Emily Blunt Is Absolute Magic in the First Full *Mary Poppins Returns* Trailer


The first full-length trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, Disney’s highly-anticipated reboot starring Emily Blunt, is here, and it’s good. Very good.

This new film centers on the Banks “kids,” who are now grown up with children of their own. It’s up to Mary to remind them that life can still be full of magic (even as adults), and she does so with plenty of singing and dancing. Chicago director Rob Marshall is at the helm of Mary Poppins Returns, and Hamilton maestro Lin-Manuel Miranda appears as Jack the Lamplighter, which means the musical moments in this movie will be ridiculously on-point. In fact, the trailer doesn’t skimp on revealing many of the film’s big-ticket dance sequences, which, like the original, combine live action with animation. There’s an underwater sequence that looks absolutely breathtaking and dancing penguins appear to remind us that this is, indeed, a magical Disney production.

The movie is clearly a star vehicle for Emily Blunt, but she has plenty of help from some very familiar faces, including Meryl Streep, who stars as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Colin Firth as a banker, and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Woman. Even Dick Van Dyke is back to reprise his role from the original, and as the trailer suggests, he hasn’t lost a step. It looks like we’re in for a properly over-the-top, feel-good musical this winter that will most likely garner some awards season buzz. We can’t wait.

Jennifer Lopez Went Full Jenny From the Block for Her 2018 MTV VMAs Performance


Before Jennifer Lopez took the stage for her career-spanning performance at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, presenter Shawn Mendes pointed out that the awards were being held at Radio City Music Hall, just 13 subway stops away from the Bronx, where J.Lo grew up. It was a poignant lead-in to an electrifying performance that provided a stunning snapshot of her sprawling career. Now excuse us while we try to regain our composure.

J.Lo was on hand to accept the 2018 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, honoring her lifetime achievement in music. But all that became secondary when she appeared in a blue and gold Versace robe that she quickly shed to reveal a shimmering gold bodysuit. And from there, it was on. J.Lo kicked off the medley with “Waiting for Tonight,” then seamlessly transitioned into throwback hits like “On the Floor,” “Let’s Get Loud,” “Dance Again,” “Ain’t Yo Mama,” “El Anillo,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “All I Have,” and “Jenny From the Block.”

And since no J.Lo performance would be complete without a myriad of on-the-fly outfit changes, she made sure to give us plenty of that too. At one point, she flung on a white fur coat, then disappeared, only to reemerge in a gold tracksuit, snapback and all.

Oh, and did we mention there was dancing? So. Much. Dancing. It’s no wonder her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, couldn’t contain his ear-to-ear grin from the audience. We were right there with him, especially when Ja Rule emerged to assist J.Lo on the classics “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.”

She eventually wrapped up the 10-minute performance with a surprise cameo from none other than DJ Khaled, who provided his unique brand of, er, vocals for her latest hit “Dinero.” Overall, it was a heart-stopping reminder of why J.Lo is and always will be one of the best to ever do it. Now excuse us while we watch it again, and again, and again.

Benefit Cosmetics Brow Contour Pro Review: How to Get Full Brows


When will nineties nostalgia peak? The decade is being revived in everything from fashion (see the return of stretchy Steve Maddens) to TV (Sabrina, Buffy, and Charmed are all getting reboots) to hair (scrunchies!)—and now they’re coming for our brows.

Sorry, is that triggering? Let me backtrack: You remember those clicky pens all the cool kids had in school? You’d fidget all of homeroom by pushing down a clicker to change the color of your pen? Well, Benefit Cosmetics is resurrecting them, but instead as a brow pen to more easily help you get that perfect, full-looking Insta brow. Divisively skinny brows aren’t back. Yet anyway. If they do return, you’ve got Rihanna to blame.

Available at Sephora starting today, the Benefit Cosmetics Brow Contour Pro comes in five shade ranges, each comprising four products in one tool: a lighter and a deeper filler shade, a highlighter, and an edge definer. The idea behind it is based off the brow contouring or “carving” technique most Instagrammers use to get that ultra-precise, ultra-thick brow. But instead of needing to deal with multiple brushes, products, and concealer, you can achieve with a single pen.

Brand reps recommend choosing your perfect color based on the definer shade, which should be just slightly lighter than your skin tone. The key is to start off tracing the shape of your brow from corner to tail with the light shade, fill, then add dimension with the darker shade. A little goes a long way (and the formula literally lasts all day), so you don’t want to go too heavy. Personally, I’d fill in a couple strokes and then blend in the color with a spoolie. Next it’s definer time. This is where the “carving” technique comes in: this more or less involves tracing directly under your brow with the definer shade to sharpen the line. Last up: the highlighter, which you want to put just under the arch to make the shape appear more sculpted.

Benefit’s already got a strong knack for brows. Its Gimme Brow gel has long topped the best-seller charts in the brow category (far before Boy Brow was thing), while you’d be hard-pressed not to find one its pencils in most makeup pros’ kits. What makes this tool so interesting, though, is that its’ consistency is neither a marker, gel, nor pencil. Rather, the product goes on like a pomade that’s meant to be blended.

Navigating the pen isn’t quite as intuitive as writing with them was. Despite being lightweight, it feels a little bit clunky to trace with at first, and I wish it came with a built-in spoolie. But its ease for travel more than makes up for it, and getting the motions down is pretty easy after a few initial test runs. Plus, it’s fun as hell to click and twist all day. What can I say? I’m a sucker for nostalgia.

Ariana Grande's Reported Engagement Ring Is on Full Display in This New Music Video


If you’ve been anywhere near the Internet in the last month, you know that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson are engaged…and both are really, really excited about it. (See: Her tweets, his gushing appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and their mututal Instagram PDA for proof.)

Grande is so excited, in fact, that she used her new music video as an excuse to show off her reported engagement ring in an entirely new setting.

On Thursday, the singer released the video for “Dance to This,” her first ever collab with Troye Sivan, and the entire thing is basically an ode to her new (probably wedding) bling. Sure, there are other people, places, and things featured in the four-minute clip (including a group of people who seem deeply unimpressed by the Grande/Sivan concert happening around them), but the pear-shaped ring is really the star of the show.

According to initial reports, the massive stone, which appears to be surrounded by diamonds and set in a platinum and diamond band, cost $93,000 and took nearly two weeks to make.

While it’s unclear how soon Davidson and Grande will be making the jump from the Internet’s most famous fiancés to actual husband and wife, it seems Grande has been looking forward to it for a long time. “Ariana has talked about marriage since she was 15,” a source told Entertainment Tonight shortly after the engagement was confirmed. “During her teen years, she was always very dreamy about a wedding and she used to call friends and talk about one day having that one special person.”

Looks like she’s found him, and he has A+ taste in engagement rings. Watch the full video—which includes multiple close-ups of the bling—below.

MTV VMAs 2018: See The Full List of Nominations


The 2018 MTV VMAs nominations have been revealed, and the list includes artists who broke new ground—and broke records—all year. Leading the pack is Cardi B with 10 nominations, mostly for her collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Finesse.” Trailing closely after her are The Carters (Bey and Jay, obvi) with eight nominations for “APES**T.” Childish Gambino—real name Donald Glover— and Drake both have seven nominations, for “This Is America” and “God’s Plan,” respectively.

MTV made headlines last year when it dropped gendered categories from its Movie and TV Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), meaning all male, female, and nonbinary artists will compete in the same award categories. The Best Female Video and Best Male Video awards are now combined into one category: Artist of the Year. And that’s not the only change: A new category—Video With a Message—has been added to celebrate videos that inspired viewers to stand up and fight injustice.

A Reminder That We Won't Need a Full Repeal of Roe v. Wade for Abortion to Be Restricted


On Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the bench. The 81-year-old has served since his appointment by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Now, the world must sit and wait for President Donald Trump to nominate his second Supreme Court judge in less than two years.

Though conservative, Justice Kennedy was known for his more centrist viewpoints and rulings. As CBS reported, he was a pivotal swing vote for marriage equality, corporate spending on elections, affirmative action, and the protection of abortion rights in 1992’s Planned Parenthood v. Casey. That case, CBS explained, would have prohibitively restricted abortion access for women across the nation.

And now, women fear they may soon face a similar battle. After all, Trump himself stated during the final presidential debate that he would work to see the end of Roe V. Wade.

“If we put another two or perhaps three justices on, that’s really what’s going to be, that’s what will happen,” he said. “And that’ll happen automatically in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court.”

To find out just how concerned women should be, Glamour called Jennifer Dalven, Director of the Reproductive Freedom Project of the American Civil Liberties Union, to find out more. For two decades, Dalven has dedicated her work to protecting access to abortion and reproductive health care.

And due to the latest SCOTUS shakeup, she says she’s never been more worried about women’s reproductive rights.

“I can say this is the time I’ve been most concerned in my 20 years here about the future of access to abortions in our country,” she told Glamour.

That’s because she knows that it won’t take a repeal of Roe v. Wade for extreme restrictions to be put in place. Here, she explains:

What specifically is making you so concerned?

Justice Kennedy provided a key vote to uphold a woman’s right to abortion and to stop politicians from blocking women from getting abortions. And President Trump, as you know, has repeatedly pledged to appoint justices who will take away our right to legal abortion. If we allow him to follow through on that promise, the balance of the court will certainly turn against the constitutional right to abortion and access to abortion.

What’s the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned?

That’s a really good question, but I think that if President Trump gets to appoint a new justice in the mold he has said he would appoint, whether Roe gets overturned outright or not won’t really be the question. We may not know the specifics, but whether the right to legal abortion is taken away entirely or whether the court decides, ‘no, we don’t need to go quite that far, we don’t need to be that explicit about it, but we’ll simply uphold every restriction that comes this way,’ the effect will be dire for women and families in this country.

How have abortion rights been restricted already?

In the first quarter of 2018, 37 states introduced 308 new abortion restrictions. So there is no doubt that there are politicians out there in a huge number of states who are standing at the ready to restrict women’s access to abortion care.

This could really go two ways: With a new justice on the court, the right to legal abortion could just be taken away entirely. And states could ban abortion outright and we know that there are states chomping at the bit to do that. By some counts almost half of the states are ready to do that. But, as I said, the court doesn’t have to go that far. It could simply decide to uphold any restriction that a politician can dream up and that will just make it impossible for women to get the care they need.

A couple of years ago, there was a case before the Supreme Court called Whole Woman’s Health that was challenging a Texas abortion restriction that would have had the effect of making Texas a state that went from about 40 clinics to about 10 clinics. And what that would’ve meant for women is that abortion would have been as good as outlawed. Justice Kennedy provided the crucial fifth vote to strike down that law. Without Justice Kennedy on the court, if a new justice upholds a requirement like that, we could see laws like that throughout the country. We know that 10 percent of the states are down to one abortion provider already.

Of President Trump’s a current list of nominees, who would you say is the closest to a Justice Kennedy that the American public could hope for?

I can’t comment on the specifics of that list, but what I can tell you is he and Mike Pence have been unbelievably clear that they have a litmus test and that they will only nominate somebody who will overturn the right to legal abortion. Mike Pence said he wants abortion “consigned to the ash heap of history where it belongs.” So we need to be incredibly skeptical and need to carefully evaluate any nominee that President Trump forwards. And the Senate really needs to do its job and carefully evaluate any potential nominees.

This isn’t a drill. This is real. This will have effects for generations to come. Seven in 10 Americans believe that abortion should remain a legal right. If you are one of those people, the time is now to make your voice heard.

Speaking of making your voice heard, what would you say people should do to make that happen?

The most direct way is to let your Senators know where you stand because they are the folks that will stand between a nomination from President Trump and that person actually sitting on the Supreme Court. But I would not be surprised if there are marches and protests in the streets in the coming weeks and months ahead as this battle heats up. But I think that the most direct thing is letting your Senators know where you stand and that you take this issue very seriously.
