Disney's French Toast Recipe: Here's How to Make It at Home

It can be hard to distinguish between the work week and the weekend in quarantine, but a luxurious brunch could make all the difference. Enter: Disney’s coveted French toast recipe. Thanks to a recent update to the Disney Parks Blog, the Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Banana French Toast previously available only at Disney’s PCH Grill at Disney Paradise Pier Hotel is now available to the rest of us.

Since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered Disney Parks, its properties have been sharing the secrets to some of their most beloved dishes. And this recipe is even easier than you might think. Here’s how to make it at home.

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 8 thick slices day-old challah bread
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 6 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup low-fat chocolate milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Chocolate syrup and powdered sugar, optional, but we think you deserve it

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Set aside.
  2. Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and place in a large bowl. Slice bananas into 1/2-inch slices, and add to bowl. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Combine peanut butter, eggs, chocolate milk, cinnamon, and salt in a blender (or just mix well with a whisk!). Process until smooth.
  4. Pour egg mixture over bread mixture. Stir gently until bread cubes have absorbed egg mixture.
  5. Pour mixture into prepared baking pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until top is golden brown.
  6. Before serving, drizzle with chocolate syrup and dust with powdered sugar, if desired.

This delicious baked French toast is the latest in a stream of recipes that Disney has made public, giving people at home a taste of the fun even as Disneyland, Disney World, and most of the brand’s other theme parks remain closed.

19 Best Glitter French Manicure Ideas for 2020

Despite the fact that we just entered 2020, by looking at the current trends I could swear we’re back in 2005. Bella Hadid is reviving low-rise pants (along with Louis Vuitton logo tops), lip gloss is back, and Paris Hilton is in the news again thanks to the best cooking video I’ve ever seen. The early-aughts aesthetic may be divisive, but there’s no arguing history is repeating itself.

In beauty, it’s been most obvious with the return of the French mani. The look more or less disappeared into oblivion after the turn of the decade (the 2010s, not the one that just happened), becoming a distant memory of spring fling dances past. But over the last year, it slowly began to re-emerge on an influencer here, a celeb there (both Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid were early adopters), until it was everywhere. From awards show red carpets to backstage at fashion week, it’s not a major event now if there isn’t a French mani present.

I for one love the look. It’s classic and slightly tacky at the same time, which happens to be a perfect summary of my personal style. And when done with a more modern rounded tip it makes nails look long and elegant. But I understand that the look may be too closely tied to horrible spray tans and over-teased hair poufs to even consider trying. That’s where the many variations on French tips come in that make the look feel fresh and modern.

The coolest of the moment? The glitter French manicure, which as the name plainly states is a French manicure with glitter. Depending on your preference, this can mean a base of glitter with a colorful tip or a simple base with a glitter tip. Either way, it’s an easy trick to add sparkle to your nails while still looking grown-up; plus, it looks excellent peeking out of sweater sleeves this time of year. And unlike the classic white and baby pink look, adding some extra dimension plants the trend firmly in 2020. If you need more convincing, scroll on for some of the coolest glitter French manicure ideas on Instagram.

Glitter Base

A thin coat of glitter paired with a colorful tip is equal parts ethereal and high-fashion.

Glitter Tips

A bold coat of glitter (or crystals! or sequins!) in gold or silver gives a French mani a modern touch.

Diffused Glitter

For a French-but-not-quite manicure, diffuse your glitter down the nail for a softer look.

Ashley Tisdale Made Her Husband Christopher French Watch High School Musical for the First Time

It’s been over a decade since High School Musical made its iconic debut on the Disney channel, but that doesn’t mean cast members like Ashley Tisdale have stopped reliving the ride. The actor recently decided she wanted to introduce the franchise to her husband, composer Christopher French. She hilariously documented the night-in for fans, as she introduced French to the singular Sharpay Evans.

Tisdale posted several stories to her Instagram as French reacted to Evans’s big moments and scenes. (Tisdale was 21 when the first film came out.) “Does anybody know what this is?” she joked, referencing one of the opening hit songs from the musical. “I’m subjecting my husband to watch it. He’s never seen any of them.”

So what did French think of the singing, dancing, pink-loving, mean girl? At one point, Tisdale asked him, “Would you have dated me?” and French simply laughed in response. Tisdale later shared a photo of Evans and cracked, “Sharpay not your type, babe?” while including a crying-while-laughing emoji.

Overall, French doesn’t seem to be a new fan of the movies. He even admitted that he probably wouldn’t have watched the films when he was younger, prompting his wife to post a video captioned, “LAME! He wasn’t cool enough.” But the good news is that hardcore fans still adore the movies, and the cast has maintained their friendships from their time on set together. Most of the stars, with the exception of Zac Efron, filmed an onscreen reunion in 2016, and they’ve been seen at events together ever since. Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens are still incredibly close, serving as their friend Kim Hidalgo’s bridesmaids this summer. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.

It Sure Looks Like Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Are About to Kick Off Their French Wedding

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas surprised us once with that wedding in Las Vegas, but they’re not going to surprise us twice. Well, at least not if we can help it. The couple are reportedly going to get married again in France, and although they’re keeping the exact date under wraps, all Instagram Story signs point to them being on location (or nearing location) in Paris and having a pretty romantic time, leading some to speculate that the wedding is pretty imminent.

We’ve known since a December leak that the couple was planning to get married in France this summer, but we haven’t heard a ton of details so far (other than that there’s apparently going to be plenty of Coors Light on hand, which, OK). Recently, Us Weekly reported that the two were going to get married in late June, and wouldn’t you know, here we are in late June.

And fine, skeptics, yes, it’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week, which Jonas has been photographed attending as of yesterday. So could it be for work? Sure.

But doesn’t it just make sense to get hitched once the runway shows wrap? I mean, they’re already there and everything—and it is the end of June, as hinted.

The Coolest French Manicure Ideas for 2019

Let me set the scene. It’s a Friday night, and I’m watching an episode of The Simple Life. Paris and Nicole are getting themselves into all sorts of trouble, and I’m wearing Juicy Couture track pants and online-shopping for a Dior saddlebag. I’ve spent all day listening to Gwen Stefani’s iconic (yet slightly problematic) album Love Angel Music Baby on repeat. Nope, I’m not describing an evening in 2004—this was literally last week. Clearly my nostalgia for the early 2000s has been kicked into high gear, and I’m not the only one. From lip gloss, hair clips, and mini purses popping off on Instagram, to the Motorola RAZR making a comeback, inspiration from the early aughts is running high.

Many say that era birthed some of the tackiest trends, and I would say they’re right. Juicy? I mean…. Logo mania? Definitely. Mini-est of miniskirts? Come on. But that’s kind of the point. The naughties had us playing with style and trends in a way that we just don’t now. Xtina’s “Dirrrty” looks or Britney and Justin’s matching-denim moment would simply never happen these days. There’s too much pressure on looking cool yet effortless, while back then people just played. More was more, no matter how gaudy.

However, the tides are changing, and from music to fashion, these 2000s trends are creeping in and we’re having fun again. In fashion, that’s the return of logos and low-rise jeans. And in beauty, just as equally polarizing is the return of the French manicure. While it might call to mind your junior high spring fling or the Long Island Medium, I personally think a French tip is a classic look that is the perfect meeting of ladylike and fun.

I remember getting one for the first time and feeling so grown-up, even though it was embellished with flowers and my nails were uneven from biting. But the trend came and went just as fast as Uggs, and by the time Miley had ditched Hannah Montana for dancing on ice cream carts, it was over, labeled a fashion Don’t by pretty much everyone.

Fast-forward to 2019, and the nail look is popping up on my Instagram left and right now. But gone are the chunky square acrylics and thick white stripes of manis past. The new French mani I’m seeing on cool girls far and wide has a rounded shape with a delicate tip (unless of course you’re going for a true throwback look à la Kim K’s recent trip to the nail salon, in which you have my full support).

Kim Kardashian’s recent French mani

French manis are elegant and hearken back to classic nail looks from the fifties and sixties, yet they feel clean and modern at the same time. It’s minimal and doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard, but has a touch of polish and vintage nostalgia. Plus, the style makes nails look super long, especially when updated with a subtle white to pink ombré like Kendall Jenner’s on the cover of Vogue Italia (when two members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan jump on a trend, you know it’s about to be huge).

I will say, this is generally a look best left to the experts (you should def consider a trip to the salon), but there are ways to make it work at home. A good place to start is with a French manicure kit, or I like Sally Hansen’s nail art pen if I’m going to do a colorful tip. If you’re hands aren’t super steady, rope in a friend and do each other’s nails. Throw on Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and make an on-theme night of it.

This Dove Drugstore Beauty Product Replaced My Expensive French Perfume

I’ve never been into the idea of having a signature scent. Twenty seconds into trying on my first perfume (the classic, spicy Paloma Piccaso), I got bored and proceeded to add a few generous spritzes of Bath & Body Works Cucumber Melon. While this is an appalling scent combination I could never in good conscience recommend to anyone, it set the tone for the rest of my relationship with fragrance. I wear something different almost every day, flitting between bottles as often as my mood changes (aided largely by magazine testers, blogger swaps, and free samples from department stores). A signature scent that accurately reflects my inner emotional landscape and vision board at all times—this is something I cannot fathom.

Among the hundreds that I’ve sampled, there are a handful that stand out to me, and they’re all from an incredibly chic brand called Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Kurkdjian has been behind plenty of the bottles you probably already know, from brands like Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab, and Burberry. And for his own line, he creates masterpieces that are incredibly evocative and beautiful, the kind of scent that will unfailingly make every day feel special. My personal poison is the $215 Grand Soir, a vanilla so well-rounded and robust that I can practically chew on it. There’s benzoin and rose honey in there, plus incense absolute, ylang ylang, cumin, atlas cedar, and sandalwood. It’s a golden blanket of spices and sweetness and warmth and just smells so expensive and cozy that I occasionally even spray it on my pajamas. It might not be the only one for me, but it’s the only one I couldn’t imagine giving up.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have to imagine it—because I got to experience saying a tearful goodbye to it firsthand. When I moved to Berlin from New York, I had to relinquish my precious bottle (along with most of my worldly possessions) at JFK, an incident I’m still trying my best to erase from my memory. Long story short, when I landed in Germany to start my new life, I also did it without the comforting presence of Grand Soir at my side.

For awhile, I convinced myself it was fine, that I would move on from missing an inanimate object and live my life like a normal person. But, it didn’t take long for me to start craving its radiance. Things just felt a little colder without it.

Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to find an exact dupe, I ventured into the aisles of my local dm-drogerie markt (Germany’s version of a CVS) with an open mind and a handful of change. The thing about vanilla is that it can be surprisingly hard to do well, and poorly formulated vanilla perfumes smell like a migraine-inducing mix between Funfetti household cleaner and plastic cupcake frosting. This is why I immediately decided against body sprays and moved on to the bath and body section. And there I found it: Dove Bodylotion Intensive Pflege (or “Dove Cream Oil Intensive Body Lotion” as it’s called in the US), for a mere 2.45€.

Please note that I am not suggesting this smells the same as Grand Soir; I would have bought out the entire drugstore if that were the case. But, many body lotions and shower gels have such mild scents that they almost melt into you, creating a smell that’s one part fragrance and one part clean skin. Although they’ll cost you far less than a mass market perfume, they can wind up smelling more expensive—and a whole lot subtler—if you find the right one.

And this Dove discovery, it’s perfect—a little sweet, comfortingly warm, kind of reminiscent of clean laundry, and not harshly sugary or shrill in any way. I use it right out of the shower, sometimes dabbing an extra layer over my pulse points, and feel instantly more cheerful. As an added bonus, it does a good job of deeply moisturizing with its oil-cream formula (because, you know, that’s what it’s actually supposed to do).

While I’ve been informed that the brand is phasing out its body lotions stateside (stock up while you still can!), its equally palatably priced Dove Shower Foam in Shea Butter and Warm Vanilla is also fantastic. When the airy lather rinses off, you’re left with the mildest hint of something sweet and soothing. It’s $6, you have to shower anyway, and you can start saving up for a bottle of Grand Soir this way. I know I am.
