Priyanka Chopra Didn't Think She'd Marry Nick Jonas—But This Is What Changed Her Mind

Can you even remember when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas weren’t a couple? We hardly can, either—it’s almost like they’ve just been in our lives this entire time, having amazing triple dates with the rest of the Jonas Brothers, live-Instagramming their vacations, and buying each other awesomely luxurious gifts.

Of course, that’s not actually true, and in a recent appearance, Chopra gave some insight into the newlywed’s relationship—including her nickname for Nick. “I call him ‘Old Man Jonas.’ That’s my name for him, ‘OMJ,’” Chopra said during a panel at Tina Brown’s 10th Annual Women in the World Summit, according to People. “He’s such an old soul, extremely smart, so good for me because he grounds me so much. I’m a wild child, I do whatever I want, whenever I want and he always supports me.”

But Chopra, who is 10 years older than her husband, admits she didn’t necessarily see beyond the surface when the two first met. “I’ve known him for two years. I didn’t think that this is what it [would’ve] turned out to be, and that’s maybe that’s my fault. I judged a book by its cover,” she said. “When I actually started dating Nick, he surprised me so much.”

So here’s what changed her mind about getting serious with Jonas: During a date early in their relationship, Chopra told Jonas she had to leave for a meeting but kept hinting that maybe she could cancel it. He wasn’t having it, though, and showed some real respect for her work ethic in the process. “Finally he took me aside, and he’s like, ‘Look, I’m not stupid. I know what you’re trying to do, but I will never be the one who will tell you to cancel work because I know how hard you’ve worked to be where you are,'” she said. “‘So if you could’ve canceled it, you would’ve done it. I’ll take our friends out for dinner, we’ll wait for you, and you finish your meeting and come back.’”

“He gave me credit for what I had done. It was just mind-blowing for me,” she continued.

It’s official: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are relationship goals. Take note, dudes.

Ariana Grande Says She and Pete Davidson Will Marry 'Next Year'

For a while, it seemed like you couldn’t check the news without yet another whirlwind celebrity engagement taking over your feed. Now that things have calmed down, though, it seems those newly engaged couples—Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson, Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas—are taking their time planning their respective weddings. Latest to claim she won’t be walking down the aisle until 2019 is Grande, who opened up about her and Davidson’s relationship to Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan in a new interview this week.

Though the pair confirmed their engagement only a few weeks after making their relationship Instagram official, Grande told Strahan that she and Davidson are in no rush to wed. “We’re gonna take our time to plan it. We’ve been planning, and my friends and I, my mom, and everybody have been, like, brainstorming and sharing ideas and stuff, and it’s really fun,” the pop star said. “I work so much. I’ve never spent this much time or energy planning something personal that feeds my soul so much and my heart.”

“I’m going to cry, I’m so excited. It’s sick. It’s really fun,” she continued, but clarified that the wedding won’t be “soon soon.” According to Grande, it’ll be sometime “next year.”

Grande also explained to Strahan how she knew the Saturday Night Live star was her match. “I mean, it’s just, like, a feeling, you know? That’s so cheesy. People are always like, ‘When you know, you know,’ and you’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, whatever, OK. Yeah, OK.'” But it’s true: When Strahan dug deeper, asking how Grande knew Davidson was her “soulmate,” as she refers to him on the song on her new album Sweetener that’s named after him, she said, “You just feel it, you know? He just ticks every box and just gets better every day, and I’m very grateful for him. Life is beautiful.”

Rose Leslie Literally Doesn't Have Time to Marry Kit Harington

Game of Thrones fans let out a collective, “awww” a few months ago when news broke about Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s engagement. The two co-stars confirmed in September they’re tying the knot via a formal announcement in London’s Times newspaper. “The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire,” read the announcement, which was retweeted and shared thousands of times on social media.

The months since then have been filled with stories about Harington and Leslie’s relationship and engagement. Harington revealed in October that he actually messed up his proposal to Leslie. “I did have some plans to do it; I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff, but we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine, and…I popped my question a bit early,” he said, according to The Sun. Later, he revealed Game of Thrones will actually have to shut down for their wedding because…everyone’s invited.

So when are these actual nuptials happening? Well, according to Leslie’s new interview with Town & Country, it might be a while. The actress joked to the publication that she’s trying to “fit in” her wedding with the hectic GoT filming schedule. “I haven’t tackled it,” she said. “There’s just too much to do.”

Which is understandable. Wedding planning is no joke—even for people who aren’t on a hit HBO series. Fingers crossed it happens some time in 2018, though, so we can have two royal weddings.

Miley Cyrus Reveals She Has No Plans to Marry Liam Hemsworth in the Immediate Future

PHOTO: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

It’s settled (for now, at least): Miley Cyrus has no plans to marry Liam Hemsworth in the immediate future. After fielding so many marriage rumors we can’t keep track of them all, the singer set the record straight by telling The Sun that she doesn’t “envision marriage.” “I’m 24,” she told the publication, according to Page Six. “I hope I get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do.” She’s still wearing the engagement ring he gave her in 2012 though, and we don’t blame her. It’s a gorgeous Neil Lane creation with a cushion-cut diamond and 18K gold band that she appears to be casually sporting in her photoshoot for her single “Malibu.” (Sneaky!)

“Three years ago, if you’d asked me if I’d be here, this happy with this man, I’d have been stunned,” Cyrus added. “I’m just riding this out. In some relationships, you lose yourself by being with someone else. Actually, it made me find myself more. I have no idea what the next three years will bring, but if it’s possible to get even happier, I’ll take it.”

Cyrus continued that she didn’t know she would get back with Hemsworth in 2016 after breaking it off with him in 2013. “I’m so crazy I have no idea, but I had something in my heart, it never felt like it was really over,” she said. “We kept a great friendship really private.” In fact, if they hadn’t gone their separate ways, their relationship wouldn’t be as strong today, she said. “It’s good for people to have that space to grow individually. Otherwise, when you’re with someone from 16 until 24, you grow into the same person,” she said. “We got to become individuals. I hope everything stays the same. It feels like nothing changed except we grew up a lot.”

The whole Milliam (Miam? Liley?) saga has kept fans on their toes since the pair announced the rekindling of their engagement last January, with more twists, turns, leaks, and spoilers than your average Game of Thrones season.

In case you’ve forgotten (and we wouldn’t blame you), the last marriage rumor dropped in March, when Cyrus’s father Billy Ray Cyrus posted a pic on Instagram of the singer in a white dress, captioned “I’m so happy … you are happy.” He quickly put that rumor to bed after sending fans in a tizzy, changing the caption to “Don’t jump the gun!” And just two months before that, an unnamed source claimed that Cyrus and Hemsworth had gotten hitched in a super-secret New Year’s Eve wedding, with suspiciously nuptial Instagram pics to fuel the fire. And before that…well, you get the idea. Here’s hoping this latest advancement puts a stop to the false flags once and for all.

Thank You, Edith Windsor, for Helping Make It Possible for Me to Marry My Girlfriend

I’m getting married next month, and I can’t overstate just how happy I am about it. There won’t be a big ceremony, nor will there be a lavish reception or extravagant honeymoon. There will simply be me, there will be my fiancée, and there will be a legal document telling the world what we’ve known all along: that we are two women who are madly in love and plan to stay that way for the next half-century or so. It’s almost hard to believe that just a few short years ago, none of this would be possible.

Edith Windsor helped change all that, for me and for millions of others. Sadly, the 88-year-old plaintiff in the landmark 2013 Supreme Court ruling that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and paved the way for full marriage equality died on Tuesday in New York, survived by her wife, Judith Kasen-Windsor.

In 2007, after a 40-year engagement, Windsor married Dr. Thea Spyer in Canada. When Spyer died two years later, Windsor inherited her estate. Rather than receiving tax benefits and exemptions ordinarily afforded to surviving spouses, she was hit with more than $363,000 in taxes simply because she married a woman (thanks to DOMA’s stipulation that same-sex couples were barred from receiving legal recognition as spouses on a federal level). It wasn’t fair, and Windsor wasn’t about to go down without a fight.

The case, which argued that same-sex couples were being singled out and deprived equal treatment under the law, was affirmed by the Supreme Court in a 5-4 ruling, helping to set up the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision that would effectively make marriage equality the law of the land, nationwide. The victory was a stunning and somewhat unexpected win for the lesbian, gay, and bisexual rights movement. Though Windsor’s own personal advocacy went back decades, casual observers could be forgiven for thinking that the leap forward happened overnight.

“Married is a magic word,” Windsor said at a 2009 rally outside City Hall in Manhattan. “And it is magic throughout the world. It has to do with our dignity as human beings, to be who we are openly. People see us differently. We heard from hundreds of people, from every stage of our lives, pouring out congratulations. Thea looks at her ring every day and thinks of herself as a member of a special species that can love and couple, ‘until death do us part.’”

Thanks to Windsor, to Obergefell, to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer activists going back decades, we all now have access to that “magic,” and to that “dignity” she spoke of. This isn’t to say that Windsor’s or Obergefell’s cases were some great end point for L.G.B.T.Q rights—if there’s one thing the Trump administration has demonstrated in its first months in office, it’s that those of us who care about equality must remain vigilant in fighting to protect what gains have been made and working to expand them. These wins demonstrate that victories once seen as impossible are, in fact, within reach.

Just 20 years ago, only 27 percent of Americans thought same-sex marriages should have legal recognition. Now, that number stands at 64 percent and continues to climb. Windsor’s victory is a shining example of what it looks like to never give up on love, even in the face of some very long odds.

So when I get married next month, with a smile on my face and love in my heart, I’ll be thinking fondly of Edith Windsor, the woman who helped make it all possible.
