Jennifer Lopez Was Too Busy Looking Iconic at an Oscars After-Party to Worry About Her Snub


I’m sure Lopez had a blast at whatever after-party she chose to hit up. Here’s hoping she had a kiki with the other MVPs of awards season (in my eyes): Laura Dern, Florence Pugh, and Bong Joon-ho. You know they all wanted Lopez to get nominated for Hustlers.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on one of Lopez’s captions from last night: “Dance the night away, live your life and stay young on the floor.” She quoted her own lyrics, people. I truly cannot stress that enough. The power that she has.

Of course, Jennifer Lopez’s snub is not the Oscars’s only notable misstep. The Academy conveniently forgot that female directors are a thing and that the actors in Parasite probably contributed to its raging success. At this point, the Oscars’s only saving grace is all of Bong Joon-ho’s wins, Janelle Monae, and Brad Pitt’s tongue. Otherwise, they were a Jennifer-Lopez-less disappointment.

Here’s hoping next year we see a more diverse batch of nominees and maybe even a retroactive Oscar nom for J.Lo. What? It could happen! I’m putting it in the universe.

Jennifer Lopez's Super Bowl Halftime Show to the Oscars: Snub This


Did Jennifer Lopez shade the Oscars during her Super Bowl halftime performance? That’s what some fans on Twitter think.

Here’s what happened: Midway through the pop icon’s set, she did a pole dance to her hit nineties song “Waiting for Tonight.” She killed it, obviously, and that’s largely because she completed serious pole dancing training for her performance in the 2019 movie Hustlers. Her turn as Ramona in that movie generated Lopez serious awards season buzz. Many thought she was a shoe-in for a Best Supporting Actress nomination, but she was snubbed.

So it’s funny that Lopez busted out one of the skills she was lauded for in Hustlers during her Super Bowl halftime show. “Jennifer Lopez started her Super Bowl halftime performance on a pole to remind the Oscars how badly they messed up by not nominating her for Hustlers,” one fan tweeted, while another wrote, “J.Lo said, ‘I trained for MONTHS for Hustlers and didn’t get an Oscar nom. I am getting on the poll at the #SuperBowl and you can’t stop me.'”

Shakira co-headlined the Super Bowl halftime show with Lopez, and she also delivered a spellbinding performance.

The Little Women Stars Just Said What We're All Thinking About Greta Gerwig's Oscar Snub


When the 2020 Oscar nominations were announced on Monday, it was clear the Academy had egregiously snubbed the work of women, including Greta Gerwig’s directorial efforts in Little Women and Jennifer Lopez’s acting in Hustlers. Plenty of people went off on Twitter, but the actual stars of Little Women decided to add their voices to the conversation, with Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh opening up about how Gerwig’s undertaking as a director should have been recognized.

Ronan (Jo March in the film) and Pugh (Amy March), were both nominated for their acting in the movie. Little Women also got nods for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design Achievements, and Original Score. However, despite how well-received Gerwig’s adaptation was, she was conspicuously missing from a nomination list of all-male directors, a category that has historically left out women. Pugh had strong feelings about what Gerwig getting iced out means, telling Deadline it’s “a big blow, especially because she created a film that is so her and so unique and it’s just come out of her, and it’s been a story she’s wanted to do for so long.”

She continued, “I think everybody’s angry and quite rightly so. I can’t believe it’s happened again, but I don’t really know how to solve it. I don’t know what the answer is, other than we’re talking about it.”

Ronan, who also starred in Gerwig’s Lady Bird, also told Deadline, “I’m really happy that the Academy recognized [Gerwig] for Adapted Screenplay and Picture, and I feel like if you’ve been nominated for Best Picture, you have essentially been nominated for Best Director,” she said. “But to me, Greta, since she started, has made two perfect films, and I hope when she makes her next perfect movie, she gets recognized for everything, because I think she’s one of the most important filmmakers of our time.”
