How Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Are Spending Their Time in Quarantine

As people adjust to the new normal of self-isolating amid the coronavirus pandemic, we’re also getting insight into the quarantine lives of celebrities, such as Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Reynolds was a guest (via video chat) on The Late Night Show With Stephen Colbert on April 1 and let the world in on how he and Lively are spending this time with their three daughters—and Lively’s mom, who is there as well. “We’re doing a lot of home-schooling. We’re lucky enough to have a little, tiny garden, so we’re learning a little bit about gardening. We’re trying to make this an educational experience,” he said. “But I’m mostly drinking.” Given that Reynolds owns a liquor brand, Aviation Gin, we’re guessing he won’t be running out any time soon.

“I do not miss masculine company at all,” he said of being in a house with all women. “Really, most men tend to just be the architects of someone’s demise. So it’s fine. I like just being here with the girls. I like doing the girls’ stuff,” he continued. “Like, I try not to push sort of gender normative ideas on my kids as they’re born, but each one as soon as they came out of the chute, they wanted to make dresses, they wanted to dress in hot pink all day. That’s what I’’ve been doing. This morning we made dresses out of tissue paper, which was fun for them. This is what we’re doing! We’re developing the skills that will take us into the new world.”

Like so many of us, Reynolds is overdue for a haircut and apparently Lively is going to take over those grooming duties—and we’d love if they shared this moment on Instagram. “Tomorrow, Blake is going to give me a haircut,” he said. “She did this once before. It took two-and-a-half hours. And then at the end it looked like she had done the whole thing using only a lighter or, like, those gloves that are made of sand paper. It would have been a little faster if she had just rubbed my head until the hair disappeared.”

Ryan Reynolds also stressed the importance of giving back if you are able. He and Blake Lively generously donated $1 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada early on in the crisis. “I’m not really in the business of telling people what to do, necessarily, but I do think it’s incumbent upon those who can give back to do so,” he said. “Particularly at a time like this.”

Only Ramona Singer Can Make Quarantine With an Ex-Husband Sound Fun

Ten minutes into my call with Ramona Singer, she wants to hop on FaceTime. “Want me to show you my refrigerator?” she asks in complete sincerity after I ask what she, her daughter Avery, and ex-husband Mario are snacking on while self-isolating in Florida. But fans of The Real Housewives of New York City shouldn’t be surprised by Singer’s openness here—she’s been putting it all out there since 2008, when the Bravo show began and catapulted her to reality TV stardom. That’s since morphed into full-fledged stardom—”reality” caveat not necessary—because these days people consume the Housewives and HBO prestige dramas with equal, unapologetic fervor.

RHONY has endured as long as it has because the show is more than just a Pinot Grigio-soaked romp of Manhattan’s matriarchal glitterati. It offers unflinching—and, at times, uncomfortable—insight into what so many women deal with. Infertility, infidelity, tumultuous friendships, divorce: It’s all represented on RHONY. The stakes on TV are higher and more glossy than real life, sure, but the emotional core is always there.

As is Ramona Singer. She’s the only woman in RHONY history to be a main cast member for all 12 seasons. The latest begins tonight, April 2, and her signature, take it-or-leave-it honesty is on display like never before. We see that immediately in episode one, when she expresses very real fears about never finding a partner.

I saw this honesty throughout our conversation too, where no topic was off-limits. Truly. She dished on everything: Dorinda Medley, who seems to be the source of major drama this season; Bethenny Frankel, who isn’t returning for season 12, something Singer says is for the best; and Mario, her ex-husband, who she’s on good terms with now but was understandably not for a few years. How did she end up quarantined with him, you ask? Find out the answer to that and much more in our full, very candid chat, below.

Glamour: In the season premiere, you have an emotional conversation in which you talk about how you’re afraid of being alone. What happened there?

Ramona Singer: Well, not feeling alone, because I’m never alone. I’m very social. I had this fear that I won’t find a partner who would be compatible for me. Dating is easy for me. I could be in a relationship. But I don’t want a relationship. I want the relationship. All of a sudden I was feeling, “Will I ever find that again?”

Can you talk to me a little bit about why you think that conversation bubbled up when it did?

I was hiding from going into my new apartment. I was avoiding it. I sold my apartment in June, and here it was now September, and I only spent five nights in my new apartment. The reality of moving into my new apartment was like, “Oh my God, I am single, I am divorced, I am on my own.” I believe staying in my existing family apartment cocooned me and isolated me from facing, “You know what, I’m on my own. I’m a single. I’m an empty-nester with no partner.”

What’s your story arc like this season? Does it build on that conversation you had in the first episode?

Basically you’re going to see me on my journey of [being an empty-nester], what I’m going through, and what I do to try to make it better. You’ll have to see if I come out the end feeling better or not. Everyone can relate to that. At that point, I felt lost and had no direction. Every viewer is going to relate, because when something major happens in your life—you lose your job, you lose a husband or a sister or brother—it shakes you to your core. You’re like, “Oh my God, what does it mean with everything? Where do I go from here?” I think it was just a huge wake-up call for me. I had a breakdown, to tell you the truth. I had a breakdown. I always have a direction. I always have a purpose. I always have a plan. All of a sudden, I felt lost.

Please Enjoy Ina Garten’s Quarantine Cocktail Recipe

“You never know who’s going to stop by,” Ina Garten, queen of home cooking, says in her latest Instagram instructional video. “Wait a minute,” she interrupts herself, looking a little wild. “Nobody’s stopping by!”

And with that she pours the remainder of a large bottle of Grey Goose vodka into a pitcher. “During a crisis, you know, cocktail hour can be almost any hour.” It’s 9 a.m. in San Francisco as I watch this. Welcome to quarent-Ina.

“I always have to remind myself, I’m stuck in East Hampton with a husband that I’m crazy about,” Garten—otherwise known as the Barefoot Contessa—told The Atlantic this week, putting her quarantine into perspective. And aware that she’s in a palatial and sun-kissed mansion while many of us are doing Downward Dog in narrow apartment hallways, she’s been giving back, providing a steady stream of comfort-food recipes and ideas.

Though she’s famous for her acerbic “store-bought is fine” instruction (as in, “If you don’t have time to dry and press 3,400 rose petals…store bought is fine”) her corona-era content is deliberately accessible—ramen noodles, waffles, a bowl of broccoli and bow-tie pasta where she subbed out both the broccoli and the bow-ties for stuff she actually had in her pantry. Because yes, Ina Garten is aspirational (I too want to live by the sea with my pleasant husband Jeffrey, dress only in freshly laundered work shirts, and look good with bangs) but she’s also exceptionally comforting. Sometimes that means a nice stew. And sometimes that means a gigantic vodka-based cocktail.

“During these stressful times, it’s really important to keep traditions alive,” Garten begins the video, looking uncharacteristically, though charmingly, harried. “My favorite tradition is the cocktail hour.” She proceeds to dump ingredients for cosmopolitans into a gigantic glass pitcher, announcing dubious measurements (“One cup of Cointreau!” she says, upending at least half a bottle of alcohol into the pitcher). She looks happy, and a little bit wild—a mirror image of us but in a much nicer kitchen.

“You have to shake it for 30 seconds,” she says, pouring the drink into the shaker, and then grinning. “You have lots of time. It’s not a problem.” She sips from her cocktail, which is icy, melon colored, and positively enormous.

“Stay safe, have a very good time and don’t forget the cocktails,” she says. And when she puts it that way, it sounds pretty doable. Stay inside and have a nice drink. I mean—how easy is that?

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas's Quarantine Life Sounds More Fun Than an Actual Party

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are doing the right thing at the moment and staying home amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But that doesn’t mean they’re not having loads of fun.

Turner joined Conan O’Brien on his late night show (virtually, natch) and let the world in on what life is like at the Turner-Jonas household. Turner, for one, is “kind of loving” being at home all day. “I’m an introvert, I’m a homebody,” she said. “If I could stay at home all day I would, so this is great for me. I leave my house like once a day to walk my dogs, and then that’s it.”

While she realizes it might be harder for some people to practice social distancing she said, “All you have to do is stay at home and get drunk at home.” When O’Brien replied that he hadn’t heard Dr. Anthony Fauci recommend that path during his press briefings, Turner joked, “Yeah, but you know he’s thinking it. You know he’s doing the same thing.”

She also showed off her sweatpants, paired with a lovely green sweater—a stark change from how stars usually dress for their talk show appearances. “I’m business on top, party on the bottom,” she said.

But what really sounds fun is the club Turner and Jonas seem to be running from their home. Turner says her husband has taken up performing DJ sets filled with 80s music, and she serves as the bartender. “He’s started doing that really, really loudly when I’m trying to read my scripts. He’s DJing at home,” Turner said. “But it’s fun! I pour him his drinks. I pour him his alcohol. I give him tequila shots. He’ll text me and be like, ‘What time is it?’ I’ll reply from the kitchen, ‘Shot time,’ and bring him a shot of tequila.”

“There’s no rules in quarantine,” she added. “It’s fun.”

We love the sound of that motto, as long as it’s all going down in a socially distanced and safe way.

Hailee Steinfeld's Favorite Books Are the Perfect Quarantine Distraction

My dear Nana has always told me—and still tells me all the time—that no matter what, you need to wear sunscreen every day. I think it’s a great beauty tip and something I need to listen to more. There’s also a makeup artist that I work with, Patrick Ta, who has his own line of products, including monochromatic lipsticks and liners. I love using a lip liner, a dab of lipstick in the middle of my lips, and then I finish it with some Vaseline. It’s perfect and how I tend to finish off my everyday makeup look.

What’s your fave workout?

I love a great yoga class, but I can get bored really easily. I also love a dance class with great music that keeps you moving. My dad is a personal fitness trainer and works with me, so he constantly switches it up. We kick box, circuit training—it’s something new and fresh everyday.

If you’re in a gym all the time, it becomes so routine that it feels like a task. When it’s something new and different, it keeps you on your toes. We’ve all been working out together during this quarantine period, which has obviously been interesting because our workouts are completely different now. But we’re doing the best we can.

What’s your fave item of clothing?

I have this really great white tee from Vince that I’ve had for the longest time, and I still think is the perfect white tee. It’s a hard thing to come across, but when you nail it, you’ve got it. I re-wear it constantly.

What’s your fave rom-com?

13 Going On 30. I’ve seen it so many times at this point, and it still never gets old—that’s when you know.

What’s your fave movie snack?

I love Sour Patch Kids and Milk Duds. I can rip through a bag of popcorn before the movie starts, but there’s something about Milk Duds in a movie—they take some work to chew through, and they last you a while.

Do you have a fave sneaker?

Damn, that’s a hard question! I don’t know if I can answer that. I love sneakers, and I do that thing where I buy a new pair of sneakers and then don’t wear them because I’m afraid to get them dirty, which is ridiculous. Right now I’ve been alternating between Air Force Ones and my black leather high top Vans.

What’s your fave dish to cook at home?

I love a good taco night. It doesn’t require a lot, and my cooking abilities are not as strong as some of my others. You lay it all out, go down the line, pick out what you want, make your plate, and call it a day. Chicken tacos are my favorite. We just did a little taco night as a family, and my plate turned into a taco salad. It was just a bunch of everything thrown on the plate, topped with a bunch of avocado.

What’s your fave pair of jeans?

I actually just found a new favorite pair that I ordered online. They’re a high-waisted boyfriend jean from AGOLDE. I don’t like to shop online often, and I thought I would likely return them, but when I tried them on, they worked perfectly.

This Mom Threw Her Son a 21st Birthday Party at ‘Club Quarantine’ Because of the Coronavirus

It seems everything is on hold in the era of the coronavirus: schools, restaurants, stores. You name it. Bars across the nation are also shutting their doors to promote social distancing and try to keep the number of COVID-19 cases from completely overwhelming our health care system. But just because the clubs aren’t open doesn’t mean American kids have stopped turning 21.

One of those Gen-Zers is Jack Torchia, who returned from college to isolate with his family in New Jersey. When his plans to party with his family and friends fell through, his mother, Carolyn, took it upon herself to make sure he had the full club-hopping experience, even if it had to happen in her husband’s “man cave.”

At midnight on March 22, Jack’s 18-year-old sister, Emily, captured the whole thing before putting it on the popular social media app TikTok. It currently has over 4.5 million views.

“Let’s see some ID, please,” father/“security guard” Anthony Torchia requests before allowing his son to enter “Club Quarantine.”

His mother was situated behind the bar to provide drinks. “It’s our policy that we give you a free green tea shot,” she says in the video before pouring one out for her son, the “bouncer,” and herself.

Emily, who returned home from Penn State due to the coronavirus pandemic, told Glamour that this type of gesture is par for the course with her family. “My mom comes from a very big and passionate family, so we do stuff like this all the time, surprisingly,” she said over Instagram. “It took about a day since my garage is already a ‘man cave.’ My parents just moved stuff around and then added decorations!”

With two kids home from college earlier than expected, the Torchia family has been using this time to reconnect. “My family has always been very close, but this situation definitely made us closer, which I didn’t think was possible,” Emily said.

“My dad is the most excited, which is the funny part,” she adds about her parents’ reactions to their new TikTok fame. “My mom was very touched by the positive comments people wrote about them as parents, as well.”

It looks like these DIY birthday parties are becoming somewhat of a trend on TikTok and Twitter while the nation hunkers down to protect themselves and others from contracting COVID-19. CNN’s Saba Hamedy shared a few more of these makeshift celebrations on her Twitter:

Honestly, all these parents are killing it right now.
