Everything Tracee Ellis Ross Wore to Host the 2018 American Music Awards

Remember that time Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the 2017 American Music Awards and planned nine full outfit changes, from vintage Halston to sparkly-and-fringed Michael Kors? If you were expecting anything less for her second go at the gig… Well, you must not be too familiar with Tracee Ellis Ross’s approach to fashion.

The Black-ish star headlined the 2018 AMAs, and she brought some show-stopping looks with her. She and stylist Karla Welch had been teasing her wardrobe on social media ahead of the big event. This time, Ellis Ross revealed, they took a very meaningful approach to picking out her wardrobe: The host showcased black fashion designers throughout the evening, from Pyer Moss on the red carpet to Dapper Dan for Gucci for her opening number. (You might remember that Issa Rae also wore exclusively black designers when she hosted the 2018 CFDA Awards back in May.) “We have a really specific theme this year—a story that I’m telling about who is making all of the clothes… That feels really special to me and very exciting, and that was sort of our guiding force and kind of the marching orders I gave Karla in how to go out and hunt for things in that particular theme,” Ellis Ross told People ahead of the show. She shared all of her outfit credits on Twitter.

From the red carpet to the send-off, see every single outfit and designer Tracee Ellis Ross wore to host the 2018 AMAs.

A Talk Show Host Just Called Out Rihanna on Her Iconic Wine Glass Heists

Rihanna and four other members of the Ocean’s 8 cast—namely, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, and Helena Bonham Carter—appeared on The Graham Norton show last night to promote the film’s much-anticipated international release. But the movie wasn’t the only heist (did you see those box-office numbers??) to be talked about on the show: The show’s eponymous host, Graham Norton, had a little bone to pick to Rihanna about her iconic, repeated, heist-y behavior of her own. Behavior that includes an alleged appropriation of wine glasses from public drinking establishments.

While Norton is just grilling Rihanna on her habit now, eagle-eyed RiRi fans have been loving her crystalline accessory on social media since 2016. One Twitter user in particular, Josh Edwards, went so far as to create a dedicated, comprehensive thread for the wine glass sightings instance on his account.

“All I’m saying is, watch yourself around Rihanna,” Norton started off by saying. “Now, Rihanna. I don’t know if you know how criminal you are.”

Norton then presented the audience with intense photographic evidence of Rihanna, time after time, smuggling glasses out of establishments and onto the street. He started with a 2013 photo of the pop powerhouse holding a glass on the street. (Yes, it seems this habit has been going on for at least half a decade.) He then proceeded, bravely, to ask RiRi, “Did you ask permission from the club when you left holding this glass?”

Rihanna had an excellent retort: “That might have been one I took to the club.”

“What about this one? Did you ask about that glass?” Norton said after he showed his second piece of photographic evidence of Rihanna. He then proceeded to show four more instances in which the “Wild Thoughts” singer left with various different wine glasses in hand. Norton topped it off with the grand finale: Rihanna holding an entire bottle of wine.

Below, a few instances of Rihanna taking her wine to go:

After sufficient proof of her “crimes”, Rihanna conceded his point. Mostly though, she was worried about what her mom, Monica Fenty, would think: “My mom is going to see this,” she conceded. “Sorry, Mom!”

Celebrities Stand in Solidarity with Former E! News Host Catt Sadler

On the heels of Catt Sadler’s sudden—and for some, shocking—departure from E! News Wednesday, many female celebrities have taken to social media to commend Sadler on her statement-making exit, applauding her for shining a much-needed light on wage inequity and gender biases in Hollywood.

Earlier this week, the TV host left the entertainment news program—on which she’s been a fixture for more than a decade—citing a “massive disparity in pay” with cohost Jason Kennedy and noting that her aforementioned male colleague made nearly double her own salary.

Since then, stars from Jennifer Lawrence to Olivia Munn have voiced their support for the former E! News host. On Wednesday, Lawrence posted an article from Sadler’s blog in which the former E! star penned about her departure; alongside the article, Lawrence writes words of encouragement for Sadler, applauding her candor. See for yourself, below:

Actress Jessica Chastain also chimed in on Twitter, voicing her dismay for this blatant injustice and calling on companies to do better:

“It’s so disappointing to find out that @enews—a network that depends on female viewers—felt your value was worth only half of your male counterpart,” Olivia Munn wrote in a Tweet on Wednesday. She followed up with: “It’s not easy to do what you did. I’m so proud of you for it.”

Outlander‘s Caitriona Balfe also joined Munn in rebuking E! Entertainment for “their lack of respect,” calling the network “absolutely shameful”:

It seems Sadler’s powerful and poignant departure has not gone unnoticed, or more importantly, unvalued—especially among women in Hollywood, who for so long have felt the brunt of the wage gap’s villainy. “Our actions must be in alignment with our beliefs,” Sadler responded to the outpouring of support she received on social media. “As painful as it was to leave, I have been empowered by so many other courageous women. It made doing the right thing my only choice.”

Right on, Catt.

2017 American Music Awards: Every Single Outfit Tracee Ellis Ross Wore to Host

In the past week, we’ve discovered that Tracee Ellis Ross isn’t only the life coach we didn’t know we needed, but also the ideal award show host. That’s right, the Golden Globe-winning actress is the right combination of charisma, comedic timing, and energy to keep us tuned in for a three-hour-plus program, but she can also slay multiple outfit changes like it’s nothing. (Well, stylist Karla Welch certainly lent a helping hand.) To go from a long-sleeved, totally-sequined Stella McCartney gown to a sculptural, bronze pleated dress by Roland van der Kemp, to then segue into vintage Diana Ross-inspired looks, including a white suit that was a direct callback to the time her mom famously twinned with Michael Jackson in 1981 (featuring the original bedazzled blouse, dug out from Ross’ garage, to boot), and look impeccable every single time? Only Tracee.

The Black-ish star followed in AMAs host tradition and orchestrated multiple outfit changes throughout the night. (As a refresher: Jennifer Lopez clocked in 12 in 2015; Gigi Hadid had six last year.) In total, Ellis Ross donned 11 separate lewks throughout the broadcast, each one instantly iconic. (The only one not pictured below: a long-sleeved metallic dress she wore to introduce P!nk’s performance.) Relive the greatness that was her host wardrobe, right here.
