There are plenty of good reasons to buy a one-piece bathing suit. Maybe you like a little more coverage from your swimwear. Maybe you prefer a vintage-inspired look. Maybe you want something you can wear off the beach, with your regular clothes. Maybe you’re still holding on to childhood ambitions of becoming a lifeguard and want to have the uniform handy. If you identify with any of those—or maybe just want to upgrade your swimsuit before summer begins—then you should buy a one-piece.
Unlike bikinis, one-piece bathing suits can easily be incorporated with the rest of your wardrobe, doubling as a bodysuit to be styled with your favorite pair of jeans or with a skirt. There’s also something about them that feels timeless and chic. And you can just as easily find one that’s super simple as one that incorporates the season’s biggest trends. Need proof? We found the 24 best one-pieces for summer 2019, from belted to ruffled to striped.
Hollywood loves a franchise reboot, but it can make the box office feel a little repetitive. I mean, just because we already know and a universe doesn’t mean we need to revisit it every five to ten years. But I have a strong feeling that Men in Black International, which comes out this summer, will be different—and for one very specific reason: Tessa Thompson in suits. (Chris Hemsworth is there, too, I guess.)
Thompson and Hemsworth play agents of the Men in Black’s international operations, working alongside Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson to monitor and police alien activity on Earth. (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, though alluded to, are nowhere to be seen.) The latest installment of the beloved franchise is set primarily in the U.K. and Morocco—but despite the new backdrop, the uniform remains the same. And my goodness, do they look great in those signature black suits.
The first trailer for Men in Black International just dropped, and it’s pretty much a perfect two-and-a-half minutes. I mean, it starts with Thompson walking into the MIB offices in New York wearing a skirt suit, greeted by the other Thompson in a skirt suit. Emma’s character asks, “You really think a black suit is going to solve all your problems?” Tessa perfectly answers, “No, but it looks damn good on you.” I had to pause for a brief shrieking break.
But then—then—you hear, “Oh, snap!” Which signals the beginning of Fergie’s iconic 2006 hit, “London Bridge.” Because they’re going to London. Get it? Another pause for shrieking. Like I said, this trailer is perfect.

You can watch the whole clip above, which sets the scene for a secret global mission that Thompson and Hemsworth, the best celebrity duo to be brought together by the Hollywood machine since Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph at the Oscars, will undertake on the big screen next summer. And I’m beyond ready for two hours of watching them look amazing in suits, preferably in IMAX quality.
Because, hi…
Hello…
I see you…

Men in Black: International arrives in theaters on June 14, 2019, and you will definitely see me there. (Will it be too much if I show up wearing a slim-fit suit?)
Come November 1, you’ll find party dresses as far as the eye can see—at the mall, in the new-arrivals section of your fave e-comm site, in countless targeted posts on Instagram…. It’s a very predictable cycle: You buy, you wear, you’re photographed in it, you decide you no longer need it, you repeat. That’s why the appeal of the holiday suit grows stronger with each passing year—a versatile and timeless outfit you can style in many different ways and wear beyond the party circuit.
Blake Lively knows it. Vanessa Hudgens knows it. Her Royal Highness Meghan Markle knows it. And you too can know the wonders of a festive, party-ready suit. Check out 20 two-pieces to wear this holiday season and long after, ahead.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand continued Tuesday (October 30) with a stop in Auckland, New Zealand. The couple kicked things off with a walkabout, during which they greeted dozens of fans—including a full brass band, who started playing the Suits theme song upon their arrival. No, that’s not a joke or an exaggeration: A band seriously jammed out to Ima Robot’s “Greenback Boogie” as Markle and Prince Harry waved at passersby.
Markle didn’t react to the song, but the moment is iconic nonetheless. The duchess of Sussex hasn’t really discussed the popular USA TV show that made her a star. In September Markle reportedly said she hadn’t seen the latest season of Suits, but that’s the only soundbite she’s given on the subject since becoming a royal.
Watch the band greet Markle with a blast from her Suits past below:
In November 2017 Markle opened up about how she’s ready to close the chapter on Suits and start a new one with Prince Harry. “I don’t see it as giving anything up,” she said. “I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter. I’ve been working on my show for seven years. We’re very, very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series. For me, once we hit the 100-episode marker, I thought, I’ve ticked this box. I feel really proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work as a team with [Prince Harry].”
If Markle is looking for something to watch on TV, though, the current season of Suits is pretty lit.
It looks like we’re not the only ones who stopped watching Suits after Meghan Markle‘s exit last year. While on hand at Monday’s Coach Core Awards, identical twins Luke and Elliott Rainbird, whom she’d met before at another royal event, asked the Duchess of Sussex if she’d seen the show’s new season. According to People, Markle “said no before turning the conversation back to Coach Core.”
Markle left the USA legal drama after seven seasons to embark on her new life with Prince Harry. During her first public interview alongside Prince Harry, she was asked how she felt about leaving the show. “I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she told Sky News last November. “It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”

Markle isn’t the only one embracing this new chapter. Season 8 of Suits saw the arrival of Katherine Heigl as a headstrong lawyer looking to shake things up, a move that has been well-received by critics and fans alike. And when Markle announced her departure from Suits, the show’s creators showed there were no hard feelings via a heartfelt statement congratulating her on her engagement.
“From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement,” the statement read. “Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.”
If Markle does feel like catching up with her old colleagues, we have some good news: Suits is currently streaming on Netflix.
If you’re not following Blake Lively on Instagram, you’re missing out on a lot of A+ flirting between her and husband Ryan Reynolds—that, and some seriously impeccable suits. Lately, her feed has been filled with so many good ones, in fact, that we made a shopping gallery inspired by them. (Trust, it’s the ultimate compliment.)
Scroll through her recent posts, and you’ll see this plaid number…
… and a look she correctly dubbed “Boss. Baby.”
Outside of Instagram, Lively’s been photographed in even more strong suits, too. I like this one, which I call “Fashion Willy Wonka.”

My personal favorite, though, is this velvet-on-velvet-but-no-shirt situation.

Lively didn’t just wake up one morning and think, “I’ll give the Annie Hall look a try.” Rather, this is a coordinated effort to promote her new film, A Simple Favor, which premieres today.
In it, her character, Emily, plays a fashion publicist/fixer to a Marc Jacobs-esque designer. She wears a lot of suits. Behold.

While at a screening for the film—which, by the way, you should definitely go see if you like Henry Golding’s face (and who doesn’t?)—I noticed that Emily’s signature look felt familiar. Specifically, it reminded be of that of Paul Feig, the director of A Simple Favor, who is famous for wearing flawless, well-tailored suits. Surely, given his role in the project, he had some influence over the styling, if only to offer tailoring tips.
That theory was all but confirmed during New York Fashion Week, when Lively and Feig showed up to the Ralph Lauren‘s 50th Anniversary party and show wearing matching tuxes.

It turns out, there really is some truth to it: According to Renee Ehrlich, A Simple Favor‘s costume designer, Emily’s look in the film was mainly based on actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood… with a little of Feig’s style thrown in: “There [were] wonderful mood boards I created looking at all the ’30s and ’40s actresses that wore men’s suiting. I’ve always personally loved men’s suiting and, you know, putting a suit on Blake is a very easy thing to do. It really evolved. We all simultaneously said, ‘Somebody should look just like Paul.’ I mean, look at him. Every day, he’s a dream.”
Lively had a hand in the creation of Emily and her wardrobe, too. During a red carpet interview at the film’s premiere, she said: “[Paul was] like, who do you want to look like? Who do you want to be? We’d be on set and I’d be like, ‘Is this too much?’ And he’s like, ‘Yes it is, let’s do it.’ I love that.”
Emily’s showstopper suits serve as a stark contrast to Stephanie, Anna Kendrick’s character, a mommy blogger who gravitates toward the kind of preppy sweaters and floral blouses you might find in an Anthropologie or J.Crew.

That was intentional, of course: “It was really interesting because it couldn’t have been two [more] different characters,” Ehrlich continues. “One was this powerhouse character who was, we really wanted to create a very iconic look, on somebody who absolutely didn’t care about fitting in. Opposed to Anna’s character who was really trying very, very hard to fit in.”

The takeaway? Despite being a decades-old trend, Le Smoking continues to be the go-to for women with something to say. I’ll see you at the tailor.
