According to the publication, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s newborn son took place at the latter couple’s Frogmore Cottage home. Not much else is known about the meet-up at this time—just that it happened.
Will and Kate’s reasoning for waiting a week to see Archie wasn’t shady. Rather, royals expert Omid Scobie explained on Good Morning America yesterday that Markle and Prince Harry wanted week one with their baby to be relatively quiet. This week, though, is all about the visitors, with Prince Charles expecting to stop by Frogmore Cottage on Thursday.
“We’re absolutely thrilled,” the Duke of Cambridge told reporters last week about Baby Sussex’s arrival. “We’re looking forward to seeing them in the next few days. I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep-deprivation society that is parenting.”
Middleton also talked to journalists with Prince William, adding, “It’s such a special time, and with Louis and Charlotte just having had their birthdays, it’s such a great time of the year to have a baby. Spring’s in the air and everything, so it’s pretty great.” (Prince Louis’ birthday is on April 23, while Princess Charlotte’s is on May 2.)
Markle and Prince Harry officially welcomed Archie early Monday morning, May 6. “It’s been great. Parenting is amazing,” the Duke of Sussex said at a photo call on May 8. “We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up.” Markle echoed his sentiment, saying, “It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
Every year the Met Gala brings the worlds of Hollywood and fashion together in spectacular fashion with the stars, designers, and glam squads all bringing their A-games to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year’s theme of “Fashion: Notes on Camp” certainly delivered with over-the-top creations and performance art (thanks, Lady Gaga!) on the pink carpet.
Diane von Furstenberg arrived dressed as the Statue of Liberty, with her own face on her gown. It was camp, but also appropriate given that both are iconic New York women. But there was actually a deeper meaning to DVF’s choice. The designer and philanthropist has helped to raise $100 million for the new Statue of Liberty museum, which opens on May 16.
The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, which was created in 1982 to raise funds to restore the Statue, recruited DVF to their board to help bring in the money needed for the massive project. DVF was hesitant to join the organization’s board at first. But the moment she decided it was a role she had to take on was when Stephen Briganti, the president of the foundation, underlined a passage from her book, The Woman I Wanted to Be. “My mother was a survivor of concentration camps for 13 months in 1944,” von Furstenberg said. “I was born after and she wrote me a note, which I included in my book. It said, ‘God saved me so that I can give you life. By giving you life, you gave me my life back. You are my torch of freedom.’ Stephen underlined that and said, see your mother said you are the torch of freedom, you have to do this.”
DVF was so successful in her role that the Foundation’s vice president and chief advancement officer, Richard Flood, called her the “godmother of Lady Liberty” during a press event this week. The designer said that she isn’t typically good at fundraising, but the Statue of Liberty “was an easy sell…somehow when you talk about it, everyone has a story, everyone has someone they want to honor.”
In addition to fundraising, DVF connected the foundation with with Apple to bring the experience to people who don’t have the opportunity to visit in person. “One day I’m sitting next to [Apple’s] Tim Cook and I start to mention the Statue of Liberty and he had never been,” DVF explained at the press gathering. “So I arranged for him to go and he was very much in awe. Then I said to him, ‘I really would like people to have an Apple experience.'” And thus, a great idea was born.
In conjunction with the opening of the new Statue of Liberty Museum, they are launching an augmented reality (AR) app, along with a podcast mini series. “It’s pretty amazing,” von Furstenberg said. “With this app, everybody in the world with an Apple phone or iPad will have access to the museum, the history. The goal was to give this experience, the opening of this museum, to a billion people. So it will be the biggest opening of a museum ever.”

Apple
The app is packed with cool features like a torch panorama where you can experience the view of the island and New York City from the vantage point of Lady Liberty’s torch from sunrise to sunset. (Actual visitors haven’t been able to do this IRL sine 1916.) Users can also explore the statue itself, as well as a look inside the iron tower structure created by Gustav Eiffel. A historical time-lapse function allows you to see the evolution of the Manhattan skyline over the past 200 years. It’s packed with so much incredible historical knowledge and packaged with the most modern technology available—a pretty incredible combo. (Download it here.)
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their son, Archie, last Monday, and there are two very important people who still haven’t met him yet: Kate Middleton and Prince William. The reason for this, though, isn’t as shady as the tabloids and Internet would like to think. Rather, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex simply wanted their first week with Archie to be low-key without a ton of visitors.
“Archie’s first week at home with mom and dad was quiet,” royals expert Omid Scobie said on Good Morning America today, May 13. “They wanted that personal space with their newborn. This week, it’s all about the visitors with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visiting tomorrow and the Prince of Wales [Prince Charles, Harry and William’s father] visiting later this week.”
Scobie reiterated this on Twitter, as well, writing, “Sources confirm that Prince William and Duchess Kate will be meeting baby Archie for the first time early this week. Grandfather Prince Charles will be paying a visit a few days later.”
This makes sense, when you think about it. Parents typically wait at least a few days—if not weeks or months—before introducing their newborn children to extended family. Kate Middleton and Prince William probably just wanted to give Markle and Prince Harry some room to breathe before showering baby Archie with presents. There’s nothing to see here, truly.
Middleton and Prince William showed their love for baby Archie from afar last week. “We’re absolutely thrilled,” the Duke of Cambridge told reporters. “We’re looking forward to seeing them in the next few days. I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep-deprivation society that is parenting.”
The duchess echoed these sentiments and pointed out that Archie’s birthday closely aligns with two of her children’s: Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte. “It’s such a special time, and with Louis and Charlotte just having had their birthdays, it’s such a great time of the year to have a baby,” she said. “Spring’s in the air and everything, so it’s pretty great.”
Markle and Prince Harry shared a few photos of Archie to the @SussexRoyal Instagram account last week. Their most recent post, published Sunday, is in honor of Mother’s Day and includes a snap of Archie’s feet.
“Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered,” the post reads. “We honor and celebrate each and every one of you.”
No red carpet is as hotly anticipated as the one at the Met Gala, especially given that this year’s “Camp” theme is guaranteed to turn out some truly unforgettable looks. The annual Costume Institute Benefit—a.k.a. the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala—is such a big deal for the fashion-obsessed it’s earned itself nicknames like “the East Coast Oscars” and “Fashion Prom.” But for those of us as equally excitable about celebrity hair and makeup, today is the unofficial anniversary for major celebrity makeovers.
Exhibit A: 2017’s red carpet, birthplace of Taylor Swift’s platinum hair debut and punk alter ego. Exhibit B: Any of these Met Gala beauty moments from last year. Exhibit C: This year’s Met Gala 2019 red carpet. Go ahead and scroll through every look you won’t want to miss—and be sure to check back. We’ll be updating this gallery as more photos and product details emerge throughout the night.
McDreamy is officially so 2015. As first reported by People, Josh Radnor—perhaps best known for playing Ted Mosby How I Met Your Mother—has joined Grey’s Anatomy as a new love interest for Ellen Pompeo’s character, Meredith Grey.
Details of his role are being kept under wraps, but ABC was nice enough to give us a few clues about his arrival: He and Meredith get set up on a “hot” blind date by friends in an episode that will air October 11. The network hasn’t specified whether or not Radnor will be sticking around for more than one episode, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Radnor, as you probably know, spent nine seasons as the beleaguered architect and college professor Ted Mosby on HIMYM, in which his quest to find his children’s “mother” was recounted years later to his children. He has since headlined the period drama Mercy Street and the musical drama Rise, but both were met with quick cancellations.
As for Pompeo, she’s hinted in a recent interview that when her current Grey’s contract expires—at the conclusion of season 16—she might leave the show to explore other career opportunities. “I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any kind of formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories we can tell. It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change,” she explained. “I think I’ve had an amazing training. I’ve had a master class in producing these last 14 years. I know every aspect of making a television show. Producing and directing is where I’m challenged and where I’m learning. It’s more interesting to me because it’s a skill I haven’t mastered yet.”

While sad, we can’t wait to see what she does next, should she indeed choose to leave. And in the meantime, we’re looking forward to her latest coupling.
Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse haven’t said the words “We’re dating” yet, but there’s plenty of evidence on social media that suggests they’re at least more than friends. Take Sprouse’s Instagram post from September 13, for example, in which he calls Reinhart his “muse” and his “love.” Reinhart said something similar to Sprouse on Instagram for his birthday in August, writing, “I’m so thankful that our paths intertwined to form this beautiful adventure. Happy birthday, my love.” I think it’s safe to say these two are quite found of each other—and have no problem talking about it.
But this wasn’t always the case. In fact, Reinhart’s first impression of Sprouse wasn’t exactly positive. “I thought his voice was annoying,” she tells Glamour in the video, above. “That was my first impression. I was like, ‘That guy’s got an annoying voice.’ And now it’s grown on me.”
This is just one of many things Reinhart and Sprouse say about each other in this video. We had both them and three of their other costars—Casey Cott, Madelaine Petsch, and Vanessa Morgan—complete friendship exercises, and the result is just delightful. It’s beyond clear from this eight-minute clip that this cast thinks the world of each other, which makes their chemistry on Riverdale all the more sweet.
“[Lili is] one of those people that consistently pushes me to be better at the arts that I’m pursuing, and that’s just the kind of person she is,” Sprouse says about Reinhart at the beginning of the video. “She inspires excellent out of everybody she works with.”
