Meghan Markle Is in Labor, Buckingham Palace Confirms

It’s happening, people: Meghan Markle is in labor. Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on Monday, May 6. “The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning. The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side. An announcement will be made soon,” the palace wrote in a statement.

In October, news broke that Markle and Prince Harry were expecting their first child, and a few months later we learned her expected due date was in late April/early May. The speculation about when Markle would give birth has been wild, especially these last few weeks, so Buckingham Palace released a rare statement saying it would announce when she was in labor. It appears the palace stayed true to its word.

This story is breaking and developing. Come back here for all your Meghan Markle updates.

Why Royal Baby Watchers Definitely Thought Meghan Markle Went Into Labor on Friday

Royal baby watchers flew into a tizzy on Friday, when, according to the UK’s Express, an ambulance was spotted near Frogmore Cottage. That just so happens to be the new home Markle shares with her husband, Prince Harry.

Given that the Duchess of Sussex’s due date is reportedly at the end of April or beginning of May—and, well, it happened to be April 26—the timing seemed pretty perfect for it to be a sign that Baby Sussex was finally on his or her way.

Plus, Markle’s mom Doria Ragland is already in town, too. They skipped Easter services with the rest of the royal family, but Kate Middleton and Prince William popped by after church for a visit.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a false alarm: South Central Ambulance Service, which serves Windsor, told People later on Friday that the mystery ambulance was just a driver training vehicle. The magazine also notes that Markle probably won’t be going anywhere in an emergency vehicle unless there’s, well, an emergency, nor would there be one slated to be on standby.

“South Central Ambulance Service will continue to care for all patients in Windsor in the usual way,” the organization said in a statement to People. “It is not possible to comment on the general movement of ambulances around the Windsor area and patient confidentiality must be respected at all times. Furthermore, we do not comment on operational matters relating to members of the Royal Household.”

Of course, we probably won’t know right away if the royal baby has been born: Prince Harry and Markle have already said that they will be keeping the birth details private, so we won’t be getting a Kate Middleton-style hospital photo shoot after the baby arrives. In fact, we’re not even sure where the duchess will be giving birth. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby,” a statement from Buckingham Palace read. “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

All in all, we’re just hoping Markle has a safe and happy labor—we can’t wait to meet little Baby Sussex.

Here's How Karlie Kloss, Mindy Kaling, and Other Celebrities Celebrated Labor Day Weekend

Even though the three-day Labor Day weekend marks the ever-so-sad end of summer, at the very least we get a few days to enjoy sunshine, warm weather, last trips to the beach—and perhaps even get out of town for a little vacation. As we mourn wearing our favorite summer dresses for the final time (and shop those Labor Day sales in anticipation of the season to come), we should also enjoy our final hurrah in the sun—something that plenty of celebrities did extremely well over the long holiday weekend.

Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and other stars took to Instagram to post pics of their Labor Day weekend—and let’s just say it looks like they had a great time, from outings with family to binging Netflix shows, which, to be honest, is beyond relatable. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra and her fiancé, Nick Jonas, took to the mountains of California for a little getaway.

From lounging on a beach to binging Netflix, scroll through to see how celebrities kissed the summer goodbye:

Mindy Kaling binged on Netflix and ate some ice cream:

“Ok just finished @setitupnetflix and @Asekar95 and I have a LOT of thoughts and feelings! Watch our stories for our review. Have you watched it? Are you obsessed like we are? Also — thank you @Netflix for allowing us the ability to binge on rom-coms and popcorn in full day light. #LaborDayWeekend.”

When your ice cream matches your outfit…. ?? Happy #LaborDay everyone! ?

Zendaya celebrated her 22nd birthday (happy birthday!) in London.

“Keeping this energy as I enter my 22nd year of life.”

Millie Bobby Brown chilled on a lake:

“holidazeeee.”

Emily Ratajkowski went on a beachy Segway ride:

'Crazy Rich Asians' Just Had the Best Labor Day Weekend the Box Office Has Seen in a Decade

Crazy Rich Asians is certifiably the movie of the summer. Since its opening in mid-August, the film has won both critical and fan acclaim thanks to its highly obsess-able plot line, incredible fashion, and its casting (it was the first cast to feature actors who were all of Asian descent since 1993’s Joy Luck Club). And it’s making a boatload of money to boot: The movie raked in more than $26 million over its opening weekend and has held the No. 1 box office spot in the U.S. ever since—and now, it’s set to make box office history again.

The movie’s expected to make up to an additional $30 million by the end of the Labor Day weekend, which means it will be the best performing movie over the holiday in more than a decade. The only other film to make $30 million over Labor Day holiday was 2007’s Halloween, according to Business Insider,.

But that’s not all. According to Forbes, the movie has already surpassed other major romantic comedy winners including 2015’s Trainwreck, 2016’s Bad Moms, and 2017’s Girls Trip—meaning it’s now one of the biggest romantic comedies in recent film history. All it needs to do now is surpass 2002’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which made $283 million.

To date, Crazy Rich Asians has grossed more than $111 million at the domestic box office—and you can bet there’s a sequel or two coming our way. According to Rolling Stone, Warner Bros. has already obtained the rights to author Kevin Kwan’s follow-up novels China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems. Director Jon M. Chu will return to helm the production of China Rich Girlfriends, though there’s no official word yet on casting or a release date. But at least this way you still have plenty of time to read all the books—and obsess over the wardrobes of incredible couture—first.

Blake Lively Apparently Drove Herself to the Hospital While in Labor

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have the most wonderful social media relationship—and, we’re pretty sure, real-life relationship too. (Reynolds has, after all, called being Lively’s husband the “best gig”.) As it turns out, their partnership holds fast even during critical moments—like, say, when Lively was in labor and needing to head straight for the hospital.

In a tweet that is also not-so-subtly a promo for Lively’s upcoming movie, A Simple Favor, Reynolds threw in a little factoid guaranteed to get headlines: “You can tell me. We’re married. You once drove me to the hospital when you were giving birth. So… what the fuck happened to Emily?” (Emphasis ours.)

He was replying to this emoji-filled tweet from Lively, which was also teasing her movie: “❓????❓ @ASimpleFavor”

After Ryan’s response, Lively chimed back in: “Oh darling, of all the secrets I’m keeping from you, this should be the LEAST of your concerns… trust me.”

This isn’t the first time Lively/her team have harnessed her social media to promo A Simple Favor. At the beginning of May, she wiped her Instagram clean, replacing her bio with “What Happened to Emily?…”. For those of us who follow Lively’s self-styled outfits, this was an egregious blow, but she luckily had it back up and running in no time.

Nor is it the first instance of a little social media back-and-forth for her and hubby Reynolds. The two are experts at trolling each other, like that one time when Reynolds wished Lively a happy birthday with a picture of the two of them—but cropped her out of it. Now that one of their daughters is in on the tradition, too, we’re just ready for the next installment.
