Kim Kardashian Posted an Instagram Ad for an Appetite-Suppressing Lollipop, and Twitter Is Not Happy

Kim Kardashian—like several of her relatives—is no stranger to using her platform on Instagram to make a few bucks. But her latest product-endorsing post, for a Flat Tummy Co. lollipop that claims to be appetite-suppressing, has crossed a line, as far as her followers are concerned.

The image of her sucking on a cherry-red pop included the following caption: “#ad You guys… @flattummyco just dropped a new product. They’re Appetite Suppressant Lollipps and they’re literally unreal.” She went on the urge her followers to check out the website and get some for themselves.

Kardashian has since deleted the post, likely as a result of the fierce backlash it stirred up across social media platforms. Fans and critics alike have called out how problematic it is for Kim to advertise diet products like this—which aren’t proven safe or effective, and can encourage disordered eating—to her 111 million followers.

Good Place actress Jameela Jamil, who’s outspoken about body-positivity (and whom you might remember from the viral “I Weigh” Instagram account) did not mince words in a thread of tweets about Kardashian’s post.

“MAYBE don’t take appetite suppressors and eat enough to fuel your BRAIN and work hard and be successful. And to play with your kids. And to have fun with your friends. And to have something to say about your life at the end, other than ‘I had a flat stomach,'” she continued, ending with GIF-y flair.

Others on Twitter called out how troubling this kind of promo can be for people who struggle with food, and offered up some cool-headed advice to try instead of tricking your body into not eating.“With every flat tummy tea, lollipop, magical weight loss trick promoted, there’s someone with disordered eating thinking they need it,” one user wrote. “I understand that we live in a thin-obsessed society but we need to do better. We need to teach/learn healthy relationships with food,” added another.

In January, Kardashian also promoted a program from Flat Belly Co., which featured her holding milk in her underwear while drinking…something else?

And she’s not the only one in her family: Kylie Jenner infamously endorsed waist trainers that came as part of a “snap-back” package after she gave birth, perpetuating the pressure women feel to “fix” their post-baby bodies.

The Kardashian-Jenners are famous, in large part, for their looks, and so it makes sense that they’d use these assets to make some money. That can be empowering when done right—which would mean when promoting body-positivity, self-love, and healthy behaviors to their massive followings. Instead, they let down their millions of followers by making a quick buck on some potentially dangerous snake oil.

People may not follow Kim Kardashian for verifiable health advice, but surely she knows that her claims can come across that way—even the kooky ones.

'Opal Hair' Is Trending on Instagram, and It's the Coolest New Spin on Pastel

The world of Instagram hair color trends can seem endless, but you have to hand it to the Internet for the sheer creativity involved with naming these colors: Take “mulled wine” hair or “cinnamon chocolate,” but if you’re looking for something fresh, it doesn’t get cooler than opal hair.

From the chill 18,931 tagged photos of “opal hair” on Instagram, the trend draws on everything good about the unicorn and mermaid trends that dominated 2017. Think a light, peachy color on a platinum base, mixed with silvery pinks and hints of ice blue.

If you went platinum last year and want to get the most out of it, opal hair’s loose mix of purple, pink, oranges, and blues is a gorgeous way to go. A quick scroll through the options proves that it’s endlessly customizable: Skew it more purple and you can go amethyst, while a heavier hand with the pastels takes you into a totally new look.

But as people with dark hair know, it’s tough to get those light, shimmering tints to show up on anything deeper than dirty blond. In response, some hairstylists have come up with a darker spin on the color, and dubbed it “opal-oil slick” hair.

Still, the one downside to opal hair is that if you don’t start out blond or make your way there, it’ll be a battle to get in on the trend. That said: With Olaplex, anything is possible.

Selena Gomez Just Unfollowed Almost 300 Friends on Her Instagram

Selena Gomez is starting her new year off with a little social media purge: The singer just cleared the decks of her Instagram follows, unfollowing a reported 279 people—including some of her friends and even her assistant. She’s also changed her profile pic to one of her mom, Mandy.

Her follow list went from 316 to 37 people on Saturday afternoon. Among the celebs she unfollowed are Gigi Hadid and Demi Lovato—but she’s still following Taylor Swift, Amy Schumer, her stylist, her friends from her NYE trip to Cabo, and lots of fashion accounts and fan pages. She’s also still following Fracia Raisa, her kidney donor and longtime best friend.

So…is this celeb drama or a new-year-new-social-media-brand-strategy? As Elle points out, Gomez’s Instagram account is run by her assistant (the same one she unfollowed)—so unless something major was going on, it might just be a shift in her online branding. She’s also spoken out about how social media was affecting her mental health in an interview last year after she became the platform’s most-followed person. “I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”

On the plus side, she did add an emotional, touching photo of her sitting on the front steps of the house that she grew up in. “The home I grew up in, from birth to 13 … I visit this place every chance I get. In many ways it has been better than my life today, but I’m grateful for a voice that can enable change today,” she said. “Even when I do not know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you. ❤️”

Kourtney Kardashian Is Definitely Trolling Us With Her Latest Instagram

In case you hadn’t noticed, the Kardashian-Jenner family is pretty big. Not only are there five sisters and brother Rob, but now there are also a few next-gen kids running around too. That includes Kim Kardashian‘s adorable children North and Saint, Kourtney‘s kids Mason, Penelope and Reign, Rob’s daughter Dream, and a few more on the way.

With all this in mind, it’s understandable that getting the entire brood together for a family Christmas photo is incredibly difficult—and that’s what apparently happened to the growing family on Christmas Eve during Kris Kardashian’s annual holiday bash.

In an Instagram photo from the party posted on Saturday, Kourtney wrote, “When you can’t find the rest of the family for the photo …” along with a snapshot of her, her sisters Khloé, Kim, and Kendall, mom Kris, daughter Penelope and niece North in front of a few lavishly decorated Christmas trees.

While the photo was certainly fierce, especially with an adorable and very pregnant Khloé standing tall with her glittering silver jumpsuit, fans were instead disappointed to once again be missing out on any photos of Kylie.

“It’s legit just kylie missing and your just not showing her because you’re trying to surprise us with something we already know,” one fan wrote in the Instagram captions.

Kylie, as People pointed out, only appeared in two public photos from the event: one with sister Khloé and the other with her boyfriend Travis Scott.

“Kylie looked great but didn’t really draw any attention to her baby bump,” a source who attended the Christmas bash told People. “She still acts like she wants to keep her pregnancy private.”

Of course, her absence could (could!) just be because she wasn’t around when the photo was taken. Moreover, it’s not like she was the only member of the family to not be in the photo: Her brother Rob, brother-in-law Kanye, Reign, Mason and Saint were all missing from the photo too. Then again, who really knows anymore? We’ll just have to see what 2018 brings us—now that we know we probably won’t receive any intel from the family until then.

Kim Kardashian Deleted and Replaced Her Family on Instagram for the #Aesthetic

As 2017 slowly wound to a close this month, we were treated each day to a piece of the glorious jigsaw puzzle that was the Kardashian family 2017 Christmas card, a series of pictures of the family released, like an advent calendar, one day at a time on Instagram. And while those Gap ad-esque images live on through photographer Eli Russell Linnetz’s account, they’ve been wiped from Kim Kardashian West’s. Why? #Aesthetic, duh. Ever since returning to social media following her temporary withdrawal from public life in the aftermath of being robbed in Paris, Kardashian West has stuck to a social media diet of filtered, curated images and posts. In a word, her Instagram is artsy now, and she wasn’t about to let something as trivial as a family photo mess that up.

“Was always the plan,” she explained to a worried fan on Twitter, lest anyone think a family feud caused the deletion “I archieved [sic] them so my instagram feed vibe is back”.

Yes, Instagram archives are a thing, and yes, the vibe is very much back! And because Kim celebrates not just Christmas but all holidays (let’s not get political; there are lots of holidays and it’s cool, it’s fine, please calm down), she replaced the countdown posts with a glamorous shot of herself with her husband Kanye West and their two children, Saint and North.

“Happy Holidays.”

Now that her Instagram vibe is all sorted out, Kim can focus on her 2018 resolution: putting her phone down! “My New Year’s resolution is to be on my phone less and be more in the moment,” she wrote on her website and app, per E! News. Same, Kim. Hard same.

Then again, if Kim isn’t on her phone, who will take us on a virtual tour of J. Lo’s taco night?

This Very Patient Instagram Husband Is Living Proof Love Exists

A glimpse of the world’s most patient Instagram husband doing what he does best was captured on Christmas Eve by his son Taylor. The Instagram husband can be seen in his natural habitat—the living room—filming his beloved wife making snow angels on what looks like a very fluffy white rug.

Taylor’s mom Libby, according to her website, is a Beachbody fitness coach based out of Louisiana, so DIYing her own “snow” was definitely necessary in the warm winter climate. The son, Taylor, was apparently home for Christmas and was able to witness the utter delight that ensued.

“I’ve learned more about love from watching my dad reluctantly rearrange the living room so my mom can make snow angel boomerangs for her 29 Instagram followers than anything else in life,” her son captioned his tweets. Look—even the light above his dad’s head looks like a halo above this Instagram angel.

The resulting Boomerang was indeed worth the effort. “Make your own snow ? in Louisiana ?,” she captioned it. “#merrychristmas #snowangel #falalalala #libbfit #retrosweatshirt #familyfun #joytotheworld”

Check out the behind-the-scenes…

…and the wonderful final product.

Let it be known that the 29 followers have since ballooned up to more than 5,000. Way to go, Instagram husband and Twitter son. Way to go.
