach, hugging over mountain landscapes, and enjoying super colorful sunsets. In one of the photos, Duff and Koma can be seen peering out from their window while sipping drinks. “Honeymooning with my honey. Already seen the big 5 and had so many naps. Doesn’t get better than this….” she wrote. “Moonin’ n swoonin’,” she captioned another.

Koma also shared several images of their safari in Kruger National Park. “This place is unreal,” he wrote in a post that includes a selfie of the two of them, plus pictures of a lion, lioness, and an elephant. He capped the trip off with a longer collection of photos detailing their trip: “We climbed Table Mountain in Cape Town, played bananagrams in Mozambique, read a book with a disappointing ending together on our flights, experienced a dream safari in Sabi Sands, had the best meal of our lives at Test Kitchen, and I got to bask in the high of doing it all with my best friend turned wife. I truly am the luckiest.”

Both of them looked sad to see the whole thing end. “Long journey home after the most insane trip of my life! We can’t wait to squeeze the babbbbies and rub their skin offffffffff,” she wrote in the Instagram caption of a photo that shows her and Koma making sad faces at the airport.

The vacation seems to have come at a good time; Duff has been working on the highly-anticipated reboot of her old show Lizzie McGuire. However, some recent drama temporarily ended production on the show. Hopefully, she was too busy enjoying South Africa to stress.

Did you all miss Meghan Markle as much as we did during her maternity leave? After taking some time with son Archie and Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex is back on her official duties—and bringing a whole lot of ‘Markle Sparkle’ during a royal tour of Africa.

After officially getting back to work last week to launch her Smart Set capsule fashion collection for charity, Markle is now in South Africa for a 10-day visit, with a focus on “community, grassroots leadership, women’s and girls’ rights, mental health, HIV/AIDS, and the environment.” With a jam-packed schedule, the Duchess of Sussex is expected to make a variety of appearances in a variety of different looks. During her royal tour of Australia, we saw her mix high and low designs—many of which were created locally—while keeping true to her style of simple silhouettes. And this trip is turning out to be no different.

Meghan Markle Kicked Off Her Royal Tour of Southern Africa With a Powerful Speech


Long before she was the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was a self-identified feminist and an activist for women’s rights. Since marrying Prince Harry and becoming a member of the royal family, she’s continued to champion causes around female empowerment, including her recent capsule fashion collection for Smart Works, an organization that helps dress and prepare women to re-enter the workforce.

So, it should come as no surprise that the duchess’s first speech during her latest royal tour of southern Africa touched on these issues. After arriving in Cape Town with baby Archie, she and Prince Harry made their way to the Nuyanga township where they were greeted with music and dancing by representatives of human rights group the Justice Desk.

Markle addressed the crowd, many of whom are doing important work to curb violence against women in their country.

“So to be able to meet all of you today who are standing up for what’s right in the face of adversity, I applaud you. We are encouraged to hear your president take the next steps toward preventing gender-based violence through education and necessary changes to reinforce the values of modern South Africa,” she said. “I do have to say I feel incredibly humbled to be in the presence of all of you as you stand firm in your core values of respect, dignity, and equality. I read a quote a few weeks ago and it resonated with me as I’ve been watching what’s been happening here and your active efforts. Maya Angelou, a legendary poet and civil rights activist, once said, ‘Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it, possibly without claiming it, she stands up for all women.'”

She continued, “Now I know it’s not easy and I know it must feel insurmountable at times, but your commitment wot what is right gives all of us hope, especially your brothers and sisters here in your community who need you to continue to shine your light brightly. Your commitment is inspiring. It is energizing. And it is extraordinary. You must keep going. You must know that what you are doing not only matters, it is vital because you are vital.”

Markle ended things with, “And just on one personal note, while I’m here with my husband as a member of the royal family. I want you to know, I am here with you as a mother, a wife, as a woman, as a woman of color and as your sister. I am here with you and I am here for you and I thank you so much for showing my husband and I the spirit of ubuntu. And I look forward to our time over the next few days together. Thank you so much for having us.”

Now, that’s one fantastic way to kick off a tour.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Shared Some New Photos From Their 2017 Africa Trip


Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a deep connection to Botswana. They spent five days camping there together early on in their relationship, a period that Prince Harry has referred to in the past as “crucial.” Even the diamonds from her engagement ring were sourced from the country.

They’ve returned to Botswana a few times since then, including a trip in 2017 that made it onto their joint Instagram account this week. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared photos of themselves providing aid at one of Botswana’s elephant conservation centers in honor of World Elephant Day, and offered fans an update about their work with the nonprofit organization Elephants Without Borders. In a caption, the royals explained that outreach efforts supported by the Ellen Fund have helped Elephants Without Borders outfit 25 elephants with satellite navigation collars.

“These collars allow the team at EWB to track the elephants, as well as to learn their essential migratory patterns to keep their corridors safe and open so future generations of elephants can roam freely. In honour of this amazing support, EWB have named their most recently collared Elephant…ELLEN! We can’t wait to see where she will go!” they wrote.

This isn’t the first time they’ve shared photos from their Botswana trips. In April, ahead of the premiere of David Attenborough’s nature documentary series Our Planet, they posted another image of the two of them putting one of the collars on an elephant together.

“As president of @africanparksnetwork, The Duke of Sussex continues to advocate for the communities and wildlife that coexist in some of the most vulnerable environments around the world,” the Instagram caption reads. “Be it human wildlife conflict or natural disasters, these communities (park rangers, school children, families) are on the front line of conservation and we must do more to help them as we also work to safeguard the animals and landscapes that are in critical danger.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reportedly Might Be Moving to Africa


Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a lot going on. Not only are they preparing for the birth of their first child, but it appears the duo may also be contemplating a major move.

According to Tim Shipman and Roya Nikkhah, two reporters with The Sunday Times, “Courtiers have drawn up plans to hand the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a major international job that could see them moving abroad after the birth of their child.”

The destination, The Sunday Times reports, would likely be Africa.

“Discussions are at an early stage, but the plan is to find a new way of using their soft power abilities, most likely in Africa,” a source shared with the paper. As the paper further explained, Sir David Manning, who is the former British ambassador to the U.S., as well as a special adviser on constitutional and international affairs to both Prince Harry and Prince William, is spearheading the plan. The move, insiders explained, would take place sometime in 2020.

However, the move wouldn’t take them away from the kingdom forever. Instead, The Sunday Times explained, the pair and Baby Sussex would live in the new destination for a two- or three-year term. While there, the couple would work on their charitable missions and promote the United Kingdom.

“There have been various ideas floated for them to take on a job abroad, such as governor-general of Australia or Canada, wherever,” a source close to the royals additionally told The Sunday Times.

A move to Africa wouldn’t be out of the blue for Meghan and Harry. After all, the pair did fall in love during a trip to Botswana in 2016 and spent their honeymoon in East Africa. However, the palace is denying any plans have been set in stone. Officials from Kensington Palace shared in a statement, “Any future plans for the Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage. No decisions have been taken about future roles. The Duke will continue to fulfill his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.”

But you know what that statement is missing? A full denial to the claim that the pair are moving somewhere. Who knows, they could move anywhere. Ambassadors to the United States does have a pretty nice ring to it.

First Lady Melania Trump Wore a Pith Helmet During Tour of Africa


First Lady Melania Trump is currently on her first international solo trip, visiting various countries in Africa over the course of a week, and it hasn’t been without a few raised eyebrows.

Once again, FLOTUS’ wardrobe—particularly, one white hat—has come under scrutiny. This morning in Kenya, she visited the Sheldrick Wildlife Elephant Project wearing a white button-down, khaki pants, and tall boots. By the afternoon, to go on a tour of Nairobi National Park, she had added another item to her outfit: a pith helmet.

Quickly, people across the globe pointed out the jarring image, as pith helmets have long been associated with colonial rule, particularly in Africa and parts of Asia and the Middle East, and are considered a symbol of oppression.

Over the course of her time in the White House, Mrs. Trump’s fashion has gotten a lot of attention, with the public reading into the meaning behind every wardrobe choice, even as FLOTUS declines to offer any. Still, many have followed it closely: The New York Times reports that the hashtag #FLOTUSinAfricaBingo, started by a political science professor in California, is tracking what could be interpreted as insensitive behavior, from outfits to activities, during FLOTUS’ trip.

The White House has yet to release a statement on the pith helmet. The East Wing did release an official summary of the trip to Kenya, though, with FLOTUS saying: “The hospitality that I received made the experience so special. I was awed by the beauty of Nairobi National Park and was very interested to learn more about Kenya’s conservation efforts. The Nest is a prime example of what it means to protect and nurture our next generation—seeing their efforts shape the lives of so many children is something I will never forget. I look forward to visiting again in the future.”
