Charli XCX Had an Iconic Response to Her Tampon String Showing Onstage


Music fans know that Charli XCX’s performances are a glittery, high-energy, all-inclusive party. But on Friday night, a surprise guest on her Austin, Texas, tour stop took her show in a down-to-earth (and hilarious) new direction.

In a video posted to her Instagram account, Charli XCX gave a shout-out to — wait for it — her tampon string, which had come out of her costume during her performance. “My tampon string is out tonight,” she said onstage as the crowd started screaming in delight. “Last night I was like, I thought it came out, but tonight, it came out, Austin.”

Her fans laughed with her in the comments. “Iconic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tampon commander of collabs,” one person wrote.

It’s not that surprising that Charli XCX would turn her tampon string’s cameo into an Internet moment. The singer has a refreshingly carefree attitude — her first hit was literally called “I Don’t Care, I Love It” — and when it comes to her onstage raves, everyone’s invited (including the odd feminine hygiene product).

In an interview with Glamour earlier this year, Charli said that her fans are the type that let her be totally honest onstage. “[My fans] really care about me, and I really care about them. We’re speaking the same language, and maybe nobody else gets that language, but we totally understand. I just feel my music is now a safe space for me to be really honest. I don’t feel afraid.”

So if you take anything away from Charli XCX’s tampon debacle, let it be this: There’s no shame in letting it all hang out. And if you’re not following Charli XCX’s on Instagram, you’re really missing out.

Chrissy Teigen Had the Best Response to People Shaming Her for Not Wearing a Bra


One more point for Chrissy Teigen in the Chrissy vs. Haters scoreboard (which, I’m sure, Teigen is leading by a million at this point). On Thursday, August 22, she posted a video on Instagram that shows her sliding into a ball pit and grabbing her boobs—something many people are taking as a wink to the critics who had given her a hard time for going braless in a social media post the day before.

Teigen captioned the video, “Whoopsie daisy.”

This video seems to have been taken on the same day as the Instagram post that Teigen posted previously, in which she’s pictured standing open-mouthed and staring at something while wearing a jumpsuit with a low neckline. “What do you think I’m looking at?” she asked her social media followers. Some users used that opportunity to answer with things like, “a bra, girl, get you one.”

As usual, Teigen took the comments in stride and wrote to one user, “Allow me to save you from my titties.”

But even though Teigen made a joke out of the comments, some people jumped to her defense in a more forceful way. “All of these WOMEN commenting on the fact she’s not wearing a bra,” one person wrote. “Y’all are just jealous that you don’t have the confidence to do it too because we all know bras are the worst thing in existence.”

Someone else chimed in to defend how great Teigen looks. “She breastfed two kids and her boobies look bomb AF,” one person wrote, “so why not wear what she wears.”

Still, Teigen clearly doesn’t seem to care about what any bra sticklers have to say—and neither, apparently, does her husband, John Legend. In it, you can hear Legend laughing hysterically as she tumbles into the pit. True couple goals.

Cole Sprouse Just Gave the Best Response to Those Lili Reinhart Breakup Rumors


Riverdale stars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have been dodging breakup rumors for a few weeks now, sending people gentle reminders to stay out of their personal lives. But on Tuesday, August 6, Sprouse addressed those rumors straight-on and, without confirming or denying how true anything is, shared that he doesn’t take the chatter very seriously.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood event, Sprouse made light of the rumors. When ET asked him if they were annoying, he laughed and said “incredibly,” and then explained that he usually brushes them off.

“I don’t care. That’s the nature of our industry,” he said. “I think you have to poke fun of it a little bit. It’s kind of something you sign up for, but as long as can keep it light and fun, it’s all good.”

The couple previously poked fun at all the interest in their love life on Instagram. Next to a cover image that they appeared on together for W magazine, Reinhart wrote, “BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that none of you know shit.” She confused fans even more a few days later by publishing what she called a “sappy nighttime birthday poem” on social media, dedicated to Sprouse on his 27th birthday.

Then, after Variety posted a video promoting an interview with Sprouse, Reinhart commented, “Sources say he’s single now. Is he available?” She’s since deleted the comment. So what is the truth?!

Sprouse’s wisecracking has been a bit more indirect. “UNPRECEDENTED: Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart consume the flesh of ‘reliable sources’ to fuel their bacchanalian sex cult,” he teased in a matching Instagram post with the W magazine cover. Despite all their jokes, though, it’s pretty clear the two of them just want to keep their relationship status to themselves.

Serena Williams Had the Best Response for Critics Who Think She Should Stick to Tennis


Serena Williams might have lost the final women’s singles showdown at Wimbledon on Saturday, but she’s not about to let that defeat—or any others—throw her off. Speaking in a press conference after the match against Romania’s Simona Halep (final score: 6-2, 6-2), Williams powerfully defended herself against recent critiques, including from tennis legend Billie Jean King, that she should focus more on tennis and less on her activism work and “being a celebrity.”

“There have been a few comments made in the last couple of weeks from people like Billie Jean King that maybe you should stop being a celebrity for a year and stop fighting for equality and just focus on the tennis,” a journalist asked her at the end of the press conference. “How do you respond to that?”

Williams, of course, had the perfect answer ready. “The day I stop fighting for equality and for people that look like you and me will be the day I’m in my grave,” the 23-time Grand Slam champ responded.

For context, King had said back in June that it was a “wish” she had to see Williams just focus on tennis. “She’s got business, a baby, she’s trying to help gender equity, particularly for women of color, she’s actually on the Billie Jean King leadership initiative, she and Venus are both advisors for it. [It makes winning a Slam] much harder,” she told the U.K.’s Metro, highlighting that there’s a lot on Williams’ plate. “I would like her to put everything else aside, because she’s got people working on those things. I wish she would just make a commitment for the next year and a half to two years and say, ‘I’m going to absolutely focus on what’s necessary for my tennis, so when I look in the mirror when I’m older then I can go back in my mind and know I gave it everything I had.'”

“If she’s happy doing it this way, then that’s fine. It’s whatever makes her happy, it’s not about us,” King added.

After Williams’ response at the press conference, King clarified her words on Twitter: “I would never ask anyone to stop fighting for equality. In everything she does, Serena shines a light on what all of us must fight for in order to achieve equality for all,” she wrote.

King is herself a staunch advocate for gender equality: She won the historic 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match against Bobby Riggs, which went a long way toward breaking down the cultural perception that women’s sports are somehow “less than” men’s, though that fight is far from over. In the Metro article, King also admitted that it’s “not fair” to ask Williams to devote herself only to tennis—and she referenced how difficult the sport became for her as she aged past 40 (Williams is 37).

Someone Asked Serena Williams If Meghan Markle Chose Her as Archie's Godparent, and She Had the Best Response


Saturday (July 6) is shaping up to be rather busy across the pond: In Windsor, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is being baptized. Although guests will number around just 25, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla Parker-Bowles, Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, are all expected to attend. The queen, however, won’t be there as she’s spending the weekend in Sandringham with Prince Philip.

Many people were wondering if Markle’s dear friend Serena Williams would join Markle and Prince Harry for the event—she’s currently playing at Wimbledon—as well as if she’ll be named one of Archie’s godparents. (The two have hung out recently: Markle and two college friends cheered Williams on to victory earlier in the week.)

Now we have our answer: According to Metro, a reporter at a post-match press conference asked Williams, “Serena, has Meghan asked you to be godmother on Saturday, and are you going?” Williams laughed and replied succinctly, “No, I’m working on Saturday…and she understands work.” She also said she was glad that Markle was able to come see her play. “I knew she was there, and it’s always exciting when she comes out to watch and support the tennis, so I was happy.”

Markle and Harry are trying to keep Archie’s christening as private as possible, hence the small invite list. They’re also not releasing the names of the godparents, which is a different approach than Middleton and William have taken with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. There will also not be any press coverage of the arrivals, as we saw last year with Louis’s christening. (It should be noted that Archie does not currently have a royal title and is much further down the line of succession than the Cambridge children.)

We will still get to see photos, though: Buckhingham Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to release images taken by photographer Chris Allerton after they celebrate privately with friends and family.

Megan Rapinoe Had an Epic Response to Alex Morgan’s Tea-Sipping Moment


Like the champion she is, U.S. soccer player Megan Rapinoe defended her teammate Alex Morgan from critics who have taken issue with the tea-sipping gesture Morgan made during a semifinal match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup this week. In an interview Rapinoe praised Morgan and then clapped back at haters so perfectly that the whole thing was, well, goals.

To recap, Morgan celebrated her 30th birthday by scoring one of two goals that brought the U.S. Women’s National Team to victory over England on Tuesday. Her reaction? She pretended she was sipping a cup of tea and lifted her pinkie high in the air, a perfectly cheeky version of a fist-pump, tailor-made for the rival team.

While most people thought the move was, as the English would say, bloody brilliant, not everyone was thrilled. Lots of social media users (particularly those in the U.K.) called Morgan out for being too cocky—a constant criticism during their historic World Cup run. As the USWNT racks up wins on their way to the final on Sunday, trolls have argued that their on-the-field celebrations have been distasteful.

Rapinoe, however, had some thoughts when asked about the meme-making moment after the game. “That was next-level. That was pretty sharp by Alex,” she said, joking that next time she’d have to do something bigger so Morgan wouldn’t upstage her. An interviewer than asked what Rapinoe thought of the backlash Morgan’s faced, and the athlete quickly made it clear that the U.S. Women’s National Team has nothing but love for their opponents.

“Wah, wah, wah,” she said. “I mean, it’s like, we’re at the World Cup, what do you want us to do? This is the biggest stage, the biggest moment. I don’t think anyone truly believes that we disrespect the game or disrespect our opponents. We have the utmost for England and every team that we’ve faced and every team that we will face, forever and ever. That’s just part of the DNA of the squad. With that said, we work hard, we like to play hard, and we like to have fun and enjoy ourselves, and these are the absolute biggest moments to do that.”

Rapinoe has been frank and articulate when it comes to matters off the field too. The LGBTQ-rights activist recently made headlines for saying that she won’t go to the White House if the team is invited by President Trump, and she’s been one of the leaders in a gender-discrimination lawsuit her team leveled against the U.S. Soccer Federation. She’s a GOAT in every way.
