Lizzo's Performance at the 2019 BET Awards Was So Good Even Rihanna Gave It a Standing Ovation

Lizzo continued her domination of summer 2019 with an incredible performance of her song “Truth Hurts” at the BET Awards Sunday night, where she appeared atop a wedding cake in a veil, bridal lingerie, a killer pair of sunglasses, and twerked while playing the flute. This comes on the heels of her MTV Movie & TV Awards performance of “Juice” that featured a tribute to the movie Sister Act.

Basically, Lizzo is giving us all the viral performance clips we need and even Rihanna—and her new red hair—could not deny her excellence last night, giving her a standing ovation. Could anything feel better than a Riri standing “O”? We’re guessing not.

Watch the performance for yourself below:

Now you know why Rihanna loved it—and the Internet went nuts for the moment. “Had to make a GIF of Rihanna applauding Lizzo, I now release the GIF into the wild, for the benefit of the human race,” one person tweeted.

Lizzo, herself, tweeted an image of Rihanna clapping and wrote, “That’s it… that’s the tweet ??‍♀️.”

But praise from Rihanna aside, Lizzo’s motivation for the performance was much deeper. There’s nothing I’d rather see than black girls falling in love with themselves on T.V.,” she tweeted. “Big girls— you are IT! YOU ARE ALWAYS the bride in a marriage of SELF-LOVE!”

The social media reactions from fans watching on television was incredibly positive. “Ok @lizzo you did that shit!! When you pull that flute bitch I jump out my chair!!!” Saturday Night Live’s Leslie Jones tweeted. “MY GIRL @LIZZO WILL GIVE YOU A PRODUCTION! THE ENERGY! THE NARRATIVE! THE COSTUMES! THE THIGHS! THE BUNDLES! THE DAGGONE FLUTE PLAYING WHILE TWERKING!” another Twitter user wrote. “@RIHANNA knows what it is everyone should be standing. The category issssss 100% THAT BISH!”

Do you think it’s too much to ask for a Lizzo and Rihanna collaboration—perhaps for RiRi’s new album?

Watching Lady Gaga Cry While Receiving a Standing Ovation for *A Star Is Born* Will Wreck You

Lady Gaga has worn many hats in her career: pop star, jazz singer, Kermit the Frog enthusiast, “Italian girl from New York”—the list goes on and on. Her latest role, though, quite literally has the whole world talking.

This October, Gaga will make her movie lead debut as Ally in Bradley Cooper’s remake of A Star Is Born, and her performance is receiving extremely positive reviews. One critic from IndieWire says Gaga is “unreal” throughout the entire movie. Another from Yahoo! wrote that she shines “pretty damn bright.” The movie currently has a 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it keeps on climbing. (I should know—I’ve been tracking it religiously.)

The universal acclaim carried over to the Toronto International Film Festival, where the movie screened. Initial TIFF responses were off the charts, and the momentum continued during a Q&A with the cast. During the chat, Lukas Nelson, one of Gaga’s costars, complimented her for “destroying” every scene she’s in. The crowd applauded at this comment, and then gave her a standing ovation. This prompted Gaga’s cast members on stage to also stand up and clap, leaving her shocked and holding back tears. At one point, she buries her face in her hands and starts crying. It’s incredibly moving. Watch it for yourself, below:

“Please stop,” she asks her costars and the audience, who continue to clap. “Thank you,” she says, eventually, blowing a kiss to the audience and hugging Cooper.

What’s that I hear? Fifteen Oscar nominations for Lady Gaga just for this one performance? Wow!

A Star Is Born hits theaters everywhere on October 5.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Received a Standing Ovation Literally for Just Leaving a Restaurant

As if they weren’t iconic enough already, Beyoncé and Jay-Z just got a standing ovation for eating in a restaurant. That’s right—the world’s foremost power couple received a level of applause most performers can only hope for…just by gracing mere mortals with their dining presence. The glorious incident was captured on camera and published by TMZ, who reported that the two were enjoying a meal at the Aurora restaurant in Capri, Italy.

As TMZ’s footage shows, while Bey and Jay were making their way out, their fellow diners rose to their feet and clapped and cheered. The owner also got a hug from Jay-Z, TMZ reports, and as the pair exited with their entourage, they received a chorus of parting “ciaos.”

Later, as a video from Instagram account @beylite2.0 shows, the couple took a stroll through the streets of Capri while holding hands. In the video, people can be heard gasping and probably expressing the Italian equivalent of “OMG, is that Beyoncé?!”

It looks like Beyoncé and Jay-Z have stayed in Europe for a week-long vacation after wrapping up the continental leg of their On the Run II tour. After kicking things off in Cardiff in the U.K. way back in June, the couple performed their way through the U.K., the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Spain before giving their final concert in Nice, France, on July 17. People reported on Monday that they took a yacht off the Amalfi Coast in Italy. (This would have been before their applause-worthy dinner date.) Although Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir are also on tour with their parents, People reported, they weren’t seen in paparazzi photos of the Carters’ boat trip.

On Wednesday, July 25, they’ll pick things up in Cleveland before embarking on the North American leg of their tour—where we can only assume they will be greeted with equally fawning crowds going, well, apesh*t.

Watch Donald Trump Literally Forget Melania Is Standing Right Next to Him

PHOTO: BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI

There have been some deeply awkward moments between President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, and one of the most absurd examples might have slipped past you. At a visit to Fort Myers, Florida last week to survey the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Trump sent his regards on behalf of his absent wife—while she was standing right next to him.

“I just want to thank everybody, the first responders, on behalf of myself, our Vice President—Melania really wanted to be with us,” Trump said, somehow forgetting that the Slovenian former model was standing directly to his left in a green shirt and white baseball cap. What?

While the First Lady remained stone-faced this time, there have been plenty of others during which she’s acted like she wished her husband would quite literally forget her presence. How many times did we watch the video of Melania appearing to swat Donald’s hand away as they walked down the tarmac after arriving in Tel Aviv? And who didn’t raise an eyebrow when the Trumps exchanged a stiff handshake after she introduced him at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland last week? We all felt the love in the room when Melania pulled herself away from President Trump as they danced to “My Way” at an Inaugural Ball. Add last week’s baffling lapse in basic spatial awareness to the “Sad Melania” meme inspiration.

Shailene Woodley Says She Was Strip-Searched After Standing Rock Arrest

Shailene Woodley revealed new and horrifying details of her 2016 arrest at Standing Rock in a recent interview with Marie Claire UK.

The actress and activist joined thousands of demonstrators last October on the front lines of Standing Rock, where they were gathered to protest the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which was set to be built over portions of the Sioux Nation’s sacred land.

Woodley was arrested on October 10—which happened to be Indigenous Peoples’ Day. While the fact that she was arrested is well known, Woodley is only now sharing the gruesome details of what transpired between her and the local police.

“I was strip-searched,” Woodley told Marie Claire. “Like get naked, turn over, spread your butt cheeks, bend over. They were looking for drugs in my ass.”

She added, “When you’re in a jail cell and they shut that door, you realize no one can save you. If there’s a fire and they decide not to open the door, you’ll die. You are a caged animal.”

This isn’t the first time Woodley has spoken out about her very public arrest, which was streamed live and has since been viewed by more than 5 million people on Facebook.

Just days after the arrest, Woodley wrote an essay for Time explaining that she was there in solidarity with the indigenous people who “we are still silencing [for] their dedication to protect us from the planetary consequences that will catastrophically bleed from our ignorance.

“We wear their heritage, their sacred totems, as decoration and in fashion trends, failing to honor their culture,” she wrote. “Headdresses, feathers, arrows. Moccasins, sage, beadwork. You know what I’m talking about, Coachella.”

As Woodley noted to Marie Claire, she’s not letting her arrest slow down her activist mindset. Instead, the actress has started a nonprofit called Up to Us, which provides people across the U.S. with the community-organizing tools they need to start their own movements.

“There’s a misconception that, in order to start a movement, you need to have gone to college, or have a ‘name,’ or look a certain way,” Woodley said. “But you don’t. We want to eradicate that narrative.”

As for something simple that everyone can do right now to make a difference, Woodley advised that you start by simply educating yourself on the issues that matter most to you.

“None of us are perfect,” Woodley said. “To me, the biggest shift we can make is the mindfulness around these things. That’s the catalyst for change. We must wake up every morning and ask ourselves, ‘How can I do more? How am I willing to shift my lifestyle to actually create the change I complain about?’ Now, all of a sudden you’re empowered, you’re passionate, you have a fuel beneath your feet to move forward in a way that’s conducive not only for your own personal life but also for the world as well.”

The Morton County Sheriff’s Department was not immediately available for comment.
